Title: Wedding Arches Bug?
Post by: Cynarra on 2008 February 11, 17:50:36
I don't know if this is a game bug, but I haven't seen much information regarding this issue.

 ???
I was making a church lot and setting it up for wedding. The Trellisor Wedding Arch and the "I Showed Up" wedding arch are both available to place on community lot.

I can place the Trellisor Wedding Arch anywhere on the lot. However, when I go to the "I Showed Up" wedding arch from the Celebration Stuff Pack, it won't let me place it on the lot.

If this is residential only, why does it show up in my community sort? Is there a fix so you can use the arch on a community lot? Or is this a bug?

Thanks!  :D

(I have all stuff packs and expansions installed)

Do you have a mod that also community weddings? Are you using a special residential/downtown collection?

Normally the wedding arch is never available in the community buy mode unless you have a mod or something that enables it.

That CS arch is buggy. It doesn't place on community lots in my game either. I know others have reported this; I just can't remember if it was here or another site. But, yeah, it's borken.

I would guess that the reason you can't place the Celebration Stuff arch is because EA is teh dumbz and didn't include an update for it with BV that would let it be placed on community lots. I'm guessing you'll have to use a hack to make the CS arch BV-community-lot-wedding-enabled.

I'm still wondering why the normal arch is available to place on community lots. Unless that changed with BV and I'm not aware of it, it shouldn't be possible to place ANY wedding arch on a community lot without a hack. Try checking your downloads folder with the sims 2 clean installer.

An advertised feature of Bon Voyage is community weddings.  The bugs in BV community weddings have been discussed on this site -- something about scheduled honeymoon vacations causing errors, I think.  That is why the arch is available on community lots.  (And yes, Eaxis is beyond dumb to forget about updating their crap pack items for the new XP.)

Yeah-it don't work. Like the cakes don't place in the decra-chill cabinet in OFB. Lord Darcy is pretty good at fixing stuff like that, maybe he might take a request?

Cooked up a quick fix in here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,11100.0.html).

I wasn't aware of this bug, as I always throw wedding parties at home.

How very typical of EAxis. They don't give a damn about updating stuff pack objects. They updated FFS objects for Pets. Why can't they do the same for other SPs? >:(

EAxis finally broke the bug in collection file, which in fact is a very useful feature that enables community-only objects to be placed in home lot, (like restaurant podiums or clothing racks), and vice versa. Instead of killing a useful feature, they could have fixed any other gazillion bugs.

Ah, I haven't played with many of the BV features yet. Apologies for the totally useless advice.

I always throw weddings at home too, and even then the scheduled honeymoon is touch and go, at best.  It worked find for the last wedding I had, but somehow the previous wedding, the bride decided right at the end of the party to "clean up" and that stomped the "go to limo" action for her.  Groom was going off to Twikkii without her, so I forced error and reset to avoid any "my sim went on holiday and disappeared" possibilities.  It does not surprise me that comm lot weddings don't work well.

I don't get the wedding limo anymore....how are you still getting yours jolrei? If I don't book a honeymoon then my sims just stay at home when the party is over. If I do book a honeymoon then the shuttle comes. No honeymoon limo whatsoever. :-\

[edit] Nevermind-I think you meant the shuttle, not the limo. ;)

As you say - my error.  I did, in fact, mean "shuttle".

The reason Celebrations crap isn't updated for BV is because Celebrations crap isn't a part of the objects.package, unlike core-expansion objects, which are included in objects.package, only deactivated if you lack it.

Nah-it was my fault. I should have read and understood before posting. ;)

Okay, this really needs to stop. This sort of behavior goes against everything that is MATY and well, I just won't stand for it. This is not the BBS; please act accordingly. We do not enjoy hugging or the use of Z instead of S here (I suppose that there is an exception for lolcatisms, but that is fairly narrowly defined). Lurk MOAR.

Let's be serious people. MATY is not "special;'" it is not the super-better-than-you club. It's a website about the sims. Expecting people to lurk before ever posting a sims-related question or to learn all of our inside jokes (like the rule of 6) is just ridiculous. As is half the FAQ, frankly. I realize it was meant as a joke this time, but you all really need to get a life. Oh, and stop referring to things with abbreviations as though everyone knows what they mean, or to creators without referencing which site they are from.

Thank you for your advice. What do you recommend I do with the life I currently have?

Storage. You can never have too much storage.

Title: Re: Wedding Arches Bug?
Post by: witch on 2008 February 19, 06:16:46
Good point.  :D

I've been paring my life down for about 2 years now - just getting rid of crap I don't need, don't use, don't like and am sick of cleaning. It's a great feeling.

So storage sounds good.

*laughs* I can't hang on to things to save my life. I get into cleaning modes and I throw everything away.

Getting transferred over here to Hong Kong was just about the best thing that could have happened to us. Nothing like picking up and moving to the other side of the planet to make you pare down to the essentials. Without that massive impetus I'd have *never* managed to get rid of all the crap we had sitting around that I wouldn't possibly have needed ever again. Of course, now that we're here and have NO storage, I have naughty, wistful thoughts about our old walk-in closets. Ooh, baby, the storage...

I would love to put a bunch of the stuff in my current life into storage, followed by a tragic fire at the storage facility.  I might be able to move in my basement again.

Emma-

Just ask yourself three questions while cleaning:

1) Do I use this?
2) Will I use it?
3) REAALLY? You had for this long without using it...

I helped all my friends pack for college.

I do try Jel, but it is really hard to get rid of junk when each owner is saying '...but mum, I NEED that' to every single thing they own ::) On a plus note, I have no junk left. Got rid of all mine at Christmas (no, I didn't give it as gifts...) ;)

That's when you have to be firm, Emma. Raise an eyebrow and stare. Eventually, they'll give in. With kids, you can point out that you can give it some kid that WILL use and enjoy. Or conversely, if they get rid of this piece of junk NOW, it gives them more room for things they'll actually play with later.

I've adopted the Alton Brown method for determining if I really need to keep something (other than important papers of course).  He originally applied it to kitchen gadgets, but it works for anything.  If you're not sure about something, stick a piece of masking tape on it and put today's date on it.  Then stick it in a 'six-month' drawer/closet/whatever.  If you don't take it out and use it within 6 months from the date on the tape, you probably don't need to keep it. :)

Or you can try the e-Bay method: If you can get almost as much as you paid for it, SELL!

Yes, the eBay sell method is very popular here, too.  Unfortunately, the wife is also a big fan of its corollary, the eBay buy method. :P
