Roommate suddenly added to household

I don't think I've ever played a TS3 game that didn't lag eventually, but I never had a problem like this before. I have a family of two sims, who share a house with three roommates (generated by the game, although I de-puddified them). All of a sudden, one of them joined the household (and became playable). I immediately quit my game without saving but it happened again, at the same time, when the roommate came home after his job and got promoted. Nothing I do seems to prevent this from happening. It's not a huge problem, I decided to just keep playing and ignore that he's in my household, but it's annoying. I did try to move the dude to another household and then thought I'd ask him to become my roommate again, but the stupid thing never showed up in the pie menu. Did anyone else experience this?

I haven't been on the forums awhile and just happened on this thread.

At any rate...I had a similar thing happen.  I had a family with a teen, and the father's brother as a roommate (the Hamming family in Bridgeport).

All the adults--including the roommate--went on the free vacation.  Which was fine, teen got to party.  But when they came back, the roommate was playable.

I shrugged and figured, eh, might as well play the uncle too.

I hear the free vacation thing is rather borked to begin with.

If you have NRAAS (I know, I know, kinda late to the game here), you could probably use MasterController or StoryProgression to fix it.

I have to wonder if the roommate system isn't borked as well.

"Roommates?" What is this? I've never heard of this system. Is this some new University-based feature that probably shouldn't have escaped into the wider neighborhood to begin with?

jezzer:
No, it's game-wide. Your sims can request a roommate, who moves in but is non-playable.

J. M. Pescado:
That sounds like the worst idea ever. What possible benefit could this provide?
