Or, you know, if EAxis tells us...not that we can trust them, of course.
Its quite apparent this is the final version. If it wasn't EA would be telling people that to save their ass. People are complaining about this version and if it wasn't the real version, they'd be telling people that so that people don't form a judgment. If they lied they'd be called on it.
So the fact that they haven't said anything means its the final version.

Well the awesome ones certainly flocked to that.

Do you not have notepad? You can just attach the error log as a notepad file, so the Awesome Ones can read the entire error log.

Here is the full error.

scratch that. First load under free time was fine, second load I got the error again.

Perhaps something got borked and thinks your sim is in the athletic career, thus erroring when they change into science clothes?
Again I fail to see why that would cause the exact same error on lots I've never loaded before, or how my sim would be changing clothes during the loading of the lot?

I've been thinking. When you uninstalled NL because of the wonky downtown screen, you didn't check your registry to make sure it had really uninstalled before you reinstalled. Maybe you only thought it was okay.  Wink Now why it would be throwing that error, I dunno, but you are having some other weird things happen- like when the baby couldn't be interacted with and then fixed itself.
The sims have always provided wonderful little random errors. its unlikely a registry entry could have messed this up (it just points to where the game is located and stores the cdkey and things like that) but if a file was corrupted and not deleted on uninstall or overwritten properly on reinstall that might have something to do with it. But that doesn't explain why that would only show itself after I played a lot for a few hours and then suddenly effect all lots.

I think is another case of trash code with clothes. Job clothes in this case. Try the old formula change-the-sim-clothes-change-it-back.

Why would it be my clothes? I have a science career, the error is clearly about the athletic career path and it happens on all lots.. even pre-made lots that I'd never been to before.

This occurs on all lots. This is a fresh install, all EPs and all SPs. Windows XP SP2. No custom content. the only additional content is Maxis made objects.
If I don't run boolprop testingcheatsenabled true, the loading just hangs.  I delete this each time I enter a lot, but it comes up each time.
There is more from the log, but I exceeded 20,000 characters.

Virtual Memory is not RAM.

You can set your virtual memory to be whatever you want. Usually you want to set it based on the ram you have (real memory) so you don't have manegement problems, but technically you could have 256meg ram and 30 gig virtual memory or 8 gig real ram and 0 virtual.

Try increasing your VM and cleaning the spyware/malware from your download laden computer. TS2 uses 1 gig of RAM. Whatever you have running in the background is most likely using up the rest.

Like I said above, my computer uses 58-60% of my ram when I play. Thats 1.2 gig. 1 gig the sims uses, the rest is azereus and an MP3 player.

Check your actual system wide usage next time. Start your computer fresh and play for an hour. Then bring up the task manager, goto the performance tab and have a look at the peak. Regardless of what incorrect number the task manager reports in the processes tab, the peak listed in the bottom left is the amount of ram usage your system has peaked at (including virtual memory usage). I've never seen anyone play TS2 and not have that number not be in the 1.3-1.5 GB range.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Linux? on: 2006 June 13, 16:37:59
I'm planning to put fedora core 5 on an xp machine as a dual boot system. Pity Linux doesn't play sims 2 yet. Apparently WINE will do sims 1. Does anyone know if there are plans anywhere to get sims 2 going under Linux?

Another Linux I've downloaded is puppy linux - boots off a USB stick, I thought that sounded like fun. Haven't tried that yet either.

They usually just work on api calls and if they do enough of them, certain games work. I know someone is working on doing directx for linux and once thats done its expected the game should run fine, but until then it won't run. I did get it to almost install (the eareg file causes a pain) but it had trouble reading one file off the DVD, I'm not sure if its my media or something else causing it.

Just how much total system memory TS2 will use isn't exactly clear
Its actually pretty clear.
Have a look at your peak.
restart your computer and examine your peak.
Play the game for an hour.
Examine your peak.
You should aim above that number for your amount of ram to avoid page file usage.
You've got a peak of 1.3 GB, I've seen most people peak between 1.3 and 1.6 GB, so I always recommend 2 GB if someone wants to get the most ram that will help.
I never thought to compare this after adding each EP to see if it significantly impacted the peak.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sweet Mother Gaia: RAM is Good... on: 2006 June 10, 00:24:39

So do I want to increase it or decrease it?  Am running a Dell Dimension 8400/Pentium 4, 3.20GHz, with one gig RAM (which I plan to update to 2 gig)
Virtual memory doesn't really improve performance all that much, as far as increasing it goes. TS2 generally peaks around 1.5 GB so if you have 1 GB of ram and 1.5 GB of virtual RAM, increasing it won't do anything. Adding another GB of ram however will reduce page file usage and improve your performance. I also have the 8400 with the x800GT and its served me quite well for gaming. Probably next year I'll have the cash to actually build from scratch on my own, but I've been very happy with the 8400. My page file usage dropped drastically, and typically sits around 250 mb.  With 2 GB you could likely set it to 0, and even though programs generally won't need to access it, some will complain if its at 0 though.

12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Linux? on: 2006 June 10, 00:11:12
I use Fedora Core 5 on my laptop, never had a problem with it. I also dual boot it on my desktop with Windows XP. I only run at 1024x768, so I haven't tried resolutions above that personally. When you install make sure to choose an appropriate monitor and then set the resolution (I've seen it support resolutions of at least 1600x1200 on the list)
If you need to just select generic LCD.
