Title: Alienware for OFB
Post by: Motoki on 2006 March 14, 23:41:59
I haven't been keeping up with many sites lately, so forgive me if someone has done this already, but I updated the Alienware computer for the OFB business options, as well as the University college options, the latter of which I know others have already done.

It only took me about a minute or so to do, so it's no big thing. Feel free to upload it elsewhere, no credit is needed unless you want to credit MaxoidMonkey since he made the mesh. ;)

I've been using it with the business and real estate option and have had no problems but let me know if you run into any.

This REPLACES the old Alienware computer so make sure you delete your old alienware package file. When you load any house that had an Alienware computer in it, it will still be there and now should have the business options. No need to sell it and rebuy.

*Edit: If you have OFB but not University this probably will not work for you. If someone wants to send me a cloned version of a computer from their game with OFB but no Uni I can easily make a non-Uni version or I can tell you how to do it.

I always liked this computer, but dropped it when UNI came out, so I'm glad someone is doing the job that Maxis(sixaM) isn't.

Thank you Motoki!  I quit using the alienware with UNI also and I missed it.  The Maxis ones are so ugly.

THe Alienware one IS a Maxis(sixaM) computer.

I think she meant Maxis, as in the in-game pcs.

I'm glad that computer is fully functional again.

From what I can remember, the old package had the green and orange recolors.
Thank you for the black recolor!

I think the black came with it. I didn't mess with the recolors. :)

The original package had black, green and blue.  :)

Yes, that is what I meant.

I don't see a link. Does the [404'ed!] notation at the bottom of Motoki's post mean that this download is no longer available? I haven't used this PC in a while, but I'd sure love to if it has all the functions again.

The site was down and all the downloads got erased. Just wait a while, it has to be posted again.

I was afraid that might be the case. But at least we now have a snazzy new graphic on the entry page.  8)

Sorry about that. I didn't take it down, the site went all splodie BFBVFS on us.

Anyway, it's back up.

Thanks for that explanation. I wondered why so many files had "404-ed" notations.

And thank you for the updated Alienware, Motoki!

So if I am getting this correctly, not only we can use your version of the alienware in University (meaning we can do terms paper on it) and we can also use it to manage our business, right?

Thanks bunches, Motoki!  It'll be nice to have this x-packs enabled. :)

You should be able to do term papers with it yes, but let me know if there are any issues with that. And you can manage the business with it too.

Cool thanks, I will install it and report if any weird things happens.  The Maxis one is partially useless so I never install it, good to have a working version now.  ;D

Thank you! I have recently been using the Alienware one (don't usually) and when I have my sims (skillinator> creativity) they run to it and try and move out instead of writting a novel. Will install the new one and see if this behavior continues.

I didn't really change that much, just added options to it so if Pescado's hack has issues with the Maxis alienware then it might with this one too. I'll have to try and test it out when I get a chance and make sure there are no easels or pianos for them to run to.

I've been using this a little and noticed that the screens seem to flash blue during writing of a term paper.  It's nothing terribly bad, just something you might like to know about.  Thanks for this though Motoki, it's nice to have some more choices.

Hmm, I just tried it and it seems to be fine for me...give it another go, something might have hiccupped.

Title: Re: Alienware for OFB

It's working fine for me too.  If you open it from the site, rather than save, does it work?

Title: Re: Alienware for OFB
Post by: miramis on 2006 April 14, 17:05:17
There is one file called alienWareOFB.package, which is 781kb in size once it has been extracted from the zip file.  You are unzipping the downloaded file first right?  If you have an OS older than XP (like win98) you will need Winzip or some other unzipping program.

Does it work in this attachment?

I am having the same problem - I use ZipCentral and it says "This is not a valid Zip archive". I tried both Motoki's and BlueSoup's attachments, in both FireFox and IE. I tried downloading without unzipping first and 0 bytes transferred.

Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 April 14, 23:49:29
I don't know what the deal is.  It's too big to upload here as just a package, so here's the link to a non-zipped version (https://www.onlinefilefolder.com/index.php?action=getshare&type=0&user_num=27747&share_id=44467&hash=7b268d73713385b14a61247ed8b4eab5).

Thanks, BlueSoup! :) And thanks much for making this, Motoki! I was getting bored of the two in-game computers.

I'm also having the skillinator issue with this computer - clicking on it directly to write novel works fine, but it appears that it won't function correctly with skillinator...

I have the pre-BFBVFS version, has there been an update?  is this a motoki problem or a pescado problem?

Title: Re: Alienware for OFB
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 April 24, 10:53:39
THis is a problem with the computer interaction tables. For some reason, Maxis has the interaction tables for move out and write novel reversed in position on some computers but not others. It is very tricky.

The option which was most likely but I didn't even think of...  a maxis problem!

Someone on ModTheSims2.com made a copy of the low-end Maxis PC that is usable by visitors (useful for creating that cyber-cafe business), and that made me wonder if your modified Alienware PC was visitor-enabled. If it's not, do you think you could take a stab at making it visitor-enabled? (Maybe make it a separate object in case some people want to have one computer that can't be used by guests and one that can?)

Thanks in advance, and thanks for updating this with the Uni & OFB options!

Title: Flashing Blue Screen
Post by: dadditude on 2006 April 24, 20:14:08
I just noticed that, in my game at least, the screen of this computer does not show the proper images, but is instead just a blank flashing blue screen. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Title: Re: Alienware for OFB

I have not checked it in my game yet, but could there be a CEP-related issue perhaps?  Do you have the latest (4.1) version?

I thought I did, but I'll re-download just to make sure. I'll let you know if it helps.

Both Maxis-made computers flash blue in my game too, as well as this one. They all show the correct images if they have not been turned off in between uses, but if the computer was off beforehand the screen will flash blue.

Some people were having issues downloading the zip file. I am not really sure why as it works for me and some others, but Bluesoup reposted it non zipped as a package here (https://www.onlinefilefolder.com/index.php?action=getshare&type=0&user_num=27747&share_id=44467&hash=7b268d73713385b14a61247ed8b4eab5)

I get the flashing with the Maxis computers too so I think it's an OFB bug because I never got it prior to OFB.

@ Pes: so should I try reversing the move out and write novel tables or should I just not bother? heh

Actually, I deleted it, but seeing as people are still having problems, it's re-uploaded and available here (https://www.onlinefilefolder.com/index.php?action=getshare&type=0&user_num=27747&share_id=47166&hash=2a94a5bdeec250bcdb24ac6eaaeaae93).

Thank you Motoki.  I will be using this as the base (or just parts of it I understand correctly that only one color option appears) for the next version of my alienware computer mod.  If I do remember who gave me this when I get back home, I will give you a mention when I upload my new alienware hack to MTS2. (probably in my rather funny catalogue description as that is where I advertize all the technoligy my version of alienware uses).
