301  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Guess what happens when you deleteAllCharacters in downtown? on: 2005 October 02, 05:25:13
A safe method of deleting characters has been proposed to Quaxi for a future edition of SimPE.  Nothing has been promised about if or when it might be included, but Quaxi is thinking about it.  If implemented it should, ideally, eliminate a character file along with all family info, relationships, memory markers, etc., etc., essentially making it as though the character never existed in the game.

I am hoping his hint that we may see it in the NL edition will come true.

Anyway, go here and add your support. Offer him cash, hookers, and the head of any BBSer he wants.

Its not. I had an invis guest a few times the last couple days and just DLed the phonehack tonight. I noticed the first one when I saw ZZZzzzz in the corner of the lot. The new perma-lot catalog is great at fixing these problems. Just back up your hood use boolprop tyo kill off the houses you play most often, delete the tombstones and load them into the catalog. Restore your hood and now you ahve a furnished house backed up. whenever your lot gets buggy you can just move out, plop the back up down and move back in.You just have to make a back up anytime you do major renovations.
303  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Phone Ringing Is Driving Me Crazy!! on: 2005 October 02, 04:16:00
As mentioned above, the ringer limits don't work. However turning off the ringer completely does work, which is how I play anyway.

Also, were the hours that it is OK to call changed with NL? I can call until 2AM with no harassment now. If this is a hack addition good one.
304  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Talk about a love/hate relationship! on: 2005 October 02, 01:31:15
Depends on the size of your lot I think. Smaller lots they get to the paper in time.
305  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Phone Ringing Is Driving Me Crazy!! on: 2005 October 02, 01:27:17
Yard work is done, house is kind of clean, laundry is going, house to myself, bottle of wine. Will put a few hours of testing in tonight.
306  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Smart Milk and the college years on: 2005 October 01, 19:42:14
Does the townie have a memory "learned to study"?

Try raising a non-townie and never teach tnm to study.
307  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: This new furious state on: 2005 October 01, 17:29:09
I have not seen the backwards furious for cheating at all. I have been tormenting a homeless woman by rewooing her every 3 days then letting her catch me cheating. Every time she has become furious with the cheater not the other way around. I have gotten the "fight" option each time though. I only whooped her ass for being nosey a few times.
308  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Phone Ringing Is Driving Me Crazy!! on: 2005 October 01, 17:26:00
I would be more than happy to help do testing if you need people.

Just PM me with a dl link and what functions you want heavily tested. That hack is the only one I am really waiting on, the others are just nice additions. Phonehack is required to have relationships at all.

You can find it in the test section here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/nl/

YAY! I had been watching, new file today!

I will play with it tonight and try all the phone uses.
309  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: This new furious state on: 2005 October 01, 06:43:07
Make sure to turn her into a zombie when she dies.

I hate parting with any sim forever, so I condemn most of them to a souless life walking the earth pleading for death.

Something really entertaining about the new furious state.

Have a vampire piss off another vampire, make them furious and enemies.

Then you get to see the enemy vampire show up 5 or 6 times during the day, sneak over to the trash can, paper, etc, burning with the sun, and scream "AHHH THE SUN!!" and run away.

That is an ANGRY vampire to come cross town during the day to steal your newspaper.
312  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 30, 23:56:25
I only had the no car actions when

1- the neighboorhood was bloated
and
2- I had no hacks installed.

Since I have been playing a new hood with remakes of old sims and added the crritical fixes I have had no problems.
313  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Townie-only Dress? on: 2005 September 30, 19:47:36
Make her a vampire and a zombie, its a good combo.
314  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / How do people have sims die of disease? on: 2005 September 30, 19:41:26
Seriously, other than random bugs how the hell are people that bad at the game anyone ever dies from food poisoning or illness?

I have tried several times to just allow someone to die off and they always get better.

Last night I was playing a fairly new family and was busy being pissed off about the 2 sets of twins in a row (teach me to pretend my sims are rats and knock them up right after labor). This retarded kid goes and eats rotten food and gets food poisoning. Now I never liked him anyway, he was a pleasure sim with a 1 in active/lazy and max in playful.

Being pissed off I decided he would become a teen tragedy and sadly pass away. I allowed him NO comfort for 12 days ,he only passed out on the lawn, he crapped his pants numerous times, no one would play with him, nope no death. He was getting ready to transition to YA/A and still just fine, low aspiration but completely safe, plus he wasn'tvomiting anymore.

How the hell do people complain about something that I can't even get to happen when I want it to?

In the end I did this:

To kill him I had to decide he was a different type of teen tragedy and would OD. So I made him play with the noodle soother (ex)  and crystal meth...er the energizer and let him die on the lawn. Then because I still hated him, brought him back as a 1k zombie,  sent him to college and failed him out, then made him have a homosexual experiance with a vampire, who bit him, then invted him over to watch him woo hoo with a woman, breaking his zombie/vampire heart. On the plus side he did fall in love in college, first with a prostitute (who was the woman the vampire had over) but then found out he was a filthy furry and married the evil mascot. Their home life was going well, but then he was probed and just popped out an alien butt baby.

Sanmonroe, where do you come up with these insights? Your posts equal mine for sheer verbiosity--but it's actually interesting, rather than being random ramblings. Grin A most impressive feat.

Alcohol + years and years of following game development + years and years of being dissapointed.
316  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Black & White 2 on: 2005 September 30, 00:28:50
Ok for those who want details. If you didn't follow the development of his last few games and the fan backlash you probbaly are unaware of how unlike the game he promoted up until release was from what came out.

Peter Molyneaux is one of the "Game gods" (Like Will Wright, Sid Meier, etc). He was the guy who made Populous, i.e. one of the founders of modern games who has continued on. He did a sequal to pop, then another sequal that was 3D and pretty good. Then the interweb became big and he became a minor celeb and ccould give interviews that people would read.

Unlike the Will , Sid, etc Peter is well known for speaking about his projects very openly. He is the opposite of Will Wright. Will only talks about things that are almost complete, rarely talks about hopeful features. If he cannot show it, he probably won't disscuss it. As with Spore, it was a complete sectet until he revealed it in a talk and had a playable late alpha version.

Peter is insane and promises HUGE things. His talks a month before a game release sound like a development wish list. The problem is, since populous, none of his games have lived up to their Hype. B&W1 was the best example. The bugs that destroyed your creature alone would make most fans cry with hate, but the fact that the game was immensly below what he was promising the month before was really bad. He siad he learned his lesson in an interview where he agreed he was "overenthusiastic" about hopes and ideas after B&W1.

He didn't learn though. Fable is another one of his games, and to be fair, fable was fun. However it was extremely short and matched very little of what he had been promising up until release.

After some fable backlash (and another interview where he promises to shut up) he seems to have learned and has barely been involved in the marketting of B&W2, so the hope is that the game will be very close to what is being advertized.
317  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bump Mapping works with my Gforce 6800GT & Nightlife. on: 2005 September 29, 16:00:42
Here is a nice guide to tweaking your 6800 (although it works for other cards too)

Some people have been having problems with the 6800 and 7800 and Sims 2. No hard reason why locked down though.
318  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Black & White 2 on: 2005 September 29, 15:58:15
I will be waiting until the reviews are out and it has been released for a month. Peter Molyneaux has ass raped fans too many times.

319  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Houses keep reappearing in the bin on: 2005 September 29, 06:40:17
I haven't tried to delete any, but at worst you could just delete the file for the lot itself.
320  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Houses keep reappearing in the bin on: 2005 September 29, 06:15:19
Any house put int he lot bin that doesn't ahve sims in it will be in the lot bin forever.

321  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The best Dream Date is done at home! on: 2005 September 28, 13:02:09
No, we still need one. Thats why Dr Boris needs to be put to work in the coding mines for 100 hours a day.

322  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The best Dream Date is done at home! on: 2005 September 28, 08:01:54
Or the updated phone hack. Put dr Boris to work.
323  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Submit Issues about Nightlife on: 2005 September 28, 07:59:23

I hope you don't see it just as "modder" community support. I don't like downloading anything because I'm so technically "challenged" that I can never be sure I'm installing things correctly. The bugginess of University and the lack of EA/Maxis support/response to the issues forced me to seek support elsewhere.  I was putting off buying Nightlife until I saw that EA/Maxis actually seemed to take an interest in corresponding with users (evidenced by you posting on this forum).  I will be sorely disappointed to find out that this was a marketing stunt that coincided with Nightlife's release rather than a change in attitude by EA/Maxis in corresponding with the user community.

Tom's been communicating with players in forums since soon after The Sims 2 came out, and he says he will continue to do so.  Did you want them to pay someone just to read user forums all day?   Even Microsoft don't seem to do that.   In what capacity did you expect him to participate?   For all you know his personal interests may be boating, and he wants to spend his free time on yacht forums.   The Sims isn't a religion that you either all believe in or you're out.

Sony has been doing that for years and now Blizzard is catching on to doing that since the WoW burst. Extremely low cost to hire 1 or 2 full time people and several part timers (part time = low pay and no benefiets). A game that generates as much money as TS2 has no excuse not to do so. They get extremely consistent control of thier boards, communication, etc.

The reason they don't though is just bad shortsighted buisness. Simmasters are free, they can run a tiny staff, let what goes on go on and ignore it. The result, poor communication between the company and consumers, a shorthanded staff having to make up for it when there is a problem, people like Tom getting stuck taking the brunt of the criticism when it is finally decided to let someone calm the fires down. Etc. In the short term you save money (bigger quarterly bonus for the manegment), in the long term you piss off customers and lose future purchases. EA/maxis seems to have a "there are plenty more fish in the sea" attitude in regards to customer disatisfation.

Most of the big companies are going in one of three directions.

First is hire people to run your communitty. This is what seems to work best for most companies (although the third is much cooler). 100 posts by a simmaster saying "I am sure they are working on it" is no where near as effective as any single Tom post we have gotten. You also have control and consistancy you cannot get with a volunteer staff, no matter how dedicated.

The second  is to throw the community out completely to fansites. No boards on the main site, but one or two big sites that agree to abide by your rules get a link on the site. This has the same communication problem the Sims2 BBs has, but this way the company can ignore everything without ever having an employee or anyone officially affiliated make any comments. Vivendi loves these. Firaxis also does this, but when you do this you run the risk of the sites being full of neo-nazis, hate mongerers, and thousands of threads about abortion, gun control, etc  in the off topic areas.

The third is pretty rare. Small Developer driven companies are pushing towards high interaction directly with the players by the dev team. The Gal Civ/Stardock teams are the best example, although Sony seems to be trying something similar with EQ2 after they promoted all their reps but one up a level. The Vanguard team is kind of moving in this direction, if they go with it they will be the first MS affiliated group to do so. Customers love this. But corporate groups with 100 layers of manegement and marketting departments to run things by, and TPS reports to fill out, are not going to be good. No one wants to say something that will get another department or a manager pissed off, and everything pisses one of them off.

Are the conversations anything like this

?

Its easy to mix up things from other cultures.
325  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The best Dream Date is done at home! on: 2005 September 27, 23:54:55
If lucky at home you can get 4 woo hoo desires at once.

Make sure your lot has a car, bed, photo booth, and hot tub.

I almost always get woo hoo and woo hoo in car, and a good amount of time one of the other locations.

Lock 2 of them, go woo hoo in the hot tub, then whenever you need a quick pick me up just woo hoo somewhere else until you need to have another date.

If you are really lucky with 2 skill maxed out sims living together you can often get a woo hoo in car/Woo hoo Makeout/Kiss loop going. Then you can just cycle make out and woo hoo until thier needs make them get out of the car or the date ends. Thats some major fast asp points.
