Javachild: Get Sims2pack Clean Installer:

http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com

It will let you browse the contents of any lot download before you install it and uncheck any files you don't want. Unless the creator has specified they included some custom content with their lot like walls, floors or groundcover, the only file that should be in there is the actual lot's file. Generally, walls, floors and groundcover should be okay. Some people chose to include custom objects like furniture, those shouldn't be a big deal either.

But, if you see any hacks, careers etc then uncheck them. They shouldn't be there but can and do sneak in and in most cases the person who packaged up the house was quite unaware of this.
2927  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: mods that do and don't work on: 2005 September 17, 02:30:18
re: noinfluence hack.

That one never seemed to work right for me even before NL, I still always got those damned influence wants all the time.  Tongue

re: things stay here shrub

There's another way to keep all your furniture when you move out. You can do 'changelotzoning dorm', save, move the sims out into the family bin, then go into the lot and do changelotzoning residential'. Note that the sims then will NOT get the value of the furniture, but if you jot down the full value of the lot they were in before they moved out you can always kaching it back to them. It requires a little more steps than the shrub, but it works.

Also with NL you can put any furniture in you inventory. You could even stash all the furniture in the house in a sim's inventory before they move out, it will just be tedious as all hell to place them all one by one. Shocked

It hasn't happened again, but I just put Meroloa's Mind Control Mirror on every lot in Downtown.

Just as note, I've found the "selectable" option when you shift click on a sim while having 'boolprop testingcheatsenabled true' on actually does work now (it didn't with the original game or university), so you really don't need the mind control mirror or insimenator to make a sim selectable now.
2929  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 17, 02:18:24
Yes and no, the crash/soundloop/freeze seems to happen when around 4-6 or more money trees reload at the same time.   Motoki, about the lots where your money trees have crashed - did you have any trouble getting back into any of them?

Sorry I missed this before.

The answer is yes, the lot is hosed and I can't seem to ever get back into when I have a money tree crash. I end up having to move the family out.
2930  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 17, 02:14:14
With all due respect MB, I don't think all of can be expected to visit all of those sites and search for every single question ever asked. While I sympathize with Tom having sift through A LOT of stuff, much of it probably duplicate questions, I don't think it's very practical as some of us don't have the time, or have other reasons (drama, baggage, can't tolerate the inaneness etc) for not going to all those places.

Truth be told, there's so many bugs and things that otherwise drive me nuts about the game, but personally I'm not really going to post about anything unless I think it's really serious and no one seems to have mentioned it in places where I visit, which right now includes this place exclusively and I probably will keep it that way for the time being.

At any rate, I don't think all our posts are just for Maxis, sometimes some of us can help others out with problems by posting workarounds or giving advice.
2931  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's the best system to play TS2 and EP's on? on: 2005 September 16, 05:39:09
Yes and no. I think it will still help somewhat. And it should enable some features that may be currently greyed out and disabled like the cinemas.

To be honest, while your RAM seems fine to me, both your video card and cpu could really use updating imo. If I could only chose one I'd probably still go for a better video card. It'll let you run a higher resolutions and just generally make things look nicer and probably a bit faster, if not signifigantly so without a cpu upgrade.
2932  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A few nice features.... on: 2005 September 16, 05:30:46
I haven't tried parking one in front of the other, or one in the garage and one on the driveway, but somehow I doubt it will work

Actually it does work. The car behind that is blocked teleports. Wink

I've also noticed that the game doesn't seem to remember who has electronic stuff.  Most of my Sims are asking to buy them when they already have them.  It has also lost every single graduate Sim's diploma so far.

TwoJeffs has a buyable rewards collection at Variousimmers and MTS2 that lets you access and place a diploma. Whichever sim is selected when you go into the collection and place the diploma will be the owner of the diploma so you can get them all back this way. It's also handy when moving if you forget to grab it and put it back in your inventory.
2933  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A few nice features.... on: 2005 September 16, 02:53:57
Apparently as many as there are family members

And you have the room for Wink. Those driveways take up a lot of space and are oriented for the left side of the lot. In some cases I had to do major construction and demolition on a house to get one to fit.
2934  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A few nice features.... on: 2005 September 15, 23:59:28
2) When a Sim serves a group meal, you can click on the serving platter to call the whole family to eat.

Have you actually gotten that to work? When I tried, the guests just went about their business sitting in the hot tub or playing kicky bag etc.
2935  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: mods that do and don't work on: 2005 September 15, 23:46:42
Yes, payatbox is working fine for me.

Hmm, but how does payathebox handle other mail NL adds like letters and free dinner coupons?
2936  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: mods that do and don't work on: 2005 September 15, 23:44:04
I agree, the whole ask=romance thing is stupid. Since when is it romantic to ask someone what they are afraid of?

Though I suppose the primary use ask is for dating, I can see other uses for it. I mean, if you invite a sim over as a friend, you might want to say, ask them what their fears are to see if they are afraid of parties before you throw one etc.
2937  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Two stange things with my version of NL on: 2005 September 15, 22:44:42
Are you by any chance running the Less whiny hack? If so, yank it out as it causes poblems with sims losing their autonomy.
2938  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 22:42:32
re: Moving in service npcs

I always got the 1,000 from them. Mind you, I haven't tried since installing NL though.

re: half flower beds against diagonal walls

I've found if you turn on move objects and boolprop snapobjectstogrid false and move them just ever so slightly out a bit they work just fine and you really can't tell the difference to look at them. You can actually tell when you've moved it into a good spot because it goes from being darker and shaded (from the wall I presume) to lighter.
2939  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 21:10:12
Well not everyone seems to have the problem, but I've heard of others who have and if the problem is with the computer then all I can say is it never once happened for me before university ever and I've also never seen anyone else report having had the same problem prior to university. If it is a computer problem then university changed something which is conflicting with certain hardware setups, because it sure wasn't like that before.

I've pretty much given up the idea that it would ever get fixed because not everyone has the problem and it doesn't seem to be all that easily reproducible since we don't know what the common factor is for those of us having the problem.
2940  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Vampire Teeth Selectable in the body shop on: 2005 September 15, 21:06:59
Does the teeth alone just make them a vamp though? I thought they had to have a skin overlay and so forth. Oh well, I guess I can play around with it.
2941  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Vampire Teeth Selectable in the body shop on: 2005 September 15, 19:15:15
Are vamp teeth supposed to be selectable in the body shop? Because they are. Under glasses. It shows up with a plain head icon and you can't tell what they are in the body shop but when I tried exporting them the files all said they were vampire teeth.

Since you can't select them in the CAS and AFAIK a sim is not supposed to have them unless they are a vampire, I'm assuming it's a bug and not by design, but I'm really not sure.
2942  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 19:00:50
just out of curiosity do you place all the money trees at the same time?

I believe so yes, however I had been doing this since the game came out, some houses had whole farms of them I placed all at the same time, and never had this problem until University.
2943  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 18:56:03
About that: there is a custom package, i don't know who made it, but the package filename is Live.package, wich add hundreds of real names to your game. i think i downloaded it at MTS2

It's actually made by Jordi and is at Variousimmers (unless he posted it at MTS2 as well)

http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/showthread.php?t=1593

And you want to make sure that it's in your downloads directory before you install NL if you can help it. I had it in there and the new sims downtown thankfully have more normal names and aren't all Blazej, Komei, Aberjeet etc.
2944  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 15, 18:46:30
LOL I did that too at first, I didn't see the serial on the back and CD case and paniced at first, but I guess since the box is the case they couldn't very well put it on the box.
2945  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 15, 17:30:38
I've had the money tree issue as well since University. When I use multiple ones and they all regenerate at the same time, the sound skips and loops and crashes the game. It doesn't do this when using only one money tree, only when you have more than one.

Because of this I've pretty much given up on them and use the money machine now instead.
2946  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 15, 14:56:19
after you enabled the custom content, did you restart the game?

LOL I made that dumb mistake too of selecting enable custom content and not reading the fine print that you have to restart.  Embarrassed

I question if that was really the best way to handle it or if a popup box prior to load so they you don't have to reload would have been better. Just imagine how many people on the BBS are going to freak out about this because they didn't read you have to restart. Wink
2947  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 15, 14:47:05
I've never known them to hurt the game, but they don't seem to really do anything either. I'm not exactly sure what causes them, but if you open them with a text editor there's literally almost nothing in them so they don't seem to contain any content. I always just remove them and have never had any problems in doing so.
2948  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 15, 14:38:47
If you've been downloading lots, it's quite possible an old career could have snuck back as a stowaway in the lot's sims2pack file, won't hurt to check with clean installer. The J.M. Hacks that show up as "careers" are pretty obvious by the names, but if you have Nightlife, you may just want to yank out all your hacks too until we figure out what works and what doesn't.  Undecided

If you want to rule out anything hardware related like your video card etc, you can drag your downloads folder to the desktop and temporarily move it there, run the game, try loading a lot but don't save, just exit without saving if it loads. If the lot does load that way, then it's not your computer or any hardware but definitely something in the downloads folder.
2949  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 15, 14:24:01
I've just noticed something.  I got my Nightlife a few minutes ago and noticed that it said 12+ on the box.  I checked my Uni box, the same.  Yet the base game is 7+.  Now, is that because the expansions are 'naughtier', or because we've suddenly been subjected to US censorship laws over here?

Probably the latter  Tongue Having played it for a bit, I fail to see how anything in it is any worse than anything in the original game or university.
2950  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 15, 14:17:10
Kala: That's probably not hardware related. I know there was a bug with custom careers created prior to university where they would cause a lot to stick on the loading screen forever. Newer created or updated careers should fix this, but you may have some lingering older ones. You can also have careers and other custom content you didn't explicitly download because they can sneak in through house downloads.

If you don't already have it, get Sims2pack Clean Installer http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com

Browse your download directory with it, and if you have a lot of stuff it can take a while to load them all. Sort by type and then remove any careers.

Note that due to Sims2pack Clean Installer improperly identifying some files, certain of JM's hacks like Autoyak phone, Skillinator, Macrotastics etc may show up as careers but they are in fact not and do not cause the lot loading problem. I've notified Phervers (the creator of the program) numerous times about this and he still hasn't bothered to fix it so I give up and we'll just have to ignore it.
