Post by: ApatiaMax on 2007 September 30, 12:56:55
the first is about sLeeping sims
I wonder why when the sims sing, they didn't wake up the one that sleep.
this request come 'cause i need to wakeup some seeping sims, and use tv or radio, is a bit boring, so they can sing, but apparently not so loud to wake up the seeping one, any fix ?

*edit*

Ewwww - you're right, Emma. And I'm afraid that they have already reached a state where you cannot wake them up anymore, too.

I do not understand what you are trying to ask for.

It sounds like she/he wants a mod that will wake up sleeping sims because she thinks that having a radio or TV on is a boring way to wake said sims. :D

indeed, i wonder why the song (when the sims sing) have no effect on sims that they sleep

There are already plenty of ways to wake up sims, other than the radio, including the ever-popular SSX3, the APO siren, and many more, including the tried and true method of Xing out the sleep action.

If I'm not very mistaken, it's about the karaoke machine, and obviously, it doesn't wake sims up (just like performing for tips on the piano doesn't, whereas practicing does), but ApatiaMax is looking for a hack that changes this behaviour. Or something like that.

I think the idea of "need fix-annoying" is perhaps a misconception of this (except for the obvious misuses of small letters and lack of grammar, which are arguably annoying).

I have never found sleeping sims particularly annoying - I get more annoyed when other idiots with pianos wake them up.  Sleep keeps them out of the way while I direct other playables to electrocute themselves or stargaze, or something.  Who needs the whole family waking up for that?

to honest the need coming 'cause i play alot with uni. and with "noUniProtect" sometime the dormies fall to sleep in the middle of the road, and i need to wake up 'em before they die for hungry, and this just an example  ::)

You could try removing nouniprotect if the idea of dead dormies is somehow offensive to you.

There you go, stating the obvious again. :)

I think you are confusing what the hack is supposed to do.  It is not necessarily supposed to make the sim world "realistic", but to ensure that dormies need sleep and food (like the playables).  This seems to cause exactly the behaviours that you find problematic (i.e. sims collapsing from exhaustion and dying because they were too stupid to eat).

The hack is also supposed to allow dormies to get sick and die of illness (note that the name of the mod is nouniprotect.  This means that dormies are no longer protected from dying in interesting and amusing ways.  You obviously do not want the dormies to die.  Take out the mod and these problems will go away for you.

Someone else somewhere else suggested putting a stereo outside to wake the sleepers, as well. I dunno. Don't use nouniprotect.

Yeah, I think they suggested it to me, since I remarked that I had rescued a dormie who was about to die after collapsing (I had some nefarious plans for her, I think, and didn't need her dead before that).  I just thought that this OP would not think that stereos outside would be a "realistic" enough solution for him/her.  The OP seems to think that this mod will make dormies behave realistically, as opposed to amusingly.

It takes true skill to do that!  ;)  Comes from being a high school teacher and needing to point out the bleeding obvious on a daily basis.

It was Ness who suggested that to me.  I recall that now.  Long live Ness?

Erm...  was that me?  I thought it was jsalemi's suggestion.

Have I mentioned that I have an excellent forgetory?

My forgetory is quite well developed as well - it's state of the art wipeable.  Perhaps it was jsalemi, but I had a visual of a cheese inclusive (or is that exclusive) avatar.  Anyway, cheers to jsalemi, just in case.  Don't have the energy right now to go looking at past posts.

So, the official verdict is as follows:

No, I'm not going to create anything like this. I simply see no reason to create a "fix" for a "problem" which you created by installing exactly the item which permits this behavior in the first place. If you don't want your dormies passing out in pools of their own piss and dying, you don't want no uni protect, period. Me, I think this is hilarious, and better that it happens to dormies than my sims. Besides, the university needs zombies, keeps people on their toes.

For what it's worth....I usually put a stereo near the portals on a Uni lot, because although I don't mind dormies passing out all over the place, I *do* mind them passing out where they are blocking access to the portals, thus preventing my playables from getting to class/exams.

I put speakers outside to keep comatose dormies from blocking portals.

The other thing I find useful with nouniprotect is to set up a bedroom behind an ordinary door, with single beds for the dormies.  For some reason my dormies don't seem to recognise they have beds behind their claimed Myne doors.  I don't put double beds in this "dormie sleeping room", as I also have ACR, and a double bed there would turn the sleeping room into a woohoo room instead.

An alternate solution is to replace the dormies' Myne doors with regular doors, then they can access their existing beds.  Add another small room for all the Myne doors to open into, so that you still get dormies on the lot.

I like satellites - gets rid of the blockages at the portals, gives Grim something to do while he waits for some of my Gen 1 sims to get through the elder period, and adds a few clams to the playables' wallets.

And you can always bring the deceased back later as a zombie.  I see no losers in this scenario.

You can also use TJ's hack that makes the dormies move from the portal to the mailbox (found here http://box156.bluehost.com/~aestudi1/forums/inteenimater/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=22) .  It keeps passed-out dormies from blocking the entrance/exit to the lots.
