TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB Business Type Questions

Most of my regular families don't run home businesses, but the Temple of Holy Cats runs one. Customers are charged an hourly fee to use a bubble blower and pet cats. I use the No Unauthorized Persons thingie to keep "customers" out of my sims' living areas. If you start at a low price and up it gradually, tickets sell themselves. And there's no reason to ever close!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Sims 2 Is broken..

Once I let one family live on their own when I went to bed (and had a good five-houry sleep) and only one teenage sim survived.. There are ways to improve their chances. Certain hacks that take the edge off the stupidity, extra fridges so they don't run out of food, sprinklers over the stove, good house design. Actually, I think there's a challenge based around this, isn't there? The point I was trying to make was that if the Maxian creeps had worked on the AI a bit more, their free-willed lives would be longer and safer. Yes, but if they just lived perfect lives doing all the right things all the time without you then they wouldn't be much of a game, would they?

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2?

I don't know if I want MORE or LESS deaths, but I would like some changes in the methods of death, I guess. A lot of things just seem so weirdly unbalanced; it's apparently very easy to die of hyperthermia in Seasons, but totally impossible to freeze to death. It's relatively easy to be scared to death on a lot with multiple ghosts, but practically impossible to die of plague. I don't have a huge problem with how it works, but if I were making the game, I'd tweak this stuff.

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Unlimited number of Sims -- released

ETA: Actually, I just looked at the error message again, and it says "households with more than 10 members" instead of 8. That's very strange.
With Pets, I believe the total number of sims formally allowed to live on a lot is ten (ten total, with no more than eight humans or six pets). ETA: Although you said this was a Greek lot, which can't have pets in any case, and would thus still be limited to eight. I need to get some sleep.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Setting Downloads to "read only"

This may be just me, but way back, I experienced random download deletions when downloads were set to read/write. This was way back when I only had the base game, and it was the Mac version, so it's probably an old and irrelevant weird bug. But I still set everything to read only. The memory of the disappearing phonehack haunts me.

While I haven't had the problem of pets being unable to reach food, I have repeatedly had cats get stuck in between a bowl and the wall. Not even my real cats are this dumb.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Romantic photobooth pic enabled?
|
on: 2007 March 09, 07:47:14

Does anyone know if a mod has been made anywhere, by anyone, to enable Sims to take a user-directed solo Romantic picture with the photobooth? I know visitors will sometimes do it autonomously, so the option must be in there somewhere. This seems like such a little thing, but I'd like some more variety in my booth photos.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mac FAQ - potentially...

As far as I have seen, there is no way to switch between windowed mode and full screen mode on Mac or Windows, but you can hide TS2 on mac by pressing Apple H, or something like that. Really? Why did I think there was a way in the Windows version? I must be hallucinating again. Thanks, simsbaby and Marhis, for the tip -- I guess I figured if the "switch to next application" was disabled, then "hide" would be too. The things you learn.

- It seems there's a bug in the Mac OfB (hence probabily by Aspyr, not Maxis): when you resurrect someone... Just checking for my own peace of mind -- am I wrong in thinking this is fixed in Pets? (I got Pets and OFB at the same time, and have never experienced this bug) - Default settings for BodyShop are wrong. You have to change them, for being able to export texture bigger than 512x512 pixels, and with better resolution. On MTS2 there are a couple of threads in which is explained how (now is offline for maintenance, I can't give direct link). Is this the bug wherein BodyShop exported all texture files in a Project at half-size (256 instead of 512)? Again, I could be wrong, but I *think* this is fixed in Pets -- at least, I haven't had to resize all my .bmps since. I still had to tweak my config file to get BodyShop to import anything without making it disgustingly blurry, though. - On Mac is easier to change screen resolution for the game, and to run the game in window mode. Hold down command (apple) key while double-click to fire up the game, and a settings-chooser window will open up. This works for BodyShop, too (you can select 1024x768 instead of 800x600). On the other hand, the Mac version doesn't include a way to switch between windowed and full-screen mode on the fly (unless this, too, was fixed in Pets and I didn't notice!), or to switch to another application while in full-screen mode (command-tab is disabled ).

I'll also mention that I'm running on a Mac, and I've had up to 3GB of downloads before without hitting the limit. This may be low for some people, but it isn't as though you're only allowed three. My main "advantage" to running on Mac is just that it happens to be the computer I have and the OS I was running when TS2 came out. And that's just a matter of personal preference. I was tired of general Mac vs. Windows debates a decade ago, and I don't think they're really all that useful to Sims players, or anyone. A general FAQ for Mac Sim players might be a thing of value, though. Additionally, I have an old version of WooHoo (the one that was posted at MTS2 before it got yanked) I'd be willing to upload or send to anyone who wants one, if it's no longer available at the maker's site. I heard there were problems with the "backup" function or something, but it seems to work fine just to install .Sims2Pack files, or look at .packages to figure out what they are.

I don't see a lot of stuff that fits my playstyle, but the bank stuff and other hacks on that site are full of interesting ideas. I laughed pretty hard at the "wearable by all ages" diapers. For the VERY dedicated skill builder!
