Not really normal, no.

Does your system meet the minimum requirements for the number of EPs/SPs you have?
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apocalypse! How many are left? on: 2009 July 09, 04:39:46
When I first arrr'd TS3, I played it nonstop for approximately 2 weeks.

I haven't touched it since, and it's been about 4 weeks now.

TS3 isn't nearly shiny enough for storyteller me.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Novels - A Guide on: 2009 June 08, 17:55:51
You can also get Opportunities to write Biographies--one of my sims has written 2 of them already and she's a full-time novelist. Both times the Opportunity has been to write the memoirs of her one and only friend.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Show us your... Gameplay: Legacy Edition on: 2009 January 09, 18:32:49
I play/document a legacy that has been ongoing for 2 years now and is currently on Generation 7. There are approximately 40 households at this point. Generation 7 has a population of 75 sims right now and at least three sims are still pregnant. My 'hood has only exploded once (due to my own stupidity and simPE) but I had a back-up.

Prior to generation 6, I recorded only some of the family lines--basically the immediate legacy family and the first circle of cousins. Each generation got a page in a notebook with some minimal statistics jotted down. Now, I use an index card system because I dislike tabbing in and out of the game to record everything electronically. Sims are filed alphabetically by first name and sorted by generation.

Line 1: First Name Last Name-Married Name (if applicable), Gender
Line 2: Personality, Sign / Aspiration-Secondary
Line 3: LTW / LTW 2 / LTW 3 / etc.
Line 4: Parents (or origin, if not born in game, i.e. bin sims from the various EPs)
Line 5: Spouse / Gender Preference
Line 6: Offspring
Line 7: Skintone DNA & Range
Line 8: Dominant eye color / Recessive
Line 9: Dominant hair color / Recessive

On the back of the card I record anything about them I especially need to remember. When they transition to Elder I enter their lifespan (check with SimPE).

I play with the "New" legacy rules but I do not score, although I follow a couple of the handicaps: the one about using no Elixir unless it's moo juice and the storytelling one. The handicaps only apply to the legacy household, however.

I document my legacy on the Exchange. The story does not follow the more distant relatives except when they make the odd cameo, and the writing style changes drastically around the middle of generation 3.

Link to Chapter 1; Warning: contains poor photography (which improved as I went on) and Pirate scum.

I've also written several pulp/noir/satire detective stories and posted them on my sim page. /shameless plug
5  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! January: Accessories on: 2009 January 07, 04:53:49
There's all these animal-themed skins and accessories over at Genensims. They're not completely terrible, except that, um, yes they are. Anyone know what to call something with four ears?

(image snipped)

A mutated furry, duh.

They work better on sims with long hair so you can't see the other ears, though. If you're into that sort of thing.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: sim or object floating, or flying. on: 2009 January 06, 18:41:49
Aikea's animation hacks (or Squinge's Hula & More) will also let you trigger a specific animation. Whenever I have a sim falling in a picture I use the Superhero Take Off and Superhero Land animations and position the sim accordingly. Invisible floors, invisible columns, and invisible magi-splay trays are your friend as well.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NEWS: WE CAN HAZ LEGAL THREATS? on: 2008 December 15, 21:19:12
And in any case, all this illegality may exist in USerica, but the internets are not just USerican anymore.  What links a Malaysian site has on it, may turn out not to be in this lolyer's area of expertise.

Out of curiosity, do you happen to know what stance Canada takes on intellectual property?

Not really sure with regard to filesharing etc. what Canada's current legislation permits, or doesn't permit.  My understanding is that it is somewhat more lenient than the US.  For example there are important questions remaining regarding filesharing of music files.  Additionally, at the time that the US was pursuing demonoid, Canadian police indicated that this was not a priority for them.  The position appears to be that, while it is technically illegal to download a lot of content (including music and games), it is impossible to track all downloaders and to try to do so would be a waste of time and resources.  As of 2007, the RCMP (mounties) indicated that piracy for personal use is no longer targeted by the police.

Currently, Canada's laws regarding electronic copyright are extremely lenient. However, new legislation has been proposed in the form of Bill C-61 which would tighten up Canadian copyright law even more restrictively than the DMCA in the US. Fortunately, with a completely dysfunctional Parliament this bit of legislation has fallen by the wayside--for now.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Illuminating 2 story rooms. on: 2008 December 15, 04:57:52
You could always just stack invisible light recolours directly below the ones on the second story... search around; someone's bound to have them.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Interesting business glitch. on: 2008 December 12, 03:10:56
It's a contradiction contraction, combination of two words - YOU and ARE. "Your" is a possessive pronoun, implying ownership.

*funkilla hides her English grammar geekiness, despite English not being her first language and still can't speak it correctly.

I fixed it for you.
10  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My dog is sinking into the ground. on: 2008 December 06, 00:06:18
Just to be clear: this is different from the normal sinking-into-ground behaviour pets exhibit when the lot gets reset? (I.e. after a patch, certain hacks, or new EP/SP install.) Normally I just have to wait about 3-4 seconds and they pop back up out of the ground on their own...
11  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: No Aspiration Sim! Side effect of aging 6's up with playable? on: 2008 November 20, 00:04:11
I've had teenagers age up "normally" and even though I have picked an aspiration they haven't gotten a lifetime want until I saved and left the lot and went back in.  Likewise I've had toddlers aged up from babies who had lifetime wants despite having no aspiration.  It went away after a while.  Not sure what causes it, but I know I didn't use cheats to age them, because I only do that on townies and these were playables.

Teenagers don't choose a LTW until their wants reroll.

Toddlers having LTWs is a sign you've got some dangling character files lying around, which is a sign of potential future 'hood explosion. Generally happens after you've moved sims to the 'hood via the lot bin (or out of the 'hood the same way), or you've deleted a character or family from the sim bin.
12  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 October 17, 18:12:31
I invite people to join a group or try to meet a group of friends on a community lot to have dinner or something and they all freeze up. They literally just stand somewhere.

Targa's backdrop has been borked since I think Seasons. It screws with autonomy on dates/outings. Any chance you've got it lurking in your TS2 folder?
13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: AL: i broke my closets...and i dont know how. on: 2008 October 13, 07:14:34
Also: CEP. Make sure you've got the correct version--it futzes with objects and it's usually my first suspect if something's wrong with one.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A question of genetics on: 2008 October 11, 05:32:45
I'm just getting back into simming, and I'm curious if the SimSurgery is still Fubarred? Or is there another program that can do the Sims DNA thing correctly...seems like Rick Halle had one that worked early on, unfortunately it was pay content.

I've never run into problems. I don't touch the facial DNA, though--the most I'll do is fix eye/skin/hair DNA. The first time I ever used it was with Seasons SimPE.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A question of genetics on: 2008 October 10, 16:33:59
1) Is there an easy method to extract a skintone used by my male sims and colourize the nipples of the females in the skintone and replace the existing males skintone in the game?

2) Is it possible to change an existing (in the game) females skintone/mesh/whatever in SimPe so that the male children grow up to be SlimBody Builders and not maxis skinny dudes?

1) I would assume you could open the package file in SimPE, export the texture, colourize it using your image editing program of choice, and import the new .png file... not sure of the exact procedure, but you can probably find a tute. Or use trial and error. Just back up the .package first...

2) Changing skintones in SimPE is ridiculously easy. Just add the relevant .package files to your filetable, and the skintone option will show up in SimSurgery. You'll then have to open the sim's character file and update the SimDNA to make the change genetic. Again, back up your 'hood first...
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: In need of a no spawning social townies hack on: 2008 October 07, 18:10:32
I had the antiredundancy hack in my download folder while testing.  Sorry I did not mention that the antiredundancy hack was in my download folder, and it was the updated version for AL.  So there is a need for a social sim hack.

Other individuals at the main sims 2 board have claimed that the notownieregen in their download folder is not stopping the spawning of social townies whenever you visit a community lot.

Grab the newest version, then. It's been updated several times since AL came out, IIRC. Older versions do NOT stop social townies from respawning.
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 30, 18:01:19
To be clear: is the lamp unmovable when accessing the inventory as well as Build/Buy? Does movebojects change whether or not you can move the lamp to inventory?

I could not move it with the build or buy options, also I could not move it and put it into inventory.  I did try moveobjects on cheat, but I still could not touch it with the hand.

This cheat should help you:

boolProp aptSubLotSpecificToolsDisabled false

It lets you place and remove stuff outside your sim's apartment suite. But anything you place 'outside' won't be visible or even there if you play another household in the same building. It should allow you to retrieve lamps and date gifts, though.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Skewed Neighborhood Demographics on: 2008 September 30, 17:58:13
I think you've just been bit by sado-randomness.

Each time a townie generates, there's a 50% chance it'll be male, 50% it'll be female.

You could always generate your own townies using the NPC/Townie maker and only accept the male ones...
19  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Frozen Sims on Dates and at Parties on: 2008 September 29, 18:04:42
This thread might help.
20  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 24, 17:01:17
Okay, I ended up removing everything in my downloads folder - I even removed some overrides files from Lord Darcy in the AL overrides folder - the cabinets still don't work.  Embarrassed  I don't get this. I used the Roth family as testsubjects, and I removed the .cache file. The only thing I didn't remove was the CEP. Could that do this? Although I figure everybody has it, so then more would have this problem.

For me, the CEP is always the FIRST culprit if an object is misbehaving in some way, shape, or form. Plus, I think it was updated for AL recently--update & see if you still have an issue.
21  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 28, 14:15:42
I only played for an hour so far, but I am getting the impression a sim is now motivated to go to bed partly because it's nighttime, not just when their energy bar is really red.

That makes sense. I had a sim heading to bed around 11 PM (in the middle of a party, no less) with her energy at ~40%. I'm not sure if I consider it a bug or a feature yet.
22  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 28, 13:21:48
Also wondering if anyone else is getting the sleep option on their beds, even if their sims are fully rested?  Just curious before i start doing another hack-dance.

Come to think of it, I noticed this as well. At least, my sims were going to sleep after 'hoo with 80% still on their energy bars.
23  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 27, 21:13:35
They reach into their ass to answer the cellphone and poof, it's gone.  The wall phone will still ring and can be answered, but the cellphone is no more.

You did pull your CC/hacks, right?
24  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 August 27, 15:01:43
- Potty and high chair that came with FT are missing the wooden colours, I can only choose white ones. I can place them on the apartment, but they're invisible and so I can't use them.

You removed the CEP, right? It probably needs updating...
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Gameplay: How do YOU keep track of sim lifes? on: 2008 August 25, 15:57:51
I have notebooks (way, way too many notebooks) for tracking individual branches of the family tree, as well as determining who is in each college 'class'. I also use my notebook to keep track of plot ideas and to write out scene-by-scene breakdowns of shots I need to get for my various plots.

I've started using index cards to track stats for individual sims. I track:
Name/Gender
Personality/Horoscope/1o Aspiration/2o Aspiration
Lifetime Want (and subsequent, if the first is fulfilled)
Parents
Spouse(or partner--not all of my sims get married)/Gender preference
Children (with a note whether they were adopted or if the father is other than their spouse/partner)
Skintone DNA
Eye DNA
Hair DNA

Any other pertinent notes go on the back of the card, and they're filed alphabetically by generation.
