Title: Ceilings are Borked
Post by: BlueSoup on 2009 February 06, 20:42:40
For some reason, my ceilings have ceased working - I can't place or see them anymore.  I know exactly how to place and see them and up until a few days ago, I could do it just fine.  Then it just stopped.  Last time this happened, I actually uninstalled and reinstalled AL and M&G, and that worked, but I really don't want to have to do that again.

Anyone have a problem like this, or heard anything like it?

You've got the little toggle thingie for ceilings toggled, yes?  Never hurts to ask the obvious.

It's surprisingly easy to accidentally hit the ceilings button. If it is off, just turn it back on.

I know how to place the ceilings, all of that is how it should be.  They still do not show or let me place them.

Graphics card issue? Do the lower end computers even have this option?

I would think that if you have ANY real graphics card at all, ceilings should work.  I'm running with an on-board ATI X300 (very low-end) and I get fingers, toes, ceilings, shadows, reflections...in short the works.  It may be a memory issue, I suppose.  Does the game start with ceilings visible, but lose them later on?

Latest drivers installed?  I recently had a graphical glitch with AL, which was fixed by new drivers.

Maybe drivers? I have an 8800GT and my computer has 3GB of ram and isn't low-end, so I'll try updating drivers and report back.

ETA:  Updating drivers did nothing. :(

Forgive me for pressing Phyllis' point, but you have not specifically stated that you have tried toggling the ceiling display button. Your reply only indicated that you knew how to place ceilings.

Yes, I toggled the ceiling icon.

What happens when you look at the lot in build mode?  Is there a plywood floor above your level, implying that the ceiling exists?  If not, try putting a floor on top of your level.  The ceiling should then exist on the floor below.

My ceilings disappear all the freaking time, even with them toggled on. When it happens, I hit pagedown until I'm at ground level, then hit pageup (however many times needed) and they reappear.

The floors are placed on the floor above, but still not able to place or see ceilings.

I tried that; didn't work. :(
