2001  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Sim stuck at Secret Society - can't get home on: 2007 July 30, 14:37:40
I've searched the forums (fora?  forae?) for a sign that someone else had this problem, and, while there are some similar issues noted previously, they don't seem to specifically address the problem that I am experiencing.  Problem is this:

When my Sim gets abducted and gets to the SS (La Tour Academie attached to a custom hood), he wanders around the place aimlessly for a bit, but can't get home.  No phone interaction allowed to call the limo from the SS to "go home" (the only phone interaction permitted is the phone hack "number of rings" option).  In the end, I exited back to the main uni hood without saving.  Back at the dorm, the limo pulled up (odd?) and he got out, but was not recognized by the game as being a SS member (no option to "call-go to SS").

Additionally, the whole time he was on the SS lot, he stayed in street clothes (no SS jacket offered).  When he got out of the limo at the SS lot, after being abducted, he stood on the street for a bit, and then just walked in (still in street clothes).  At one point, I hit "buy mode" to see if I could get him a jacket out of a wardrobe, and the game returned an error (was in debug mode at the time), and started generating SS members including most of the dormies in the uni.  I think there were about 20 dormies on the lot by the time I exited without saving.

Once back at the dorm, I used Insim's education adjuster to make him an SS member, and then had him "call-go to SS".  He got the limo fine, and went off to the SS, but when he showed up, he still had no SS jacket (not really familiar with SS abductions/inductions - how do they normally get the jacket?).  This time he could call for the limo to go home, and it arrived, but in transit the game hung (black screen) refusing to reload the dorm.

I have only awesome hacks, including the "no SS respawn", "no dormie spawn", final exam fix, and much of the rest of the director's cut for UNI loaded.  Additionally, I have Jenflower's woohoo teens and Insim.  I'm also running with all cut scenes/animations turned off (cos I get bored with them).

Anyone else noted this problem, or know of any conflicts with hacks/mods?  I'm thinking that it might be a computer memory problem (the game had slowed the 'puter down a bit, which is odd, since the bloody thing has more memory than I do, has never had graphics card problems, and has a late P4 3Gig processor).

I also recall that the abduction happened just as the Sim was supposed to run off to his final exam - he got the 1 hour warning as he was stepping out of the limo), which may have caused an internal game problem (but what do I know?).

I finally used Insim to remove him from the SS again, and will hopefully be able to recreate the scenario this evening (hope to get a new abduction), and see if it works better.  If not, hopefully I'll get an error log that can shed light on this.  The rest of the uni and hood work fine (as they should, being relatively new and built clean).

Any advice, speculation, or humorous commentary welcome.
2002  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Two questions: Chess table, Invisible sims (error log attached) on: 2007 July 27, 15:22:04
I don't have Uni, so I don't have the non-playables residing onsite.  I don't like abandoning the house but the lot is getting close to unplayable. The lag may not even have anything to do with the 'goodbye' thing, but it's just getting out of hand.  It's doubly annoying because I've got larger lots with larger families in the same hood that play much faster than this one.

You might try moving the family out of the house and back to the family bin.  This would remove all their stuff from the house, admittedly, but it might just remove anything that's screwing up the lot at the moment too.  Then try moving the family back in to the vacant lot (very tedious since you'd have to buy all their furniture etc. again, and probably the kitchen counters, fridge, stove..., but if you like the lot and it works, it's no more work than moving the family into a new house.

2003  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Two questions: Chess table, Invisible sims (error log attached) on: 2007 July 26, 20:08:20
Why am I getting an option to Say Goodbye to Everyone when there is only one (visible) visitor on the lot?

No phone or computer usage at the time. Other sims were queued for going to bed. Since this one lot has gotten so laggy as well, I'm thinking the lot is bugged. It's a nuisance to abandon the house but I think this family needs a new lot.

The "invisible visitor" thing happens to me in dorms - i.e. if a playable invites a non-resident dormie to the dorm, if I want to say goodbye, rather than have the visitor hang about, I get a say goodbye to everyone option, even if there is nobody else visiting.  I've ignored it so far and nothing bad happens.  It may be a result of having a bunch of non-playables that reside onsite, and not an invisible sim at all.  If the lot remains playable, I would not rush to get rid of it (unless you really want to, of course).  I have deleted lots when the resident playables stopped functioning while onsite.

I am more worried about the option I get to "invite over" a sim who lives in the lot - my sims keep getting wants to invite their spouse or child over to the house, when all that needs to happen is for them to get home from work/school.  Very odd.  Again, this does not (so far) seem to cause problems.  Anybody else seen this?
2004  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Death by Flies, the Biotech station and sickness. on: 2007 July 25, 14:22:59
I recently had two sims get colds/flu or something on their wedding day.  I let them go to their honeymoon and do the "wedding night" thing anyway (they both had the cold anyhow) and it got worse.  The female sim woke up the next morning and coughed and hacked for several sim minutes, until I got alarmed.  I put them both to bed for a while and then had them do nice relaxing things until the "all clear" was indicated.

All this to say that sickness seems to be working reasonably well in my game, and I have more than the base game installed (although not all EPs).

As for death by flies, I've managed it by ensuring that there is no way for the sim to autonomously clean dishes (and naturally no maid).  Once dirt piles up for a while, the flies appeared and ate the offending sim.  I only tried this once, so I'm not sure if it works consistently, or if I just had luck on my side (odd sort of luck).
2005  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 24, 14:26:18
Yay! Gen 11 of my Alphabet family, and I've finally bred the pinnochio nose that I accidentally married in first generation out of the male line.

Such patience!  Very admirable.  I had a pinocchio nose combined with weak chin in my first hood.  This went on through gen 4 and actually got worse.  Satellites fell from heaven and destroyed the family utterly, causing massive emotional stress for the last playable standing in that family (he had married in).  Shortly after this the hood went foooom, but I felt sorry enough for the Sim that I cloned him and put the clone in my new hood so he could have a better chance at a happy life.

Now that I'm a bit wiser, I am less cavalier about my destructive techniques and may just try to exercise patience to let Sim genetics take their course.  If I get "British royalty" again, I may just live with it.

Yeah, they can.  But it's nice to see someone come in and ask a legit question.  No demands, no threats, no smarmy shit like they already know what the answer would be.   Though his avatar is making my eyes bleed  Cheesy

Quite so.  A legit question with a decent posting style builds the collective mind and the solutions found tend to help not only the OP, but chaps like me as well who have not yet seen all the interesting problems.  I would not poke at the OP in this case, especially since I have benefitted several times myself from answers to questions.

Thanks for the help, this site sure does live up to it's reputation.  Grin

This is a good thing, yes? Wink

Oh yes, I expect it's a good thing - the help part anyway.  After all, the OP did not get a lot of pointing and laughing.  Be careful.  First impressions can be deceiving.

Interesting - generally my married sims keep a relationship of 100/100 or close to that, so I'll have to observe more carefully if a romance sim in a couple like that does autonomous romantic stuff.  Thanks for the tip.
2009  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 19, 17:05:06
There seem to be a bunch of empty posts in this thread.

*looks all around* Is there a post thief here?

Makes me sad. I was gonna save the whole thing to keep for ideas and such.

Sounds like a browser problem to me.  I do not get any empty threads when I access the thread - all OK.  Check your browser settings or reload page.

Currently I am having the mystery "fold-a-tree" reflecting-shape, weather-ignoring, flat, undeletable, unclickable orange trees popping up, and need to track down the culprit in CC (as I assume that some old CC tree is conflicting with the new Seasons trees or added tree functions related to weather). They have been polite about popping up in non-obnoxious places thus far, but it is only a matter of time before I get one right in the middle of a house or pool or something retardo like that.

If it happens, post pictures.
2011  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 19, 14:21:06
...my favorite was a married Romance couple.  I made them both generic Aquarians and dropped them on the lot; they immediately started autonomously kissing, pillowfighting, making out, and generally chasing each other all over the lot giggling.  They were a lot of fun.   Smiley

How did you get autonomous kissing?  Was this an ACR induced behaviour?  I don't have ACR loaded, and have never had any romance sims do anything autonomously romantic (hug romantically, kiss, flirt, etc.).  On one lot, I specifically restrained myself from "assisting" a romance sim who liked another playable.  I fulfilled her want to be friends, be best friends, and play, entertain, appreciate, etc., but not to kiss, woohoo...

She had the wants to kiss the guy, woohoo, flirt, etc. but had no clue about doing this autonomously - best she could do was pillowfight with him, which improved the friendship, but not much else.  She ended up in aspiration failure before I finally felt sorry enough for her and kick started the romance a bit.
2012  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Shredded Cheerleader! O_O on: 2007 July 19, 14:14:35
If it is weird, then you get to play the "remove, check, repeat" game.
Good luck.

Oh, I love that game!  It's so wonderfully mind numbing and time consuming!

Just a thought - if the cheerleader outfit is Maxoid (i.e. not CC), it would be less likely to cause the problem.  Custom skins, new default skins, etc. would be more likely culprits I would think.  I had the same sort of thing once with some new CC clothes that used a new body mesh (I think from Grizzelda), and appeared to be incompatible with my custom default skins.  I liked the skins better than the clothes, so I deleted the clothes.  Mind you, they displayed all borked in bodyshop and CAS too, so it was reasonably easy to eliminate the bad ones.
2013  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lots missing after restoring default neighbourhoods from backup on: 2007 July 19, 13:49:52
I like the reasonably gentle response from Emma.  I believe when the disappearing lots thing happened to Lorelei, she got a rather fearsome (and probably premature) diagnosis of "Doooomed!"

If it's the same problem (and it sounds like it is) then it remains a mystery so far.  Keep going with your hood and see what happens I guess.
2014  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Relationships Between Townies on: 2007 July 18, 20:36:53
I've had teens picked up in limos, in sports cars, and other nice cars, I think (those townie kids come from well-off families!); and once -- only once -- in a rusty rattletrap.  It was when I first got the game, and Angela Pleasant snuck out with Dustin Broke, whose family was utterly destitute at the time.

In my last hood, one of my female teens snuck out with a girlfriend of hers and was picked up in the limo - the girlfriend's dad was a CEO or Chief of Medical Staff, or something like that.  I'm not sure how the game assigns a car if a townie teen is part of the sneak out.
2015  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lots missing after restoring default neighbourhoods from backup on: 2007 July 18, 20:27:39
The other thing I think of is that if your backup dates from before the EPs, it may no longer be compatible with the EP upgraded versions.  Or to put it another way, base game backup is likely not compatible with updated hood after loading UNI, OFB, NL, Seasons, etc.  Thus if you try to restore a hood using a non-compatible backup, you get strangeness.
2016  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 18, 20:11:29
In Urban Paradise, since it's more of a challenge 'hood (though I rewrite challenges and merge them until they aren't recognizable) making sure that I focus on the heir and breed them is the most important.

Funny.  I tend to play with a focus on heirs as well, although I never score the challenge because I'm always playing with hacks and debug mode.  I tend to like going for interesting events, interactions, occurrences, rather than sticking to the Maxis imposed timelines for eating, terlet breaks, etc.  If there's something good going down, I give them a full hunger bar and green bladder condition so they can get on with it (unless the situation calls for them to be hungry or extremely uncomfortable.

I tried one "real" Asylum Challenge in May (no hacks, no debug, no cheats, no InSim) and had no fights, only one death, and lots of pillow fights and sims breaking down and crying due to aspiration failure.  No visits from shrink, even when they did the chicken imitation or talked to the volleyball.  I got bored.  It's more funny now that I've turned all the former asylum inmates loose in the hood as townies.  One of the fortune sims from the asylum is still in aspiration failure (broke down and wept on a community lot yesterday because he had no way of making money).  Apparently the game has not assigned him a job yet.
2017  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Shredded Cheerleader! O_O on: 2007 July 18, 15:49:20
I don't know about the too old card thing.  My card is an ATI Radeon X200 built into the motherboard.  Certainly not the latest card from ATI (dates back to 2005) and it runs the game fine.  Might more likely be a driver issue.
2018  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 18, 15:01:07
I like Romance Sims, too.  Their primary desire is woo-hoo, and woo-hooing with their spouse keeps them always in the platinum -- unlike Pleasure Sims, my least favorite (replacing Fortune)...

...If they (or any Sim) roll a LTW that I don't like -- like 20 simultaneous lovers -- I reroll.  After all, the game is about MY pleasure, ultimately  Grin

I agree.  I have romance sims who flirt/woohoo with anyone they can (romancemod is critical necessity), up to a point.  However, I find they make good spouses and parents as well, once they "settle down".  Need to make sure they get woohoo with their spouse and things are fine for them.  I can ignore wants to "kiss other sim" etc.  I also reroll stupid LTWs - I hate the 20 simultaneous lovers, and the "have 10 kids" wants (population control concerns).

I play with a lot of romance, knowledge, family, and popularity sims.  I don't like fortune sims much because too many of their wants revolve around buying things, and I can't frankly be bothered.  They should go make money and stop bothering me about a new computer/TV, especially if they have one already.

Generally I don't mind if they fall in love with someone else.  Leads to interesting situations, which is, to my mind, entertaining.
2019  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 18, 14:41:45
- are you more into building lots, decorating lots, creating sims, or playing families?
A bit of everything - I don't use Maxoid Sims, except for NPCs.  I create everyone else individually, including townies/dormies.  I generally create my own houses, which run from the "normal" to the outrageous (built one floating house with a pool under it once).  Mostly I get tired of building after a bit and get back to playing so there's usually a lot under construction in my hood somewhere, waiting for a generation to grow up and need it.  I also steal houses from Maxis hoods if necessary.

- lots:
Walls up to take pictures.  Walls down/cutaway to play.  I don't care who has the most toys.  I focus on interactions, but not necessarily spawning.  I decorate if I feel like it, or if a Sim wants to buy a painting, for example.  Not big on cluttering the houses up with plants unless the Headmaster is visiting and I need a good enviro score.

- is genetics your thing?
I care enough about genetics to make my own sims - I don't do fuglies.  If an NPC is decent material, I could consider marrying him/her into the game.  Otherwise townies are Bodyshopped and imported to the game as needed for marriage or interactions, etc.  Other than that, I let the sims crush/love on whoever they seem to choose/end up with.  I do like watching how spawns turn out, but if a really ugly thing happens (i.e. no chin, huge nose) I have been known to call down a satellite (only if a family can make money off it though).

- do you build lots of hoods, or have you been playing one or two hoods forever?
One or two custom hoods only.  I use default hoods as places to plunder houses, and sometimes to clone Sims.  Lots of plundering and reloading from backup.  I never move in occupied lots or download lots.

- in terms of what your sims do: are you into relationships and interractions, or are you more into how they skill and climb the corporate ladders?
I like the relationships and interactions, but do the skill things if the aspiration or LTW of the Sim warrants it.  If a Sim wants to be Captain Hero, I'll try to get them there, but not at the expense of their other immediate wants (i.e. to make friends, eat omelettes, etc.).  I make sure they go to school, work etc., but don't concentrate too much on their grades.  I play several families at once in rotation (not strict) and will play a family until I get bored, and then move on to the next one.  I don't care about sync timing, so sometimes one sim will age to elder, while their childhood friend is still a teen.  I sometimes make spawn into townies, which means they don't age until they move back in with someone else, which could be a couple of generations later.  Makes things weird but interesting.

- do you play lots of community lots, or are your sims homebodies?
Mostly homebodies - even my fortune sims want spawn, so they woohoo a bit.  Lots of cooking, phoning, and playing piano.  I had one sim who was a novel writer (very poor).  I do Community Lots for shopping and meeting people, and sometimes to boost fun meters.
I don't do clothing hacks, so if they want to buy clothes, they go shopping.

-city/country/suburban?
Usually starts as wilderness/country, and evolves into suburban/village.

- do you do themes? (aliens, medieval, Victorian)
No themes, as such.  I download any CC that looks interesting, including medieval/victorian furniture and clothing.  Some of my sims dress in armour and go to work in helicopters.  Others have computers in rooms lit by candles.  One sim is mayor and dresses in pirate costumes, while his wife wears sundresses.

- do you play with pets?
No pets - why do I want to worry about the aspirations of dogs?

- do you do the vamp/werewolf/alien/zombie thing, or are you more a 'real person' player?
None.  Might try this sometime.  Have not had an alien abduction yet, after 8 months of play.

- hacks: do you like to make life simpler or harder? insim? inteen?
Hacks only to make things more sensible.  Use Jenflower's woohooteens and InSim.  I avoid inteen because of previous problems/conflicts.  Have a lot of the Director's Cut, but am somewhat selective.  I don't care if sim toddlers play in the terlet or if sims put coffee cups on desks in bedrooms.  That's what maids are for.  I usually run debug mode (heresy?), mainly to speed up bathroom visits (honestly, it takes these blighters forever to pee).

-custom content: lots or a little? what do you have the most of?
Use a lot of custom clothing and some furniture.  I do not download sims or lots, even though I have clean installer.  Prefer to build my own.

- and finally, if you share your creations...what do you create?
Sorry, don't create things yet.  Might get into that sometime.  If I shared anything now it would be houses, but they tend to be a bit abnormal.

2020  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Uni+LS Career LTWs on: 2007 July 17, 16:08:02
For TS2Seasons+Uni ONLY.  Do not use in any other version of the game. Don't even think about trying it.

Forgive what may be a dumb question, but does this mean you need Uni OR Seasons, or is it for Uni AND Seasons only?

Or to put it another way, I don't have Seasons and am wondering whether this will work.

EDIT:   OK, re-read the thing again.  My interpretation is now Seasons+Uni implies one needs both.  Correct?
2021  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More realistic/difficult relationships? on: 2007 July 06, 15:24:55
The romancemod is great for dealing with the stupid Maxian jealousy interactions.  I find it quite realistic that one or two of my romance Sim's lovers have become upset when he woohoos with a new lover, but others seem to take it in stride (provided that there is no formal relationship like steady/engaged/married).  I also find it interesting that these offended female sims take a lot more time to become friends again and will refuse interactions to improve the relationship in some cases, which is realistic.

I agree however, that normally any Sim my playables might meet are easily made friends and best friends with a little persistence.  What I have trouble with is negative reactions.

For me, negative relationships are much harder to get than positive.  It seems that there are a limited number of negative interactions to do to other Sims (argue, annoy, prank).  It's difficult for me to make enemies in my game.  Perhaps I don't spend enough time arguing, or maybe my sims are not grouchy enough.  I don't think I have ever had more than one fight.  It would be more realistic to have sims who didn't all imediately like each other, or didn't want to be friends right after meeting another person.

I've seen the pop-up box that says "I just met this sim but I really want to get to know them better.  I think we could be friends." (or something like that).  Why not "I just met this sim and I think if I ever see him again I'll kick his ass."
2022  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Proposition: Arranged Marriage Hack on: 2007 July 05, 13:51:28
And the fun of having two teen sims, betrothed since they were kids, who aren't in love, either getting to know each other, cos they know they are to be married at some point, or better yet, having one of them decide they don't love this other sim and finding someone else that they do love, and sneaking out with that new friend.

I suppose the interaction, if they were caught, would be the same as a married/engaged adult sim catching their SO flirting/kissing/woohooing someone else - slapfest, followed by breakup.  If it's going to be a "parents arrange marriage for children" type hack, that type of breakup should also have negative aspiration hits for the parents.

OK, I revise my previous opinion on this.  I probably wouldn't use this hack myself, but I can certainly see the possibilities for creating interesting relationship situations.

When you make sunken lounges etc, the lighting doesn't work properly, a real nuisance because it means less design options. I think from memory some standing lights work.

I had a lot once that I designed with a sunken living/bookshelf/TV area, surrounded by other functional space half a level above.  All the other rooms were reached off this area.  The effect was quite good, but the sunken area was always dark, due to the light problem (even when the rest of the room was bright.  I finally sorted it out with table lamps and floor lamps.  I like the floodlight idea.
2024  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Moving Sims between 'hoods - without the implosion on: 2007 June 29, 19:45:36
Sounds risky to me.  I know the situation you're in - need new neighbourhood but like my current Sims (some of them at least).  I think a better method would be as follows:

Clone the sims you want to keep using SimPE's simsurgery feature.  This will copy the physical aspects of your sims into a blank sim template.  Save your cloned sims (will automatically save in your savedsims folder).

Once you have cloned the sims you want to keep, make note of their skill levels, personality traits (i.e. neatness, outgoing, nice, etc.) so you can re-enter them in the new neighbourhood.

Go into Bodyshop.  Your saved sims should show up on the clone a sim menu.  Re-clone these sims in bodyshop to get a clean version (SimPE leaves some garbage attached which makes them pretty strange in game).  Edit as you wish in bodyshop and save your new clone.
Delete SimPE version of clone (keep bodyshop clone).  There are other threads that talk about cloning sims in SimPE and bodyshop.

At this point, you have nice blank sims.  Enter the game as normal and go to CAS.  Pull up your cloned sims and give them names, personalities, etc.  You may have to do each one individually if they are not going to be related.

For additional fine tuning of the sims personalities and skills you can either do that in SimPE, editing your new sims in your new neighbourhood, or in game using debug mode (click on the personality points and skills points sliders to adjust as necessary).  If you want them to have relationships (i.e. friendships, etc.) with other sims in the neighbourhood, you can edit those in SimPE.  Provided you noted the personality and skills points reasonably accurately, your sims should behave the same way they did in your old neighbourhood.

I think this might be easier overall than deleting memories, relationships, etc. by hand in SimPE using your old neighbourhood's sims directly.  It does take some time, but is less risky in the sense of missing baggage attached to sims that could lead to a meltdown of your new neighbourhood.

Addition:  Info on cloning sims can be found at: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8407.0.html
