I assume they vaguely 'Use' the loo, right?

Well, when I finally get a Simbot, I'm assuming that's how they change oil. Just like the AWESOME-O.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Realistic nighttime lighting indoors on: 2010 June 03, 10:57:47
Huh. Well, maybe my Sims 3 game is even more fucked up than most, but I was inspired to play around with the lighting and here's what I found.

I took a room, put one light in it, and set the custom colour to 0,0,0. Once I turned it on, the brightness exploded into the worst brightness to ever bright. It was uniform and looked shittier than Sims 1.

Then I made a green wall and a green floor and it's the best green screen ever. Like, ever. If I could figure out how to kick the reflective effect out of the windows to make them base-game-Sims-1-type holes, I'd probably do something with...oh, who am I kidding, I'd tell more proactive people about this glitch so they could machinimate stuff.

This effect is ruined if any other light in the same room is a different colour.

...oh, and another thing. After incrementally increasing the colour value, I found that something like 1,1,1 had no noticable effect on the Hollywood Night thing, but as the light got more colour, the rest of the room gradually got darker.

I think this is the point where you have to admit your multi-million dollar entertainment franchise has failed. Except that it hasn't... the BBS is full of people angrily shouting down bug reports, saying "You have to take it with a grain of salt" and implying the bug reporters are either whiny or stupid. I always go there with the intent of enjoying a good argument, and I always close the window five minutes later shaking with rage.
It's not the sheep at the BBS that piss me off. It's the Maxoids.

I think the problem with each new expansion pack is EAxis' superiority complex. A feeling that they can do no wrong and any glitch or oopsie is the fault of the consumer. For example, I think the fact that people are pissed about not having a CD version means they're aware of what drive they've got in their computer, kthx.

Could Maxoid_Hydra possibly be anymore condescending? "We are aware that some people in this community aren't professional computer programmers, like us, so we've dumbed down every put the technical process of playing our game into plain English so everyone can understand.

"First, look at that box that may look like it does nothing. It's actually very important, believe it or not. Push the button that has a drawing on it that looks like an upside-down lollipop. If the TV next to the important box doesn't start showing pretty pictures, it should also have an upside-down lollipop somewhere. Press it.

"Now we wait for Mr. Computer to ask you for your login details. Hopefully you've remembered them..."

*reads thread, heart sinks, saves money*

Um, EAxis? When you make Big Rigs look like a complete game, you're doing it wrong.
5  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Bork Pool for L&P Sims2 'Apartment Life/Fill Up With All The Odds & Ends on: 2008 June 12, 09:25:59
Somehow, SecuROM mistakes the original Sims 2 game as emulation software, and won't let Apartment Life run unless the very program that allows it to be used is removed.

The good news is that, by some miracle, Apartment Life finally fixes the 'Make Cakes' bug from Makin' Magic.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone take the lastest survey on the Sims 2 web page? on: 2008 June 12, 02:46:10
Pfft. You know where they ask how cheap it'd have to be before you'd doubt it's quality? I put -1 cent. Yes. If I were being bribed into downloading their stuff, I'd have my doubts.
7  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful than You! May: Clothing Meshes of the Damned on: 2008 June 02, 04:17:50
Oh, eww. I like.

I also lurk, which is why I wasn't gonna make this suggestion buuuuuuuuuuuut...how about a Copy-oh-so-wrong Infringement month? That Resident Evil E-Z Access mesh brought back memories of that Samus Aran with no nostrils and black hair. I wanna see who fucks up someone else's idea the worst.
8  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! March: Fugly Models on: 2008 March 19, 02:05:07
Yeah, there's something about Sims 2 eyes that require them to be the same colour and size.

Still, I would love to make a platinum trash sim, and that outfit's perfect. I can has link?
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 19, 00:05:14
Well, my pet got promoted instead so...kinda sweet. But I found another pet bug, and that's sad because it still can't be traced to FreeTime.

So, the nanny's around so the (storyline) seriously ill mother doesn't have to deal with one toddler, probably two feti (does the super fertility perk actually do anything?), and five cats all on her own. For some reason, the nanny brings Orion, a cute little black kitten, into the bathroom. I can't help but wonder, "She's not gonna flush him, is she?" Of course, there are no mechanics for such an act in-game...right? Her complaint that there was a sink in the way of whatever she wanted to do to my cat only supported the flushing hypothesis.

There was absolutely no reason for her to bring him in there. Anyhoo, she starts mopping up, and Orion disappears. Completely. Just like the good old bug where visitors would abduct your toddlers, except she transmogrified an innocent baby animal into a cheap mop.

So, for the storyline, the crazy old bat flushed a kitten down the loo, so I'm firing her and heaping more stress on Gloria. JOY. Sad
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 18, 02:59:02
This just happened a few minutes ago. I have all EPs and SPs. The only global hack in my game is one that gives the juicer infinite capacity, and I'm not even using the juicer on this lot. In fact, the only custom content there is in play at the moment is four bottles of poison (gypsy potions by...someone from MTS2, god I'm brilliant at the braining) in Gloria's inventory, and she ain't used a single one yet.

The problem is...there's a cynical part of me that refuses to accept that this is a bug:

Did it exist before FT? Was it fixed and re-broken? I, ah, haven't actually played with pets all that much. Got the EP within a week of it coming out, of course...

...oh well, it made me lol.
11  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! March: Fugly Models on: 2008 March 17, 12:29:49
I downloaded CC for Sims 1. Townies suddenly spawned with irremovable helmets, sims ate the fun candy and kept trying to kiss total strangers (back when kissing made babies, so...yeah), blah blah blah..at least I found a fix for the 'Make Cakes' bug.

...and now I can't find the disks with all my Sims 1 crap. Dammit, I wanna play-y-y-y-y-y...

(Ever tried supporting a commune of eight sims without getting them jobs? In Sims 1? Now there's a challenge...)

Still, the Sims 1 model doesn't have a back crack, and she does have nostrils, and she's not Hitler. HOLY CRAP ARE THOSE INDIVDUAL FINGERS?
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wish: Fix some useless features.. and something about FFSdebugger on: 2008 March 15, 03:59:51

13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wish: Fix some useless features.. and something about FFSdebugger on: 2008 March 15, 03:44:46
Actually, I was gonna make her breathe in the fumes for the lulz...but that works too.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wish: Fix some useless features.. and something about FFSdebugger on: 2008 March 15, 03:11:28
So, um, she's not a spoilt little rich girl? Even though she said so?

That makes her a big fat LIAR. I'll get the petrol.

Yeah, I said petrol. That's what we call 'gasoline' in Australia.
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 11, 23:44:22
I moved a male sim into a mansion that had been made a few years ago (I found the Queen Bee 'challenge' and wanted to know if it was feasible with the Knowledge aspiration perks to do it with a guy) and everything works just fine.

I did serve up a six pack of instant meals one time, and my only guest took the whole six pack and drank it. I took a picture for the lulz (and can't be fucked finding it), but then the plate was unselectable and I couldn't clean it up. The maid did when he came over the next day, though.

I'm playing a very safe game at the moment, too. No violin, no pre-existing sims...it's fun, in a playing-the-grand-piano way.
16  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! March: Fugly Models on: 2008 March 11, 14:13:25
3a). Remember: no submitting actual Sims, since they're not technically models. I'm looking for the worst example of Sims used to actually try to promote user-created content.
3b). The exception to that rule is if the Sim itself is used to distribute custom content that isn't available elsewhere.

*reads rule 3b*

Aha, so I can submit that which destroyed my soul!

Those Metroids aren't 'chopped in there just to look cute. This is supposed to be Samus Aran. Non-fans will note the complete lack of nostrilage. People more familiar with the franchise will know that EVERY FUCKING THING IS WRONG EXCEPT FOR THE PRESENCE OF BOOBIES.

Just to give everyone playing at home an idea of how wrong the above freak is, here's some more ugly Samuses (Sami?) with some screenshots from the GBA games. At least here you can see even a minimum of attempt to make the sims look like who they're supposed to.

...I never said my soul was all that deep.

18  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: God Broke the Crystal Ball on: 2007 December 01, 12:54:26
Eh, but the game helpfully reopens those panels at random way too often anyway. Tongue And technically, even making the panels invisible is meaningless, since it's pretty simple to simply get a datatable of the core motives, and then calculate them manually from a known point. Really, there's not much of a challenge involved. If you know what the want tree triggers are, you can even predict, or simply force, wants.
I'm actually counting on random events screwing up an otherwise perfectly planned game. I know what people here are like. Cheesy Although, I betcha if I posted this challenge on the official boards, people'd whine that the Grilled Cheese penalty makes it an impossible game.

Actually, I've only seen a "dine out with" want once or twice in I don't know how many dates-at-home, and never a "go to a community lot" want ever.
I got the 'Go to Community Lot' want every bloody time I'd date at home with this particular couple, and EVERY BLOODY TIME time one of them was two or three days pregnant! MORONS.

Now I have to figure out how to make God's broken crystal ball the excuse for no dates and rolled aspirations. Hopefully I'll dream of the answer.
19  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! December: 'tis the season! on: 2007 December 01, 12:11:56
I'm having trouble making the distinction between general Christmas gaudiness and utter crap.

This is a good start, though:

It's a Buntah mesh, but someone else recoloured it. I honestly couldn't tell.

ETA: Oh god.

http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/sims2/objects/furnishing/beds/236574/
Because who doesn't want to sleep in a bed with tissue paper sheets and a poor print design? The pillow looks like something that something else chewed and spat back out.
20  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: God Broke the Crystal Ball on: 2007 December 01, 11:38:02
Thanks. I was too busy patching up the teeny tiny holes to see the big date-related one. (Isn't the date's wants/fears panel...still a wants/fears panel? Definitely clarifying that.)

Considering some revisons:
1. Roll for aspiration? I personally am most comfortable with Family and Knowledge sims and can reasonably predict what they'd want without seeing their panels. Spinning up a Popularity Sim would make me soil myself. That's the point of a challenge, innit?
2. Removing the zombie non-penalty? It doesn't seem to make that much of a difference in my strategy, but then I might be picking on Knowledge sims who might want their old 'buddies' back as zombies and I really don't want to have Wants slots sitting there wasting space...unless there's an even threat of this for all aspirations.
3. Never leaving the lot? Aside from college and home move outs and move ins, this would fix the possibility of the game being 'helpful' and all, "Lookit! Your sim wants coffee! And their bladder motive's very low. Choose wisely your course of action, omnipotent one. Aren't you glad these facts are here to help you?"

'3' would also cripple dates to an extent, since that wants panel can get filled with a dining out want, a 'go to community lot' want, and the wants to see rain and get shocked by lightning. Yes, dates make the challenge easier than I'd intended, but they're a part of the game and banning them outright would cripple Romance and Pleasure sims in the same way penalizing the creation of zombies would hurt Knowledge sims - uniquely.
21  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / God Broke the Crystal Ball on: 2007 December 01, 04:45:46
This idea for a challenge came to me a couple of days ago. It's my first so I'd like some feedback on this.

Make an adult or young adult in CAS. Move them in anywhere you want/they can afford. Minimize the Wants and Needs panels. Keep them that way for the rest of the challenge. The only panel you can examine is the Inventory panel, since I figure one doesn't need to be psychic to see a Ford Advertisement stuffed in a shirt pocket. That's no looking up their relationships, personality, memories, grades at school/college...nothing except what they're holding.

The only things you will ever know of your Family are their aspirations, asp. levels, general moods, ages, money and LTWs. They'll wave up to you and complain about being tired or hungry, which is fine since God broke the crystal ball, not his/her ears. You'll have to fulfil sims' Wants by guessing what they'd want, with only their aspiration and what little you can guess of their personality and relationships as a guide.

You can move in and marry NPCs and townies - they don't need to help you spawn and they count as Family for game scoring. You don't have to ever spawn if whiny whinging poop machines annoy you with their whining, whinging and pooping.

While you can't look at a sim's skill panel, job panel etc. you can command another sim to ask them about their job or skills. Again, God still has eyes and ears.

+5 for permaplat old age deaths - once per sim
+15 for platinum w/o permaplat old age deaths - once per sim

-5 for every Sim resurrection - zombification is an exception
-10 for quitting without saving - bugs and crashes are exceptions
-10 for every aspiration failure - can be 'achieved' by one sim multiple times
-10 for SimVac platinumization - can be 'achieved' by one sim multiple times, SimVac uses that do not result in platinum mood aren't penalized
-20 for Strawberry Lemonade platinumization - can be 'achieved' by one sim multiple times
-20 for every Grilled Cheese sim - once per sim
-50 for every peek at the forbidden panels*
-infinity if all sims in the Family are dead and the last death doesn't push the score to +100 or more

*The peek penalty doesn't count if/when the game automatically opens the Wants/Needs panels. Reclose them immediately. Basically God gets a new crystal ball whenever this happens, and it breaks instantly once again. You can also peek without penalty in the last five Sim minutes of an old sim's life, just to check up on how well it turned out under your crippled guidance, whether or not it was ever a Grilled Cheese sim, if it ever got permaplat or not (in case you forgot)...anything you've ever been curious about.

The game ends when you reach or surpass either -100 or +100 points. The former is a failure state, the latter is a success state, and fast food is bad for your health. Thus ends the trilogy of obvious statements.

Failure: To measure the degree of your failure, count how many sims you had in the Family before you reached -100 points. The less sims it took, the worse you have failed.

Success: Again, count how many sims you involved in the challenge before you got to +100 points. The less sims, the better.

I thought I was done, but the deadline's not passed yet, and TSR still exists, so of course there's more shit to find and report.

This is pay content that's been featured for how 'good' it is.

http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/sims2/body/makeup/106202/

"But new person," you may be saying, "That's no worse than anything EAxis have done."

I say nothing. Once again, I quote the original artist:
Quote
Maxis default facepaint, recoloured.
Maxis default facep- don't I already have that? Didn't I already pay for that when I bought the game? And you want me to pay for it again?

EAxis have a low standard. For me to give a third party my monies for their bitmaps on my sims, those bitmaps have to exceed EAxis quality by light-years. This...is on par with EAxis. If it were free, par would be fine, but it's not free and that's why this thing can go fuck right off.
23  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More Awful Than You! November: "Fucked up Make-up!" on: 2007 November 30, 05:13:45
Fairy kisses, obviously  Wink

Even though they look like badly-done spots from here.
You know what they reminded me of? You know those felt-tip pens that have a shape for the tip so you can stamp these cute little shapes on your paper?

There's always one with a lips shape. It looks like someone tried to stab him in the face, but grabbed the lips texta instead of a knife.

ETA: Will someone fucking stop me from trawling the archives of TSR? I'm masochistic enough to willingly watch Bloodrayne...again...but this is too much!

And there are clones of all of these lipsticks, but these were the worst of the worst.

In order to permanently lift the Slacker, Politics or Law Enforcement restrictions, the Law restriction must be lifted first.
So...even if Jeff still has his job as a Professional Party Guest when his firstborn spawn reaches the top of the Law career, he's still only suppressing it? That doesn't really make sense to me.

I suppose Evelyn still has time to break up with the Mr. Big, find some other townie who's a Professional Party Guest, romance him, and take up Law instead of Show Biz. But then, my strategy was going to be dating up the motives and swimming in cash so the spawn had little to worry about when they took up Medicine and Culinary.

That really chaps my caffeinated arse. I suppose I can try to get three spawn from Evelyn's shrivelled, wasted eggs and make the first one of them a lawyer, and the second one can go be a Slacker like Daddy. Third one can go cook 'n stuff. Culinary's slightly more important than Medicine because I should bring in some cats, and pets can't have their motives dated up. They need to be fed. And cats are superior since they take care of their own hygiene motive.

Are the BV rules posted anywhere? Anywhere at all?

ETA: I can answer my own questions, kthx. There's lots of cries of YAY! and AWW CRAP! following that link.
25  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2007 November 30, 00:40:13
Two bugs have happened so far. The first one...her energy won't go down. It's maxed out and staying that way. I have a mod or five that maxes out energy, but none of them are active on her. 's what the game says, anyway. It'll probably fix itself when she moves into the Pocky Lips main neighbourhood. (Yes, I called it Pocky Lips. It was cute. I was more sleep-deprived than usual. Shut up.)
Is this in Uni? I've had that issue before, way back when, and I believe it fixed itself randomly when the sim in question went to the secret society lot. It was in a Greek legacy, and she became the girl who did everyone's homework...I'd just have everyone else drop theirs on the porch and at night she'd sit out there with a snapdragon and get everyone A's.
So it can happen in anyone's game? Sweet, I thought I'd have to start over. Somebody's going to leave joining the SS to the last minute...

Also, found a BV exploit (like there aren't heaps already, but this one beats my half-arsed makeshift rules)...if you take your founder from dorm to dorm to dorm to dorm, selling all the crap in each dorm until you get, say, 40 000, and then create a new Uni that allows beach lots, then make a beach lot and move your founder in...you can put the huge-ass ship on the lot, then in their inventory. Yes, you'd have to move into a beach lot when the founder graduates, but then the first time you pay money to the mob, you definitely won't have enough to cover re-purchasing that ship...but it'll still be worth tens of thousands. You can't swim in the ocean because it's contaminated, but you can swim in the money. Never mind, the sleep-deprived idiot forgot the 8x8 rule. Doh.

But yeah, BV makes the Seasons rules a little easier to swallow IMO.
