Title: Help! I broke the shadow render or something...
Post by: KnowitallSim on 2007 March 26, 03:31:47
There are these 'zones' in two of my houses now where anything that goes into them become shadowy and dark and weird.  ???

No matter what I do I cannot get rid of them   :-[

Here's some photos:

I don't have any hacks and I have very little custom content (About 5 custom wallpapers, 10 custom floor tiles, 1 custom hairstyle, a few Maxis made custom objects, and about 10 custom outfits).

Help, anyone?  :'(

In your either options or graphics thing I can't remember which one, but check and see if the lighting is on low.  I run mine on medium and it works fine.

Lighting is on High  :(

I tried changing Shadows and Lighting and putting them on different levels but it didn't help.

Have you done something funny with floor levels? I get that low lighting when I have some sections of the house on ground level - a sunken lounge or attached garage - then the rest of the house is on a foundation. My sunken levels are usually darker than the rest.

Are you using a lighting mod?

Nope, nothing wrong with the floor levels.

One of the houses is a plain one story house and the other house (the one in the photos) is just a normal two story house.

And no, I am not using a lightning mod  :-\

Have you tried removing a section of wall and then adding it back in? That sometimes seems to solve various graphical glitches, so it's what I would try in this situation, since your problem seems to be specific to that one (or is it two?) house. After that I would look at what custom content, if any, is being used in the house.

Hmm, since you don't use a lighting mod I'm not sure if it's a problem I'm thinking of.

Did you take a household Sim to a community lot before this happened? Apparently that can screw with the light settings (at least with Radiance) when it reloads the house. Try replacing or simply moving the lights in those rooms. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what the problem could be.

I've seen something similar in my game.  Lights that were working previously suddenly look very dim and aren't providing much radiance.

I find going up a floor then going back down will often jolt the lights back to working (assuming they were working before).  For the top floor of the house, I need make sure there's a floor under the roof before I go up a floor then go back down.

I thought I saw something in my userstartup.cheat the other day - you could try this command from the prompt:

ctrl shift c
if you don't run in debug mode type: boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true
setLotLightingFile clear

I tried removing the walls.  :(

Both the houses were downloaded from the exchange, maybe that had something to do with it...

I had this happen with the Pleasantīs house from the merged neighbourhood I downloaded. I first thought, I had somehow screwed up my lightning, too, but my other neighbourhoods and the other houses in the merged neighbourhood still worked fine. So I assumed it was just a glitch. I didnīt check back in the Pleasantīs house yet, so I donīt know if it has resolved itself.

If youīre finding a cause for this please share. I didnīt add any costum content to that Pleasant house. So all the objects, walls etc. were Maxis.
