Title: Why aren't my mods working?
Post by: Sorina on 2009 July 31, 13:02:18
The topic subject sounds like a n00b question, but I'm beginning to be puzzled here..

I have all the necessary files, I've installed Delphy's Install Helper Monkey, everything's in the right place, I've checked and double checked but I can't get my mods to work in Sims 3. What puzzles me the most is that every other type of custom content is working just fine, but not mods. I even resorted to clean install, because I wanted make sure that nothing's borked in the gamefiles. So, if someone more experienced than me could shed some light into this, I'd be eternally grateful!

This is neither facts nor strategy.

Have you recently reinstalled your game? If so, reinstall the Helper Monkey because it creates the necessary resource file.

Ooops! Sorry for posting in wrong section, I noticed it just now..  :-[

I just reinstalled Helper Monkey today, no avail. Any other suggestions?

But did you reinstall it AFTER the game was installed?
Other than that I'm no help, anything I know is only from experience.

Yeah, I reinstalled it after reinstalling the game.

Thanks for trying to help anyways.

Did you delete the Cache files?

Do you have your mods in the same folder you have the other stuff? Mods>Packages? No subfolders? I had the same problem with IndieStone not working, but when I installed AM, it worked just fine. Thing is, I re-downloaded the resource.cfg from here when I installed it, and installed that in the right place, which is right in the Sims3 folder, not in mods. I haven't checked whether the Install Helper Monkey put it there or not in the first place... but judging from the fact that it won't install saved sims in the right folder, anything might be possible  :-\

I'm having this problem also, but specifically with Awesomemod. All my other mods work fine. :/

Try getting the resource.cfg from the Awesome Mod thread, and put it in the Sims3 directory (in the program files, you are installing your mods there, I hope). Other than that, and deleting the cache files from My Documents, I have no idea... Also check if you don't have some weird core mods in your mods folder, that could override AM. I *thought* I'm not that stupid, but figures even I can make mistakes like that  ;)

I haven't checked whether the Install Helper Monkey put it there or not in the first place...

It does, that is what I used to create one in the first place.

The problem might come from the Resource.cfg being replaced by another with different settings, I know Peggy downloads come with a Resource.cfg that have different contents and so things start to fail to work as it should.

And xSims also comes with a Resource.cfg with different contents and to add insult to injury, they make their downloads self-extracting applications (I have 7zip so I can extract their contents).

I took my mods out from the subfolder "Hacks" which was created by Install Monkey, and put them to the packages-folder, not working. Yes, I deleted the cache-files also. My resource.cfg is from MTS, created by Delphy, and haven't replaced it with anyone else's. Should I try to replace it though? All tips are appreciated!

Two things I can think of, may sound obvious but humor me.

First, what is the exact path of your resource.cfg? Should be C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Resource.cfg or something along those lines depending on your OS and if you installed to the default directories etc.

Second, can you open your resource.cfg in a text editor and post it here?

I don't understand why the mods would not be working. They are all .package files correct?

Yup, my resource.cfg is directly in the Sims 3 folder, not in a subfolder or somewhere in my documents..

All mods are package-files, of course.

Attached is the resource.cfg as a txt-file.
