What's the best stories you've read?
« on: 2005 August 30, 13:56:30 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Until recently I didn't do much with the ea bbs exchange.  I thought, 34,000 stories, who has time to search and read them all??  Also, until recently, I was on a dialup, so I didnt want to take the time.

Reggikko posted a while back a link to her webpage, I was bored so I took a look at it.  I was hooked.  If you haven't seen it, go read it.  It also showed me that there were good stories on the exchange.  A few I read were pretty good, but most seemed to just rehash the same ole thing.

The best i've read was a legacy story from jfed142.  It covers a legacy challenge entry from start to finish.

So, i'm going to ask you guys and gals, what are the best stories and creators that you have seen on the exchange?  Can you provide a link to the authors webpage?

You're right, this is a great story, the humour is excellent.  I've just read through the first 3 chapters and will read the rest later (need the loo, lol).  I was a bit confused, though.  I know Meadow's a teen anyway, but I thought Legacy rules allowed marriage to either townies or NPC's, not just the latter.  I've read quite a few good ones, but don't usually remember to mark the pages.  There was one I was following that I did have a shortcut to, but I finally deleted it recently because it hadn't been updated in several months.  It's a bit annoying when people start stories and go at it hammer & tongs, then lose interest and leave it hanging.  That happens quite a bit.  Anyway, thanks for the link to this story.

I know Meadow's a teen anyway, but I thought Legacy rules allowed marriage to either townies or NPC's, not just the latter.

I think this is because Uni had not yet come out, and she would've needed the TestingCheats enabled to move Meadow in, and that, of course, isn't allowed by the Legacy rules. The whole story took about 8 months for Jfed to tell, I think.

EDIT: Forgot I was going to talk about stories. I like Jfed's (obviously, since I've read them all, and that's a real commitment, since they're freakin' long). I find, though, that I stop reading any given story if people don't have a firm enough grasp of grammar or if it goes too melodramatic. So I don't have many favorite stories. I did enjoy SimSirenSix's stories, although I don't think she's done a whole lot since the early days of the game.

The reason I think Jfed chose to use NPC's is for the reason that NPC's in the bloodline give you points towards the final score and townies do not.  She/he wanted to get the most points he/she could.

well I have to be slightly egotisctal my stories are the best.  which if you want to check them out just do a search of sasha7617.
I have read a few that I have liked a lot all of them are bookmarked on my page and check regularly for updates, but the names have slipped my memory.

The one that reggiko (hope i didn't missspell) no wusses challenge is really good.  I have heard her legacy story is really good too, I haven't had a chance to read it yet but I will.

I just wish I could tell my stories exactly the way I want to w/o worring about someone freaking out and they get kicked.  I have some more adult oriented stories that I have posted on other places than reedited and put up on the exchange.  I don't think a lil kid need to see the nice lil toys I have acquired.

I loved Reggiko's stories, well told and hilarious.

Though there's only one chapter up so far, turtlechow64 has found a rather unique way to tell her Legacy story and I really enjoyed it.

I usually check to see if a 'whole story' is there before reading though, I don't want to have to keep track of SimPages...

I've just started writing stories, so I have been reading a few as well, because my interest was piqued. Most of them are dreadful ( maybe it's because I'm an English Professor, but I was seriously offended by how pathetic a random sampling was). Anyway, reggikko's are fantastic. I laughed like anything. Here's the link to reggikko's page: http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/uploads.php?user_id=1132625&asset_type=story

Of course, I also really like my stories. They aren't legacy ones, though; they're coming from my version of the Kingdom Challenge. http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/mysimpage.php?user_id=797212

It's not just you. Internet writing is generally a cesspool. There's some good stuff, but it's mostly terrible. No editors, is the problem.

there is a story album editor on the mts2 think it is under tools.  but it has it problems you have to upload it to the exchange first. then go into the editor and fix it.  then go back in game and upload the fix version into the exchange.  even though it seems like it takes forever it only takes the time it takes for your game to load.  you can mess with pictures and change stuff and everything in there it is a real cool program.

Shamelessly I do not use it enough.  I tend to wait until my husband tells me about my mistakes to go in to refix them.  It has always been very hard for me to edit my own material.  I had a huge paper I had to write for a class that was 95% of my grade and you were allowed no mistakes.  I think fifteen people edited that for me.   Grin

I don't read stories except the tutorial stories. I just don't have the patience to wade through the gazillion stories to find good ones but I will definatly try the ones recommended here. Thanks Smiley

I've been reading some of the recommended ones - they are so much better than the ordinary 5-star dreck. I have read a bunch of Legacy stories and I have noticed that they are all quite same-y. Not having played the Legacy challenge myself (all that marrying NPCs and townies is a total turn-off), I have to ask - is the Legacy challenge fun? It seems like it could be quite, quite dull.

Now how come I knew that JM?  Cheesy
I also read Reg's stories and I love them; they had me in stitches (so to speak). I also like Baratron's story, I wonder if it's being continued yet. I haven't had much time to read anything lately, but I'm sure going to try the links.

I have an adult Sims story, For the Love of Romance you might be interested in.  It's not porn, it's erotic yet kind of suitable for a forum.  I have it posted in my forum and another one, let me know if it would be OK to post it in here.  You might like it  It's about a romance sim and a rock band, it's alot of fun and had quite a lot of guys following the story.

BTW, this is a typed out story, not one from the storymaker in the game.  I have pics too that go with it although they have not been posted, but it's way too long to fit in the storymaker.  It's a small book lol  But very easy reading, very short chapters.  It was written for a forum in mind.

Rohina, I found playing the regular Legacy challenge to be dull as ditchwater after a couple of generations. There was some amount of excitement at first, hoping my poor founding sim could actually get along with anyone long enough to marry them, and get enough money for more than furniture on the lawn, but about the time the first kid came along neither was a problem anymore. It doesn't help that my sims all manage to lead charmed lives unless I force disaster upon them, even with free will on. Having three generations of sims in a house (grandparents, parents, and kids) was tedious, not difficult. I ditched mine at gen 4, only stopping long enough to extract the long-dead founding sim, who was quite lovely, and her great-grandchildren, my first twins born in-game.

Now I just manipulate my sims like the little pixel dollies they are.  Grin

Oddysey, it isn't just the no editors that's the problem, it's that most of the people who write stuff online don't have skill, either. To paraphrase someone or another, there isn't any idea sufficiently brilliant that it can't be ruined by a ham-handed writer...

See, this is what I thought; there is a lot of stress about money at the beginning, but you would have to be a really poor player for it to continue into the third generation. I like the challenges involving more than one house much more because the interaction between families can make for fun stories. The best one-house challenge I have seen is the batchelor/batchelorette one. I played it a few times because it was just so damn funny, and it only takes 7 sim days.

Well, I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and create a couple of rather silly stories.  The first features my one and only uploaded Sim, the second is about the death of Cassandra Goth.  Technically they're probably terrible, but at least I tried.  The  Cassandra one actually has 4 stars, so I suppose it can't be that bad.  The other only has 2 (sob).  Oh, and if anyone knows how I can edit them, please let me know.  I found a typo in one and it's annoying me beyond belief, not to mention the fact that I only found out when I made the second that I could choose my own title.

Here's the link for the batchelor/batchelorette challenge.
http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?&openItemID=&threadID=031a419c4f27c583acce60268b0a3626&directoryID=22&startRow=1#5280cd68b75d4c5c7eb74c4675171fa9

I've played it a few times, and it is always totally hilarious. I did modify the rules somewhat; basically, during the "dates" I try to give my sims some time to initiate their own interactions, and I fiddled a bit with the required interactions. I should post my modifications, I guess.

I just started writing a story based on the challenge; the first episode is nearly done.
