Agreed.  Who has ever had a crush after a date and not felt dismay when you saw the person out with someone else even though there was no implied commitment when your date ended?  I could certainly see reactions that involve losing some points off of relationships and maybe negative points toward the other person your crush was on a date with.  But I would think this would be limited, certainly not something that ends up in a slap-fest.

Whats the deal when a lightning bolt is crossed out?
I believe it means there is no chemistry between the 2 sims. I've noticed it often happens when one them is Family and the other is Romance.

The red-X through the lightning bolt means bad chemistry as opposed to the absense of a lightning bolt which means neutral/none.

Usually if you see the red-X there's also a fairly good chance that if you have the involved sims check one another out, one will react with red-Xs floating above their thought bubble instead of hearts, and they'll mime a puking motion.  Doesn't always happen because sometimes bad chemistry doesn't involve turn-ons/offs.

If you don't want to place one on your lot, there's a bonfire already placed in that downtown park that has both a north and south side.  The bonfire is in the north one.  Made a mental note to myself that it might be fun to visit the park at night and try it out.

Some of my sims are monogamous, others are not. The only morality I keep them to is that I nearly always have them breed, because for some reason I can't stand having many sims with no family history. When I make CAS sims I usually make them toddlers and kill off the adult with them, then have one of my gay couples adopt them.

When you do this, does the game favor handing out kids for adoption who were once with families ahead of random ones?

Whenever I'm in a downtown club, store, park, whatever, if the game randomly puts two other sims there that are a couple and they start socializing they almost ALWAYS get around to starting a pillow fight!

Seriously, this has happened like five or six times now.

The latest was a trip to that Trap Door Corp place.  My sim was just taking a leisurely jaunt through some lesser visited lots.  He stopped, bought some cologne and a lot of sims began showing up.  Two were an elderly couple from the neighborhood.  And they start running around the store hitting each other with pillows.

AAAARRRRRRRGH!!!!

That makes sense. I was wondering why none of the downtownies are freakishly hideous like random generated townies tend to be. You should have seen some of the creatures University gave me. I had that surgery machine working overtime.

Oh god, don't get me started with the looks of my college crowd in the game.  Tongue

Honestly I'd swear the evil mascot was running around beating students with the ugly stick.

wow, is this a new career track in NL?

Although Jordi pointed out there's a model job in the showbiz career, I actually downloaded the modeling career from MTS2.  I had several households that I didn't want to touch until the issue of custom careers had been resolved because I didn't want sims to lose their existing jobs, but I heard from several people at custom careers weren't causing any conflicts, so I restored them to my game.
236  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maybe Bella isn't as dead as some of us would like to think. on: 2005 September 25, 17:11:04
I think those townies were specifically created in BodyShop or CAS by Maxis and imported into the game with their NPC/Townie maker.  Makeup, costume makeup, facial hair, and stubble are still not included in a randomly generated sim, and for good reason.  Since the game already can't distinguish pleasing eye combinations, imagine if it was randomly applying make-up to the women!  And yet there are several downtownies that have these categories of stuff.  Well maybe not facial hair, but I've spotted a number of male downtownies with stubble.

The whole issue with the Goth family really annoyed me from the beginning.  So I used SimPE to export the family's templates to BodyShop.  I made new versions of each family member (except Alexander), set them to the ages they were in the Sims 1, and brought them in as a new family into the game.  I had the old Mortimer befriend the younger one, have him and his family move into the mansion, then moved out the old Goths and deleted them from the family bin.  Deleted all the tombstones too.

So I've been playing the new Goths with none of the Don Latherio intrigue or anything like that.  I got rid of all the other default playable households except for the Pleasants.  My Bella and Mortimer have had quite a nice life.  Mort is still a scientist.  Bella is a model.  Both are pretty close to turning into elders now.  Cassandra went through college and married another local rich boy (they have a daughter now).  Mort and Bella also had two sons in the game -- Nicholas (adult) and Jeffrey (teen) -- who are both FAR better looking than Alexander ever was!
237  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Morality & The Sims on: 2005 September 25, 16:35:22
I play many varied families -- gay, straight -- with bisexuals added into the mix.  Many couples have children, but some do not.  I have one extended gay family which using the same-sex pregnancy option I've stretched reality a bit and made them a multi-generations "legacy" family of sorts.  Generally pick one child to carry on the family and the others sort of mix and match according to their own interests.  Lots of straight families as well.

My sims on the whole tended to stay monogamous, too.  But now that Nightlife has come along the whole dating and relationship thing has changed and here I am in a neighborhood full of already paired up couples for the most part!

It's made me re-think my carefully laid plans.

I've got a male couple where one is bi (Logan) and he's ready to jump ship with the single girl who lives across the street (Rachel). They met in college. She's a romance sim, and he went from popularity to pleasure sim.  The chemistry between him and his boyfriend (Scott) is fine, but she outscores Scott by a huge amount on the LTR for Logan.

Then I've got this straight couple, Todd and Roxanna.  They just got married and she got pregnant before I installed Nightlife.  I thought of them as "made for each other", and they are just as sweet as anything with 100/100 relationship scores for each other. And they both come from long-run families in my game.  So then I install Nightlife, set their turn-ons and turn-offs to compliment each other... and they only have "weak" chemistry.  One lightning bolt.   Huh  After she has her baby, I have them try for another.  Two attempts and not only no baby chime but their woo-hooing has no fireworks!  I then forced the pregnancy to happen with a cheat, and she gave birth to a baby boy.

One other gay couple (from the legacy family) also seemed to have a pretty happy marriage with one kid already.  Then while I'm playing a single gay male (Leo, a family sim) going out on the town for dating, he meets the half of the couple who's also a family sim (Charlie).  They have three lightning bolts, and after some mind interaction with each other Charlie keeps showing up at Leo's house and ringing the doorbell or calling and asking to go out.  Now I was very reluctant to indulge this and trying to figure out why would a married family sim behave this way?  So I kinda let things develop organically.  Leo got into a big altercation in front of his house with the local mean-guy sim who kicked over his trash can.  Afterward he called Charlie and they met at the 50's Diner.  They had a "Dream Date" and even though they went back to Leo's, Leo wouldn't have him come inside. They made out by the front door and Charlie went home.  Then Leo got roses from him... (sigh)

In all my families, I develop back-stories to fill in the "why" questions for things happening the way they do.

Logan is simply a flake. He's an broadway star actor, stunningly handsome, and a playboy.  He's already pissed off Scott with his shenanigans with Rachel, and Rachel is just aching to put a Logan-notch on her bedpost.  It remains yet to be seen if Logan and Rachel just have a fling or stay together, but Scott (a really sweet guy in many respects) is just going to have to join the single crowd again.

Todd and Roxanna are going to find that the initial pizzazz they thought they had is just not deep enough.  They'll likely carry on for awhile but I think times ahead are going to be rough for them.  Sometimes the best laid plans just don't work out, just like in real life.

Charlie and his husband Brandon are an interesting case.  They only have medium chemistry.  Brandon is kind of a odd guy, but likable.  I can only interperet Charlie's affair as a deep-seated dissatisfaction with Brandon despite the fact that they have *another* kid on the way.  I feel fairly certain they will break up and Charlie will gravitate to Leo.  Who gets the kids will be interesting. One of the kids will be next in line to carry on my legacy gay-family's next generation.  Brandon, I'm thinking, would be the perfect candidate to let this experience nurse his bitterness and raise a cowplant since I haven't had one in my game yet.  I'm not going to let it eat Charlie or Leo, but I keep thinking Brandon might turn psychotic and feed some townie dates to it.  He really doesn't have chemistry so far with anyone except Charlie for some reason.
238  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Testingcheatsenabled in the CAS with Nightlife on: 2005 September 25, 15:44:14
Well I went and checked and no, they weren't enabled.

The friend of mine who claims to have found this hack listed on a web site somewhere said he tried it himself.  But he and his kids were only infrequent players and their interest waned after playing the game for about two months or so.  When I finally remembered to ask him about it again, he couldn't remember how to do it or the website that told him how.

 Undecided
239  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Testingcheatsenabled in the CAS with Nightlife on: 2005 September 25, 02:14:58
Anyone tried this yet? There's a few funky things. You can get Mrs. Crumplebottom's outfit and pillbox hat hairdo for elder females. The outfit's body apparently doesn't have the fat morph though because it stays thin looking no matter what the sim's fitness level is.

Another nice thing is the gypsy hair with the bandana is actually available for not just elders but also adult females in every color. The gypsy outfit is only for elders, but I'm going to see if I can modify that in SimPE.

A friend once mentioned to me that there's a way to get the missing facial adjustment controls in CAS (the ones that are present in BodyShop) by using a cheat.  Is Testingcheatsenabled it?

Sometimes I get a little cranky over the fact that CAS has fewer controls and I have to quit out of the whole game and start BodyShop to get a Sim's face exactly how I want it.

My pork chops went away too.  I actually thought it was replaced by 2 items by Maxis - Chicken Fettucini and Baked Chicken.  Dumb me...

Maxis released two new food objects? When did this happen?
242  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Townie & NPC Maker is a tool now, not a cheat? on: 2005 September 20, 23:23:10
I loved you hack, dizzy.

Did you add the extra functionality like townie count and generate 5 at once type stuff?  Because the Maxis object in Nightlife doesn't have all the options yours did.

243  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Townie & NPC Maker is a tool now, not a cheat? on: 2005 September 20, 22:33:02
I don't know if anyone else brought this up yet or not.

When you install Nightlife, the "Townie & NPC Maker" is available in the Buy Mode Collections group in a folder at the end of the list with the EA Games logo on it.  I know it isn't a hack.  I do not have Dizzy's version of it in my downloads folder.  Additionally it looks like a bare tree and has all the functions included for generating Nightlife NPCs and downtownies.

I know this kind of functionality was previously a part of the whole boolprop cheat group.  So the question is did Maxis give us this hidden bonus on purpose, or was it supposed to be something that got removed before shipping?
