76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help Needed : finding pie menu text to change it on: 2007 September 12, 17:56:02
Incidentally, if the text that you want to change are options that show up with you click on a sim (as opposed to an object), these would most likely be in PersonGlobals and you should look at the Pie Menu Strings (TTAs I think?).
Maybe a dumb question : is PersonGlobals a package file or is it in the objects.package ?? How/Where can I find it ?
I look rapidly in the objects.package, through pie menu strings and make action strings (or something like that), I've found a lot of interesting text I had modified to be better (in my opinion) in french, but not the one for walking to community lot when you click on the sim (which I want to change) nor the one for walking to a community lot when you click on the public phone, that is like I want it to be....

For the souvenirs shelf : browing the BBS (yes I know, I'm crazy) I've found some useful information from a prima guide thread :

5 Far East souvenirs: Sims gain faster skill building : seems to work like that in my game, seems to add to automn boost and thinking cap

5 Mountain souvenirs: Non-romantic socials are more effective : seems to work in my game, my sims went to best friend faster than ever

5 Island souvenirs: Romantic socials are more effective : seems to work in my game, but I'm not sure, as the sims I tested it with where already in love

5 Seashells: Sims gain slower bladder decay : as far as I can tell in my game it increases the bladder decay !!!

5 Voodoo dolls: Sims may hallucinate they are being attacked by bees : I didn't try it for the moment

ETA : concerning the triple speed thing : I have it on some vacation community lots and not on some others, not depending on the family I send there, and as far as I can tell, this problem is always on the same lots. I should start to write it down to be sure...

For people with lag : I have found a cause of horrible lag in my game :
I was on one of the ruins lot in Twikki Island, everything was running smoothly and suddenly my game started to crawl more slowly than I've ever had. I started looking around, trying to find an explanation, as it was perfectly working 5 seconds ago. Then I noticed some (3) sims (tourists and locals) standing around the hot water thing (big hot tub with rocks). They were standing still, not moving, so I found it odd. I made them selectable and they were all attempting to interact with someone in the hot water thing. As soon as I cancelled their action, the game started to play at normal speed again. I already had this once in a home lot (pets or seasons I don't remember clearly), with a maid attempting to do something (don't remember now) and failing for whatever reason. She kept trying, and the game crawled slowly, until I made her selectable and cancel the action.
I thought it was worth mentionning for people who have a big lag.

Redownloaded, the file is different (bigger and more recent). I will try it in game and report back.
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help Needed : finding pie menu text to change it on: 2007 September 11, 14:32:17
Thanks, I will take a better look in the objects.package. No fancy way to find what I'm searching like a search option somewhere ??
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help Needed : finding pie menu text to change it on: 2007 September 11, 12:37:12
I think it should be something along the lines of "go to terrain.../Community lot" and "walk to.../Home". Maybe in english they are consistent and it is both "walk to.../" ? Thanks
82  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti Vacation Actions: Death to all Nesses on: 2007 September 11, 12:34:03
Oh and my one sim that knows how to fire dance do not have the option anymore, while on his home lot.
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage dissatisfaction on: 2007 September 11, 11:16:29
That is normal : it is a community lot so changes are not saved, and your next sims to go can fix everything so that the witch doctor wants to give them the voodoo doll. Only hotels save changes in my gameplay experience, not ordinary vacation community lot.
The 2 other secret lot will behave the same as the witch doctor one, again so that different sims can go and grab the reward....
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help Needed : finding pie menu text to change it on: 2007 September 11, 11:11:16
No it is not in live.package but thanks anyway, as I did find in it the monikers for pleasure aspiration that are badly translated in french (they are translated as grilled cheese monikers for elders and teens, it is annoying and has never been corrected by EA), so i'm off to correct that.
I'll keep looking for the pie menu options for walking to a community lot.
85  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Help Needed : finding pie menu text to change it (SOLVED) on: 2007 September 10, 19:29:40
I've already done it to change some bad translations (mostly inconcistancies in that result in multiple menu when only one is needed (best example is the stereo, with the change station menu, in french you have, changer de cd..., mettre..., changer de style..., I edit that so everything is neatly under changer de style...))
I'd like to do that for the new self menu to walk to a lot, they used "aller sur un terrain.../terrain communautaire" and "aller à pied.../maison. I want to have both under "aller à pied" which make more sense.
I took a rapid look in the BV objects.package, but didn't find these texts. Anyone more awesome than me has some pointers ?? Thanks in advance.

Surely there must be some way to keep each greeting, dance, thing isolated to the appropriate vacation area?
That's what I would like to have as a mod. I don't care if my playable autonomously chants or use the greetings, or dance.... But I don't want the islander to do tai chi, and the far east peaople to slap dance and so on.... If nothing gets done to stop that stupid behaviour, the sims will only need to go to one destination to learn all of the gesture, dances etc...
87  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New BV Turn ons/offs on: 2007 September 10, 11:47:47
While we are on the subject of turn on and turn off : do you notice that some townies/downtownies are liars, when asked for what they like/dislike ?
I have often this problem : I want to match to sims, one playable, the other own not. I aske about turn on and turn off, change the playable sim to conform, and notice no change in attraction... More often that not, when I move in the townie/downtownie, I find that his turn on and turn off are far different from what he answered when I asked him....
It annoys me greatly... Anyone else having this ??
88  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Converting Pre-BV Accessories to fit in new BV Accessory Section on: 2007 September 08, 10:20:36
It doesn't seem to work : I took a pair of earrings and made the changes(subtype set to 8, and I try different bins (32, doesn"t work, a custom one, doesn"t work).... The earrings do not appear in game.... I think there's something more to change, but I'm not awesome enough to go further....
89  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Total hang-up when trying to play a community lot. on: 2007 September 05, 05:02:11
although Damien was able to function normally, he did have to buy 600 simoleons' worth of groceries for an econocool fridge which wasn't even anywhere near empty.
Do you mean you could not choose the quantity of food, or do you mean that the scale was 600 ? If it is the latter it is unfortunately normal since OFB I think, where the scale no longer take into account the fridge you have at home and how empty it is. If you mean the former, I don't know...

93  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Uni+LS Career LTWs on: 2007 September 03, 16:39:06
I think there is some sort of conflict with the new LTW memories for life stories careers : one of my sims (LTW business tycoon) shows a strange memory : the name is for slacker, the icon is for entertainment (life stories) but the one you have when you expand the memory is business (the career she actually maxed). I can provide a screenshot if it helps. Later she maxed athletics (LTW) and the memory is correct. Her husband maxed criminal (LTW) and the memory is correct.

94  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: PlantSim Eyes on: 2007 September 03, 04:59:45
That is until I got my first plant Sim. I was appalled that the Sim's eyes had turned back into Maxis default instead of the default override that the Sim was born with. A spawned plant baby also had the ugly eyes.

I also noticed that the werewolf eyes, while not as bad as some others, were also 'flat' looking. I downloaded replacement vampire and servo eyes, and they work fine, but haven't seen anything about werewolf eyes. I haven't done a serious search on werewolf eyes yet though.
Like Pescado said, the eyes (plant sim and werewolf) are part of the skin.

Quote
I once had a multi-pollination mod that chose from 8 alien fathers instead of 1. The spawn had no problems because the child would either inherit the alien eyes or the mother's default replacement eyes. But the modder had also included JM Pescado as one of the possible fathers. When an abducted mother gave birth to his child, the Maxis default eyes were given to the child instead of the default overrides. Reading that I would have to do a lot of work to replace the Pescado that she made with another 'alien' of my choice would be a big hassle (even if it was just fixing the eyes), I just reverted to the other alien mod that chooses from 4 aliens with alien eyes. This is what makes me wonder if Ideal Plant Sim is the root of the problem.
I think your problem here is that you lack the custom eyes used on the Pescado Pol Tech and you are seeing the skin eyes (default maxis brown) on the offspring because the game cannot use the missing custom eyes.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that snow days are random and different for private and public schools. SO you could have had the snow day for public and nothing for private, or vice versa, or nothing for both, or snow day for both....

If a business owner hires a teenager to work the cash register, for instance, they should be able to set the work schedule for the employee to show up at 2, so that they can stay in school

There is a fix for that too, not sure what it's called but I think it's a MATY hack. Not exactly what you want (totally customisable work hours) but at least it moves the teen work schedule to something school-compatible, 15:00-20:00 or somesuch .. but I agree with you, custom schedules would be the better solution =)

I may be wrong, but I think it is a MAXIS thing, that was corrected in the OFB Patch : teenagers had the same hours as adults pre-patch (9-17), and the patch changed it so that teenagers work 15-20.
The lot debugger or maybe the BRY has the option to choose between 9-17 and15-20.

Without any hacks, sims bring home people from the same career track only, no matter what rank.
So I guess from your explanation, except for the retired part, bringing home a military when you are in athletics is normal with your mod. I'm not sure I don't like it, so you don't really need to change it, but I like the retirement check, thanks.
Since downloading the new version (with retirement check) I did not have any sim brought home. (but I played less than usual).
98  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a way.. ? on: 2007 August 17, 17:42:47
I was wondering if there is a way to make certain blushes/lipsticks and other makeup to only be available for the sims with certain skintone?
You need to change the skintone line in the property set to the skintone you'd like. There's one maxis blush that already works that way. But it only works for one skintone. I don't know if there is a way to restrict a make-up to more than one skintone.

I use the version without no frat.
One sim was in the athletics career and brought home another who was retired from military and did not have another job.
I'll try your new version and will update if it happens again or not.

The other day, I had a sim bring home another playable who is RETIRED and from another career track.... I don't really know if it comes from this mod, but it is the first time I had this...
Everything was fine, except this particular sim should not have been chosen.
I use the version without no fraternization if it matters.
