Title: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: jezzer on 2012 March 08, 20:06:10
I think we need a centralized thread to talk about the latest EP.  Skadi, Sooze, and I are all reporting significant lag in Starshite Shores.  I'm getting pauses every 5 or 10 game minutes, with nighttime taking excruciatingly long to get through.

I was good for 3-4 simdays, then I started with the sound lag last night. I've also had an error 12 already. I'm saving once or twice a simday. I have patch 1.31, all EPs and SPs and no CC or mods - bar Awesomemod - whatsoever.

Post by: Skadi on 2012 March 08, 20:47:59
I have AM, a handful of mods all reported to be compatible [Buzzler's stuff]. It is laggy everywhere. Spurts and starts especially when you are in a venue. Previous large households [8+pets] in Sunset Valley 2nd Ed and Lunar Lakes did not have this issue. It's going to be a painfully slow road to stardom.

Are they routing errors?  Those seem to inflict ever single EA-made neighborhood.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: witch on 2012 March 08, 22:28:40
My sims have had no routing issues.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: jezzer on 2012 March 08, 22:30:03
I'm not finding any stuck sims, and resetsim *.* didn't help.  Usually that temporarily clears up routing issues.

I think I'm definitely going to wait to get this EP if you guys are all having significant problems.  Just from past posts I know you all had functioning games before hand and are experienced users.  Is that the only neighborhood with problems, or does this stretch across your whole game?

I'm playing with no cc except for some store hairs and NRAAS mods. My game is really laggy and jumpy in Starlight Shores compared to playing 1.29 with a metric tonne of cc. I've tried turning down my graphics (yes jezzer, my graphics can get worse) and restting objects, but to no avail. I have not tried any other hood yet.

ETA: oh, and I don't seem to be getting any sound coming from jukeboxes.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: Skadi on 2012 March 08, 23:38:15
I am about to test another world, to see if it's the new hood, or the new ep/patch.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: wizard_merlin on 2012 March 09, 19:24:03
I haven't tried a new world, but spent 4-5 hours last night continuing my game in sunset valley, patched to 1.31 and Showtime installed, and did not encounter any problems, definitely no lagging of any kind.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the new hood that is problematic, just like Bridgeport was buggy as hell when LN came out.  It seems like the original hoods fair better than the new creations whenever EAxis expand the game.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: Skadi on 2012 March 09, 20:01:12
I played Lunar Lakes for a little while with no issues, so I think it's just the new hood.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: Beldara on 2012 March 09, 23:18:42
The only issue I've noticed so far is with the sound shutting off randomly.  No lag here.

Running atm with just awesome mod, my cc folder is pulled.

I was having issues with some of NRAAS stuff, with the portaits all being highlighted and not selecting the active sim properly, but it didn't seem to be portrait panel causing it.
I've pulled it all until I can single out the problem.

Had a look in CAW, the routing paint is solid. The routing looks solid. That's unique among EA worlds. There's a road not connected in the middle of town, but I don't imagine that could be the cause. Figure it's probably a lot, but can't locate anything. No trouble in other hoods.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: virgali on 2012 March 10, 03:24:54
I'll most probably get sporked for using Simport but the bloody Simfests may show up at the same time and place where a Simport show got booked. This causes the show to stay in some kind of limbo where you can't complete it and thus can't use Simport anymore.

My Sim can no longer use her Swimwear hairstyle in-game; it disappeared and got replaced with some fugly Base Game crap.  I also have her in my SavedSims folder; and when I checked in CAS, the correct hairstyle was still there.  WTF?

The game is so used to shoddy routing that it just doesn't know what to do with itself, now.

They've replaced the "Steel Scalloped Roof" texture with something completely different.

I was hoping someone more CAW-savvy than me would check.  I've noticed that the venue lots have very shoddy pathing on the stages, with LOTS of people getting in one another's way, angry foot-tapping, etc.  During a Simfest, people not actually involved in the Simfest would get up on the stage like they were going to perform, only to have to cancel and get out of the way of the actual performer.  It reminded me of how you'd use the computer in TS2 and suddenly every sim in the house would zerg rush the room in an effort to turn the computer off.

I haven't had any/more lag in Starlight Whatever, but I have had several cases of the audio cutting out for a while (lets say five minutes) and then coming back on allofasuddenandrushedlike. It's very strange.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: Skadi on 2012 March 11, 00:51:08
I added some venues to Lunar Lakes, and had no serious issues. When my sim did her first performance though, ever sim in the audience had a route fail thought bubble.

I have not had lags but any sims that fish at the main beach where the fish are swimming are stuck there until I lead them out or teleport them out to where they need to go. It is fine at the more distant beach.

And I am having the screen go very dark like a few other people have reported.

I'm still Showtime free, but I had a similar occurrence in Bridgeport. Have you tried resetting the entire town?

I can second this. The sound in my game has been cutting out while testing a lot I've been building (a watering hole IIRC) in Builder's Island. It appears that the ambient sounds are cutting off the music playing from a jukebox inside the lot.

I have had lag in Starlight Shores that was getting progressively worse. Once I resetsim * the lags became shorter, but they're still there.

Also having the sound cutting out issue.

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!
Post by: daisylee on 2012 March 11, 15:12:55
I am having sound issues also, and now my singer cannot do anything such as audition, perform for tips, or whatever. She did simport out and back. My magician who had never been simported out still can get gigs.

Hosted a singer and had the screen go almost black again so could not see her at all.

Isn't the mute sound going to a syncronized fuckporridge caused by the bicycle?

I believe Twoftmama made a fix for that a while ago. Try googling for Shut The Flock Up or STFU Bicycle.

Fuck this, seriously I should be allowed to change my singers face and hair for their default outfit! Somehow mine bugged out and I am now stuck with the makeup and face paint style I did for a custom outfit, and can't get rid of it. Any ideas?

Title: Re: Lights! Camera! Inaction! SHOWTIME!

Change into your custom outfit, go to change appearance, make sure you've unticked the lock icon that saves hair and makeup for all outfits.

Another Simport related issue that's been getting worse and worse for me. The Sim's cell phone gets cloned and can't be silenced. When it rings I get multiple phone icons in her queue and multiple rings which is incredibly annoying. I tried resetting the sim several times but that didn't fix it. Every time she returns from a SP gig she doesn't recognize her own bed. I have the option to sleep in Rachel's bed but she's Rachel. As if she's a clone of herself.

I'm having lots of hang-ups with the two Magician trick boxes, both on stage and off. They'll hang mid-trick and won't cancel out, just staying up in the corner with the red X through the icon.

The phone has also stopped working at some unknown point on both my magicians. I can still call Sims from the relationship panel, but can't do anything from the cell phone or from any house phone. I can click all day, there will be a very brief stutter of lag, and no menu pops up.

Found a work around to change the default career outfits hairstyle and makeup. If you use NRAAS's MasterController, go to the options for sims and select the "Stylist part" (I assume this would also work with the actual stylist booth, unsure), select the default outfit, and then hit back, you are now able to change the makeup/accessories and hairstyles of the default career outfit. Make sure you don't set it for all outfits if it's something crazy, worked for me!

Edit: Okay another issue has arisen, for some reason the third outfit in my custom careers outfits refuses to save, if I reload my game or anything of the such, it has reset and only has 2 outfits.

If you reset a magician sim, they may lose the Box of Mystery and Box of Danger.

My magician was taking part in a SimFest in the park and was about to start a new trick when the "Finish Show" action popped up. For whatever reason his queue froze. I couldn't right-click to cancel either of the actions, nor would they proceed on their own. After letting him sit frozen for a while, the only way out seemed to be to reset the sim.

That worked, sort of, but I didn't notice that his magicians' boxes had disappeared until it came time to set up the next show on the following day. Of course, I had already overwritten my old saves by then so I couldn't revert to an earlier one.

I haven't found a way to get the equipment back. It's not in BuyDebug or anywhere else I looked. Trying to quit the Magician career and signing up again didn't seem to work. Evicting him or the complete family then bringing them back in didn't help either.

So if you have to reset a magician sim, I suggest making a special save point beforehand in case this happens.

I mentioned before that custom outfit number 3 kept resetting, now it's worse! I cannot use the dresser, stylist or anything for that matter, and I have a feeling it's because of that outfit. If it helps, I am not sure if it's entirely related, but she was wearing the Katy Perry dress.

Have you checked this out in a new game, at least verify that your current game isn't headed for an explosion?

I got Showtime yesterday. Haven't done much with it. I don't think there is ANYTHING in this expansion that couldn't have been added to Late Night or Generations. Fucking EA shortchanging us. Starlight Shores is also APPALLING to look at. I know they were aiming for a sort of dated 1950's Los Angeles mixed with modern style, and it reflects in the house designs quite well, but the town itself is a goddamn eyesore. Thanks for the interesting house designs EA. Allow me to steal them and put them someplace halfway decent like Twinbrook.

I had time today to try out the Singer proffession in Starlight. My Conan O'Brien lookalike had gotten to Talented Amateur and was about to score his first gig when a botched Sing-A-Gram sent him into a pants on fire panic. Being that it was the middle of a big park and he couldn't very well jump into the lake, he died. Theres some kind of moral lesson or irony in there I can't quite discern.

I'll do this soon as I get time, currently writing an essay.

Edit:  So I tested this, and had no issues. Went back into my game, and the outfit is now sticking, although I didn't test with the Katy Perry dress. I have no idea why all of a sudden it started working.

On a separate note also, I noticed this in one of the new homes in Starlight Shores:

(sorry for the darkness) There appears to be a different bottom, the original looks like the one on the right, while the left one I have no idea where it's from. You can't change it, and it's is the exact same object in the catalog. The first thing I did was see if it had to do with the certain fish placed in there, nope. Anyone know where this is from?

Im curious where this second bowl design came from, it's not available to edit.

Yes I am, and no it doesn't.

Weird, because I took it out, and swapped the fish around, bowls stayed the same, I tried with a fresh fish, bowls didn't change at all, tried with fresh bowls, bowls again didn't change.

See some of the bottoms.

Edit: I got my Sim a Bowl and stocked it with a Goldfish. But insteed of keeping the green Plant for Goldfish it changed to Metalbars for Robofish.
It looks like they changed the script for the Bowl. If i put a Base Game Fish from Inventory into the Bowl it gets the Bottom which is assigned to the Fish.

No the bottom of the Bowl is not an effect its Part of the Mesh. I stocked twice with a Goldfish from inventory and it changed to Metalbars, but stocking the same Bowl with Jellyfish got me the pink bottom it should have. Looks like Goldfish should have Metalbars.

Oh, since you said the goldfish got the metal bars that belongs to the robofish I figured it's borked. It's been a while since I used the fish bowls but I don't recall ever seeing the bottom change for goldfishes. So that's something they changed recently, with either SHT or a patch?

Is anyone else having an excessive amount of ep-related wish spam?

I keep getting sims with no ep-related traits or ltw rolling up wishes to host some sort of act. The want to hit the karaoke bar I can handle. The want to host stuff 4 & 5 times a day at the cost of trait & ltw-related wishes is not so great.

Same here, to many Simport wishes. I hate them.

The Script for the Bowl has to be updatet with every EP which provides new Fish you could put in it.  I am not sure when it changed.

The reason that any sim will roll up those wishes is because any sim is able to host performance sim. They don't need to have SHT traits to be able to host sims so of course they won't need need to have those traits to be able to roll up the wishes. If they don't have the appropriate careers and/or traits and they roll up wishes to use simport to be sent away to perform, that would be a problem. Also there's always the chance that they updated some of the previous traits to be "compatible with SHT". The latter is of course pure speculation on my part.

@Havelock: gotcha and thanx.

Granted, and I can accept a certain level of ep-related wishes. It's just that the current status quo exceeds that level by a long shot. None of the other eps combined come close to the epic level of SHT-related wish spam in my game.

I'm not expecting a fix for it (although if it did happen I would grab it with both hands) I'm just bitching about it because this is the MATY bitch about SHT thread.

@floopyboo: I agree with you that it's excessive, unfortunately it's designed to work that way. I have the same problem with celebrity opportunities.
@Skadi: The simport wish spam isn't all that bad in my game. Maybe it's cause I've been playing off-line then? I'm even playing one of the SHT professions.

I've got a singer going and he's only wished to SimPort or host about five times.  It didn't seem excessive, though it would be nice if he only wished for things that would be possible (I don't and never have played online).  It's like the Sims who wished for hot tubs when I didn't have LN.

I noticed yesterday that with either SHT or one of the accompanying patches (I installed them in quick succession), the wall speaker that came with LN has lost two of its design presets and is no longer wall shiftable.
If I knew which bit of the file controlled presets I may take a look at it, but I don't.

Which category are you selecting it from? There appears to be two versions of the speaker. The Community Lot Objects version has the alternate designs available, while the Buydebug version does not, for whatever stupid reason.

I was looking at the buydebug version as I didn't manage to find the Community Lot version (I was on a community lot). I could just have forgotten where to look though and only checked the audio section instead by mistake. I don't remember now.
