Is it possible to mod the daylight times?
« on: 2007 July 02, 09:37:55 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Is there, somewhere out there, a mod to change the daylight times, either for a whole hood/subhood, or for a lot? I want my spaceships to travel in dark! And for that matter, my medieval village is situated in a nordic environment, where winters are DARK and the you dont sleep in the summer, because the nights are so short.

Ooh, great idea. I've wanted something similar since Seasons escaped the Maxoids. I was disappointed that daylight hours did not change with the season.

Alas, no. Otherwise I'd have done it already. Eternal darkness FTW.

Isn't this possible with Lighting.txt? I saw references to dawn and sunset in there.

I think you can change how long the fancy lightshow at dawn and sunset lasts in Lighting.txt, but not when they will occur.

Oooh. A longer light show would be nice. Sunsets don't typically last for only one minute where I'm from.

I like the lightshow too, the amber tints are so pretty and real. By the way, why is it so bright in winter?

Spookymuffin at InSim has a modified version of GunMod's lighting mod. The sunsets and sunrises look really beautiful, but the day and night settings are still Maxis default. On second thought, if you want more darkness, GunMod's might be the better choice. I think it's still up at MTS2, being maintained by somebody else. It made quite a difference in my game when I used it (it actually depressed me a little after I got done ooohing and aaahing over the beauty of it).

Yea, I got rid of the Gunmod lighting because I started finding it way too dark, but I use the Spookymuffin thing, and as you say, it does add a very pretty ambiance to the sunrise and sunset times.

I have the modified Gunmod's version from MTS2. The hour long sunrises and sunsets stopped working with Seasons. I think someone posted about it over there.

The sunrises and sunsets still work, but some of the other lighting was overwritten by the new ambiance of Seasons, which is fine since fall does have different lighting than a summer day.

It's not exactly the same as GunMod's, but mine still works with Seasons.

Oh yes indeed. Man, why didn't Maxis include Dawn and Dusk for longer than a friggin' second, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Probably because the change in lighting causes lag on slower computers. Even on my super-fast machine, there is a bit of a lag during sunrise and sunset, but not enough to cause an inconvenience.

Hmm, yes, that is true. I get lag myself during those times, not nearly enough to bother me though, having played this game without a video card before, lag no longer bothers me.
