Yes, EA usually follows up with a patch to fix the beta test, er, first release. Sometimes takes a while, though. Just gotta have patience (I know, it's not easy).
by the way, I installed latest mod (6/9 build) last night, but got a message that it expires on 6/13?

I don't for one minute think you turned the car - because you can't even select a car in the street. You can command a sim to 'go home' but they'll drop it from their queue and just walk back onto the lot.
Why it's angled? I don't have any idea - does the road curve right before the house? Who knows... I have not played a house with one car/one parking stall - but I'm wondering if this is now standard EAxian behavior upon arrival home from work - in other words - arrival home from shopping puts the car in the empty stall, but arrival home from work puts it on the street? Just a hmmm...because yesterday my sim left his car on the street when he came home from work, so I sent him to the grocery store, and upon arrival home from the store, he put it in the empty stall.
In other words, cars and parking stalls are EA-borked.

I have a household with two adults, two cars, one parking space.
Prior to Ambitions install, a fambly with this set of circumstances, whoever arrived home to find the stall empty would put their car in the empty parking stall, the other sim would put their car in their inventory upon arrival home.
Now, with Ambitions installed, if there is an empty parking space, the car goes there. If the space is occupied, the second arrival home puts their car on the street. It becomes unselectable until you send the sim off the lot, then you may have the sim go somewhere.
So I find it crucial to manually move the first car into the sims inventory so that the second car can occupy the parking space.
Edited to add: - cars function the same as before as far as there is no "turning" - upon arrival home the sim magically is out of the car and the car is either in the empty parking stall or on the street.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Death AND Destruction! Meteor Strike

Yes, but, are the meteor strikes, earthquakes and any other major catastrophes that EA thought to include in Ambitions truly rare or are they like the lightning strikes in Sims2 - so frequent as to become irritating as all hell...
In other words, if every three sim days there's gonna be a meteor strike, I'm not gonna be happy. It's not like meteors crash on our heads every 3 days in real life...kinda like the lightning...how many times has lightning actually struck you or the trees in your yard? Every time there's a thunderstorm?

long load times and long save times are why I keep a knitting or crochet project handy... or get up, do a chore or two, then come back and play...
I'm actually really surprised at how fast this new load on W7 is running. Of course, I have almost no CC...

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Why does the Stancke bed suck?
|
on: 2010 April 20, 20:08:33

This bed is supposed to be a top-tier item, though, based on price and presentation. It's a clear case of EA Phail.
I disagree, it is true to life. Sometimes you pay more for something, only to discover you paid for crap. Buyer beware. Except that the rest of EA's crap follows the "moar expensive" = "moar betterer" pattern. If it's true to life, it's not intentional on EA's part. It may not be intentional, but it is what it is, nonetheless... and trust me on this - EA will not 'fix' it, because they don't consider it broke. I know because I've asked (not about the 'stinky' bed, but about other broke-dick stuff from the EA store) their reps were some clueless as to why I would consider the items deemed 'broken'. It was an exercise in futility to attempt to carry on an email conversation with them. By the way, my German is mostly gone from my memory, but the minute I saw the name "Stäncke" something clicked... just looked. Stänker means 'mischief-maker' in German (hmmm, s'pose that's where we got 'stinker' from?)

That means nothing, and I'm dyslexic, so i am sooo sorry i am not smart like you smartasses I asked a question and you lot have to be bitchy
You either grow a thick skin very quickly around here or learn not to post. Re your original problems - have you been able to get the game to work with AM? It can take some doing, but often, it has to do with having the framework (not the mods, JUST the framework) installed in each folder for each expansion and stuff pack.

Apparently the coders are all like my hubby who gets up an extra hour early so he can read the paper and dink on the interwebs before he goes off to work...
I have whoever is the primary 'chef' in the house prepare breakfast meals the previous day to cut down on food prep time in the morning. Showers and baths night before helps, too. In large households, I also try to get their pixelated tushies out of bed 3 hours before they must leave for work or school. Reason for this is the odd queue crap that happens while they head for the fridge - too many queued for the fridge and some will drop the action. So large households require an awful lot of micro-managing in the mornings.
I have similar 'stalling' in my game - while cooking, showering, etc. and have been told it's my game...as others don't seem to have this. I've tried a lot of things to get rid of it. I've been able to minimize it for the most part. I notice that it is at it's worst when the mail delivery person enters the lot. Again, it's probably just my borkenated game.

Take a vacation until our fearless leader releases an updated AM compatable with the latest patch. I learned this several patches ago. The game's not worth playing without AM.
I had no idea they patched (again, heavy sigh) until I came here just now. I haven't played since the weekend - been too busy in RL... sometimes I gotta sell stuff, ship stuff, etc. Guess I've got no excuse to futz around and play tonight...more listing, yay.

(okay, to be fair, sometimes real life is just more important than pixelated people).
Bite your tongue. Stupid suggestion… Have you tried turning off all unnecessary background apps before starting the game? There are no "unnecessary apps" on the XP partition. It exists solely to play the game. It's on it's own hard drive as well, not a partition of a larger drive. I suppose I could shut down some of the MS gobbledygook that runs in the background all the time, but since it's a bare bones load, I'm not sure there's all that much there to begin with.

Well even with my computer specs, in order to play without lag and choppiness, I've had to reduce the draw distance and lot detail.
Where I see the most improvement with the lot detail down is in build/buy mode - the game doesn't stop and re-render the neighboring lots every time I rotate the camera - well it does, but only one lot, instead of 4 or 5.
As for the draw distance - I never had a problem when I was running the base game on 64 bit XP pro...but when hubby switched me to Windows 7 (and now I'm playing the game on a 32 bit XP partition and still having problems). So more and more I think the problems we experience with lag, choppiness, hurry up and wait (in CAS mode, infuriates the crap out of me that the game has to 'touch' every single thumbnail every single time instead of keeping the damn things loaded once it's 'touched' them once). Anyway...it's the game. And we either put up, or don't play. And, I've gone for more than a week of not playing just because I don't want to deal with the laggy, choppy thing (okay, to be fair, sometimes real life is just more important than pixelated people).

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Some invisible triplets?
|
on: 2010 February 14, 22:13:39

what basket? Why bother?
You want triplets (and God forbid, I know I do NOT want them in any fambly I'm actually going to play)... it's easy - get both parents 10,000 points and use it to purchase both the male and the female the 'fertility treatment' thing. Then make a baby, er babies. You'll have triplets.
I do this all the time with the adult kids after I've pushed 'em out of the nest so the grandparents (the sims I'm still actually playing) can have their '10 grandchildren' want fulfilled more quickly...so I currently have a set of grandparents who have 2 sets of triplet grandchildren plus enough singles to make for a total of 11 grandchildren.
Why you'd want to actually play a fambly with triplets, I'll never understand. Unless you think that you win this game if you have a stroke from the sheer frustration of it.

I agree with you on this point. What I would really like to see is some real drunken behaviors. I'd like to see more clumsiness after one drink; more childlike and crazy behavior after two drinks; more neurotic, flirty, and mean-spiritedness after three drinks; and some worshiping of the porcelain god after four.
Now if those behaviors were consequences of nectar drinking, I think there'd be a lot more nectar drinking in my game...

well I don't know about totally useless...I've been naming my 'truly awful' blends and having a lot of fun doing it... Crapola Nectar, Crapello Nectar, well, you get the idea...
The only blend I can definitely say the game doesn't find to be utter crap is blening flame fruit and life fruit and maybe a grape... I call if 'Flame of Life' Nectar...
I guess I find the whole 'nectar' and 'nectar drinking' thing to be stupid...usually don't bother having them imbibe unless it fulfills a want...

Some married sims won't stray. Others can't keep their pants on. It does depend on traits. And especially so if you have AM. If a sim has all of the following traits: flirty, hopeless romantic, great kisser and charismatic, then they'll step outside their marriage at the drop of a hat - they can't seem to help themselves. And if you must know, yes, I have (on purpose) created such sims and installed them in game and then let them do as they will. Keeps the neighborhood more interesting that way.

ugh. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be refraining from simming until further notice. More work, less play. May be dull, but I've had enough wonkiness with this game for one lifetime and do not wish to experience any more.

TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8 FML!!! (yes, 1.8, I went there)
|
on: 2010 February 01, 19:07:14

Been there, done that. Got the hair loss to prove it.
For some reason, when you re-install, the game doesn't always 'keep' the 1.8 patch between installing the base game and WA. This creates an impossible situation where the game just won't work no matter what you do.
Uninstall the whole shebang again. Make SURE you wipe every last bit of the game out of the registry, etc. (follow the instructions on the EA help site, I know EA sucks, but those instructions don't).
Make sure you also uninstall all vestiges of the EADM. All of it.
Then reinstall the game. Put any custom content you want in the game via the launcher in BEFORE you patch to 1.8. Then patch to 1.8. Now, if I remember right, I had to update my EADM before I patched to 1.8.
There are conflicts with the EADM and Windows 7. Also the latest EADM seems to have a problem with the launcher, and the way around the problem is to physically open the EADM and then open the launcher. Then update the game. This may or may not work because no two loads of any Microsoft product work exactly the same (at least in my personal history with their products).
After you've got the base game patched to 1.8, then install WA and patch to latest vesion (2.3?).
