1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 20, 21:36:47
I've already gleaned a few helpful ideas, and the list of rabbithole minimum lots will save me a bunch of time.
One thing to remember with the minimum lot size for the EA rabbit holes is that it measures the building, not the entrance-only section. The reason I say that is because you can get creative with "moveobjects on". You don't necessarily need a lot as big as the building, but you do need to be mindful of how you can overlap and how you can't.

Bookstore, movie theater, grocery store, and spa on the same 29x37 lot (still need to smooth pavement), fully useable by sims.

Science building merged into the terrain a bit on a 36x32 lot (I did some more tweaking to make it natural), leaving space on a so that a good portion of the lot could still be used as a park...and evidence that the townies do use it.

Stadium smushed into the mountain a bit off of a 26x26 lot (stadium is 40x50). You can also see the criminal warehouse and hospital are overlapping lot edges but look natural.

Long view of the stadium, hospital, and criminal warehouse, showing how well it can blend.

Great tips. Thanks.

I'm not blindly supporting EA.

I'm simply smarter than your average bear (bear meaning: a hilarious euphemism for a retarded teen who plays t The s Sims) and understand that patches are not easy things, and that it's far, far better for them to exist and have some problems than to never exist at all.

Plus, I've yet to hear of a big problem with a patch that wasn't a CC conflict, which is not EA's fault.

Grammar day 2009: I am in your posts, nitpicking your errors.
lol.

My file has been mostly fixed. There is still a little bit of road wonkiness on the road that runs along the southern beach, but I've smoothed everything as much as I can without screwing up lots, and have conformed lot edges. You might notice some graphical issues when running quickly over the terrain, but they resolve on stopping. Sims can no longer climb mountains. There is now a clear pathway into the partially hidden beach rich in rare fish.  Lots are named.

Looking at the size constraints above, you'd definitely need the mini rabbit holes from Pudding Factory for my terrain. Works for me since that's what I'd intended to do, but might be a concern for others.

Where were you having wonkiness on the road? Was it due to the fact that you had hills or something? Just trying to think of things to consider while I'm making my "world." I have a lot of rolling hills, and "interesting" terrain. Currently the roads look fine in the CAW, but I'd be curious to know what it looks like in-game.

Ok here's a stupid question.  Has anyone been able to edit an already running hood?
That's more or less why I came on for my question, as far as I can see, we can only edit Rivervew and Sunset Valley, we use the lite version and that will load without any buildings or sims.  What I want to know is where are the Adventures worlds, can we use them to edit to make regualr towns?  I've tried editing someone else's worlds and I get an error that it can't open packaged files, so a world that has already been uploaded and installed won't work.  I'd love to be able to use the 3 adventure worlds as my regular towns!

I'm sure someone will hack them Smiley
5  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 18, 18:07:04
I stll haven't got the "feel" for snapping roads to intersections and bridges.  What do I do - pull the road nearly to the bridge and then let go and see what happens?  Pull the road to the centre of the bridge?   And what signal do you get that a snap has occurred?   Last time I thought I had snapped the road to the bridge it was actually running underneath it into the river.

Usually what I've been doing is zooming in close to the road, and using one of the angle-anchors to make it as straight on to the next piece as possible.. then just dragging the blue anchor over top of the piece you are trying to connect to.. you know it snaps because the blue anchor disappears and the roads become one piece.. It takes a few tries to get it right, but just keep moving it around and releasing until it works.

Edit: Road anchors turn from dark blue to light blue, intersections, i believe, turn to green.
6  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 18, 01:46:44
They look connected. Need to test though.

well i would imagine if they actually connected it would snap like road segments do.. once you get them lined up right the 2 touching ancor points (the blue ones) merge.. i noticed that bridge also has these same styled anchor points, though i havent been able to get them snap like the roads do..

EDIT: Right after I posted that I got the road to snap to the bridge.. so.. fucking awesome..
7  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Create-A-World Tips, Tricks, and Annoyances on: 2009 December 18, 00:55:06
It is a little tricky at start, but it is growing on me. Here is a pic on what I am working on:

That is an island which, with time, will be my new Old Town in Windle.

Now, if I could figure out how to get custom paints and other textures in there, preferrably stuff I already have in game. Cheesy

Were you able to connect road-ways to bridges? Still trying that one. Took me awhile to get my roads to connect.

I'm not sure why but my computer isn't allowing me to download the framework, it says Unexpected End of Archive.
But the d3dx9_31.dll is there, but when i go to copy it, it says Archive is either in unknown format or damaged.
Am i doing something wrong here?

If you already have a working framework, then all you need to do is follow the instructions. No need to download it again.
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 plus Create a World Released on: 2009 December 17, 05:50:04
I dont think that is possible, the .dbc files are generated by the launcher so if it cannot install the sims3pack you are stuck ... you can use your previous items using that trick but that is it.

Either EA fixes this mess or Sims3packs are a dead format.

Actually the sims3pak works fine from every site but the official Sims3 site.  If you want something from the store the patch now apparently monitors what you have paid for and what you have not.  I had 2000 points from promotions.  Everything that I obtained legally works fine.  All of the sims store content that I have obtained from other sites are useless.  I have sims3paks from SimsDesign Avenue and Around the Sims 3.  Those are working fine.

If what you say is true, people will have to be more creative when stealing from the EA Store. On an another note, I used the .dbc fix, and all seems to be fine. Though, there still could've been casualties in the patch.. but I didnt use those files anway, so no loss to me.
10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 17, 00:34:38
There are some reports on MTS that people have patched up and their CC is working just fine.  This is interesting...

Because MTS requires uploaders to use .package files which appear to be working.
11  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 17, 00:29:31
Come on, kids. I doubt this has anything to do with EA's stance towards the community creators. EA doesn't think that wide. No, they simply changed the way that the game recognizes sims3packs so as to fight pirating from their store.

That's what I was thinking as well, but I'd still like to get my other .sims3package CC to load.
12  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 17, 00:14:45
Well, I've made MANY attempts to restore my CC, but to no avail. I'm able to get it to load, but the game is basically hosed in a way that can not be explained. So, until they release a new patch or somebody  Wink releases a tool to fix older sims3package files.. I believe they are just gone for now.
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 23:45:25
A new patch...great...I was missing some drama in my life lately...NOT -____-

Question - 2 patches, one for base game, other for WA. Do I have to patch them both? WA shouldn`t be a problem (I can`t believe I said that), but I didn`t patch my base game to 1.7 b/c...I don`t know, I forgot to sacrifice a sheep prior to that, it just kept spitting out that "Can`t update" blah blah whatchamacallit crap. So, to use CAW, do I have to update both?
And while I`m at it, let`s say EA releases another 7 EPs. Can you imagine what would that mean? Patching 9 times? (Ok, light bulb moment - probably not, b/c the base game will be to 2.0/1.9 version, WA till 3.0, 2.9 etc...)

Why am I even playing this game? WHY? ...o_O...

Yes, base game to 1.8.
14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 23:42:48
So far, I've tried copying DCBackups to a folder within mods, CC loaded, but something is severly wrong. So then I tried extracting all .package files out of the .sims3package files I had in downloads. Same strange behavior (hard to explain try it yourself to see), and again missing CC loaded. So I guess the only other thing to do is clear DCBackups and Downloads (though I don't believe that is read by anything other than the launcher), and try the same extraction. Though, I have a feeling Mr. Pescado is going to have to share his black magic with us to find a fix. Should this be in it's own thread?
15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 23:15:16
Ok.. in my attempt to copy ALL package files from DCBackups to my Mods/Packages/Sims3Package folder.. I caused some REALLY odd behavior.. HOWEVER, my furniture showed up again. lol... god damn it. Now I have to figure out where the problem is.. maybe deleting the files in DCBackup will help..
16  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 22:59:24
Hmm .. Would extracting all the sims 3 packs as package files in the mods folder help in anyway?

That's exactly what I was going to say. It should all be in DCBack in your My Documents folder. I'll give it shot.
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 22:56:14
What does the AM update fix?  Does it make the CC work again?  Ohh come on tell me!
No, this AM update just makes the game itself work. Fixing CC requires DARK SORCERY and ELDRITCH CHICANERY involving file manipulation, and is not for dummies. Like you. Do you look anything like your avatar? Because your avatar has a really stupid look on her face.

Make a tool? Or will I have to launch S3pe/oc to fix it?
18  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 22:52:17
Okay, so I found out what happened to all the .Sims3packs. The EA launcher, and the game itself, no longer correctly reads them. Anyone, most noteably TSR, who relies on them, is now fucked. A workaround exists, but it involves DARK SORCERY and ELDRITCH ABOMINATIONS, so that's right out for TSR. But I fixed it.

Still not showing my Buy Mode CC (furniture, etc). I'll try a few more things, but still no luck at this point.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 22:42:26
You have to patch twice.
Whats up with that then? Run the same patch twice, or two different ones?  Tongue

One for the base game, one for WA>

Link broken for AM Test
Unless you want half a zip file, maybe you should wait until it finishes uploading. Tongue

NEED MY FIX!!! *Shivers*

EDIT: *sighs* D/ling now.

VICTOLY IS MINE!

Does that mean there's a new version of AM to download? Shocked
23  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 22:02:48
So all of my Buy Mode CC is gone, but the Build Mode and CAS stuff appears to still be working. Awesome......

So far AM is causing the game to crash to desktop. Time to check my CC.
25  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.8/2.3 Released - CAW Out on: 2009 December 16, 21:16:11
okay, guess it's time for me to break my install too.. better backup everything for a fresh install.
