Title: Yet another few questions,
Post by: Savage on 2006 January 01, 10:39:36
God im such an f00ping n00b.

But:

1)Is there anyway to fix the fact that in my Uni all the simskind of lock themselves in their rooms so the idea of socialising never works. I don't like making these sims selectable because I have to filll their every need and stuff and I like the kind of chaos of being able to sit back and watch, but they don't DO anything.

2)Also I don't get Uni, I mean what do they get for getting a diploma? what does it help them acheive??? because its so boring to send them through uni i've never actually ahceived it hah.

3)Simlogical... The Bush that makes all the stuff you have keep with you, How does it work, I mean where does the stuff reappear when you movE?

4) this is going to have an odd response but: Im thinking of buying Nightlife but because of the let down I had with Uni, (because he neighbourhood takes ages etc, and not being able to send your kids to uni and live tehre at the same time kind of thing) I just got bored there also wasnt a major lot of difference, so is it worth buying nightlife and what kind of things make it good?

Sims get the ability to work in four more careers and start at higher career levels if they've gone through university, not to mention they get that much longer to build relationships and skills and it doesn't take away from their lifespan at all.

(Have you tried, oh, I don't know, using the search function for questions like these? Maybe Google? You might not feel like so much of a newbie if you took some effort to find things out on your own first.)

Google doesn't answer anything unless I want cheats, I spend half my internet life on google :P

Question 1: You don't have to make them selectable. Just "catch"  them when they come home from the hood or from class. If you befriend them, they will stay less time in their rooms.

Question 4:  Read Pescado's threads about "Nightlife: Ugly", and "Nightlife: Cool".

Edit:  the links don't work, but it's on the Podium, pages 24, 25 and on.

Edit2: the links are OK, forgot the "smf" parameter.

Question 3, the objects stay on the lot rather than being zapped when you move the family into the bin.

the stuff dosen't go anywhere, it stays in the house. normally when you move everything get removed from the house so if you move a family out and then back in you must redecorate

I wasn't to sure about getting NL, Uni was ok but it didn't really add much to the everyday life of my sims. NL is totally different (IMHO anyway) I love it! Before NL my sims rarely went to Community Lots, now they go all the time and it's faster to get there because you can chose the exact community lot you wish to go to before you go anywhere so theres less loading time. I like that my sims homes no longer appear to be surrounded by nothing and although I didn't care about them having cars before...it is wonderful to not have to wait for the damn taxi or car pool.

I play with free will on and I like the fact that now I don't have to always pick who my sims will fall in love with. I like the fact that they will now flirt more often on their own even though I do have to pay more attention specially in the case of my romance sims, which brings me to the Furious state, I know some don't care for it but I love it, a sim should be pissed off if they catch their "love" cheatin  ;D  The "not fair" part about the Furious state is when a sim catchs their "love" rejecting a flirt from another sim, they still get pissed off as if their love did cheat, sadly I know some real people who were so jealous that they would react the same way so although it's "not fair" it is true to life *sigh*

Anyway, If I had to chose between Uni and NL then NL would certainly win without a seconds thought.

I've made myself a patch that reduces the relationship decay globally.  That at least makes the length of time furious lasts a bit more in proportion.  I do like them being able to get furious, but not when it was so out of proportion to how long they can remember their friendships!

There's already a product like that here in the More Awesome Than You Director's Cut, "enemiesaccumulate". Generally improves the ability of furious sims not to end up liking the person they were furious with, allows them to actually keep enemies if so inclined, and several other factors pertaining to relational decay and sanity.

Yeah I was about to reply that it would clash with all sorts of things like that, which is why I didn't put it online in the first place.  I edited the BCONs you see, and they probably affect all sorts of other hacks.   I actually don't use a great many global hacks in my game, particularly the larger ones such as insimenator, so it makes it easy for me just to make the occasional BCON adjustment for my personal preferences.

All it does is change the -3's to -1's so the actual rate of decay is slower.   If anyone wants it and understands its potential for clashing, email me and I'll send it to you.  I don't fancy supporting it if I put it on my site, that's all :)

*sigh* considering the large number of hacks I currently use...I better pass  *laughs*

(I don't use "enemiesaccumulate" since I do want them to become friends again)

If you get NL, you can put the gravestones in your inventory or send the gravestones to a community graveyard.

*laughs* I forgot about the inventories... You can take the gravestones (and other stuff) with your sims if they move (with NL) or you can also send the gravestones to the cemetary(sp? can't spell this morning) if you want

edit - simmiecal beat me *laughs*

2)Also I don't get Uni, I mean what do they get for getting a diploma? what does it help them acheive??? because its so boring to send them through uni i've never actually ahceived it hah.

There are a few reasons to play through uni:

- you get more time with your sims to develop skills, friends, and aspiration points, which will help them succeed later in life
- once he/she graduates, your sim gets to start their career at a higher level than a similar but "uneducated" sim (but this is only if you use the computer, not the paper)
- your sim can enter into one of four careers (artist, natural scientist, paranormal, showbiz) only for graduates (eh, unless you cheat), which offer higher levels of pay (though fewer/worse chance cards, so the benefit is debatable)

Uni is basically a way to fast-track your sim so that once they move out on their own they won't struggle for long. It's best for CAS sims or sims from disadvantaged houses, and not so good for sims that come from developed families (where most teens [at least in my game] have all skills, a dozen friends or so, and a boatload of aspiration points) After I played uni through completely normally a few times, I started using twojeff's college adjuster to push them through more quickly, with a little time devoted each "year" to skill-building and friend-building. *shrug* Uni is a good idea on paper, less of one when you actually start playing.
