26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deleting Recolours - They've all gone blue! on: 2007 February 25, 02:24:23
What is happening is not a bad thing (depending on how you look at it). It will go away when you load the game again. It means that for example, a chair has only one file for its seat and for its cover, so when you delete one, the other disappears as well. But if you wanted to keep that chair seat and delete its wood part recolor, then that's bad. I have a reorganizing technique involving deleting only the recolors I want, and lots of backups. I explained it here, you may want to give it a go, but remember to always have an extra backup you won't touch at all: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7184.msg201125.html#msg201125

Some great tools there, made my life much easier!
28  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deleting Recolours on: 2007 February 24, 17:33:24
I just have to add, when you delete an object(mesh) from in-game, the recolors still clog up your downloads folder, you have to delete them one by one.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 2 Collections Questions on: 2007 February 24, 17:16:52
I always do the same, make a collection (residential) save, then change it to community and save with a different name. I haven't had anything bad happen, and I've been doing this since jfade's tool came out. Luckily now that it's so conveniently updated for pets and I just save one collection file for both.
I must add though, I don't add items to a collection in the game all that much, so I don't know what happens to the collection not added to.
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Serving Platter Madness on: 2007 February 24, 06:27:34
I personally like them serving the meal and calling all sims to eat. I think it's very hospitable and life-like. When I have guests in RL they should eat with us, or at least sit at the table with us, if they're not hungry. They are there to see us anyway, so why not?

For sims I just chuck the plates into the sims' inventory, if they're busy with something else. Sometimes it's good to have just a one-person meal stashed away, saves time.
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: To uninstall? on: 2007 February 14, 13:25:55
If I knew a little about object extracting, or even simpe, I'd just take all the objects, and kick the pack in the gutter.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Once you go mac you never go back! on: 2007 February 14, 13:10:01
amjoie, I bought a macbook almost week ago, and I was thinking the exact same things! (Well, not the same, I haven't been using mac since 1984, and stuff like that).

I wanted a laptop for work and school, and got carried away trying to find one that could play the sims2 better than my desktop pc, that was pretty stupid, considering that I was aiming for a small model. How is that going to be fun, I need a large screen for my Sims! I realised that I would be paying the same money for a laptop that would be more expensive than my self-built desktop PC and have almost the same specs (actually, lower), so I dissed the HP Pavillion I was considering, and started researching macs.

I was pretty informed about what I should expect, but it is sooo much better! It seems (I'm no computer pro) MacOS X is a very straightforward operating system. Unlike windows, it doesn't do things on its own or when installing a program. Everything is easy to find, and easy enough to remove without creating a total mess of your system. I just can't stop reading stuff about it, trying to figure it out more. And I love the beautiful design. I admit, I'm sold. I cannot look at any PC the same way ever again. Smiley *sigh

Funny, I just thought of Marcia Brady when I read Owen Wilson a few posts above! When I hear Owen Wilson, I remember Zoolander, then I remember Ben Stiller, then Christine Taylor (a.k.a. Marcia Brady- in the Brady Bunch Movie). Just as I was picturing a scene she talked to Owen Wilson in Zoolander, I read your post. Cheesy
34  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Okay, Anyone Doing the Sims/Vista Rhumba? on: 2007 February 14, 12:21:47
They're still doing shady stuff though like adding a DRM service that checks the license of a video 30 times a second, killing analog holes, and locking the kernel for no reason other than to attempt to make a monopoly.  There's still no reason to upgrade to it though because there's no DX10 games and if you do upgrade you'll gimp OpenGL.

I hate all that. Media player already nags me about videos. It's like windoze is the lawyer of what I want to purchase- or not purchase Wink
I just got a macbook as a second computer, and I'm in love with MacOS X (First time mac owner Grin). And on my gaming pc, no vista for me, I'm prepared to stay away until I have no choice. Stupid microsoft. I just loathe using Windows now.  Tongue
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: To uninstall? on: 2007 February 14, 11:54:16
I like all the cool furniture, but not all furniture is cool Wink and I kind of like the collection organising. Pets, I can live with, but without the stupid sim obsessions and the game slowing to a halt whenever there's a few extra pets on a lot.
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 07, 16:46:49
It does get fixed if you re-buy every phone on every lot, right?
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Clothing Organization - and PLEASE don't send me to SimPE!!! on: 2007 February 07, 15:05:28
I really liked the wall-floor editor jfade, the same batch renaming would be awesome (but not changing the filenames, just the tooltips maybe as Scratch suggested) That way I could find the clothes I wanted to make available for other categories, such as underwear or swimwear, without wrestling bodyshop. Smiley
I'm looking forward to this clothing tool altogether, thanks!
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 05, 15:48:47
I once patched my game and put the wrong exe in (the no cd one) and the game played fine but it was as if the game hadn't been patched at all. And as for the toddler hair. My toddler aged up just fine. She was bald, but I just changed her appearance and got the right hair color when the bin loaded, and she had the right color eyebrows. No facial disfiguration at all. In fact, she looks almost exactly like her mom Smiley
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Another Dumb Question on: 2007 February 05, 06:21:16
I have the new odd-stuff collections and they only work in build-mode/collections.
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Entering lot, sims all standing up straight not doing anything on: 2007 February 05, 06:08:39
After patches I used to have my sims reset, but this time it didn't happen. Everybody is doing exactly what they were doing when they were saved Smiley
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 04, 09:56:35
I just patched a few hours ago. The terrain paints problem is fixed, so I'm happy about that. But the game crashed in the first 10 minutes, now my second try and it's been running with no problems. Except for the whole gameplay being really really slow. The lots load much faster, but when they do, they crawl. It definitely wasn't like this before.

And to add one more thing. It seems my original Pets CD's exe file is sort of corrupt. Every time I fire up the game I get an error message asking me if I want to send the error report to microsoft. You know, the kind you get when you close an unresponding program.
I know it's the exe because I started playing with a no-CD exe a few months ago, and I never had any problems. Now as I've installed the patch I use the CD, and the original exe. And the problem is back.
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis/EA update re nVidia & Pets incompatibility on: 2007 February 04, 09:55:35
When it does the reboot Windows error says that the problem was due to the "device driver" forcing Windows to shut down. I'm using the drivers from November.

I had almost the same problem and the same error message and it turned out that it wasn't the graphics drivers as it was reporting. I know because even after I did a complete format of my hard disk and installed windows from scratch, I got the same error first time I loaded windows, before I installed any drivers. It was about faulty RAM installation (as far as I can remember).
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 03, 18:24:48
Okay, maybe I'll give it a go tomorrow. I can always back up the Programfiles/Eagames Directory and put it back right? I mean, if everything goes horribly wrong Smiley
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pets patch released on: 2007 February 03, 17:42:04
I have a question. Do you people who have patched the game still have your mods/hacks in. Because I'm going to install the patch but as I'm playing the game quite frequently lately, and can't even think of playing without my mods, I'm too scared.

I know Twojeff's mods are okay (except the one I don't have anyway) but should I put my other stuff in after I install the patch? Or if everybody's playing with their mods, I can try playing with mine. I also know that even if it works for everybody with their mods in, it's not necessarily going to be the same with me.
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood without Subhoods on: 2007 February 02, 17:39:53
Again, at the risk of sounding like I'm pimping Simwardrobe, there's an object there that lets you easily control number of max visitors on a lot. I use it for businesses a lot to bring in customers for lots of cash. If you're just creating downtown subhoods for more visitors, this object does it, you can change the max. number even if you're just visiting the lot and the sims appear quite quickly. Cheesy It's under business facilitators.
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis/EA update re nVidia & Pets incompatibility on: 2007 February 02, 15:23:31
I use nVidia and haven't had a problem. I have a GeForce 6600 GT 128mb and I see fish, fingers, bumpmaps and all the other fun stuff without any of the bsod that some people have. I think I use a driver I got from The Guru of 3D ~ I would have to check to make sure.

I have the same card, and I'm using old drivers from Nvidia website: 81.98 and it works like a charm! I've had no crashes, no bluscreens, I have all fingers and fish, bumpmaps and everything. Probably wouldn't go as far as to recommend the card, but if you have it and are having problems, these drivers work fine with me. So fine, I'm too afraid to try the new ones. I had BSOD with lots of drivers after OFB and ended up mucking the whole system. Smiley (Actually, that was me being an idiot, I'm keeping my hands off driver cleaners)
*edit: Although the driver I said above has worked very well since the time I got more RAM. So both combined to make a good combo I guess. I don't fiddle with it anymore.
47  Awesomeware / The Scrapyard / Re: Suggest Outfit Fix *EXPERIMENTAL* on: 2007 February 02, 07:58:21
How do you know he wasn't? They both had the same name, right?

Yes both have the same name but only one Adam shows in suggest piemenue.
And if i try the name it only gets the Owner not the Townie.
Its an old OFB Bug if i remember right there was an nonawesome fix out for.
Fakt is if you have two Sims with the same name only one name shows up in businessmenues.

I once employed 2 Andys. When I trie to give them assignments with BRY, I got only 1 Andy, and it wasn't possible to tell which until I assigned them. Stupid bug.
48  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Disappearing sinks- random on: 2007 February 01, 23:06:28
Maybe I phrased it wrong. It disappears off of the counter. One minute my sim is washing his hands, a couple of sim-days later the countertop is empty, like there never was a sink there.
49  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Vanishing Food? on: 2007 February 01, 16:34:35
I only have that happen if it's the other candle set, the one with 2 candles.
50  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Disappearing sinks- random on: 2007 February 01, 16:33:37
Some of the sinks that go into counters have started disappearing. I use them a few times-or don't use them at all, but at no specific time and incident, I find that they have gone missing.

It's not a graphical error. I can buy a new sink and replace it, but I dunno why it happens.

I don't play in debug mode too often, and as this is a random incident, I haven't got a log.

Has anybody else had this and does anybody know what triggers this?

It has happened 3 times in one of my houses with a custom counter and a custom sink, and once in a house with a maxis-counter, maxis-sink.

Not too much of a problem, still annoying, nonetheless.   Undecided
