1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The Firefighters Won't Come! on: 2006 March 12, 01:56:11
That's exactly why the firefighets won't come. I had a s imilar situation where my sim would not return from work becasue the maid and gardner had gotten stuck. You can try to "dismiss" both the maid and gardner, or moveobjects to move the cars out of the way. Carful with moveobjects though.
Oh, if you have Uni I would buy the sprinkler instead. May be more of a hassel afterwards, but it puts out the fire for sure (without having to worry about portal blockades).

I know Maxis moved in with EA a year(ish) ago. I'll try the EA HQ number during biz hours.
Thanks!

I did a stupid thing and preorderd for EA. I had a $15 discount cupon and figured it was worth a day or two extra wait for a slow EA.
Needless to say it has almost been a week since releace, and three months since I preorderd the game and EA still says "Orderd".
To add salt on the wonds, their customer service SUCKS. No public phone numbers (none on their site at least) just some stupid text help crap that does not do anything. I'm close to driving up to Redwood City (5 or 6hrs from LA) and giving some poor secratary a piece of my mind.
It's not even the game I want so bad as it is the anger from shitty service I have gotten.
If there is a problem, delay, mishap, idiot employee breaking my game, anything, I want to know about it!
I want a place where I can talk to someone who speacks fluent english and is at the very least educated about EA. I would prefer that job stay in the States, but I can deal with it not being here so long as the people who I talk to KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.
I'm getting to angry over this. Last time I buy from EA directly.

Dailygardner should not longer be needed with the invention of HydroBot. But I will miss the phone hack...
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OBF Prima Guide tip download on: 2006 March 01, 01:28:34
I think the prima guide is such a rip-off.  Bad enough to pay 50$ for an expansion (almost as much as the actual game), but you have to pay for a instruction manual as well?  Forgetaboutit.  I do have the University Prima guide, but only because it came with my expansion.

I was checking out the sample. (Thank Ziggy!).  It came as no real suprise that we can yet again to attach another neighbourdhood.  This time it's called the "Shopping District"  No doubt it will be accompanied by the usual bloat of maxis-character.  Blah.  Like any of us need more characters files.  It does seem optional however.  I probably won't add it to my main 'hood and simply check it out in an different neighbourdhood to avoid bloat.
All the extension hoods are optional. Allways have been.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: We have Rape/impregnation, Necrophilia, and STDs. whats next for the expansi on: 2006 February 15, 07:16:44
HAHAHAHA I enjoyed the NSA link.

Ok, things to tackle:

Let's start with furries shall we?
Personally I have no problems with anyone who wished to partake in this activity. If you would like to have sex as Winnih the Pooh be my guest. Leave me out of it and I won't bother you. I don't find it morally wrong, nor will I judge, but don't bug me with your sex fetishes I'll stick to my own thank you.
Furries do however take lot's of crap. JM's chart is pretty good actually. Anyway, nothing is really wrong with it and I would advise that no matter how sick it makes you think, it is actually natural and a part of the human brain. Ergo God (Should he/she/it exist) DID in fact INTENED for people to want to be this way.
Besides, I'm sure each and every one of you here has their own sexual ideas and fantacy that others may find odd/strange/bad/godless/whathaveyou. (This is just begging for a larger disscussion on the role of sex in the United States, but I won't go much further).

Chilren scared by Aliens or whatnot:
Please. I've seen cartoons for 5 year olds with more dark themes and characters than TS2. A 9 year old would either find that aspect of The Sims boring or exciting. Not scary (unless they are some sort of sheilded ignorant child of overbearing parents who want their kid to live in a bubble). Buttsex? Diving too deep (no pun intended). Undead zombies as sexual fetish? WTF? No. STDs from Vampires? Someone needs to relearn the definition of SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES. Last time I checked, neck biting was not sex. Foreplay perhaps, but not sex. Want to go down the AIDS/HIV saliva blood aspet? Last time I checked your sims don't bleed, nor can they transmit a fatal disease via Woohoo or by kissing.

Anyway, I really liked that idea of the wacky characters as overdramatizations of real life. I'll keep that. Then, for anyway who is too young or does not want to accept that: the characters are just there to be wacky and make it more of a game than a reality.

7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question About Getting Downloaded MP3's to play in-game on: 2005 October 23, 19:07:13
I can't speak for Napster, but the way iTunes Music Store does it is this:
Each file downloaded is a special type of standard music file, where it is locked to certain things. For example, if I were to send my music files that I bought (Via the internet) to a buddy, then would not be able to play it because it is "locked"
That may have something to do with it.

I personally have never added my own music, I like the Sims's taste Smiley

I like Firefox overall, but I find it seems to use ridiculous amounts of my CPU when I have certain sites open. The Sims 2 BBS is a good example, Gamespot is another. If I have one of those sites open, Firefox will use around 60% or more of my CPU, which is a little annoying when I'm trying to play a game.
Agreed Firefox uses more of the system, a hit I'm willing to take. Although, I don't have nay broswers open when I play anyway. Just sucks of memeory regardless.
Umm, isn't AOL like, The Internet?  Shocked
Thought you were serious for a sec...

IMO, FireFox is just more stable than IE. Easier to use and is open source which makes it a huge hit with techies and hackers (thus making it less likely to be attacked by said techies/hacker). Secure, free, TABS!, RSS...what's not to love?

It has tabs and oodles and oodles of cool extensions such as a spell checker, search inlets, etc without spyware. Although it sucks at playing music. It'll always say I'm missiing the quicktime plugin when quicktime is installed.

Yes, Yes, Yes, iTunes

A Trade Mark (TM) has to be registered with your countries local registry office. Example, McDonalds has trademarked .

The slogan is theirs and can not legally be used by anyone else to promote their product. Same goes with the "M" arch logo. What I am still not sure about is the use outside of promotion. It is legal to use the logo and arch for satire, and there is nothing against using the logo in a book/movie/TV Show. (there is also the (R) for restricted use. Not sure on the details of this). What cannot be done is the Trade marking or Copyrighting of common things.
The "armory" for instance is a common word in the English language. The U.S. would never let you copyright it, or use it as a trademark.
If you were to say create a restaurant called "The Armory" then you could trademark the logo and copyright the artwork. (this is where I think the (R) comes in.) but you can't sue someone for writing "the armory". Just as you can't sue a rival restaurant with the same name so long as they bear no major similarities.
This is my understanding at least. Hope it's clear.

Edit: Yeah, that's not true... you can use "the name of the owner, an abbreviation by which the name can be recognized, or a generally accepted alternative designation of the owner." Furthermore, "Section 406 (a) begins with a statement that the use of the wrong name in the notice will not affect the validity or ownership of the copyright..."   ( I stand corrected)
