Title: Apartments-a-go-go (3 lots)
Post by: Zazazu on 2008 August 30, 06:43:05
I'm sick of these dumb EAxis sims. If I can't play with my own until shinies like ACR are updated, I might as well build. I'm working on an indeterminate number of apartment buildings built with the new knowledge of how AL doesn't work. No CC. All require all EP up to/including Apartment Life. Any SP requirements are noted. Below, the first. Here, the second. (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,12883.msg367415.html#msg367415) And, the third. Oh Choice! I like the look of this, very urban! This one's a keeper.

Considering how many new condos they've been building around here, it's pretty easy to replicate the standard look. Although we don't get attached playgrounds...it's more like attached neighboring building!

I have to say you did a really good job on this one! *snatch* It'll be perfect for my selfsim and her family. ;)

I know how you feel about ACR. I snaffled the apartment you built for the August House of Fail, and I now have six Romance students who were having a high old time until yesterday, when I loaded AL.  Now they're just hanging around looking bereft.

I'm snaffling this building too. It has windows! Light!  I haven't found a single EA apartment so far that isn't gloomy and claustrophobic.

Yeah, I kicked out the sims living in the Crossroads one, and remodelled with windows before I put my sims in it.

The apartments themselves aren't bad, they just seem to have done them all in haste, forgetting things like windows!

I'm checking simbology daily.

ETA: I see you have the mailbox moved and another there as well. Does anyone know if it's possible to extract the new mailbox and make it buyable/functional? I used to have one from Sim a little dream a lot but it interfered with the new apartment one.
There's only one mailbox, it's just shown in two photos, because I took one from the back to show the open area with vending machine.

Two-bedroom unit:

Three-bedroom unit:

Roof:

Note: To use yard for bottom unit, you must add the door manually. I attempted to bypass the game constraints, but as soon as someone moved out it failed to recognize the unit as an apartment. Input the cheat "boolProp aptSubLotSpecificToolsDisabled false" after a sim has moved into the unit. Then add door.

I'm in the midst of creating another monster!  :D Although I have yet to work out how to get the game to see the underground carparks as part of the apartment. I suspect the room dividers have a part to play here.

I really love these! I played your first one for 2 hours yesterday, and it was very cozy and well done. I just have one question - is the some special reason you do not have windows in the bathrooms?

*snatches 3rd one*

These are really nice and look functional! I am so getting them when I get home. I don't really like the maxis builts. they seem to be badly designed. The one you made with the playground is especially appealing to me. BAAA!

I'm kind of an odd builder in that I don't really know what I'm going to end up with until it's most of the way out there. I really do sort of go into a trance. So, usually I've already set up the entire outside before I start cutting the rooms. Plus, I hate those itty-bitty windows. They almost always look out of place. My bathroom doesn't have a window.

Understood.  ;) I don't like those small windows either - I usually have normal windows in bathrooms and then use blinds on them.

Anyway, I like your design style - it's clean, elegant and straight to the point. But it's good to know to look out for windows on your lots, for when I finally install the lighting mod again.

Zaz, just an FYI -- the phone controller tagged along in your '5 Townhouses' package...

Yeah, I noticed that when I installed them on my real account.

Zazazu, just an FYI. I started playing the 5 Townhomes lot last night and I had to move the sim out and do some editing to make it work. Apparently, the stage foundation you used to make the landing causes the game to mark the upstairs area as a community area. Once I took out the landing and just had the modular stairs come straight down, the upstairs apartments worked beautifully. For the downstairs apartments, I had to edit the terrain so that the sim could walk to the doors--I guess the slope was just slightly too steep. Three clicks upward on the bottom of the square in front of the door did the trick.

I think it's a great lot and it looks perfect in my hood, but I thought you might want to know.
