Title: Seasons Patch
Post by: Twain on 2007 March 30, 22:10:28
As first announced on MY forum :P

There is a patch for seasons out.

Also according to MaxoidGoonter if you have the latest EP...in this case seasons...you do NOT need to install the earlier patches with the exception of the second Pets patch..as those fixes did not make their way into Seasons.

ETA Here is the thread from my forum (http://www.thesporum.net/smf/index.php?topic=665.msg13102#msg13102)

Hmmm thats all it will fix ?

Complete list of changes:
Custom objects will now be preserved when uploading Lots to the Exchange.
Musician Career Track career reward (Rock Hammer) now has audio functioning correctly.
Sim Babies no longer cry excessively.

 ???

That's what I'm saying.  Not so much a patch but a stitch, or something of lesser sewing terms.

Hey at least they fixed something....better than nothing.

Normally it is months before EA does anything.

I'm trying to figure out why they need a 45.5MB exe to fix 3 things.

That is about the size of EP2 and EP3 patches combined  :o

Indeed. I was trying to say this for about three minutes because I couldn't seem to actually be able to post something.

Besides the ridiculous size of the thing, it should be pretty easy to spot a patch upgrade at least with that list being so small.

I didn't even check that (I'm at work, and so I'm not too interested in the patch right now).

It could have been interesting to ask goonter that when he was around (ETA: he's around now)...especially when he said that the individual patches only fix the respective EPs and are not cumulitive.

of all the errors and bullshit going on with this game they fix three things? ...i mean yeah, the little demon spawns screaming stopping is a good thing, but come on.
They have all those employees and this is all they come up with in the time they've had? I feel so sorry for all those exchange sheep...

this is totally the reason why JM is way more awesome...

Given that the patch is 45 MB, there is probably more than is explicitly listed. Once my game gets to a parking orbit, I will investigate and run a full diffscan to see what really changed.

Please, thank you. Usually those little patches with long long lists download zoom for me. That one was chuga-chuga. There's certainly something in it and I wanna know what it is before I break my game with it.

So the maxoid said for Seasons folk to install the Pets patch and the Seasons patch? So did he say if we need to *uninstall* Seasons to properly accomplish that? (Is very confused by how this EP and patch stuff works, as if the new EP doesn't access the old code (as Pescado says and makes sense to me being there's new code there) how can an old patch work with a new EP. Even if you uninstall the last one, then patch *that* code, when you reinstall, you got new code again - so it'd be... unpatched? Right?

Title: Re: Seasons Patch

Right. Like I said, there's probably something in there that isn't documented. Who the hell has time to document every stupid little fix? I sure don't.

The Seasons objects.package is 75Mb (up from  51Mb for Pets), so if they just include a replacement version of that file alone, they probably can't compress it much smaller.

you can install the pets patch with seasons installed no problem, just gives a little warning that says you have a newer expansion you may want to get a patch for that one

or you can stick to the fixes found here ...which also work

Right, I got that part. Actually you usually do document what you're doing as long as I find the time to read every little thread.

Quote

yeah, I did that, but the thread in 'you broke it' has a discussion about not getting all the fixes and Pescado says either way it's sugar pills. The fixes here don't fix the genetics - unless I missed another little thread here somewheres.

I see the Maxoids are up to their usual brain dead comments. Initially, MaxoidGoonter said:

Quote
Here is the definitive answer to this question, directly from the EP team itself:

You only need to apply the most recent patch for the most recent EP you have installed.

This is because the installation of your most recent EP includes all previous bug fixes, so there is no need to apply previous patches.

Then made this totally contradictory and illogical statement:

Quote
I think this one is an exception, because all the patch information from Pets didn't get into Seasons.

Just to be safe, if you have Pets and Seasons, you should install both patches.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Maxoids are all idiots who don't even listen to the tech team responsible for the actual work.

Title: Re: Seasons Patch
Post by: kuronue on 2007 March 30, 23:54:17
That made sense to me. How could the 2nd pets patch- which came out post seasons- have been rolled into the seasons EP? "the installation of your most recent EP includes all previous bug fixes"-- but the second pets patch isn't a previous bug fix, as it was created later on. So you still need it.

Title: Re: Seasons Patch
Post by: dizzy on 2007 March 31, 00:02:01
The EP team very clearly said that the Pets patch is of no value unless you are playing Pets. Therefore, if you are playing Seasons, the Pets patches do *not* fix anything. It's a placebo.

Unless there was more to the statement than what you've quoted, it says nothing about not using the pets exe. That's what JM and others have managed to figure out on our own. So if the other maxoid didn't know about that, I can see how he'd extrapolate that you need the pets patch still: they think that seasons includes the pets patches .5 and 1, but not 2, so you need 2. It doesn't work that way, but nothing in your quote says that.

Title: Re: Seasons Patch
Post by: Argon on 2007 March 31, 05:04:41
In terms of carried over effects, it looks like only these patches matter (assuming you have seasons):

The Sims 2: 1.0.0.971 (first patch, each expansion installs 1.0.0.999; change is reverted post 1.0.0.994?)
University: 1.1.0.284 (latest)
Nightlife: 1.2.0.355 (latest)
Open For Business: 1.3.0.351 (latest)
Family Fun Stuff: 1.4.0.142 (latest)
Pets: 1.6.0.273 (patch after the BodyShop fix)

This is only from using WinDiff to see what files actually change.

The patches above modify some of the files in the 3D and template folders, so those ones are needed for later expansions since they are loaded and not changed by any later expansions.

You keep quoting the same thing over and over. I'm pointing out how the statement you quoted could be misinterpreted, like it was, and you keep quoting it at me. "previous" is the key word: obviously the author of the second statement, rightly or wrongly, assumed a patch coming out after a subsequent EP is not a "previous patch".

Ok...after reading this thread I have no idea what is what..... my game is pretty much up to date except for the omgpetz  patch......    Im not planning on installing it right now since all of the problems seem to be fixed by the hacks here. But if I do need to install it... am I supposed to uninstall seasons then patch petz and reinstall?  Or is it a big waste of my time?  Or maybe some kind of human sacrifice is involved and theh shoveling all  my eps and do a random uninstall reinstall and install all the of patches at once? :P

Quote from: MaxoidGoonter

This is because the installation of your most recent EP includes all previous bug fixes, so there is no need to apply previous patches.

Seems like we do need both.

When I try to load a neighborhood after installing the patch, the choose-a-neighborhood screen is fine, but once I pick a  neighborhood, its load screen flashes on and off.  It gets the lights across the top that show that it's loading, but even when fully loaded, I still just have a flashing neighborhood load screen.  Oh, joy, oh, rapture!

Guess it's time to go through the hacks one by one....

So, if Seasons wasn't already bothering you, installing the patch may not be worth the trouble it will cause.

at least they fixed the problem with the sound missing from the guitar.

I was not using the career reward guitar exactly because of that, but now I notice that
when sims are going to dance when another sim is playing, they freeze for a few
seconds (the ones that are dancing) and then all sims jump off of the
interaction... including the sim that is playing... So far is the only problem
that i found after patching the game. I tried to enable "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true"
but no error dialog appeared... weird.

i was wondering if all you guys have the same problem... With the game patched
or unpatched.
another bug?
I'm playing only with seasons and nightlife installed.

Hmm my sound with the rock guitar is fine...
however that dancing thing is familiar, mine looks like a jumpbug as well except it happens when two people are on a date.  I also have had issues trying to "Toast" while at dinner, they jump then too sometimes.
This happened before both the pets patch and seasons expansion though and i haven't seen it in a while.

Edit: I dont have the seasons patch and i refuse to get it until official report of what it actually does.  I dont buy that something that big only fixes 3 things.  Plus ive actually got no issues with my game so far (touch wood).

I've had the teleporting issue since installing the phone hack, but only when a landline and cell are being used concurrently.

As to the Servos, I've not installed the Pets2 patch and haven't downloaded the Seasons patch yet.  However, the Servo in my first lot that was hit with a blizzard jumped into the pool.  He went from playing darts into the pool in a nanosecond.  Maybe snowflakes shorts their circuits?

Title: Re: Seasons Patch
Post by: sewinglady on 2007 April 02, 05:47:35
Okay folks, like an idiot, I installed it.

Now, my female sims with infants and toddlers all get the 'I can't leave my poor defenseless baby' thing when they leave the lot - for work or shopping, etc. in spite of the father being present...

And, I must have saved the game and quit due to something in real life, and did it in the middle of the day while a Sim was at work.  He was standing on the lawn and his car was missing...it never did show up...had to purchase another for him (thank goodness for rich dead uncles).

So unless there's something seriously wonky with your game that you KNOW that patch is gonna fix, skip it.

Title: Re: Seasons Patch
Post by: Gwill on 2007 April 02, 13:07:41
Installing patches or new EPs always causes a re-set.
Make sure all your sims are at home, and not on the phone or doing anything else important.  When you enter the lot they'll be standing next to whatever they were engaged with at the time of install; if they were off the lot they'll be standing by the mailbox, or the front door.

Title: Re: Seasons Patch

Denimjo are you sure you're using the right exe for Seasons Bodyshop?  When you install a new EP, you get a new Bodyshop too but the shortcut on the desktop still points to the old one and BS won't run if you use that.  I have to make a new Shortcut every time (or make the old one point at the new version of BS).

Really? well, maybe you have Uni installed. I didn't installed Uni.
Maybe the guitar was using sounds from the Uni guitar and
was not included with seasons.

I don't know about dating. But how you are not getting problems
with that career guitar? are you sure that you are using the career
guitar and not the Uni normal one? (that you can buy in the catalog)
I was so frustrated about this that I tought about to
track down what was causing the career reward guitar to reset. And
finally i found the problem and now is working fine.

I havent had any probs with it, the sound and everythings fine.  I was just really disapointed that the rock guitar had the same sound track to the normal guitar... i thought it would be more distortion and heavy metal :(

I've read through this whole thread but I'm still confused. I read Dizzy's "What part of no do you understand" LOL, but what I'm wondering is:
If I install the Pets patch, are there hacks that I should take out due to changes?  I haven't read much about the Pets patch at all except that most people were waiting until Seasons came out and just installing that.  I see, though, that there are things that were not included in the Seasons patch.
I just wonder if eventually there will be no more support for the fixes on this site that were already included in the Pets patch.
After reading all the contradictions, my brain hurts....
So, can someone spell out the steps I should be taking that would be the optimum way to go about this? Like so:

yes/no the Pets patch should/shouldn't be installed

You should install the Pets patch before/after the seasons patch

You should/should jump off of a building for not understanding the part about "no" that Dizzy politely mentions ::)

And any other miscellaneous info that might apply.

I am admittedly less than awesome....borderline anti-awesome.
Thanks!

You should install the Pets patch before/after the seasons patch

For what's worth: I installed the pets patch as it came out, and have had no issues (and yes, Seasons was already installed). As for the Seasons one, so many people have had problems with it, and it fixes so few things, that should the cognoscenti say it's fine, then I would, otherwise, why risk? I've had no problems since installing the second Pets patch (though I don't have Seasons yet), and it actually does seem to have fixed numerous things. I'm still not clear on whether the changes made in the Pets patch will stick once Seasons is installed, or what, exactly, the Seasons patch does, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
