*bows to El Presidente's wisdom*

I just want know how I can do it, so I can share with people who I know would want want them, or on my website, without uploading them to the Exchange or subjecting people to the Launcher.

I totally appreciate being leery of all the random newcomers, which despite my pathetic post count, I am not one of.  I have been happily lurking here since 2006.

Ur doin it rong.

If you go into the Saved Sims folder (or equivalent), it should be "Firstname_Lastname.sim" as the file name.

I do not doubt that in the least.  I don't have a Saved Sims folder, only a Saves folder and the only thing in the Saves folder is back ups of my game.

The things in my Library folder have long stupid numerical names and are saved as .package files.  Also, to ad to my bewilderment, the icon for them is same as the ones Sims 2 .package files, if you have SimPE (which I do).  I have checked every folder in there and no where is a .sim file.

It makes me wonder if I need to uninstall SimPE.

My Sims show up in a Library Folder.  Every sim I create is in there.

How do you tell what they are?  I have a Sim and a lot now and because they are numerically named, I cannot figure out which is which.  Do I need one of the new tools floating around to read it?

@tryclyn  thank you!  That explains so much!

@Emma  that's the first gazebo I've ever done that looked right.  I've been trying to do one and make it work since the game came out.

ChillyzGrrl, for someone who doesn't know Awesomespec, you did really well.

I might have picked up a few things without knowing it while I've been lurking over here.  You all do such wonderful houses!

@Alex  they look more natural on the sloped roof and don't take up any needed space.  I wasn't aware there was another way to do them.  I haven't played around with the bigger panels, though.  Just the smaller ones.  but there's enough on the roof that the family living there should get money back for greener living *g*

@jim actually, that was largely an accident, but it turned out well, I thought.  In retrospect, I should have put a couple of chairs on the wall opposite the desk, for people to sit.  I had originally placed a sculpture in the middle, but it made it look too cluttered.

@petalbrook thanks!  (I'm yoinking a handful of them, too, once I get to the computer I play on. *g*)

First time contributor here, though I've been stalking the 'House of Phail' threads for months now.

It's pretty tame.  I went overboard with the M&G gardening stuff and am not 100% happy with the upstairs.

Slideshow

I have all EPs and SPs.  This house was play tested by the Gavigan family (I have no clue what pack added them to the Sim Bin) and costs $108, 473.  I suspect it is not Awesomespec because I don't know what means.

6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New bug? Some NPC's missing from PhoneBook on: 2008 April 01, 04:07:26
I've had this same problem too, since installing Free Time, only not with new NPCs.  My troubles have been with Nannies, random townies, and more recently, a barista working in Downtown.

The barista is annoying because she called my Sim up for an outing and they fell in love on that outing.  A couple days later, I go to have him call her, and she's not in his phonebook.  I check to see if she's on the lot and she's not.  I have him try for days to call her, at all hours, to no avail.  She simply is not there.

If there's a fix for this bug, It'd love one.  You got to all the trouble of getting 2 sims to fall in love, they ought to be able to call each other, maintain friendships and fall in love.

This bug could be caused by one of two things, an actual Freetime bug, or my game files are screwed.

Here is what I've discovered so far.

A new sim in a new neighbourhood created to test Freetime through normal gameplay with some maty mods and three types of CC (face templates, default eye replacements and default skin replacements).  This sim met three npcs..The maid, the newspaper girl and the mail carrier girl.  He became friends with the newspaper girl when she dropped by.  She does not appear in the phonebook at all though, and neither does the Mail Girl.

The maid (Kaylynn Langerak if you're interested) is the only one that does appear.

I have tried pulling all maty mods - still the same.  So I renamed the TS2 folder within My Documents and let it generate a new one when I started the game again.  Still the same.  So, I need to know now if anybody else has the papergirl or mail carrier in their phonebooks since Freetime, because if you do I will probably have to reinstall all of it.  If you do have them in your phonebook could you check to see if any sims that have met them only since FT was installed has them also.

The interesting part is that the the 'Call Friends' option on a maty mod (phonehack?) includes the papergirl, so I know they are there somewhere.

ETA: changed mail carrier to newspaper girl

Well, then it sounds like your neighborhoods are hosed for some reason, and it may be time to write them off and start again from scratch...

Yes, I believe so, too.  Thank you for the help, though.  You were very kind to not only offer advice but stick with me like this.  Thanks for that!

Try it one more time, and this time only replace the contents of your neighborhoods once at a time.  IOW, let the game rebuild the files, and then only put back the contents from your saved N001 directory (Pleasantview).  Then load the game and check it.  Do the same for N002 (Strangetown), and so on.  Since since it won't make the custom directories, once you have the base neighborhoods back and working, just create dummy custom neighborhoods and add you originals back one at a time.

Make sure you don't overwrite the neighborhoodmanager.package file in the root Neighborhoods directory, though -- that's what usually becomes corrupted when neighborhoods disappear.

Actually, and I really hate saying this because you've been really nice and helpful, but I already tried that... about two hours ago.

The game refuses to acknoweldge Strangetown and one of the customed neighborhoods as being there at all.  And the other one is apparently causing the thing with Downtown showing up as a neighborhood.

9  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Neighborhoods are Missing on: 2006 August 01, 17:21:02
I had something similar happen (can't remember why now), and I recovered by renaming my 'The Sims 2' folder in My Docs, and loading the game and letting it rebuild the default neighborhoods.  Then I copied everything back to the new directories except for the 'neighborhoodmanager.package' file (or some similar name) found directly under the Neighborhoods folder.  That seemed to to the trick, and my neighborhoods were all fine after that.

Well, I tried this, since it's the only thing I have not tried.

However it did not work.

As soon as I put the contents of the re-named folder back into place and tried my game, it went back to show the same ting as last night (Pleasantview, Veronaville, one custmed neighborhood and Downtown).

I have come to the conclusion that something in the neighborhood files for Strangetown and the two customed neighborhoods I lost must be corrupted, as trying to readd them only recreates the problem.
10  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Neighborhoods are Missing on: 2006 August 01, 15:47:49
You renamed the entire "The Sims 2" folder? That doesn't mess  up your game any?
11  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Neighborhoods are Missing on: 2006 August 01, 15:39:27
Did you delete the groups.cache from the Sims folder before you put in your backups? I think that helps for a lot of things...

Yes, I did that, too.   Embarrassed
12  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My Neighborhoods are Missing on: 2006 August 01, 15:34:54
Did you uninstall an EP or Pack recently? When I uninstalled OFB I lost Veronaville and Strangetown. JM called me stupid for pulling a stupid and corrupting my files by uninstalling something.

I had to uninstall EVERYTHING and reinstall everything from scratch.

No, I haven't uninstalled anything.

I also haven't downloaded anyting new in about a month and since the last family I played was my Legacy family, I wasn't using cheats.

I'll be honest, this has me totally baffled.

13  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / My Neighborhoods are Missing on: 2006 August 01, 15:26:10
Something weird is going on with my game.

I played yesterday and everything was fine.  But today when I load it up, half my neighborhoods are missing.

Strangetown and two customed neighborhoods are gone.

Also, when I click the arrow on the Neighborhood selection screen, instead of showing more
neighborhoods, it gives me Downtown as an independant neighborhood to play.

I've looked in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods folder and all the neighborhoods are
there, but they aren't in my game.

Sadly, the last babckup I did was just before I installed Family Fun last month, and after it installed with no problems, I deleted the back up.

Upon advice from someone at the LegacyChallenge mailing list, I backed up the copies of all the neighborhoods in my Neighbohoods folder and deleted them, and then reset N001, N002, and N003.   This did restore Strangetown.

So then I copied the backed up versions back into my Neighborhoods folder, but when I restarted my game, it went back to showing Pleasantview, Veronaville, the one customed neighborhood and that strange independant Downtown.

I'm at a loss for what to do next or if anything can be done.  It's quite apparent that something in the folders I'd backe dup is corrupted because it refuses to read them, even after the reset was successful.

Is there anything else I should do or should I just reset again and start fresh with all-new everythings?
