51  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Multi Polli-Tech Tutorial on: 2009 April 05, 01:36:40
Would that have been simgaroop's tutorial?  A lot of her material was deleted off her LJ, but it's over here.

My Pleasantview was heavily played and fully operational for over two years.  I think most people would find that sufficient for their purposes.

53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: You want to fall in love - again? on: 2009 March 28, 08:20:08
Do you think it's related to sims who are already vampires wanting to become vampires?  Is there any chance your Sim thinks your Sim is dead?  Otherwise it looks like plain old want panel borkage to me.  I'd just get them to re-roll and have done with it.
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom? on: 2009 March 10, 00:25:24
That is peculiar, as I only attempted to make her selectable once for photo reasons.  I noticed that she did not seem to have many of the ordinary options normal Sims do.  Common sense kicked in and I deselected her and fooled with her no more.

If for some reason, you simply can't resist playing with Crumplebottom, Grim, the Social Bunny et. al., there are extracted normal Sim versions available on the Exchange and elsewhere.  They don't exhibit their specialist NPC coding, but that is a small price to pay.  I put them all in an Asylum and had a splendid time watching my neighborhood not blow up.
55  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Party Timer missing on: 2009 February 27, 18:37:40
This happened to me, too.  I think it had something to do with having a Toga Party, a date, and a Secret Society abduction running all at the same time.  A sim was blocking one of my other sim's path out of the house during his abduction, and something got stuck, so his abduction was "in progress" and it screwed with all the timers.

I don't remember a hack conflict or unupdated Awesomeware.  I deleted the affected sim and saved and exited, and then did not throw any parties or run any dates until he was properly abducted.  Once that happened, everything was ok again.

56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack Requests? I'd Like a Newspaper Fix... on: 2009 February 24, 18:47:40
The only thing I've noticed with old papers is that the Garden Club members regard it as trash--only a problem if you're trying to get a Wishing Well--and if you have some sitting around, the paperboy/girl stops delivering them.  My maids clean them up; a lot of the time my neat Sims have already cleaned them up on free will.  I find the coffee cup behavior much more annoying (and there is a hack for that) and the dropping of Thinking Caps on the kitchen counter.
57  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Elder dies and goes to college (BFB incoming?) on: 2009 February 24, 18:24:23
I don't have Sim PE; I can only do minor fixes using InSim.  Some of this comes from moving, I'm sure of it.  Aubrey, my Sim who aged down to YA, moved from one house to another and got the known glitch of a second memory of graduation.  Why he later bounced down to YA, I don't know, but I do know that when you age Sims forward with InSim, it seems to change their Aspiration to Family.  I fixed this and fixed his permaplat status, although he went permaplat in college and has the token.  Since he had "just graduated," he was also unemployed, which was awkward, because he is the manager of one of the family businesses.  Fired him, re-hired him, made him manager.

DG didn't have any of these problems. All that happened to him was that he got reset to his last birthday and the Grow Up Memory.  He too was unemployed, but he might have been before.  He was the same Aspiration as before (Popularity.)  I fixed his permaplat status, just in case, though he too went permaplat and has the token in his memory.

Both their marriages appear to be intact, with no relationship damage.

The last backup before DG ages unnecessarily is 12/31.  That is when I bought a new Mac and transferred my files from one running Tiger to one running Leopard.  I had noticed that many of my Sims "reset," as though I had just installed a new EP; motives reset, standing beside their beds or whatever.  DG is the only one whose age reset too.  As for Aubrey, the one whose age went down to YA--who knows what his deal is.

I am going to keep using the hood.  It might or might now be on the path to destruction, but I only have to get through one more generation and my legacy will be done.

58  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Elder dies and goes to college (BFB incoming?) on: 2009 February 24, 05:13:21
I don't have an answer, but I would be interested to know, as I had a similar glitch recently.  The sim went from adult to YA, not elder to YA, but close.  I had another who seems to have just graduated college, even though he has been out for a while.  I am crossing my fingers, but I am also backing up like crazy, trying to figure out when the last unglitched backup is, and making careful notes of the whole neighborhood.  Because while I try to be optimistic, I am prepared for the idea that it is going to blow.

(I had no bug messages either, and no error logs.)
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Removing non-default skins - how bad is it? on: 2009 February 18, 00:00:40
When you say "internal data messed up," how badly do you mean, and will it make a difference if you *can't* fix it with SimPE?

I've only removed one custom skin, and I can't say I'm sorry.  The mother was a Marilyn Monroe sim, and I never once thought about changing her to male and back to see what happened.  The male version of the skin was EW.  Lots of badly-drawn body hair and EW.  I could not stand to see that bred in over and over.  I took the skin out last July and no big problems so far.  (And he looks WAY better as an S2.)

Otherwise, with custom skins and hair, I just check it first, or learn to live with it.  I'd edit it, but I can't (see above.)

You really oughta google.  There aren't that many mac users here to be able to get a good idea of what could happen.

Generally, you can let your windows partition be riddled to hell with suckrom, and it won't affect OS X.  Unless suckrom burns out your media drive, that is.  There are some hardware failures attributed to it on windows-only platforms, but I don't know of any on bootcamp partitions with windows.

I strongly suggest you just use no-CD cracks from the beginning to avoid the butthurt.  If you haven't the faintest what I'm talking about, I suggest even more strongly that you stop yourself from asking about cracks and suckrom.  There's a sticky in Podium where you can edumacate yourself.

There may be a sticky in the Podium about cracks and Securom, yes, and yes, it is advisable to read it, but I don't see any problem with Mac players asking about Mac-related problems.  In fact, I'm going to go so far as to say that is bullshit, because in fact there are things about playing on Macs that only another Mac player would know, and there are some of us on this board, and some of us aren't as snotty about it as you are.

Tikkititi, as far as I know, there aren't any Securom-related issues on Macs.  What it comes down to is how attached you are to your media drive and how much you would care if it fried.  The windows partition may be the only bit that's affected, but replacing media drives on a Mac is a real bitch, even if it's under warranty.  And a lot of the time, if I have a Mac related issue, I go to the Mac section on the BBS.  It's the only section I ever read.  Yes, the BBS is the BBS and it is full of a lot of 12s asking about how they can get TWINS!!111!!!, but the Mac section sometimes does have helpful info for people who play on Macs, or a windows partition on a Mac.  And at least there you are not as likely to run into bullshit religious fervor about running the frickin' game on a Windoze partition using a no-CD crack, which has issues of its own. (See above.)
61  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Why don't CC wedding cakes work? on: 2009 February 11, 08:15:49
I'm not asking anyone to make one.  I'm just wondering why it seems to be so difficult.  I've seen custom birthday cakes that worked, but never a custom wedding cake. Even the Sims Store wedding cakes someone nicely extracted and put up don't seem to work, and I know I'm not the only person who has seen this.  You can put them down, and they will look pretty, but go to cut them and the Sims will jump out of the action. It's been a while since I tried the Pronupsims cakes, but I'm not even sure you can "Clean Up" those.  I think you just have to delete them.

I was curious about why the coding for wedding cakes seems to be so impossible.  I'm assuming it is, because otherwise someone would have made one by now.

63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Some Basic questions on: 2008 December 22, 03:07:59
Huh.  I've never noticed that Bust A Move requires level 8 dancing.  I thought it was closer to level 3.  Level 8 is enough to get the Tsang Footwork award, and very few of my sims earn that, but I usually make my Pleasure, Pop, and Romance Sims dance until they can Bust A Move.
64  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Please help. on: 2008 December 22, 03:03:08
It does appear in the BV directory, though, doesn't it? Good point, though.  That's why I always download the hacks for the EP I have, carefully noting the date and sometimes pulling over all of them. If something suddenly *isn't* there, I know to check the boards and try to find out why.

Novelprogress still works fine in BV.

It's helpful to note, though, that sometimes "obsolete" hacks are still necessary for Macs.  If Pescado's made them obsolete, then yes, they're obsolete, but if an EAxis patch has made them obsolete, the hack might still be needed.
65  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Please help. on: 2008 December 21, 23:46:49
There is a WCIF thread here.  It's stickied at the top of the forum.

I have had novelprogress for a long time, and I am almost positive it cannot be what's causing the jump bug.

I'm pretty sure WriteNovelsFaster is a Squinge hack. If it was updated, it would probably be on InSim.

66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: LTW = 5 Top Level Businesses FAIL on: 2008 December 14, 02:35:48
This is, in fact, a classic exploit, aka the "cheaty" way to do this. It is how I fulfilled the LTW a second time after my Legacy family had already done it.

It is still a pain when it's done with a Fortune Sim, as they are usually rolling the Fear of Losing A Star or Business Drops a Level.  The very few times I've seen an aspiration failure included two of these.  So I'm not sure if it's really "cheating," since you have to risk that.

In any case, yes, you can nuke it with the Lot Debugger.

It's just the Ottomas family, as far as I know.  The issue was fixed with the Seasons patch (supposedly) but I played it safe and terminated her pregnancy, just in case.  I don't play them, anyway--they are only placeholders.
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make friends with 5 service NPCs. Which ones count? on: 2008 December 09, 14:47:32
I'm confused about the Social Worker, though.  I've taken no chances--I have one as a character in my Legacy 'hood, but she is really a normal Sim created in CAS with the unlocked SoWo outfit.  But I've certainly heard of people marrying her in with no ill effects, and that she is a sim with ordinary wants, etc.  What is the problem with the Social Worker?
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make friends with 5 service NPCs. Which ones count? on: 2008 December 09, 06:45:09
Any NPC in the "NPC" family counts. NPCs not in the NPC family do not. Moving in nameless NPCs will negatively affect your game. Moving in non-base game NPCs may have odd side effects.

So, what is included in the "NPC family"? And what are "nameless" NPCs?

I'm guessing that nameless NPCs are the ones who don't have a real name.  When you have the Head For Numbers OFB perk, every sim in the game will pop up, including ones named Ninja, Repo Man, Driver, Unsavory Charlatan. . . I don't touch those.  Professors, Mascots, etc., have randomly assigned names, like Allyn Gilscarbo.
70  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Edited nhood ancient henge. More henge than you can handle! on: 2008 December 01, 19:17:05
I think the henge does attract the UFO.  I never saw one until I added the henge, and now it goes straight for the henge.

Does your new henge have regular turf that alters with the Seasons?  It's kind of annoying to have a neighborhood blanketed with snow, except for a bright green fresh henge.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to see a ghost? on: 2008 November 28, 23:06:32
is there a fix at all for ghosts tombstones disappearing after they've haunted them and made them levitate? that's always so annoying.

Are they Romance Sim urnstones?  It can't hurt to have nocorruptdeath, nounlinkondelete, and romanceurnstonefix.  If you've already got those, I don't know why your tombstones are disappearing.  Mine turn around during/after a haunting, but they don't disappear.

It looks as thought TwoJeffs has a Ghost hack on Simbology that changes ghost behavior, and might contain a fix for your disappearing tombstones.  I don't have it in, because I don't care how much of a PITA my ghosts are.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to see a ghost? on: 2008 November 28, 19:43:10
I have sixteen ghosts on the Legacy lot I play.  All but three died permaplat of old age.  Niceness or relative happiness doesn't seem to matter much. I always have three ghosts a night out.

It's pure Murphy's law.  Ghosts always head right for the kids or Pop Sims who really don't want to see them and ignore your Knowledge Sims.  Knowledge Sims roll the want to see ghosts they haven't seen already.  That ghost won't show up forever, and when it does, it will refuse to scare your Sim.

Having the Sim chase the ghost around doesn't always work.  Ghosts usually float around until they re-enact their own deaths (or visit their favorite bathtub or bed, whatever).  Then they *might* turn around and scare the closest Sim, but mine often blink and teleport to wherever they want to frighten someone.  Sometimes it helps to have your Sim skilling away, painting a picture or working at a craft bench, because ghosts seem to love to interrupt them, but even that doesn't always work.  The ghost might well blink over to a sleeping Sim, who will dutifully wake up and get out of bed to be scared.

There may be a mod that enables you to control ghost behavior, but if so, I don't know what it is.
73  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Store Stuff on: 2008 November 22, 01:56:44
Is there any chance you could also do the deco & cubic desk chairs? And the spooky set? (Only the small gargoyle, streetlight, and wall light show up for me.) Please please please?

Snoopy, the items you mention do not currently work for Macs.  As I understand it, they need resources from one of the EPs we don't have yet in order to work properly.  The Castle bed and treasure chest are the same way, which is why seelindarun didn't include those objects when he/she changed the object flags for this most recent set.

Grania, do you mind mentioning which objects do work for people who have Macs with all EPs and SPs?  Trying to keep track of this gives me a huge headache.

EDIT:  Sorry, I saw your earlier post, but it still does give me a giant headache.  I'll try things a bit at a time.

Lo, how I hate the Sims store.

75  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Nasty glitch on: 2008 October 05, 02:01:25
This doesn't make sense to me.  I have a Mac, and I've certainly done a Force Error in Debug mode (and produced an error log.)  I'll be interested to see what results come up.

The only thing that does not quite seem to work is re-rolling wants.  Whether I use something spawned in Debug (the Sim Modder?) or the Lot Debugger, re-rolling wants only results in the exact same wants being re-rolled.  Otherwise, everything works fine, as far as I know.

If Debug Mode did not work, one would not be able to shift-click on a sim, mailbox, etc., and have the usual options come up, yes?  Then this seems incorrect, because as I said, I have certainly done it in the past.
