College Move Out

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Can anyone confirm the existence of this as a bug: College student calls "Move Back To Neighborhood", picks up phone, dials, hangs up, nothing happens: No dialog, no message. If this can be confirmed as a widespread bug, I've worked out a fix for this. It is somewhat of a mystery why it happens, though.

Yes, it's connected somehow to the cell phone - if the sim has a cell phone, this ritual happens quite a lot, not only in "move out", but many other callings.
In this case, I order him to call through the cell phone, and the "adult animation" appears. Same in the other occasions.

As I already posted in another topic, I had this happen.  Posting information about it in this topic, in case one little piece of this is relevant.

The student in question (a former dormie, made playable) was in residential housing before I installed Pets.  She didn't finish college until after I installed Pets.  She was the only one residing at the lot at the time.  Her fiancee, Dirk Dreamer, had invited her to move in, and had graduated before I installed Pets.

I tried "nuke stuck moveout" on the lot debugger - it said it nuked one stuck move out, but did not fix the problem.  Option then disappeared from the lot debugger.

She had a cellphone, but I was using the fixed phone to move out.  I never use cell phones for anything other than socialising.

I ended up moving her out on the neighbourhood screen, then moving her back in to the same lot.  She was then able to graduate.  I assumed that since this fixed it, that the installation of Pets had somehow buggered up the uni features of the lot.

All my hacks were updated for Pets at the time.  When I was trying to fix this I quit the game, and reupdated my hacks in case any had become out of date.

I just had this happen last night.  I have three dorms, and this was the third dorm.  Students moved back ok in the other two, but I couldn't get anyone to call/moveout in the third dorm.

I tried the stuck moveout on the lot debugger, and it said it fixed 3 objects, but they still couldn't call.  I checked here, and there was a brand new (11/17) version of the phonehack in the director's cut, so I downloaded it.  When I went to exit the game prior to installing the hack, I got the "Application will now terminate" message and crashed to desktop.

I put in the new phonehack - nothing else - went back into the dorm, and they were able to call and move out.  So my guess is it was something you changed in the last phonehack update that fixed it.  Either that, or just exiting and restarting reset something.

I had a variation of this last night (first time I had someone graduate since installing Petz). Four sims in a greek house, two graduate on the same day.  He can move out fine, but when she calls to move out, the game crashes to the desktop about 1/2-way through her call.  Doesn't matter if she calls from her cell or from the house phone.  I even tried deleting her, saving and reloading, and that didn't fix it.

So I started thinking about what changed about her, and remembered she bought a new custom shirt during that semester and was wearing it.  Had her change to a different shirt, and she was able to move out just fine.  Not sure why this happened -- maybe the mesh of the shirt was causing a problem with the game's choose-clothing routines, or maybe even with the clothing tool.  IAC, I got her out finally.  Oh, and I did use the lot debugger to nuke the stuck moveouts before moving them out.

Two thoughts:

1) The flaky cell phone recolor.
2) The dressastop mesh.

I've moved out 2 or 3 Sims from rental housing, not dorms, since getting Pets.  No problems, but I don't think they had custom clothes on either.  (I also don't have the dressastop mesh.)

Well, I *KNOW* what causes the problem I've encountered, but the previous symptoms don't match. I was looking for people who have EXACTLY that problem, not similar but unrelated issues.

I had #1 when I first got pets, but got rid of the cell phone meshes.  Not sure what #2 is -- it's not all custom clothes, just some.  The top she switched to was still custom, but no problems.

I've not seen that exact problem, but I've only had these two graduate so far since pets. It does seem like it takes much longer for the taxi to arrive than it did before though.  Long enough now for the sim to start wandering off to do something else and be half-way across the building when it arrives.

Once again, not the exact problem I was referring to as above. I'm not looking for a general class of problems, I'm looking for anyone else who can report that exact problem. I'm tempted to start banning people who can't seem to pay attention. Giving the place a proper weed-out is starting to sound like a better idea every day.

I have had exactly that problem happen. However, I have a very old game (base, Uni, and NL)--the occurrence obviously wasn't related to the new EP, so I'm not sure it's germane. For what it's worth: three of my students graduated, the first called (on a land-line-type phone) to move back to the neighbourhood. The option to "Move" came up, but after apparently making the request, she hung up, and...nothing further happened. No cab, nothing. Tried another student, but the move was stuck. I debugged, first with the lot debugger, then the phone specifically, then the individual students. Nothing helped, beyond allowing a different student to generate the same error, and the aborted scenario repeated ad infinitum. Since they had graduated, I didn't have the option to move them out into the bin. I finally called the graduated students back to the base neighbourhood using Inge's teleporter shrub, moved them into the house, moved out the rest of the uni household from the overview screen and bulldozed the lot.

Sheesh, Pesc, I am paying attention -- just trying to help and report what might be another symptom.  Sorry...

The key point is whether you received a dialog asking if you wanted to move. If you received the dialog, this is one of the conventional stuck move-outs. Pre-Pets conditions are similarly unrelated, this error was isolated as being an apparent artifact of the new phone system.

If I experienced a conventional "move out" bug perhaps the data will be useful for differentiation purposes, because the symptoms are the same, albeit the causation is apparently different.

I clicked on the phone, the menu came up. I clicked on the "move home" option. The call was initiated but never completed. No dialogues, pop-ups or other notices. However, after it failed the sim was unable to interact except as a visitor despite remaining selectable.

I am planning to graduate a few kids from college tonight. I have three in Pleasantview who have been nearly ready to graduate since before Pets and I have two in one of my own neighborhoods who started college only after I installed Pets. If you haven't received any confirmations of your bug by the time I get them graduated (it won't be for a few hours as we are about to have our faux Thanksgiving dinner) I will come back and let you know if I get that exact problem.

I have even written the problem down so I will remember to recognize it if it happens. Smiley

I promise that if I have a similar but not the same problem then I will not tell you about it. Wink

Well, I had three students who were going to move out in that one dorm, and with each one they picked up the (landline) phone, dialed, and hung up. No dialog box, nothing.  And I don't have any custom meshes for anything in my game.

But it was only the one dorm.  The other two had worked fine.  And I have the dreaded Pets, and this one dorm was the only one with this problem.  When it happened, I remembered reading some threads here about the same problem, so I came back and re-read those threads, then tried the stuck move-out, but it didn't work.  I thought maybe I should check for more recent updates for the hacks I have, so I downloaded the director's cut and found that the phone hack had been updated since the one I got a week ago when I got Pets.  And it was the only hack that was newer.

That's why I thought you must have fixed whatever the problem was.  They were able to call and move out after I put in the new phone hack.

I don't think I have anything on this one lot that isn't on the other two, either.  All three are the same dorm - the six room one.

Well, if someone can replicate the problem exactly as above, AFTER you verify that it's occurring, try installing the fix in test and see if it magically goes away.

Are you saying that it happens in every dorm/residence with every sim that's supposed to move out, or just that it happens on any college lot?

Need to know this if it happens again.

I had the EXACT same bug happen to me. I can confirm that the fix posted in the test section 'magically' fixed it.

This is probably a totally unrelated issue, but right before the stuck moveout, another sim in the house got invited on an outing. It was the first outing I accepted since installing pets. When the taxi dialog popped up, it was for a different sim than the one who got the original phone call.  I went ahead and sent her downtown anyway. The sim who did the inviting did not show up.

I just got back into a hood with college kids graduating.

Had one girl call to move back to the hood.  She picked up the phone, dialed, hung up.  Had her try a second time, same thing.  Quit game, came and got the test fix and put it in.  This time, she completed the call without a problem.  Second girl in same dorm was also able to move back home after putting in the fix.

There were no other taxi calls involved at the time.  The first girl had just returned from her final, the second I had let sleep awhile before having her make her call.

Hope this helps you, JM.  It helped me!
