26  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 11, 05:13:47
It's working now, except for the fact that Sims won't get dry clothes hanging in the clothing line.
Does the "Clean House" (or whatever it is in Portuguese) interaction appear when there's nothing "cleanable" on the lot but clean clothes on a clothesline or in a dryer? Do neat sims handle that on their clean house interaction?
Quote
And yes, my game is full Portuguese speaking.
Actually, I meant the CleanHouseForEveryone mod. But since you're probably not noticing that it's a different thing than the thing neat sims can do (like intended), I just assume that this mod is indeed fully localized.
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 10, 15:39:26

Updated Inform About Deaths to show the cause of death.

Sorry to ask, but what is "fully localized"?
The whole thing is completely in Portuguese for you, right? Well, except that debugging notification, that never was supposed to be witnessed by anyone but me.

I'm wondering though, how hard would it be to put the cause of death into the death notifications?
Not hard at all. I have yet to see a sim die from something else than old age, though.
28  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 08, 14:27:58
Yes, there was laundry to do and also plates to clean and water to sweep. Sorry, my game is in Portuguese, I don't know if these terms are correct for the game in English.
The mod handles dirty plates and puddles and AFAIK everything that can get dirty from the base game without problems. What's funny (or not) is that the EAxis clean house interaction didn't actually change. I'm not too surprised, though. For whatever reasons I had a hard time getting the initial code to make beds, too. In the end, I had to bypass that part manually. That's what I did for clothes now, too. Give the Experimental Version 2 a spin, and tell me if it does the trick. Obviously, without having Ambitions I had to take an educated guess on how this stuff is working. I have no idea what will happen, if there are no washing machines for dry clothes or clotheslines/dryers for wet clothes on the lot.

Is this mod fully localized for you BTW?
29  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 07, 21:03:45
Sorry, I think that was too early Wink
Well, at least it's a different problem now.

I was playing the roomates in Twinbrook yesterday. Both are slob. When I click on the floor to clean house this message come up: "Clean House - FindNearestObjectToClean()returned null.
I tried again after remove the trait "slob" but the same happened.
I'm not sure this is related to your mod.
It is. It's one of the debugging messages I didn't bother to comment out, since it's not supposed to come up. Ever. Unfortunately I don't have Ambitions, otherwise you could upload your savegame and I could actually see what is going wrong. This might become difficult. Do you know what on the lot was cleanable at that time? Oh, wait, there can be piles of dirty clothes now, right? Are there other new cleanable things, now?
30  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? on: 2010 June 06, 18:47:51
Elders just don't technically age at all. The bar goes up because after a set amount of time, they'll die, but before that, they have a random chance of just dropping dead each day.
That is wrong. Elders age just the same as every other sim. They have a certain minimum lifespan and once that is reached they have a certain daily chance to drop dead. And dropping dead is totally a function of aging. It's getting handled in the DayPassedCallback() in the AgingManager class.
31  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The Aging Manager on: 2010 June 06, 06:17:41
Threw it in the Mods folder and loaded up, got the annoying EA script mod notification that it's in there but have no menu trees for it on any mirror or on the lot. Running purely Ambitions vanilla otherwise.
The interactions get only added to the Hi-Def-Mirrors. If they don't show up on the Hi-Def-Mirror see if other scripting mods work. There isn't really anything I can do about that from here, though, since it obviously works here or I wouldn't have released that thing in the first place.

I will add the version headers to the mods in the future, so they don't provoke the nag screen anymore. Problem with that is, that I can't test if it works, since the nag screen doesn't show up for my mods here.
32  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: EA Data Logging - Ambitions & Patch on: 2010 June 05, 18:36:08
Are you taking the position that, because EA has already fucked over some of its users, it's okay if it goes ahead and fucks over the rest too?
You just don't get it, do you? When a user allows his game behavior getting logged, they already have all the most confidential data from this specific user they can get. For the users they already fuck, the optional data logging doesn't make the matter any more serious. For the users who don't let themselves getting fucked, it's no concern anyway.
33  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: EA Data Logging - Ambitions & Patch on: 2010 June 05, 15:57:25
Are you trying to ask an obvious question here? It matters because player information being collected in a less-than-forthcoming manner.
So if a guy beats you down and rapes you, can things really get worse if he asks you to take a peek in your wallet afterwards?

If this were true, the game would be so much better than it is.
Judging by the sims forums out there, TS3 is precisely what the majority of players want.
Quote
If they REALLY want to know about peoples playing habits to better tailor the game, all they would have to do is run an on-line survey asking people what they want.
Surveys are nowhere as conclusive as a code-generated analysis. That is a fact.
34  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Deleting the Awesome Mod?! on: 2010 June 05, 15:45:31
Yeah, that's the new bitch-and-whine screen. It will ALWAYS say that, which is a liecake, even when using the prototype test. I am looking into how to banish that.
With the patch the script resources got an additional 2 byte key, which stores the version number as it seems. It wouldn't suprise me, if that version number is actually everything that gets checked before the bitching and whining begins.
35  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The Birth Control Mirror on: 2010 June 05, 15:29:57

Updated to version 10.1.
Please update. There's a bug in V10 which prevents to load worlds after loading a world once (applies to WA destinations, too).

BTW: This bug is present in the obsolete version 9.1, too. I won't debug that version, though, because I don't want to and the code doesn't even exist anymore.

Same Energy Gain For Every Bed updated to version 1.1
Please update. There's a bug in V1 which prevents to load worlds after loading a world once (applies to WA destinations, too).
37  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 05, 07:21:37
Maybe it will need more testing but every mod in my folder works fine, except for these two: "Same energy for every bed" and "Clean House for Everyone". When I send Sims to Shang Simla there is an ever loading screen.
Yes, I just spotted this myself. With my mods in the game, the game will load a world once and then stall the next time. I'm trying to provoke this bug with a debugging package as we speak but thus far I've been unsuccessful. Do you use other mods from me which don't cause this by any chance?

Sorry about that. I hardly ever reload. I just load a game test-play a mod, quit the game, change the mod and load again. That's why I never spotted this before. Impossible to tell how long it's been that way.
38  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: EA Data Logging - Ambitions & Patch on: 2010 June 03, 18:21:17
I think the issue is more why they are doing it, and what, exactly, it is they're collecting.
How does that matter? Everything they can collect at that point is harmless in comparison to what they're already collecting. I see no alternative to analyzing the player's behaviour and feature usage to better tailor the product to the player. I think this is kind of a naive approach, though. Of course you have to give the players what they expect, but that alone will never satisfy them.
39  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 June 03, 18:11:01

Same Energy Gain For Every Bed Uploaded.
Yes, I know. You've seen plenty of these things. But these are XML mods and will fail every time a bed brings his own tuning XML. This mod will affect every single object of the bed type, no matter where it's coming from. And it will stay functional as long as the bed class itself doesn't get changed by EA. Use the SetBedEnergy cheat to configure it. The default is 1.36.

BTW: Remember to use the point as decimal separator not the comma. I tried to parse the input to identify both as decimal separator. I think I lost a couple braincells until I figured out that it's futile because - for reasons I cannot comprehend - the parameters get passed pre-parsed by the EAxian code with everything beginning with a comma being thrown away.

Concerning the marriage notifier
It's been a while since I saw a 'hood being ruled purely by EAxian Storymode, and what I saw was kind of eyebrow-elevating. It seems that whenever this abomination generates a new homeless family, it pukes multiple marriage events over the place with increasing borkedness. It even dares to throw marriage events for sims who don't even have a partner. So... I could stuff the code with sanity checks to try to distinguish the events that make sense from the ones that don't. However, I don't really see the point. And I don't really feel like making sense of something that doesn't make sense to begin with. So I have decided to leave it as it is for now. Thanks for your cooperation.
40  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What in the world is it about the game that makes it so badly optimized? on: 2010 June 02, 17:07:13
EA read this topic and added stuff to the patch at the last minute, because Ambitions fixes half of these issues. I can zoom around town at 3X speed without any lag- I dont think the game tries to load lots unless you are for sure on them now.
I've noticed no difference. Maybe the game is more resilient regarding bad CC now and one of your packages is corrupt.
41  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sending a sim to the NPC Household? on: 2010 June 02, 17:02:06
However, that only made her un-selectable.  Is it possible to kick her ass back into the NPC Household and have her resume her role as a maid?
She probably already belongs to the NPC household, but isn't assigned to any particular service. I don't know of a way to add a sim to a service. That is, a way that's available right now. I'll look into it. It's probably easy to do with a scripting mod.
42  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What in the world is it about the game that makes it so badly optimized? on: 2010 June 02, 15:32:48
1. Unlike Sims, things in shooters are pretty much entirely static. Every single texture and object has already been pre-rendered before the game shipped. Because the world is mostly static, lighting and other fancy things can be precomputed during level creation.
No, shooters are just as realtime-rendered as TS3. For modern shooters dynamic lights and shadows are on an entirely different level in comparison to TS3.

A big difference is that objects get recycled to a great extent. There are only so much trees, so much shrubs etc. and placing one object a dozen times is less demanding than placing a dozen objects once.

Quote
3. Unlike the Sims, the number of objects the camera can see in a shooter is typically fairly small. Your field of view is typically maybe about a 90-degree cone centered around the player character's head. This is rather unbig, really.
In shooters the reach of vision is greater and the LOD boundaries a farther apart. There's no big difference in the end. At least not in favor of TS3.

ETA: What about putting games on a SSD?  Would that improve performance over a regular HDD?
Probably.
43  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: EA Data Logging - Ambitions & Patch on: 2010 June 02, 15:19:00
Seems like the typical MATY user isn't a bit more informed than the users of the sheeple forums. The typical MATY user is more adept in spreading FUD, though.

EA and basically every publisher out there are spying on you for years now without asking for permission. Virtually every game executable will collect data and send it home. If you let it. If you let the TS3 executable or the launcher connect to the internet, the EA folks almost definitely already know if you use an arred game by the serial. They probably know if you use arred store content, too.

Logging your gameplay and asking for permission to do so is absolutely harmless. All they want to know, is what features are used the most/least for future development.
44  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Ambitions and SURPRISE! - CTDs on: 2010 June 02, 15:02:24

The DEP trick did nothing for me. Tweaking the Ambition executable to use 4GB on my Vista x64 system seems to have cured the crashes, but the freezes remain. For example, with my sim just sitting in the library reading a skill book, approx every 5 seconds the game freezes for 3 or 4 seconds.
This is an old issue. There's probably a sim somewhere causing this. Resetsim would help, but there's no way to know which one it is. Once AM is updated, try resetworld. It worked for me.

46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The Aging Manager on: 2010 June 02, 14:46:42

Updated to version 9.
You'll need to update the Aging Manager to version 9 to use it with game version 1.12/2.7/3.3/4.0. Also Aging Manager version 9 is not backwards compatible with older game versions.
47  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The Birth Control Mirror on: 2010 June 02, 14:41:20

Updated to version 10. See first post for details.
You'll need to update BCM to version 10 to use it with game version 1.12/2.7/3.3/4.0. Also BCM version 10 is not backwards compatible with older game versions.
48  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: The Birth Control Mirror on: 2010 May 31, 18:27:13
I did as you recommended and now it is working as intended.  I'm usually meticulous about deleting the scriptCache every time I install a new mod.  Perhaps I failed this time.
Similar things happened here, too. To a lesser degree, though. Sometimes the object from the new version seems to get "disturbed" by the object of the old version (which gets saved with the savegame), despite the script cache being deleted. Seems to happen, when there are only minor signature changes, i.e. too minor for the framework to treat the mod as an entirely different object.
49  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 May 30, 20:29:51
Is "RegenerateBooks" still the right way to restock books in the library? The bookshelves in the library of my current testing 'hood got eaten by ... something. I placed new bookshelves and used the regeneratebooks cheat, but it didn't do anything. There's probably something borked, but what?

I noticed that I can click on pregnant sims in labor who are total strangers to my active sim and escort them to the hospital. Is this supposed to be possible or is it a failing interaction test?

Is "TowDerelicts" supposed to destroy stuck bikes too?
50  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Various Mods aka Random Crap (was: Event Notifiers) on: 2010 May 30, 14:57:29

Inform About Deaths updated to V2.1.
There was a bug in there, which could cause the same notification to be shown over and over agin. Plus I tweaked it so the "Reference Lost" messages shouldn't come up again. They were never supposed to be witnessed in the first place, and of course they didn't show up while testing.
