76  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: You're so MEAN! on: 2009 October 29, 16:00:59
Is there any other way you know of to make a sim cry on demand?

You could try to give them the "neurotic" trait and let them harvest a death flower (on the home lot, not the cemetery). Other plants work as well, but with death flowers, you can be sure that they die once harvested. No guarantee, but the constant crying over barren plants was the reason why I stopped making any sim neurotic.
Oh, but make sure that it's the only plant they harvest (or the last one). It doesn't work when there are other plants still queued up.

77  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is this possible: "Portable" Guitar for Sims 2? Edible Fruit? on: 2009 October 29, 15:28:31
The option is Macro... Eat.  It's available to children too, and will properly use and stow serving platters as well as single plates.

Late to the party, but anyway - how do you manage to get the Macro... Eat option on non-owned community lots? I've tried, but in spite of having several "lunch bags" in the sims' inventories, the option just wouldn't show up. Is it dependent on the macrotastics version (I have the one from the BV director's cut), or am I just doing it wrong?
78  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2009 October 28, 10:32:33
You can delete the SDSC shown in the resource list just fine. It's the same thing, only presented in a different way. Personally, I prefer the way the sim description is shown in the newer SimPE versions, because (unless you're really blind and/or fatfingered) there's just no way to accidentally delete the sim DNA as well.
Plus, you don't have to write down the decimal values of the character files while "preparing for deletion" in-game, because SimPE shows both dec and hex values (okay, it does in my version).

I guess the meta question is: Are resources just files within the package, or is there a layer of abstraction here?

It depends. The resources of a custom object, for example, are really just that (files within a package), so if you mess with them and your game blows up, you can usually repair the damage by removing the flawed package(s). Original objects, on the other hand, have a different structure. There aren't seperate files for the objects, but for the resources (one for all GMDCs, one for all SHPEs etc.) with a shitload of cross-references. If that's what you mean by "layer of abstraction", then yes.
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets Fireplace on: 2009 September 18, 07:54:52
My bet's on "stackable". As I understand it, the Pets fireplaces can't be placed on top of each other like other fireplaces (using the same chimney). No idea if there's a fix, though.
80  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: SavedSims not showing up in CAS on: 2009 August 11, 09:36:39
I have a similar problem, and didn't see the need to start my own thread about it. Most of my custom sims show up in CAS, except for two of about a dozen that I downloaded and manually installed. All the other downloaded sims show up, just not these two, and for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?
Different age group maybe? Happened to me once, that I couldn't find a sim I'd just saved, because the filter was set to YA (per default, I think), whereas the sim I was looking for was an adult. I re-created him two times before I realized that there was an age filter Tongue.
81  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Unable to recolour kithchen counters on: 2009 June 26, 08:51:03
I have no idea if this makes a difference, but have you tried to place counters in a custom color scheme instead of placing counters in original colors and then style them?
82  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Acquaintances going boom from contacts? on: 2009 June 25, 10:57:56
If you really want to keep every idiot in the relationship panel, buy the "no distant friends" reward. It doesn't just prevent friends from becoming distant friends, but simply stops *any* relationship decay. Or at least, slows it down extremely. I've not noticed any changes for weeks (ingame). On the plus side, this is the case for negative relationships, too. My sim is still in the red with the burglar whose ass he kicked ages ago.
83  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What does talking to plants actually do? on: 2009 June 22, 07:23:43
So its no damn use at all then.

On the contrary - thanks to this option, there's no need to invest time in socializing. The game really doesn't need even more ways to improve plant quality.

I saw that post. That is HARDLY confirmation. "I think" is not what I was looking for, but someone who actually knows what it does because they have looked at the code or tested it and can offer an explanation.

Still, you could have posted your question in said thread.
84  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What does talking to plants actually do? on: 2009 June 22, 06:41:21
From what I've seen, it just raises social, but much faster than in TS2. It's perfect for loner sims without any acquaintances, but it seems to do nothing for the plants.
85  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 19, 13:33:53
You watch your sims sleep?

No. I said I found that extremely boring, and thus sent them off to fish indefinitely. Because watching Sims sleep is deadly dull. Ergo, inventories full of fish. Inventories full of fish = the ability to stock the home lot pool full of all the different varieties.

Yes, awkward wording from my side, sorry. What I'm trying to say is that unlike in the predecessor, I do not have the feeling that I spend so much time watching them sleep, skill etc. because I'm not limited to the one active residential lot and thus can do more interesting things within the game, while the sims are occupied.
86  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 19, 12:04:39
You watch your sims sleep? I use these hours to browse the town, so I know where to send them to collect stuff / go fish / visit potentially interesting spots right after waking up. Or I go to the beach and watch the waves Cheesy.
87  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Search Galaxy Opportunity on: 2009 June 19, 11:18:12
Have you tried to restart the game? That's how I fixed a similar problem with the omniplant quest - after a restart, the option suddenly showed up. I have to add, though, that my opportunity log already said "Go there to finish the opportunity", which doesn't seem to be the case here.
88  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Gardening and fertilizing on: 2009 June 18, 13:36:50
Or possibly better, I should experiment at some point to see if multiple grade boosts are possible.

They are - I've had several excellent (or even great) plants jump to perfect after being planted by a level 10 gardener (with the super green thumb perk, but not the green thumb trait). I think that it depends on the plant level, too. It takes several rounds of steak planting to get a perfect plant, whereas low-level stuff like lettuce improves really fast.

89  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Gardening and fertilizing on: 2009 June 17, 14:08:39
NOTE: Could this thread be moved to the Facts & Strategery forum, since it has many useful facts.

Seconded.
90  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Tipping question on: 2009 June 16, 16:40:48
I've never seen townies or guests busking.  It seems to be an action that's restricted to your active Sims.

Heh. If this only were the case. I had a sim eat at the bistro, and not only one, but two townies decided to play for tips in front of the building. In combination with the bistro music, the acoustic result was interesting, but hardly enjoyable.
91  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 16, 16:32:58
To answer SHW's question - yes, you can stock a pond on a residential lot with salt water fish.  I've had all 21 fish varieties stocked in the same pond, regardless of whether they are fresh water fish, salt water fish, or both.

Good to know, thanks!
92  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 15, 14:44:34
Same here.

The deathfish are kind of lame once you get them mounted, but the robotfish are pretty cool. I just wish you could feed the death flowers to the omniplant. I love those creepy little guys.

I like the deathfish better Tongue. I grow them to stock my pond.

Oh, btw - can you stock a pond with salt water fish, too, or will they die?
93  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 15, 08:16:06
Nope, as soon as you deliver the delicious steaks you get the omniplant seeds, although if you have every plant available planted you get reduced weed growth.

Ah - another myth busted then. Yes, I knew about the reduced weeds, that's why I wanted the omniplant (and all other plants) in the first place. Not just to grow deathfish, although it does look funny.
94  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Hidden Items on: 2009 June 14, 09:29:07
Hit Movie Composers get the option to sign autographs (I guess, Rock Stars do, too?). It's a minigame where you have to sign as much autographs as possible in a given time. Easy money, a nice ego boost buff, and watching the fans freak out is funny, too. I was strongly reminded of TS1 Superstar (ah, the good times).
95  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 14, 09:01:50
Solved! I was so damned sure that I'd overlooked something obvious (because that's usually the case when I get stuck in quests), that I didn't even think of a glitch. Restarting the game worked wonders, the option suddenly appeared.

You have no idea how often I controlled the steak quality and put them in and out of my inventory to see what the questlog said Cheesy.

ETA: One thing is still unclear for me: Do you need all the other plants to complete the opportunity or not?
96  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 14, 00:14:00
Okay, so I finally got the omniplant opportunity. I grew 10 outstanding/perfect steaks, but had no option to deliver them. I even made sure to be there when the bistro was open (11am - 11pm), although usually, opp options are just greyed outside the business hours instead of not showing at all.
Then I realized that I was still missing the flame fruit (the last one except the omniplant), and thought that this might be the reason why I couldn't finish the opportunity. More seed hunting. I lucked out and found some flame fruit seed, grew it, harvested it, back to the bistro - nada.

Any ideas what the hell I'm missing? I'm pretty sick of carrying those stupid steaks in my inventory Angry.
97  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 11, 11:29:11
Water plants are just lumped in with regular plants.  I remember seeing cattails and possibly some water lilies.

Hm... I was sure that I'd examined every single plant in all three categories (flowers, bushes, trees). Will look again, thanks.

ETA: Yes, found them. Thanks again, Roflganger Smiley

1. Pianos
2. PIANOS
3. Shelves
4. - 10. FUCKING PIANOS !!1
11. Water plants*

* or am I blind? The Landgraabs *do* have water plants, but I've been unable to find them in build mode.

At least we have fountains and rugs - the lack thereof drove me mad in the TS2 base game.
99  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Gardening and fertilizing on: 2009 June 08, 13:39:59
**Gained from opportunity that shows up after you learn the egg plant and cheese plant skill. Once done promises to give another oportunity that will open up omni plant.

Does anyone know what happens if you accidently decline this specific opportunity? Will you get a second chance, or are you just screwed (double screwed given that this opportunity seems to be mandatory for the omniplant one)?
100  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No censor hack for TS3 on: 2009 June 08, 10:35:53
Fortunately, I develop thickened scar tissue easily, and the increased shoulder armor is reducing the damage inflicted in subsequent encounters.

Somehow, I now picture you with an exoskeleton.
