226  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Switching Computers for the Sims 2 on: 2009 April 16, 05:38:24
Oh, so your bro does not have TS2 installed?  Personally, I have installed everything without running between installs.  I patched between every EP/SP installation.  I dropped the appropriate copied folders (from game on different compie) into the installed game.  I downloaded a no-cd crack for my current EP and followed jolrei's instructions (in the securom thread and also in another thread that is current) to point the shortcut to the no-cd exe..  Voila, no securom.  It does not matter if your copied files come from a securom-infested machine, as long as the install and subsequent running from a no-cd crack comes on a non-securom infested machine.  OK, that sounded odd, but you get my drift.
227  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Switching Computers for the Sims 2 on: 2009 April 16, 05:08:02
Just do not "merge" the folders, as expressed in another thread.  I found, in moving my game, that all I needed was a copy of my downloads folder, a copy of my hood that I wanted (custom), and a copy of the lot catalog (for any saved lots/sims in the bin that you like).
If you have hoods that you play, say for instance, Pleasantview, that you want intact during the move, note that it will replace and over-ride the existing Pleasantview on your brother's set-up.  If it is a custom hood, or hoods, then just drop the folder into the existing neighborhood folder, no replacing neccesary.  Do not just merge the files, replace one with the other.  If there is a way to maintain separateness of game-generated hoods, I am not aware of it.  Any camera tweaks, you will have to redownload and replace.  Same goes for Numenor's recolor thingiemabob, if your brother does not aleady have it.  If you have music files, or other craptastic modifications...someone else will have to answer those questions.  But to get your CC, your hood, and any lots/sims you can not live without...this is the way to do it.
228  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help a non-awesome person figure out how to work the M&G crack on: 2009 April 16, 03:44:45
Not an idiot.  It is all a learning process.  Malwarebytes.org...their free trial version is so sensitive, it will pick up the dialers in TS2 as heuristic dialers.  Which is to say, leave those alone and do not play while online Smiley.  I am almost positive that is what I used when Zone Alarm did not pick up shit and my old compie was riddled with trojans.  Would have to fire up the old bitch to make sure.  And yes, she is virus-free to date.  SUPERAntispyware is also a very keen free program.
Honestly, that does not look like any installer I've ever seen, pirated or not.  Nothing should ever ask for your e-mail or location.  Just a language preference, if applicable.
229  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help a non-awesome person figure out how to work the M&G crack on: 2009 April 16, 03:11:24
That's the thing. It doesn't give me a choice. It just asks me to enter an email address and click next. There are no other options.

This is the malarkey I get:
I don't think you have an M&G installer. In fact, I don't think you have an M&G at all. I think you have picked up a trojan.

I second this.

Bah, server interruption...*shakes fist* forcing me to rewrite my post.

A quick google reveals that CI errors are produced when files can not be indexed (made available for quick viewing/finding), for various reasons.  These errors are sometimes linked to System Restore.  Without an Event ID, there is not much to go on.  If you feel like delving into it, google your EXACT error(s) and wade through the various tech forums.  You are not the first person to have this problem.  And, just a quick google with nothing really to go on turned up solutions and a metric crap-ton of information.  Your problem might very well have nothing to do with your new card or the game.

Also, yes, you can turn off your catalog indexing.  Go forth and Google.
231  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: What am I doing wrong? I really borked it and I'm desperate! :^( on: 2009 April 15, 14:52:02
Just follow jolrei's advice on culling your downloads.  If in doubt, back it up.
Have you taken a look at your event logs?  That is how I knew my brand-new harddrive was about to asplode.  Check out your Event Viewer to see what errors or warnings you might be getting.  With that much CC, you can bet some is outdated, conflicting, or just plain choking your system to death.  And you are right, the card could be bad.
Keep plugging away.  You'll eventually get to the bottom of it.
232  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: [FIX] "Polished Bamboo Light" floor on: 2009 April 01, 14:38:31
Baaaaa.  Because I liked the floor.  And it was, indeed, the floor that was ruining the environment score.
233  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: TSR Privacy Violation on: 2009 March 31, 18:54:43
My brain hurts.
234  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment Score...Tanked on: 2009 March 31, 17:51:49
Sims have long hated the pool.  No matter what is done to the pool...lights, walls, floors, they hate it.  I have just accepted this.  But the house?  I am going to kick myself if I bulldozed the lot because of some stupid flooring.  And then laugh.  I will laugh.  Silly snowbawl, don't you know that light bamboo is teh evil?
235  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment Score...Tanked on: 2009 March 31, 16:27:48
Dude, where did that come from?  Whose story is that?
Freaky.
236  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Environment Score...Tanked on: 2009 March 31, 16:06:32
Um, I believe that is exactly the floor I am using.  At least, I know that I am using a light wood, and did in both houses.  Hmmm.  Is it recycled from trash and the ashes of burned ramen, I wonder?  It did not occur to me to change the flooring.  And why would it occur to me?  I will try this.
237  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Environment Score...Tanked on: 2009 March 31, 15:38:41
I have good taste.  I decorate things nicely.  Rooms are neither gaudy nor sparse.  So why is it that I had ONE room in a house that nobody liked?  No matter what I did; colors, objects, lighting...the environment score immediately plummeted in this room until sims were crying out for instant clean-up on aisle twelve.  Fine.  I bulldozed the lot.  Yes, that is how much it bothered me.  I built a new house.  It was very pretty, modernish with a hint of the Orient.  Took me all day.  Moved my sims into their new digs and lo and behold...they hate a room.  A different room; different size, different shape, different decor...DIFFERENT!  Now I am starting to think that perhaps the lot is actually an Ancient Burial Ground of some sort, and my sims can sense the ominous spirits of the dead beneath the floor of that one particular room.  How else can I explain the red enviroment score?  Can anyone explain?

(I tried to read Gali's "Sims can see colors" thread, but did not get past the first page...if the answer is contained within that thread, just let me know and I'll suffer through it).

This seems so simple.  Everyone knows that lighting and objects, even windows affect enviroment score.  But what could be causing this?  To note, there are no invisible objects stuck on the lot, no hidden trash...nothing.  The lot was clean when I bulldozed it and clean when I rebuilt.  What gives?
238  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I had to do a whole new install and now the game wont load past the full screen on: 2009 March 26, 02:53:18
Awww.  I've been sitting here waiting.  So either the re-installation worked and funny lemon has no use for us anymore.  Or, maybe its drive asploded.
239  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I had to do a whole new install and now the game wont load past the full screen on: 2009 March 24, 21:36:46
gamecopyworld.  The site is a no-brainer, which you need.  ALL you need is a no-cd for M&G.

The no-cd crack will generally have the same name as your original Sims2EPx.exe file (whatever number your latest EP is (or in this case, SP that acts like an EP)).

Save your no-cd crack in the TSBin folder of your M&G directory (where the original M&G.exe file is) as something like Sims2EPx-nocd.exe.

Right-click on your Sims 2 M&G shortcut on your desktop and click on properties.  Make sure your shortcut points to the no-cd .exe file (i.e. starts the game from the new Sims2EPx-nocd.exe).

These are instructions as jolrei posted in another thread.  They are by far the easiest as you do not have to rename or back-up original .exe(s).  You will know it works when your game loads without using the launcher and the cd (or dvd) is absent from the drive.

If you can not follow these instructions, then you have bigger problems and are probably no better off than the 0 who allegedly deleted files and caused all the problems in the first place.  You honestly sound as if you need to learn a little about the machinery you are using.  Google is your friend, ask it anything.

Edit to add:

Event Viewer is also your friend.  Read your logs to find out what happened when your game crashed.  Doesn't make sense?  Click the link provided to get a definition.  That doesn't work, google it.  Chances are it is not the first time the error has been generated.  Often times, the solution is also, indeed, right there.
240  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Merging of sims bodies. Is this sign of corruption? on: 2009 March 02, 17:21:13
I had a worse case of sims' overlap. It was during the test of a sex hack, and it was extremely creepy.
Hidden in link, to preserve eyebleach.

That would make a damn fine avatar!

The only glitches I have ever had involved babbies getting stuck to people.  I chalked it up to velcro sleepers and hippified social bonding to the extreme.  Grin

They will, however, walk those three miles in the snow just to use the fridge as a countertop.
You can always put something on the countertop to prevent Sims from using it, like Smartmilk.

Yes, I was coming back to this thread for an edit to include this obvious solution.  So kids, don't pull a snowbawl and repeatedly watch your simmies making cereal in the nursery...getting all mad and stuff.  Snowbawls are slowbawls at times.  Cheesy
242  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Targa's SupaFridge - Updated to FreeTime (Updated 2008-12-17) Animation fixed on: 2009 March 02, 15:17:51
Attached Baby Bottle Only version. It has its own GUID, so it will not overwrite the standard version. All functions are still there, I only disabled autonomy.
It's based on the fixed FT version, probably FT or higher will be required.

Just a bit of necromancy here to give you some feedback.  I had been using Ella's baby bottle only mini-fridge.  I grew weary of watching sims walk three miles in the snow to place their leftovers in the nursery fridge.  I thought, OOoo, why not give this one a go-round.  The animation fix was also a perk.  Well, I am happy to report that sims will not go out of their way to put leftovers in this version.  They will, however, walk those three miles in the snow just to use the fridge as a countertop.  Shrugs.
243  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: social_debug cheat on: 2009 March 02, 15:12:32
Oh Marhis, I am so happy I could hug you...but really, I just got rid of all that hooha.  The fix worked like a charm, though I must admit I thought you were messing with me a bit when I clicked a link about vampires and ghouls.  I still can not determine where I picked up the hug.  The only difference in my game is that I installed and PATCHED every EP when I transferred the game to this computer.  I am not sure which EPs had been patched on the old computer.  I know there were a couple that were not patched.  So I am thinking that a patch did something somewhere to enable this super duper stupid behavior.
You have my thanks.
244  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: social_debug cheat on: 2009 March 01, 20:03:59
I tried this method and did not receive an error message for social-debug.  Everyone in the entire neighborhood has the super duper hug option in the social menu.  How exactly did this happen?  Did I click social debug accidentally and enable it?  I have not added any new hacks or downloaded any new lots.  Just magically, one day...the option appeared.  Of course I had to click it.
I really, really want it to go away now.  It has become my new obsession.  I also want my one sim to STOP HUGGING EVERYONE.  He is the most hated sim in the neighborhood because of this insatiable urge to throw his arms around everyone he sees.
245  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: social_debug cheat on: 2009 March 01, 18:30:03
Ack, this explains a lot.

*wanders off to bulldoze some lots.

Fraggin superduper hug.  WHY?
246  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Vista and downloads on: 2009 February 25, 17:27:59
Did you try firing up Body Shop without the face replacements?  Did you fire up Body Shop while connected to the internet with an antivirus protection program on?  Do you have securom?  Do you have enough gigs of memory and a competent processor to run both the Vista hog and the TS2 hog?  Craptops aren't known for their gaming abilities, you know.
Your problem is definitely not in the installation of TS2 original copies.  I installed all my EPs just fine...and yes, I bought TS2 when it came out.  The game has no problems going from XP to Vista.
247  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Vista and downloads on: 2009 February 19, 14:27:17
I like my Vista, too.  And the fastest way to create the downloads folder is to just make a new folder, named...surprise!  Downloads.  Screw the EA site.
I had no problem whatsoever finding my game files and manipulating them to suit my needs.  Transferred all relevant files from old XP to new shiny Vista.  Am happily simming once again, with no lag, no god-awful load times.  I wish I would have transferred my game between computers months ago.  I have fish in my fishtanks again!  I can not possibly convey my happiness over this one little perk.
248  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can I install The Sim 2 without having to go through the whole enchilada on: 2009 February 13, 17:37:32
Therein lies my problem; my understanding of networking my two computers is very, very limited.  Call it no understanding, if you'd like.  Therefore, more traditional methods of transfer (burning to disc) are employed.

@Zazazu, yes I read about transfer via USB and "special programs" which may or may not be sold in a retail setting.  I was trying to avoid paying for something I do not already have.  Alas, I am also looking for "easy".
249  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can I install The Sim 2 without having to go through the whole enchilada on: 2009 February 13, 17:11:37
I am looking to transfer the game between computers.  I believe I have a handle on the no-cd crack use to avoid securom, but I have some questions regarding transfer methods...and exactly which content needs to be transferred.
CC from the downloads folder is a given.  I have burned all 2.4 gigs to cd(s).  That is a task unto itself.  But as unorganized as it is, I could not live without some CC, some of which I would never be able to find again.
I do not really wish to burn the remaining fat lot of the Sims2 folder to disc.  Is there a better/faster/more efficient way to transfer data between computers?  I have googled, but it was a while ago, and I did not understand a lot of it (involving servers and what not).
Moving on to what I would like transferred.  I only play one hood at this time.  I have forsaken all others.  It is the last hood I created, am I to understand that it would be the highest numbered and last created neighborhood in said folder?  This is the only hood I want transferred as is.  Would transferring the file enable the hood to be played as it is now, or do I need to transfer other bits with it, in order to play it exactly as it is now?  Lot Catolog would be everything that is in the family and lot bins?  I have one particular house that I use to make cookie-cutter subdivisions because I love it so much.  I do not want to lose that particular house.  So I would need to transfer the Lot Catalog, right?
The rest, I do not care about.  There are no unused saved sims lurking in the sim bin of CAS that I care about.  No storytelling bits, pictures, video, nada.  I just want CC, my one hood, and one lot-bin house.  And that's all I need.  Oh, and this remote control. /The Jerk.
Oh, the CEP, can I just transfer that file, or do I need to redownload and install?  I can also redownload camera settings/mods.  And marvine's spiral stairs (no apartment life and I can NOT possibly live without these)...would those need to be redownloaded?  I do not care about custom fireplaces or anything else that might be roaming around outside of my downloads folder.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
250  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2009 January 28, 17:09:17
Or perhaps because people just tend to shiftclick and pick Give Cell Phone, ironically because braving the horrid lot load times to go to a community lot tended to make it not worth the hassle, something TS3 is supposed to eliminate (by making the entire GAME lag instead).

I have never played a game in my entire life that has taken so long to load.  To the point where I never, ever change lots.  Once I am in a particular lot, I stay there, until I am done playing the game.  The load times killed me.  I would wander off to do laundry, clean the toilet, run a marathon, and forget...sometimes coming back to a lot full of almost dead sims because no one wants to cook.  So do I understand correctly that FOJ believes TS3 will be laggy through and through?  I do not think I can handle any more sloooow.  I am anxious to hear reports from all the sheeple who rush right out to buy.  If the game play is slow, I'll skip it.
P&L at the bawl's long load times. On Addison, changing to a community lot takes about a minute and a half on my normal account. Couple seconds on the test account. Load times don't annoy me. The insistence that sims have on walking to the freaking mailbox or phone and their propensity to always appear on the side farthest for me that pisses me off. That and patrons deciding to jump rope in my tiny 1x1 salon.

To be fair, I could install TS2 on new computer, and would not have this problem.  I have been waiting on TS3, however, as lame as that sounds.  If TS3 is not deemed worthy, I will transfer TS2 over, because I probably would play if it were not for the extreme slowness of playing it on computer that is old...and has a long beard.
