I do have smartlights and radiance lighting

The smart light hack breaks the pool lights, ergo you won't be able to enter the lots until you remove the hack, go back into the game and remove the pool lights, and then replace the hack (if you want to replace it, that is).  I've been using the radiance lighting without the smart lights successfully.  It just gets a little dark at sunset.

Ok that makes sense.  Thanks Motoki!  Kiss

There's a hack for naked nannies at the adult section of MTS2.

Oh, lord, say it ain't so!!

Poor baby will be scared for life heh.

No, that would be me LOL.  I still don't know why she was naked in the first place; maybe someone interrupted her shower? Lips sealed

You can see it in SimPE. If you open the package, then select the GMDC (Geometric Data Container) on left hand side, select one of the entries in the upper right window, then down in the lower part of the screen there should be a tab called "3D Mesh". Select that and look for the Faces= and Vertices= and those are the counts.

Motoki, which one matters more, vertex or face?  Does anyone even agree on this?  I ask because I've occasionally downloaded something that seems to have an adequate face count, but Pe tells me it can't count the vertexes (verteces?) as there are too many.  Or maybe it's the other way round.  I've not been using these things since I figure if Pe can't count it, I don't want to.

I do appreciate the effort you made way back in the day. I even had that thread bookmarked for a while and kept going back to it to see if anything new had been added.

idtamer, are you doing SimPe way or DatGen way?  I'm getting confused... Lips sealed  I thought by your earlier post you were trying to do SimPe, but maybe I'm wrong.  If you aren't, disregard this.

So no need to change the families at all? Cuz the tutorial had a whole big section about families, and I really didn't know what to set to what.
You do need to change the families.

The way I do it is to open a hair in SimPe.
Select the "Property Set" option on the left which gives me a short list of sets.
Then I go to my text file, highlight the family string (that's the b52b9d28-7b62-4f41-bd88-fb382721db82), right click/copy, switch back to SimPe and click on the first in the row of property sets, highlighting the family line at the bottom, and pasting that string in the box on the bottom right overwriting what is there.
Hit commit and go to the next property set, repeating all the way to the bottom.
Then, I go back to my text list and select the hairtone I am categorizing, let's pretend it's blonde.
I start at the top again, only this time instead of highlighting "family", I highlight "hairtone" and paste in the "00000003-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" all the way down.  Sometimes I skip the gray step and just throw them in the regular category cause I'm lazy lol.
Save it (it overwrites the original but provides a backup) and you're done.

It sounds more complex than it really is, especially once you know where the two things you are changing are.
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any Decent Custom Hair? on: 2005 November 10, 01:36:43
No, it's not a different family, but a different hairtone.

So, for the one that is gray, you'd put 00000005-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 in the hairtone line instead of 00000001-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 for black, or whatever tone you are working with.

The family number you enter in is the same for every hairtone.  The only thing that changes is the hairtone number. Smiley
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any Decent Custom Hair? on: 2005 November 10, 00:09:07
Datgen is completely confusing to me.  That's why I did it with SimPe, and it's extremely easy.  Link is in my post above for family numbers and hairtones.  The good thing about Pe is that you can see the texture if the filename doesn't tell you, especially since the base color is frequently not the correct one.  Undecided  Once you've done a few, it's ridiculously simple.

IMO, it's the responsibility of the creators to make their hairs work correctly with the genetics. I know Maxis didn't give us the tools to do that, but they didn't give us to the tools to make new meshes either and people have found work arounds for that.

Motoki, I agree with you, but since very few of the creators feel the same way, I've just been doing it myself.  Grin

I've got some custom hair that shows up in the appropriate colour with the asterisk on it - I prefer it that way, otherwise you get piles of hair in custom, and it just takes far too long to sort through.

If you have a little patience (or a lot, directly correlating with the quantity of custom hair you have... Wink) you can make it show up as Maxis genetic yourself.  It takes me less than 5 minutes to fix a set of 4 colors.  I've got the codes saved to a simple text file and just copy/paste in the appropriate lines.  It makes my life much simpler, and I get townies/downtownies/children spawning with these hairs.  The downside to that is occasionally I get a nanny spawned with what I consider "young adult" hair. Tongue  Anyway, the (plagiarized) tutorial is here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1204.msg42615#msg42615

Mokey, which of the nannies was it?

I think it was Kendall something. I recognize her name from Pleasantview; I didn't deleteall like I usually do with a new terrain and have been playing with the Maxis characters from the Academie.  In her defense I have to say that as soon as she finished peeing and cried for a second, she picked up the baby, put him in his crib, and left for the day.  Cheesy

Brynne, I adore that first picture! That face is priceless.  I've had that effect with Inge's crib and it's hysterical how they flop on the ground "helpless" afterwards.
86  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poor Baby! on: 2005 November 09, 04:57:07
Motoki, I would fall out of my chair if you used that as an avatar! LOL!  It was pure coincidence I happened to even see that--I heard Chaz cackling in the bathroom, I paused it and rotated to see what was so funny, and starting laughing hysterically.  Sounded a bit like Chaz, actually!  I just wish that picture weren't so dark--it was sunset;I have GunMod's fabulous lighting mod installed--and the lights hadn't come on yet.

Oh, and for those wondering about my computer specs, they're really quite modest. I play on a WinBook W364 (which is a pretty decent gaming lacktop, but lacks the flashiness of an Alienware.

Hell, I HAVE an Alienware (love it!) and it would drive me insane to have that many sims.  The only time I have more than 6 in a household is when someone unexpectedly has trips/quads.  Shocked  I have a thing about lag; I don't want it.  At all.  I want instant response and get mad when a lot takes more than a few seconds to load.  I compulsively delete objects, to the point where I've got very few new mesh objects and mostly stick with Maxis recolors.  I don't put but a tree or two on a lot. I won't use more than 2 stories, and prefer 1--hate to tab up and down and I don't allow my sims much free will. Hi, my name's Jennifer and I have serious control issues... Wink
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I have Simpotence on: 2005 November 09, 02:59:06
Aww.  I get like that sometimes too, and turn to MW (which I'm not even halfway through!  Shocked) or something and inevitably I wind up coming back to the Sims.  I usually start with something different, like building community lots--which I hate--doing the college thing-which I hate--or just starting a new neighborhood entirely.  Mebbe that's why I can never get past gen 2 LOL.  I'm determined one of these days to actually do a challenge.  The idea of playing entirely hack free is daunting though.

The sick part is, I still download crap for the game and haven't played it except to test files for weeks, but I can't stop looking for stop and downloading because I worry I'll miss something nice that I might want to use when I might feel like playing the game again at some hypothetical future point in time.

I did that for Sims1 until University came out.  At that point, I figured I really really wasn't going to reinstall and play it ever again, and deleted it all.  Grin

So, I've been one of the lucky ones in regard to nannies.  Mine usually don't pee themselves, actually take care of the babies, and rarely set the kitchen on fire.  So, I was horrified to find this scene in my bathroom this evening...The nanny (for some reason running around naked?) peed on my poor baby, unfortunately named "Lucky"! Shocked

I refuse to download the Insim, any version. What's the point of playing if you do?  Huh

I do however have and love the inTeen; I got it waay back when it first came out and have been following it around and updating it since.  I use the flavor pack to prevent miscarriage, though. I don't particularly like that one. Sad  (The inTeen is in fact compatible with 2J's Casual romance btw.)

77.77 (or something) seems to be the most stable I've found

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. sometimes older versions of drivers are better than the shiny new ones

Yeah, you know, I used to use 77.77 successfully--then I read after NL that object specularity (which as I understood it, it is basically what makes my countertops and schtuff  look nice and shiny and REAL) was gone.  We wound up restoring our hard drive and my husband insisted on using drivers recommended for WOW--nVidia 6.1.7.7--and not only do I have bumpmaps without Rivatuner, I seem to have got shiny countertops back.  Among other pretty things. Cheesy  Methinks I'll stick with this extremely outdated driver until I am forced to give it up.

Zephyr, I'm betting you have the new set from 4ESF in your game. It causes a crashing problem with the Chiclettina door.  I had found this out a few days ago, and was informed today that the door has now been updated.  Haven't tried replacing it in my game yet though.

So, what is the verdict on copying the file off the cd and reapplying the patch. Would that work?

No, I tried that earlier--see above post.  Wink  It will not reapply the patch--just tells me that NL is in fact up to date.  I wound up just reinstalling my game.  No big deal to me, but I know that's a last resort for most people, especially legacy players.

I don't mind.  I'm rather fond of starting over, anyway.  Wink Off to try it.

TSU: February 14 2005, 30367 KB

NL: August 17 2005, 41180 KB

Edit:  Just tried to run patch and "Sims 2 Nightlife is already up to date."

*Sigh*

I fail to see, however, how sending one simple PM asking for deletion of an account is harassment.  If a simple method for user-deletion was in place, one wouldn't have to request removal at all.  Anyway, I didn't send her a PM. I posted a message, which was promptly deleted and someone took the time to make me "not-banned".

While reading a ridiculous thread this evening, I erroneously "thanked" Vampcat rather than quoting (didn't realize the thread was closed). In actuality, I think re-creating someone else's mods just to avoid linking to a site that one doesn't like is absolutely the height of insanity.

I've come to the conclusion therefore that I would rather my membership here just be deleted.  I have no wish to continue visiting here now that the hackers I joined for have already left anyway. As I've no obvious method of deleting my own account, I'd appreciate it if an administrator here would be so kind.  They obviously have no qualms about it anyway.
