Maxis cars as driveable NL cars - super hard??

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Hiya everyone, just a quick question today,

How hard is it to convert maxis premade cars to be driveable, ownable NL ones? The one I was thinking of in particular was that wincy little red sports car in the athletic career track (I think Daniel pleasant has it as his initial carpool). I'm assuming that all the neccessary animations for getting in/out are already somewhere in the game as are the graphics for the actual car but I'd be interested if anyone has any idea how hard this whole process would be. Cheers

I don't know anything about modding cars, but did you know that there's a Porsche Boxster at MTS2?

It may not be exactly like the cute little car that comes in NL but it's rather nice Smiley

I know!  He's been a busy little auto-bee.  I have a few of his and they're quite good.

The sheer number of cars done by 3rd party people compared to the 5 that Maxis did really makes Maxis look lazy. As this thread points out, they didn't even bother to make all of the ones in the game buyable.

It's curious why more of the in-game cars have not been made. We have the limo, towncar, and police cruiser, but that's it. Weird. I would think it must be easier to use existing vehicles than to make new ones, so why hasn't anyone?

As well as the cute little red sports car there's also a nice blue one that some of the uni careers tend to use...  I'd love for them both to be made ownable.

Don't forget the Hummer for the Military career. I like that one.

Exactly! Now I can do no more than basic recolours and play round in simpe so I have very little idea of whats involved in making cars, lol, but i would have thought it would be MUCH easier to use what maxis has already provided rather than creating an entirely new mesh. Which brings us back to the purpose of this post, does anyone know of a reason why this would be SO hard that it causes people to go off making their own meshes instead?

I believe someone said that why the Maxian cars aren't drivable is the seat position.  However, it's really odd seeing custom cars at what appears to be different heights and no one has even retried putting the Maxian cars in there.

Also, what's up with people not posting Polygon counts on these cars?  I thought it was required when a new mesh was posted on MTS2.

It's off and on I think. I don't think they really enforce that kinda of thing.

Here's a question to you people who've downloaded Fresh-Prince's cars: is the interior detailed, and are the cars fully functional (i.e. can you woohoo etc)? I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to downloading cars, that's why I only have those made by Bonus and VirtualJack.

Edit: of course, that's 2 questions but hey, you know how good I am with maths!  Tongue

I believe so, I think I already had one of his cars in game, but I can't remember. When I get home I can test these new ones.
