I'm probably going to arr myself a copy when the suckrom issue gets worked out. And I'll probably play for an hour and lose interest. Or maybe I'll love it. I'll have to see.
Right now, life and stuff gets in the way of a lot of game time, so I don't even get to play Sims like I would like to.

And is it supposed to happen that the other playable families in the building are able to be observed going about their daily life when they are not selected?
It happens to me only with Cho/Riley households. I guess they are borked, like the shadow man in the trailer park. those are the ones I was playing, yup. and so irritating that the plumbob sticks through the floor. So annoying.

I fired it up for a little while last night. I only ended up playing for about 15 minutes though after the whole install and initial load times.
My first impression thought of the new neighborhood was "Gah! My eyes!" It was so cluttered I didn't know what to look at first or what I wanted to do. I ended up playing two families for short times. The biggest thing I noticed was a plumbob "shark" swimming menacingly in the floor of an upstairs apartment as the woman in the apt below walked around (she was the selected sim). There were also green smiling friend faces that floated up through the floor like pungent odors

Just click the temperature control on the Lot Debugger. You can choose "Normal", "Grip of Winter", or "Heat From Hell", and your temperature will instantly change to that. Yes, there are basically only 3 temperatures in the entire game. All other intermediate settings are equivalent to "normal".
Ah, cool. That'll work then.

But the thing is, it doesn't! I wanted to see my sim freeze but after a few hours of snow angels, she was merely shivering and I got bored and sent her in.
Sims don't normally freeze unless temperature outside is <= -70. If it's not that cold, temperature is irrelevant. Anything where |Temp| < 70 should just be ignored, it has no effect. I guess I'm off to grab the extreme temp hack from MTS2 then. I want to see some freezing, frabbit!

Doing temperature-hit activities matters far more than what your sim wears. Uniforms have basically no effect, but making snow angels in ANYTHING will turn you into an icicle in seconds.

Thanks, Emma! I did actually search for "temperature" (no results) "more realistic cold" and "freeze sim how long" and I wasn't getting anything good.
ETA: I have warmth fixes, but is it supposed to fix cold too? I did RTFM and the only cold reference is for zombies turning blue. There is a hack at MTS2 for colder temps, maybe I need to snag that, but still, I think temp should begin to drop FAST when a sim is in undies or naked in the snow.

Shouldn't it make me cold?
I'm just starting to really play around with seasons stuff and the thermometer for sims. I never really noticed how much temperature affected them until I started doing the ghetto challenge and my sim was unprotected from the elements. It's the first time I saw heatstroke. Since she was ghetto, with no roof yet, she had no way of cooling off and she was hot all the time. So, I went to a winter lot and had my selfsim run outside in the snow in her underwear. I wanted to see the freeze animation. Well, she spent several sim hours making snow angels and snowmen and was only to the point of shivering! Shouldn't sims get cold almost immediately when they go outside in their unders? There was thick snow, it was middle of winter (I did not check the outside temp -- is there a way to do that besides "read the forecast" in the newspaper?)
Most of my sims go outside in outerwear, so I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take for them to get really cold. I didn't even see her turn blue.

This is really interesting how it works (and no hacks in the game, pulled just to make sure) but the entire 'hood looks like winter, yet all the lots but one show as "summer". I wonder what causes the neighborhood view to show one season or another then? The last lot played? Like I said in my first post, I had never played a single lot for more than a few sim-days at a time, so I never noticed the "time shift" before. But I got caught up in playing sim me, started in Spring, went through Fall, had some fun snowfall in Winter, then my game went asplode. After fixing everything, reinstalling, etc. I put in the backup game and that's when I noticed the time difference in other lots. :shrugs: oh well, it's okay, just a little weird to me.

Is it supposed to happen that one lot can be in winter and another lot in the same neighborhood can be in summer? I never really played with any one lot long enough to notice this before. it does this even when I pull my d/l folder, so it's not the work of the non-awesome unless tight pants has borken the entire game. I was thinking that all lots should at least maintain the same season, even if they are not played rotationally. Is this not how it works? I know, I need to be less STUPI and all that.

I had a new computer with a faulty CD-ROM drive that died within 6 months. (This was before I started downloading cracked executables, and I think excessive simming with the disc contributed to its early death.) It was fully covered under warranty; the manufacturer shipped a replacement to me for free.
Any chance you got SecuRom? Breaking CD/DVD-ROM drives is one of the things for which it has a reputation...
Yeah, the drive is covered, but sending the lappy in and being without it while they fix it is not appealing. i will check for Securom, but I've been really careful to try NOT to get it! ETA: I did, indeed, have SuckROM on my computer. It's been removed now, so we'll see if the problems fix themselves.

The reason I'm asking is because mine were all burned to discs, which are unscratched and still managed to somehow become corrupted. I don't trust it totally anymore for backup. Even my legally owned, original manufacturer's DVD of TS2 is "unreadable or corrupted" despite having been installed with no problems on May 11.
