Why don't you just buy a custom built pc? You can choose the component and/or OS you want, cost less, and generally way more flexible. I hate branded pc Because a). I have no idea what I could afford to skimp on and what I couldn't (WTF? How the hell should I know what kind of 'power source' I need?), and b). it looks to STILL be too expensive as it seems it won't even come with an OS, and c). I'm also looking to buy from a place that can offer me full customer support if I need it. Oh ok, but actually if you got it all figured out it's way easier and cheaper. Especially if you got some OS installation CDs, they're definitely come in handy Regarding the drivers, I think you can obtain various drivers for XP from the net. I'm wondering though, any reason not to use Vista? I heard a lot of bad things about it, and some good things, and I actually have it installed on one of my PCs and it works just fine actually. I don't notice any slow down whatsoever.

With almost 1.5 gb of custom content, my initial load screen is 35 seconds,to the 'hood is about 5 seconds (its sparse), to a lot is about 5-15 seconds depending on the size. It helps to have a hard drive that can load (at least) 50 MB per second, apparently. How do you check how fast your hard drive is?

Are you running the game in full screen? I play in full screen, and sometimes mine freezes like yours, but not for 10-15 minutes, more like 3-5 minutes, however, if I switch to desktop and then switch back to the game, it'll go to the loading screen almost immediately. I have no idea what causing it but it works for me

Problem I have is that my PC is not connected to the intnet atm, so don't know how useful those progs would be without it?
Very useful, I believe. I just checked the pcwizard one and it doesn't required any internet connection, just download the app and transfer it to your pc through a usb flash drive or something. Decent app, thanks notovny

well if you wanna get it off torrent, you shouldn't worry too much. Most torrents (from certain sites) are pretty safe, just make sure you read the comments posted for that particular torrent, it they didn't have any problem I think it's safe to assume it's free from malware and/or viruses

Also, this would be a good time to Defrag.
Also, kill explorer as well. Explorer is a huge memory hog. Kill it before playing.
I've had a similar problem since BV. Suddenly 2GB of RAM isn't enough.
Hey, Sara, can you tell me what I do to kill Explorer? I tried once via task mgr, but I apparently ended the wrong process, because it wiped out everything, leaving only my wallpaper, and I had to reboot to access anything. Actually you don't have to reboot, just select file --> new task, and type explorer, everything should come back

I had that problem about a year ago, but it was the trees and clouds in the neighborhood screen that looks like that. Turned out it was a corrupted cd, I borrowed my friends' base game and it works just fine. Didn't know that you can get a replacement disk, I ended up buying the base game again

Because I renamed the original exe file to a bak file, it would not ask me to replace it. So therefore, I believe I have the correct directory. C:/Program Files/EA Games/The Sims 2/ The Sims 2 Bon Voyage/TSBin
If this is not the correct folder I do need to know the correct one.
Oh yeah, silly me. I didn't back up the original exe because I can always get it from the original cd. Anyway, it should be the right directory. I don't know what could cause the error. Have you tried to run it in compatibilty mode?
