Title: Hey, where's my fish?
Post by: bimbelina on 2006 May 22, 01:31:08
None of my aquariums have fish anymore?  There's air bubbles, and the little sea chest opens & closes, the option to feed fish is there, but no fish.  My sims don't care - they act like there are fish there, but I don't see any fish.  What could I have done to break this?

Installed Open for Business. ;)

I think they're there in the Landgrabbe aquarium in my game.  Have you tried selling the aquarium and replacing it with a new one?

This seems to be a common problem that occurs after Open For Business is installed. However, I have not seen that anyone has figured out why it happens. It doesn't occur in all configurations;  the fish are still visible in my post-OFB game.

I suspect somehow it might have to do with graphic card specs, but I could be way off-base on this.

Well, I have no fish either (tried everything), and after viewing so many threads on it I have found only one thing that seems to be common - nVidia video cards, regardless of drivers, type, etc. At least that is what I have noticed. Perhaps if all fish seers and non-fishseers posted their make/model we might figure this out?

nVidia GeForce FX5500 256mb 8x AGP

Would a poll like this be easier?

Nvidia
()fish
()no fish

ATI
()fish
()no fish

If you want, you can make a real poll in The Podium.

Ok, good idea :)

I found my fish.  Apparently, OFB has decided that my video card isn't beefy enough to handle complexities of aquarium fish, and turned off shaders (whatever that is).  I added "boolprop useshaders true" to my userstartup.cheat file, and now I have fish again.  Seems to be a very common problem, mentioned several times in the non-awesome places (I was lucky enough to find the fix at one of them, though).

um I thought "useshaders true" was used to turn the pool water movement on and b/c my video card, an ATI 9200 isn't enough for that I keep it turned off, always have even b4 OFB.

I'm afraid if I use it on all the time, I will have more "blue screen of death".

Is it your card or your drivers?
