Are you using an old save or starting fresh with a new neighborhood?  If you save a game with certain mods and reload that save after taking out the mods, it can lead to weird behavior, problems, and increased chance of BFBVFS.

The first time I started up I was playing an old save but I made sure not to open it up until I updated the essential mods such as Story Progression and Master Overwatch. This was when I had the weird mood bar occurrence.

The next time I fired the game up it was on fresh user files(renamed the Sims 3 document). So there was no CC, no old save games, and no mods. Yet, I still got the message mentioned earlier about unofficial game modifications. However, the mood bars went back to normal.

I'm guessing that the message and the mood bars are two separate issues.

The good news is that I have found what was screwing with the mood bars. It was this scribbling pad hack I downloaded.
The bad news is that I'm still getting that stupid message.

I pirated the game and first tried to play it with no mods and I got a message saying something about an unofficial modification may make the game unplayable. I goggled it and I was told that this may be because of a hack. But, at that time I had absolutely no hacks in my packages folder. So, I decided put in my updated hacks anyways and went ahead and pressed "continue" when the message popped up again.

The game started up normally. But when I finally got to my family I immediately noticed this weird glitch where the Sims mood bars are...darker. The icons with their pictures show a darker shade of green and the mood bars have the same odd discoloration. Is this something that came with the game?

I tried to play the game completely vanilla and I still got the same message


However, the bars/icons look normal. I'm guessing its either my save game or some bad CC.

I  don't have Awesome mod because it conflicts with aWT's slider hack. But I ended up just buying the Sleep Slave Double Bed (Around $3200) and it worked. I'll just use this as a temporary solution until EA finally fixes the glitch with a patch.
Is that the one that removes the slider limit?  Because that's included in Awesomemod.

I tried to use Awesomemod to remove the slider limit but when I did the sliders in the jaw tab would not work. However, if I used aWT's hack or Johna's hack it did.

2. Second, we have our dear old friend "Error Code 12." I originally made my entire game vanilla by restarting my user files because this was a big problem in my old game. I can play for fifteen minutes, attempt to save, and this message would show up instead. Then, it began to crash randomly. So I decided to start fresh.

If you are going to make bullets, such as putting 1. at the start of a sentence/paragraph, it is rather ridiculous to then write "For one" next to it, we already know it is point 1 because you put the number there.  Try searching a little, this problem has been discussed at length elsewhere with a number of possible problems.  I don't remember what was ultimately discussed as I don't have that problem so didn't pay that much attention, but it is there somewhere and might be more helpful.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind for the next time I use numbered bullets.

 I did a search and I found another thread about it on the BBS. Apparently, the "Well Rested" moodlet is causing the Sims' mood to dip. I figured there would at least be a hack around that corrects this but for now I'll just buy the most expensive bed.


That really depends on what else is running in your system and eating up RAM.  With 3 GB you're going to lose a fair bit in just the OS operations, then if you're running an anti-virus, that eats some more, plus the myriad of other stuff that gets loaded and runs in the background everytime you start the computer.  Some of these background tasks are not necessary to have start everytime, but they automatically set that way with the installer.  By not having them running usually just means that particular program may take a couple of extra seconds to open when you go to launch it.

I have 12 GB RAM installed and the little monitor that is running is showing current usage at a little under 3GB RAM, give or take a little bit as it fluctuates, and depending on how accurate it is.  That is without TS3 running, with the game running I have seen it jump to over 4 GB, even nudge 5 GB usage at times.  I am running Windows 7 64-Bit Professional edition, and if I go and kill some background tasks and alter the start-up menu, I can get the regular usage down to 2.5 GB or lower, something I need to do after updating some programs which have reset their background tasks to start everytime again.

It might be beneficial to shut down as many background tasks as possible when playing, if you're disconnected from the internet, you can shut down any anti-virus program that is running.

 Alright, I'll take a look at my background tasks the next time I start up my game.

Just to check, did you remove ALL of your mods and CC when you tried a vanilla game or did you leave some behind?

 Yes. I removed all of my user files, not just my CC. The game acted as if it was a fresh installation.

As far as I know, Error Code 12 is caused by insufficient RAM.  The game apparently uses a lot more of it while saving.  If you had 8 gigs like me, you wouldn't have this problem (ePeen waving, I know).  You've got stellar specs on your machine; I'm really quite surprised you haven't got more RAM.  As for issue #1, try getting an even more expensive bed costing at least $2800.  The cheaper ones are still considered Kewian-based.

  Yeah, I read about the RAM issue when I googled it. But surely 3GB would be enough, right? I mean, according to MTS2, I only need 2GB to have a comfortable gaming experience. The thing with buying more RAM is that it would also require that I buy Windows 7 64-bit as well as something to back up all my files to when I make the switch. I'm planning on upgrading my memory but its not going to be anytime soon, that's for sure.

  I'll try to get the ridiculously expensive beds the next time I open up the game. I would have to use cheats but its completely warranted in this case.

I have found, through t/e, that any hairs by Peggy have this effect of some of my sims.  I have only used the ones converted by Anubis that I got from MTS, but every time I add 1 to my mods folder, at least 1 usually happy, fulfilled sim's mood plummets into red and nothing raises it.  It doesn't effect every sim on the lot and I'm not enamored of any of those hairs to try and figured out why it is happening.  I just pull them and all my sims go back to normal. 

Check and see if you have any of these hair packages and get rid of them ASAP>
 
  Well, I was playing a completely vanilla game so the hair packages were definitely not the problem.

Okay, I have come across two errors ever since I installed Night Life Late Night (I keep calling this game Night Life without even noticing it  Cheesy).

I went to the official BBS and there were other people having the same problem. Some suggested that it was due to the patch and that it is the cheap beds that are triggering this. But, I tried buying more expensive beds (They are in the $1000 range) and my Sims's mood is STILL very red.

  After becoming frustrated with problem number 1, I tried to save and exit and I got the error. However, when I clicked Save As instead it did save successfully - something that would not have worked in my old game.

My first issue is not as horrible compared to the error code. I try to save to avoid the crashes in the first place and I can't even do that  Roll Eyes. As I mentioned before, both of these occured even in my completely vanilla game. Here are my specs:

 I want to try your suggestion Mootilda but my game isn't the most reliable(especially when it comes to my neighborhoods). The SimPe version sounds more appealing actually, I practically lived in that program a couple of months ago. Eh. Maybe once I get the patience I'll take a go at it.

  You spend all this time downloading all these wonderful beach lots only to go into the game and they refuse to be placed anywhere. You test hundreds of terrains that specifically state "BEACH LOTS!!!!!11111" and yet the only one that they agree with is freaking Maxis made Moon Islands. The empty beach lot templates place fine otherwise, but the ones with stuff actually built on it refuse to turn from that red square.
 
  Why is this? And is there any way I can fix this with that edit neighborhood cheat?

Is there a mod that makes Sims gain fun when they are writing? I don't know about you, but I actually get enjoyment out of writing stories and such. I already found one on MTS2 but the hack is outdated and causes the Sims to loose the ability to write at all.

If there isn't any other available, however, it would be nice if someone can make one. Wink

I'm pretty sure you don't HAVE to do the whole color wheel thing if you design new clothing, hair, or objects.

Even if you choose the blank pattern and pick white on the color wheel, all of the objects in the game still have their own texture.  Furthermore, there are areas on some objects where you CAN'T apply patterns or colors.  It's not unreasonable to assume that you could design entire objects, hairs, or clothes that use texture areas that can't be patterned or colored.  What you would have is something exactly like in TS2 where the player had no control over the color scheme in the game.  Granted, the color wheel interface would still be there, it just wouldn't DO anything.

  Maybe so...but the game only came out a few days ago, well, a few weeks if you want to count the leaked copies, and we already have custom skins, hacks, and textures. Are they perfect, no, but they are there. As much as I hate to sound like EA, I am sure if we give it some we will be able to have the wheel usable with custom objects. There has to be a way because Maxis can do it with their own. Just have to figure out their secret. Or the miracles of miracles will happen and they tell us Roll Eyes.

  In the very early days of the Sims 2 if you told someone we were going to have custom meshes and animations you will most likely get laughed out of the forum. There were a lot of near impossibles that we overcame in the Sims 2 and coming from my usual pessimistic self, I have hope that we can overcome the same quagmires(SAT word, go me!) in this game as well.

  Otherwise, you are allowed to throw pies at my face.

  Actually, I love the color wheel and feel it is one of the game's strong points. It makes it so much easier to have matching clothes without tons of recolors of the same outfit showing up. One thing that drove me crazy in the Sims 2 was having the same outfit with a whole bunch of colors clogging up the bins. I can match objects so they can have the same kind of wood and design effortlessly. I much prefer that then going through the whole process of loading up bodyshop or simpe, exporting the textures, making every color for every object I want to match(which is a process in itself clothes wise when you want to do it right or target specific areas), then importing it all back into the game. That's what, a 1-2 hour process for a 5-10 minute thing now in the Sims 3. 
 
  Also, I highly doubt the wheel will be the thing that will create the biggest obstacle when it comes to making different clothing and object meshes. All the color-wheel and style thing is is a recoloring tool. It is roughly your own in-game Photoshop without the technicalities. The CC I was really worried about was the skins and eyes but HP already came out with a set of skins. Yes, they are default but it is a start. I have yet to find someone who likes the original skins anyways.

   I also disagree when you say it limits uniqueness, if anything it makes it easier to make different looking outfits and objects because of all the design options. That's like saying all T-shirts are the same because they are the same style. If there is a rack of plain white Ts and there is a lone lime green snake skin one with zebra print sleeves and collar will it not stick out?

  Other than that, I miss the memories as well. I find myself looking around for the memories only to realize they are not there anymore...

  Note: Try not to beat me over the head for using the Sims Store, but I involuntarily got a thousand Sim points with my game and I want to use them. Also, this problem keeps me from downloading the free neighborhood as well.

  I have bought a legit copy of the game. I have been having this problem for a year now where the adobe flash player would not install on Internet Explorer 7. As a matter of fact, it is that problem that made me use Mozilla Firefox instead which had no problems with the flash player.

  I still have some programs that use the internet, like the EA download manager and Bearshare, to work. They use Internet Explorer whenever they prompt me to go install the flash player. Internet Explorer would not install the flash player so these programs will not work. How do I make these programs use Mozilla Firefox instead? I already made it my default browser.

Is there any reason why my game is taking forever to render things?

  Say I follow one of my Sims to work and then go back to the house. First, the house will remain blurry- like the other houses when you are far away from them- for a minute, and when I finally do get inside it takes forever for all the objects to get their textures back. In build and buy mode when I am using the color wheel tool, whenever I highlight an object it looses its texture. Yes, the texture gradually comes back in both cases but it is still annoying as hell.
 
  Also, everything has jagged edges. I read something about anti-alias? Would someone mind explaining that to me? 

  I am using the reloaded version if that has anything to do with it. I am going to see if these same problems exist when I get the legit copy of the game.

To the person who asked how did my Sim die right out of the blue: It was old age.
 I have a question. There has been an increasing amount of Sims that my Sim is besties with but does not know ANY of their traits. I can't use the "get to know" option anymore so that is out. Is there any other way to find out a Sim's trait? I am tired of all these question marks that appear for a Sim that is supposedly a close friend Tongue.

You have to "edit neighborhood" and go to the site ahead of time and set up the stuff you want to use.  I don't know if you can put the birthday cake there in advance, but I don't know why not.  My political gal had a want to through a campaign fundraiser, so she threw it at the art museum.  I went there in edit neighborhood mode and put up balloons, a bar, and a buffet table.  Didn't cost my gal anything.  When she got there it cost her $250 to "serve" the buffet table.  I couldn't determine that there are any bartenders, but people were able to make themselves drinks.  When they finished eating, they set the plates on the floor and they disappeared, so no mess.  It was highly successful.  She raised something like $35,000 in campaign contributions.

I think I may just leave the buffet and bar there in case I have other parties there in future.

OH, so that's how you do it. I just found the edit neighborhood tool so maybe that's why I couldn't figure it out. Thanks a lot Wink.

Oh no, I know how to throw parties at public places(I already threw 2). I just don't know how to decorate that public place for the party, you know, like balloons, a table to put the cake on, etc... A warning always comes up a hour before the party saying I should set up. That's what I don't get. Or maybe I am just reading too much into it.
  Also, the parties in Sim 3 seem to be easier to make great compared to the Sims 2.

Phyllis- My toddler did the same too. I also find the new "read to" interaction cute as well.
  -I already got my Sim to the top of the law enforcement career,International Super Spy. From that point on all you can get are raises. Somewhere down the middle of the career you have two different paths to take. I forgot what the other one was but I decided to have my Sim go the secret agent route. It was cool seeing her don a different disguise every time she went to work.
  
  -I also fulfilled my Sim's wish of being an accomplished writer. Right now she is earning over $10000 in royalty checks and I already completed two of the challenges in the writing skills' journal, only one more to go. Have to write twenty novels. Apparently I have 9 to go.

  - I had my Sim explore the catacombs in the graveyard. A message popped up telling me she got her ass kicked by bears and this is how she emerged:
  
 
  -My Sim went on a tour in the theater after getting a negative moodlet for staying in the the house for too long (Stir Crazy it was called). Only to emerge from the theater with another negative moodlet saying she was bored stiff and wishing they would shut up already. Story of my life.

  - Something annoying that just began to happen. When I go out into the neighborhood and come back to the house, first the house remains blurry for a bit after I am close to it, and second, all the objects inside gradually retain their textures. As said, this is very annoying.

  -A few pictures of my Sim, I don't think she looks *that* bad. Although for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get rid of the double chin.

Edit- Since someone mentioned it. I also hate it how you have to bring up the inventory to call a Sim. I find myself constantly clicking the Sim and looking for the call options. Why would they make it the way they did?

 It isn't just that hood. I have HP's combined neighborhood and it didn't work. I just made a brand new hood and it is still saying the same thing.
 You know, I didn't have these problems until I installed that cleaned up neighborhood template. But,  I just reinstalled so the cleaned up templates should be gone...right?

 Okay, let me explain more clearly. If you have clicked my link, you would see that the default Bon Voyage neighborhoods that came with the game, i.e Twikkii Island won't show up. One day I went to go add them and when I tried to do that the game claimed I already have them when in actuality, I didn't. Here's a picture:

  I know you can add back Pleasant View, Strange Town, and Veronaville by going to program files and copying/pasting the neighborhoods back into EA/Sims2/Neighborhoods. My question was if I can use the same technique for the BV neighborhoods as well.

  ...and I wanted to know if there is a way to manually add them. Can I copy the ones in the program files and paste them in my neighborhood folder? I know it works for default neighborhoods but I wonder if it can work for BV neighborhoods as well.
