Thinking about it, the "supernatural" things each sims expansion has read like a nasty fetish slashfic.

Anyway,

The original game had alien abduction resulting in a butt baby.

Uni added Zombies and Zombie loving. Remember the guide says they cannot get or make other sims pregnant because "they are dead". Ewww.

(Uni also added Furries. I think we can all agree about furries. Not supernatural, but damn creepy.)

NL added vampirism in the form of a STD. Good thing modern sim science had strong antibiotics, that gypsies carry.


So, what is the freak addition for the expansion? I know they are expanding furries (gross) to be beyond just the mascots.

Apparently, they can woohoo with robots next.

I know for a fact that one of my sims is reading this on the Simternet and thinking "Robot woohoo?  Yes!  I can check that one off the Personal To-Do Before I Die List!".  I can't say I blame them, somehow... better than being experimented on by aliens or sleeping with a zombie. ;)

I mean, who wouldn't want a personal android/cyborg sex device?  ;D

We already have vibrators for the girls and those fleshlight things for the guys.  Do we really need mechanical bodies attached to them?

Well, I think all that stuff should have been left out altogether from the base game and EPs, and they should have made one (x-rated) add-on for each theme which you caould choose to buy if you wanted.  I don't appreciate having these things in my game - I don't use them, they waste space and are a total pain in my book since, although Maxoid Tom said you have the choice as to whether or not to play the vampires, you don't have the choice as to whether or not they appear on your community lots (unless you have non-Maxis hacks)  and parents who might otherwise allow their kids to play sims2 are often reluctant because of all the twisted sex!  If that whole aspect had been kept out of the main eps then there would be less badly written coding to fubar peoples' games too!

Well, STD could stand for Socially Transmitted Disease, and I assume that neck-biting (for a vampire) is Social!

The Sims is X-rated now? Since when? It's not like there are graphic depictions of anything.

Aliens = Sim goes bye bye. Comes back. Starts pregnancy symptoms. No-one ever said anything about rape.
Necrophilia = So the Sim looks a little different, and lurches about. They aren't *corpses* for crying out loud.
STDs = This one I just don't get. It makes no sense when applied to vampirism.

Nude Sims have censor blurs, and even then they have no 'naughty bits' unless the user has downloaded some hack for that. Woohoo is done under cover of bed, or wherever else it is done. The hot tub is probably the most explicit, and even then you don't really see much of anything.

As for the 'Woohoo > Pregnancy > Baby' thing, anyone old enough to play the Sims should know where babies come from.

I don't get where this 'X-rated' content is. It's not in my game, that's for sure.

If you want to be technical, a zombies are animated dead, but that's never stopped me from dating them here in meatspace.

I personally agree it's not x-rated - but whereas kids who are old enough to know where babies come from are old enough to play The sims, they can still have nightmares about the undead, whether vampires or zombies!

I just think, if having Santa Claus in your game is a matter of choosing to buy an add-on, the same thing should have been appled to vampires etc.  I mean, around Hallowe'en it would have made a good add-on to release.  

Surely the reasons for the inclusion of vampires, zombies, aliens is to make a somewhat humorous poke at "real life".
It seems to me to be a sort of sarcastic social commentary.

I just don't want them in my game because I don't play them, and they take up space!  I agree they're probabyly the sarcastic social comments you suggest - but how many 9-year-olds would recognise that and say, "Oh well, it's only a sarcastic social comment, now I needn't have nightmares!"  (There might be people who have nightmares about Santa, and Maxis wisely only included him in a special add-on!)

Well, this game is rated Teen.  As in, 13.  13-year-olds are pretty sophisticated, and watching movies that contain all of the above, and far worse most of the time.  I don't think the game is quite as bad as suggested, and sanmonroe isn't exactly the moral pillar to which anyone should hold themselves to, based on previous posts.

And here in the UK the base game is flagged 7+, they only upped it to 12+ with Uni, so a lot of parents could buy it for their kids and have no idea what's in it.  Besides which, the price of the game is not beyond most kids' reach with birthday or Christmas money (and an older friend to buy it for them!)

Talking about sex in costume - we had a couple here in the city where I live who liked to dress up.  He particularly liked wearing his superman costume. tying her up  and climbing onto the wardrobe, from where he would take a flying leap onto the bed and  -----  woohoo!  On one occasion he miscalculated, and as he jumped, he fell and broke his leg badly.  Wife of course is tied up (gagged and bound the papers said) so was unable to get help......I think finally someone missed them and got the police to break the door down!  Embarrassing or what?

Oh I don't think so.  I was a pretty unsophisticated 9 year old, and I very much doubt zombies would have scared me in this game.  Ultraman vs Godzilla gave me the willies, terrified me.  Night of the living dead scared me, although it was pretty humorous.  Even as an adult, I closed my eyes during some parts of The Ring. (when she comes out of the tv).  But zombies in TS2? Pffffffft.    As any movie producer will tell it's the atmosphere that scares you.  The suspense, the what's around the corner, the spooky music, all that.  If you took any scary (bloody) scene from a movie and reduced it to a still, or to a one minute clip, we would likely be more repelled than scared.

So I don't think zombies in TS2 are scary in the least to anyone. Unless you are scared by cartoons.

I think they've figured it out by now. What's really funny is that both of his brothers want him to be abducted again too. (It's one of Circe's fears, though. Need to fix that.)

The Fly creeped me out badly. That human head on the fly body - ewwww. My son could watch pinhead tho. He watched that whole set of movies, never a nightmare or anything. He just loved horror movies - cut his teeth on Lon Chaney as a toddler and watched everything he could from there on. I think they woulda scared me (Pinhead). Depends on the kid, I guess.

My 14-year-old niece has been watching horror since she was knee-high to a grasshopper and loves it!  My own kids won't watch it because it's just too gross for them.  But they'll sit through all kinds of 'sci-fi violence' without a problem at all.  Funny thing is, the sci-fi violence totally freaks out my niece! LOL

On the other hand, none of them want to watch movies that contain what they deem to be more real-life trauma.  The key to their enjoyment of those movies is that they really aren't realistic in their minds. 

Exactly.  I won't watch war movies for the same reason.  I am adamant about it.  I don't care that if it won a million oscars and it's the best thing you ever saw.  I  w i l l  n o t  w a t c h.   I know war is brutal, ugly, evil.  I know it, and I don't need to see it pictured in vivid color to know it in my heart.  I watch movies to be entertained, not to be upset.

Obviously! I find it highly unlikely that a 9 year old would be scared by the vampire either. As far as the getting upset about weird sexual dimensions, I think you have to be a certain age to even think of things like that, or be disturbed by them. A nine year old would probably just take it all in stride, and not think twice (although you might get some embarrassing questions). They are far less squeamish than adults, IMO. Too bad they don't get STD's in the game, then kids would learn something about risky behavior! However, I think seven year olds should not be playing the game, since some of them apparently are afraid of the Grim Reaper.

As I said, unfortunately the base game was marked 7+ over here (I don't know if they've since altered that!) so there must have been a lot of frightened kids when their simmy died and the GR appeared!  (And young kids do have problems keeping their sims alive!)

Mine do, but only because I searched actively for the vile smut, and eagerly downloaded it from the co-conspirators working at sites that were peddling it.  Fortunately for me, though, I have not been a minor for many more years than I was a minor.  Obviously something else along the way corrupted me to the point where I find such disgraceful game content enjoyable, nay, necessary.

I think it's unfair to equate alien impregnantion with rape. How do you know whether it's forceful, violent, and non-consensual? Part of parenting is to fully investigate things before you let your kids have it.  G4's intro to the game made it seem like it was a DYI porno.  I was flabbergasted. If I saw that not having the game myself--I would not have played it.  I never let my kid's see a movie or less I have seen it or a like minded person had seen it.  It's funny cause now my kids are teens and I will want to watch an older movie with them and my daughter says"I thought we weren't allowed to watch that"  well, dear,you are ten years older than you were when I first said that.  It is the parent's job to censor--the rest of the world shouldn't have to do it for them.  Now if we could get the networks not to advertise scarry commercials in the middle of the day during G TV.  That would be nice. 

Personally, I think that anal probing would be pleasurable, at least for males, in the basic, purely physical/mechanical level, since it would be stimulating the prostate gland. Personally I have no problems with anyone who wished to partake in this activity. If you would like to have sex as Winnih the Pooh be my guest. Leave me out of it and I won't bother you. Furries do however take lot's of crap. JM's chart is pretty good actually. Anyway, nothing is really wrong with it and I would advise that no matter how sick it makes you think, it is actually natural and a part of the human brain. Besides, I'm sure each and every one of you here has their own sexual ideas and fantacy that others may find odd/strange/bad/godless/whathaveyou. (This is just begging for a larger disscussion on the role of sex in the United States, but I won't go much further).

Please. I've seen cartoons for 5 year olds with more dark themes and characters than TS2. A 9 year old would either find that aspect of The Sims boring or exciting. Not scary (unless they are some sort of sheilded ignorant child of overbearing parents who want their kid to live in a bubble). Buttsex? Diving too deep (no pun intended). Undead zombies as sexual fetish? WTF? No. STDs from Vampires? Someone needs to relearn the definition of SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES. Last time I checked, neck biting was not sex. Foreplay perhaps, but not sex. Want to go down the AIDS/HIV saliva blood aspet? Last time I checked your sims don't bleed, nor can they transmit a fatal disease via Woohoo or by kissing.

Anyway, I really liked that idea of the wacky characters as overdramatizations of real life. I'll keep that. Then, for anyway who is too young or does not want to accept that: the characters are just there to be wacky and make it more of a game than a reality.

Thanks for the links, phew, although now I have interminably cute images on my brain, which will make me think of all the kittens being killed by the kitten-killer, at least it is way better than the prior images.

Actually I was made curious by one of the reference, as seemingly my single experience was only of the garden variety, according to sanmonroe.  So I looked up the object of my curiosity on the Wikipedia.  I figured there I'd find an explanation minus the picture. Googling it was no a good idea.  I was right, but what I didn't anticipate was just how queasy the  descriptions would make me.

Some knowledge is really not worth seeking out.
