326  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Hey, where's my fish? on: 2006 May 22, 03:44:55
Well, I have no fish either (tried everything), and after viewing so many threads on it I have found only one thing that seems to be common - nVidia video cards, regardless of drivers, type, etc. At least that is what I have noticed. Perhaps if all fish seers and non-fishseers posted their make/model we might figure this out?

nVidia GeForce FX5500 256mb 8x AGP

Would a poll like this be easier?

nope it didnt. it shows random pics but nothing else.

Actually, it did break - which is why you get error logs stating that the error is the communitly lot populator (ie the townie generator v2.0). This is why this tutorial was put here in the first place. The 'random' pics are explained in the first post of this thread.

Yeah, but - moving OCCUPIED houses to the Lot Bin is a BAD, BAD thing to do!

Sorry - I'm guessing that you (Nec) know this, but the original poster (Rowla) specifically said she was a newbie to this kind of thing, so I'm feeling pretty leery of a suggestion that she should move her families into the Lot Bin.

I never suggested, moving sims in houses to the lot bin, Ness was wondering if it happened, if you read up a bit, I was curious, I tested it out to see what would happen. Ness never suggested it either. As a matter of fact, in the quote you quoted, Ness says it is a BAD thing, and I did not feel the need to repeat that it is a bad thing. Wink

Hehe, don't worry about it. It happens in real life too when I am in uniform. Tongue

Glad it is working out finally, and yes 98 files is the norm...in the other ones you have the pre-made students in the sim bin and the greek houses added to that.

So far I have been getting a new downtownie for every sim I add to downtown, and a new one whenever a new downtown lot is visited for the first time. I also have 2 paper delivery teens in the base hood, and a new one in downtown. So far the only adult townie made is the bartender. The rest are teens. This will be interesting to see what happens once there are 10 non-npc teens in each hood. I am at 7 total right now.

333  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Deleting, Creating, and Generating Townies OFB and pre-OFB on: 2006 May 16, 05:21:00
I think it works like this: on every load of a lot (residential or community) a townie is created, up to the apparently built-in limit of ca. 40 (4 teens, 4 kids, 2 elders, 30 adults). Downtownies are never spawned, but special townies (vampires, slobs, divas) are.

Ok, I did notice the one on the lot load, but I never made more than one lot for when I was figuring this out so I didn't know that it was one per lot. I wonder if it will create a downtownie for every downtown residential lot load? I make a lot of sims live downtown. Have you checked that? I will pay attention when I make my next custom hood.

Hey Nec,

i got silly after i made my new neighborhood - i forgot to click custom uni instead! (haven't done downtown yet!) i did the math and i should have around 50 characters in my main neighborhood including my new cutom townies. so is it safe to delete the rest of the files and the mistake uni subhood?

Also... in downtown and uni, how many custom townies would i need to create for each subhood? what's the minimum?

thanks Smiley

Did you check the date and time of file creation? That should tell you which are the new ones, and they will all have been created at the same time. Just sort by date.

If it was Sim State University you made, it creates 113 character files, Academie Le Tour makes 100, but I don't know about La Fiesta Tech. The thing is, you can't delete the uni hood you make until you make another one, and doing that will create an additional 50 character files. So if you do want to delete it, then make the new hood first, then delete it. Then go delete all the character files.

I have not found a minumum number as of yet. I usually make between 25 and 30 for each. I am going to be building a new custom hood soon, and post the results in my thread.
336  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Townie free new neighborhood & Deleteallcharacters on: 2006 May 15, 21:09:08
Something else to note from the first post - DAC deletes sims in the sim bin.  While I'm not sure that sims in lots in the lot bin will be deleted or not, I do know that is a BAD thing.

I realise that you've probably figured out what to do by checking other threads, but I really wanted to note that here.

Well, that got me curious so I checked just now, and DAC does not do anything to the sims in the lot bin.
337  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Deleting, Creating, and Generating Townies OFB and pre-OFB on: 2006 May 15, 20:46:32
Thank you so much, Nec, for your response.  I figured that I just didn't understand something, but I am a curious cat and always want to know why something doesn't work.    Maxis should have given players the option to choose whether or not they wanted townies, and how many.  Especially since they are not actually required for anything, as far as I know.

When I create a custom 'hood this way, do I have to create all of the townies?  I usually don't like to have any townies in the base 'hood, and only about 10 to 15 each in UNI and Downtown, for shoppers and dormmates.  I don't figure it matters how many I create, but I just thought I'd ask.  If the problem stems soley from deleting characters, not how many you create then it shouldn't make a difference, right?

You don't have to create all the townies, you can just create one at a time with the tree. I am not clear yet as to how many will generate on their own, or how many you have to have before they will stop regenerating. I have not tested this. Uni hoods are much different, and will generate new dormies for each dorm, though if you move a student out of a dorm and move another one in to any dorm, it will make use of the existing dormies as well as generate more if needed to fill up a dorm with more rooms than the previous. You can use noregen hacks to prevent this. I have never used them, so I can't tell you specifically which ones to use or how they work.
338  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Townie free new neighborhood & Deleteallcharacters on: 2006 May 15, 05:07:48
Yeah, I think I may change the title...which may help some since it works for all EPs, though apparently DAC is broken in OFB. I have never used it myself other than for testing purposes, I always delete character files from the folder instead. Good luck with your new hood, and welcome to MATY Grin
339  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Aspirations going screwy on: 2006 May 15, 04:20:19
DAC seems to not properly clean up dangling SWAFs, which results in want-weirdness later.

Really? I wonder if just deleting the character files does the same. That is my preference, and so far I have not noticed any weirdness in LTW - even in hoods I have had for a very long time. I never used DAC until the question about it not working came up, and I still don't use it for my own personal hoods. The only LTW weirdness I have noticed also effects the aspiration, and there again, it is only of NPCs that I have moved into my sims' homes, and there again, only if I change their aspiration with the orb....and they have to not be the selected sim. Then they simply revert back to their old aspiration and LTW if they have gone to sleep and awakened while not selected on the same sim day/night that they used the orb.

Did that make any sense at all? Tongue

The 7th thread down in the Peasantry section is a tutorial specifically for this.  Might search the site a bit before you start asking for help on something Wink

342  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Deleting, Creating, and Generating Townies in OFB *updated* on: 2006 May 14, 19:51:49
Can you just create a new neighborhood and add all of the sub 'hoods and then exit the game and delete the characters from the characters folder?  Or will that cause problems like using deleteallcharacters?  It seems to me that would save a lot of steps and if you are manualy deleting the townie files from the characters folder anyway, why can't you do it in just one go?  I'm probably missing something, but just thought I'd ask.

No, that will cause the same problem, which leads me to beleive that the problem is the number or character files deleted at once when it comes to custom hoods, and possibly with the Maxis pre-mades as well, since they have more character files than a new hood, though I am convinced that a lot of that has to do with the pre-arranged scenarios in various families (they are much different and cause errors with the same hacks that don't cause errors with the exact same setup, minus the pre-existing storyline). This is speculation, but it is the only thing that has made sense to me so far. One at a time seems to be the only way at this time. I am slowly working on creating a bunch of custom cc-free townies, as well as bug-free Maxis neighborhoods that are empty. This is taking a long time, however, as I am doing many other things at the same time Tongue

344  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Bathroom Controller: In Soviet Russia, Bathroom Uses You! on: 2006 May 14, 01:13:54
Thank you all for answering!! Yes, I found it was the Grand Trianon toilet causing this. I thought that I had taken them all out of the game, but then after you mentioned it I checked to find this toilet still in downloads.

Often I click quickly when I know where menu items are normally placed. The only problem the throw-up interaction caused was accidently giving that command instead of use toilet. But the bathroom controller would take over after that and take care of the sim's bathroom need. But it would waste a few minutes which are sometimes critical if the car pool is waiting. Plus who wants to see non-pregnant or non-sick sims do that? And if they were in 2nd trimester they usually have a fear of throwing up so a quick-clicking error would cause their aspiration to plummet.

Thanks again for helping me to narrow down this oddity.

Cool Smiley glad you got it figured out. Yes, the throwing up thing is not my favorite thing about the game.
345  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 13, 08:54:10
I agree, Targa's stairs make sim life much easier. No more complaining about someone else on the stairs - unless they get stupid and stand on them or hang out on them.
346  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 13, 06:52:41
I make all my lots based on what the sims I am moving in will be doing there. Most are one story, and I generally have one more bathroom than bedroom - especially since OFB ,since it starts every sim with a low bladder. I keep my hallways 2 squares wide, and keep  at least one 6x8 square area open somewhere in the house so they have room for pillow fights and kicky bag without complaining as often. Also, If I have a back door, I will fence off the back part of the house so no one tries to ring the bell on the back door, or ring the front bell, and then walk around to the back door, causing an annoying game of cat and mouse. Almost all of my residential lots are 2x3 and smaller, and I have very few complaining sims. I will post a link of one of my floorplans to give you an idea. I like functional houses more than anything.

OK, here is one, it is actually a test house, but the floorplan is great. Enclosing the kitchen/dining area would not be a problem for your sims.

Perhaps you have the toilet from the Grand Trianon Collection at MTS2? It looks like the expensive Maxis toilet, only it has no base. That has the option to throw up. The only other mod I know of that enables that is the one that was mentioned by Squinge, which is specifically for that.

The only reliable way I have found to do it is when your business is closed and your employees are there. Calling them in and taking care of that before opening seems to work the best.

I haven't had that happen yet, but I did get one that had a fear of being caught cheating by her dead husband - that was weird.
