Title: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Tigerlilley on 2008 February 20, 01:07:20
After fluffing around posting this on random sites, EA has finally "officially" released their patch, just before Free Time comes out.

Get it here: http://thesims2.ea.com/update/getpatch.php?appVersion=1.10&languageCode=

List of Fixes:
Quote
Sims will no longer have the option to call vacation service NPCs after acquiring the business perk "Head for Numbers" which was causing a crash.
Sims will no longer have the option to "Call Taxi" using their cell phones if they have driven to the community lot with an own-able vehicle which was causing a crash.
If the Sim misses the shuttle, it will no longer return to a vacation lot without the Sim at the end of the vacation. Sometimes, this caused the vacation lot to become unusable.
Game will no longer create new vacation NPCs each time a lot is visited which was causing many issues due to character file overload. Any existing extra NPCs will be unlinked and their character files greatly reduced in size.
Periodic Events Controller will no longer loop twice per hour through each neighbor which was causing extreme lag on certain machines.
Autonomous water-balloon and snowball fights have been tuned so the interaction will occur less frequently.
Housekeeper no longer repeatedly spawns.
Children will no longer go on a vacation alone if their parent dies before van arrives.
Riverblossomhills townies will no longer be invisible when The Sims 2 Seasons is uninstalled.
Sims no longer pop out of hammock when WooHoo is rejected.
Sims no longer get stuck during logrolling when trying to exit while another is entering.
Children can now drink served juice.
Undo and Redo can now be used on ClubCubes.
Vacation guests no longer leave when a party at a vacation home ends.
Locals now change back into native outfits after exiting water.
Housekeeper now fills holes and fixes broken objects.
Housekeeper now repairs servo.
Sims no longer fall in love while chatting in a tent.
Sim can now repair stereos.
Pets no longer show platinum mood in thumbnail background.
Bigfoot can no longer change appearance on the vanity table.
Hotels no longer become Community lots after being visited by a Young Adult.
Make Furry Friend vacation memento is now achieved by making friends with Big Foot.
Souvenirs only restock when Sim has them in inventory.
Sledgehammer Tool can no longer be used on Hotels by pressing "J".
Sim no longer wants to learn a massage if they have already been learned.
Polish Only: Fixed issue with hotel room pricing.
You can now queue up multiple Dig For Treasure interactions.
When clicking "Ready to Play" the Launcher now launches first.
Sims can now be added to a group when "Walk To…" interaction is canceled and re-queued.
Sims no longer become stuck in vehicle when transitioning from a Secret Lot to a Vacation Home.
Customers reject a massage if the purchase price is set too high.
Bigfoot can no longer be asked to go on Group Outing.
Fire Dancer Mat and Food Stands cannot be placed in a Sim's inventory.
Seating can now be removed from the Food Stands.
Fire dancer mat cannot be set for sale.
Having the Business Perks interface open when the vacation loading screen begins will no longer cause the game to freeze.
Young Adults who are staying at a vacation home no longer have the option to Get Married or Move In another Sim.
Sims can no longer assign others to be a masseuse.

As I say after the annoucement of every new patch...

Whos going first?

That's old news. It already happened and doesn't happen more.

So has the team figured out if any of your fixes are no longer needed for BV?

No, I haven't downloaded yet. Too busy. Someone will send me an objects.package to diffscan soon.

It's only taken me six ep's to get to that point.   :P

All I want to know is where is my fucking patch/drivers that will stop making my computer crash and BV actually playable. Fuckers.

That is all.

I'm waiting to see what JM has to say about it after he's run the hack-diff thingie.

Whaddaya reckon they've broken in this patch? Bigfoot is an excellent candidate for further buggieness.

I guess the patch had to be ready by now as Freetime comes out next week, so that it could be included. No free choice as to whether we want those features.

Poor Bigfoots, no more outings.

I'm still raising my eyebrow suspiciously at the "housekeeper will repair broken stuff, including Servo" bit (repairmen why, then?). And wondering whether it'll be the patch or the new EP that breaks the pianos again.  ::)

Yeah, they didn't manage to actually fix that.

EAxis also tried to fix the sandcastle bug, but introduced another one instead. The original fix > EAxis fix. EAxis = FAIL.

Yes, I believe they refer to the hotel maid as the 'housekeeper'.

It doesn't say anything about fixing the music stations on vacation community lots, the primp interaction, or the getting rid of the "lick plate" option for sims that can't use it.  Thank God there is MATY...well or Pescado...same difference I suppose. XD

Typical. Verdict? I didn't install the last one. I'm honestly not jonesing about this one.

Frack! @$(&#(&!
I've been working on a project right now: recreating SimCity4 lots for Sims2. I'm done with municipals and halfway done with residentials. Still have parks & rec and community to finish. Not doing any buildings over 10 stories, but still....it's a lot of lots. I really wanted to finish before I added on Free Time, 'cause I'm sharing. Looks like my weekend's booked. Sorry friends, no going out drinking.  >:(

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Lerf on 2008 February 20, 16:46:32
I just made the mistake of trying to install the #&(&@(& thing.  It tells me it can't install because I have a later EP installed and I need to patch it first.  FT is not out.  I have TSS, but it is neither an EP nor does it have a patch.

Then it tells me there's been an error installing the patch (duh!) and that I have to reinstall BV, so I should back up my game.

I usually don't have trouble with patches, but I'd avoid this one as a thorough f'up by Eaxis.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Lerf on 2008 February 20, 17:10:38
Nope.  Not wanting to have to completely reformat my HD to get rid of SuckyROM, I decided to live with it.

And this is my vanilla game with no hacks, or objects other than Maxis downloadable stuff.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: jsalemi on 2008 February 20, 17:14:48
Did you make anything in your BV program files directory read-only, like 'objects.package'?  Or change 'graphics.scr' to support a widescreen monitor?  I've had either one of those bork a patch; fixing the problem and rerunning the patch then worked fine with no errors.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Jelenedra on 2008 February 20, 17:15:53
Hmm. Maybe try redownloading the patch. Thus exhausts my advice.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Lerf on 2008 February 20, 17:37:37
No, no adjustments to the grpahics.scr and I made sure nothing was ReadOnly.  I tried downloading the patch again, and the patch still won't install.

On the good side, the game seems to still run OK without reinstalling, so I'll just live without the patch for the time being.

I got the same "You have a new expansion installed!" but the patch installed ok.

So far my game seems stable enough, I've got one family in the Far East at the moment.  Sadly they learned "Hang Loose" from a Twiikii local, who, in my opinion, shouldn't of even been there in the first place.  Sigh.

I had the same issue as Lerf. The patch seemed to object to my Objects package. I decided to try uninstalling and reinstalling BV as it suggests. Given that I once uninstalled Uni and had the devil of a time putting it back on this was a risky decision. Defragging the computer after the uninstall was the longest bit. The game actually reinstalled without a problem. Except it wiped out the entire TS2 folder, I didn't realise that it would do that  :-[ Good thing I have a backup.

Those who have installed the new patch, did you install the old one? Maybe it's looking for that, because EA, thinking that everyone trusts them so much, assumes that everyone installed it because patches are always a good thing, right? Or maybe just forgot to take it into account.

Zazazu, try installing Numenor's base game starter. I use it for building lots, it is really useful.

Post by: Zazazu on 2008 February 21, 02:27:09
If I don't finish in time, I will. Most of the remaining lots I have to do are low- and mid-rises which are glorified boxes. The R$$$ ones are the ones that are going to take some time, plus the mayor's house and house of worship. I put the municipals up in Peasantry a couple minutes ago.

This new patch doesn't fix the problem of oriental food being served at the island food stand, or Room Service showing up with the covered tray but not leaving any food.
My experience has been that each ep has more problems than the previous ones. I have no reason to believe it will be any different with the new ep coming out. I've read too many times where people have experienced more problems due to patch installations. Maybe installing so many ep's and stuff packs are just asking for pc and game performance problems, especially when the ep's are marketed containing problems to begin with. I think I will pass on the forthcoming ep and try to save what is left of my game and my sanity. As for the patches, outside of maybe updating Securom, neither fixes any of the problems I have been having.

No word on endlessly looping wedding parties with no-show honeymoon shuttles.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Lerf on 2008 February 21, 14:08:58
The maid at the hotel is called the Housekeeper, and the problem was there was no one to call to fix broken stuff, like bathtubs and stuff before, so they added that function to the Housekeeper.

And, while I don't know about endlessly looping weddings, it seems that they deliberately got rid of the Limo as ittells you in the Prima Guide that it doesn't come any more.

I've never had this problem! Is it definitely a BV problem or was it introduced in the patch or from some other cause?

Also the looping weddings I haven't experienced but I heard the missing limo is because now your married couples can take 'real' honeymoons instead of fake limo ones.

I have not had looping weddings, but I intermittently get weddings where one of the wedding party will drop the "catch shuttle" from their queue if they want to clean up after the wedding, need to pee, etc.  I am not sure why this happens, but it usually results in me scrapping the holiday to avoid losing a sim somewhere in BV limbo.

With BV there are no more honeymoon limos - if you want a honeymoon, you have to book a honeymoon holiday prior to the wedding party.  If everything works, your newlyweds will go to the shuttle after the wedding and get whisked off to the holiday destination for a playable honeymoon (which is indistinguishable from any other BV holiday, as far as I can tell).

It's not consistent. It's a BV issue, and occurred before the patch. Also occurred before I put my hack cocktail back in. Only seems to happen with flapjacks. Instead, they sometimes get ramen.

It appears purely graphical, since it still COUNTS as flapjacks.

I have never had a problem with a patch, other than weirdness with installing plus patching at the same time. But I no longer like to install the EPs before at least one patch is out. Every EP seems to introduce newly horrible and game-breaking bugs.

Because I kept getting looping wedding parties when I booked honeymoons, I stopped booking honeymoons... and I still get the limo.

Post by: jsalemi on 2008 February 23, 14:47:03
I've seen one glitch with the patch (I assume it's the patch, anyway) -- I had a sim at a vacation hotel before I applied it, and when I went to the hotel to play him afterwards, it was stuck at somthing like speed 1.5, regardless of what the game speed was set to.  All other lots in the vacation hood were fine, and the speed controls worked.  Only the hotel was borked.  It was his second day there, and I know it wasn't acting that way when he first arrived. Leaving the hotel to go to a comm lot and coming back didn't have any effect.

It didn't bother me much because he only had one more night there, but damn does the night go slow when it doesn't kick into speed 3.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: cwykes on 2008 February 23, 20:04:19
I've had a couple of lots kick in at speed 3 on loading and I haven't patched.  I figured I'd wait for Free time rather than mess around replacing the cracked exe twice.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Tigerlilley on 2008 February 23, 22:53:12
I've just noticed that my lots do start off speed 3 but stop again after 5sim minutes on their own.  I have patched.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Karen on 2008 February 24, 01:23:47
Is there any point to installing this patch if you're going to be getting FreeTime when it comes out?  Won't FreeTime use a new .exe anyway and therefore not be affected by any BV (or prior) patches?

If this patch will be bypassed when I install FreeTime, I'm definitely not going to bother with it.

About the room service bug -- I have not had problems with this since I started to make a habit of ALWAYS calling room service using the phone in the hotel room, rather than the cell phone.  I did have the "disappearing food" bug at first, but it doesn't seem to happen if you call using the phone in the room.

If you don't patch, stuff fixed by the patch will be bugged forever. And I think they often make changes to things other than what they actually list. Like engine issues or something. Unlike the sims 1, patches for previous problems are not included in the new EPs.

Really? Eeek I didn't know that, I just assumed the new EP would fix the issues with the last EP! I think I patched the base game and one other EP but usually I just use MATY fixes. It doesn't seem right that a new EP wouldn't fix previous issues though, what about all those people who play but don't have internet access on the computer they play on? Or people who just don't bother to ever look at anything to do with the online Sims community and so never hear about the patches? Surely they would have to include new fixes in EPs to make sure those people's games were ok?

That's what that whole "updating your game" thing is about when you install a new ep, that is a patch for the old one. It doesn't help when they release a patch for the old ep after the release of a new ep. You have to apply that one yourself.

Thanks to you, I can( I am really grateful) but the main annoyance is is that all my children will be in aspiration failure and all the Sim's wants and fears are littered with death garbage that is no longer relavent to them.  When the tombstone is respond it is like they died all over again.  I have about 50 graves.  I must have something that is causing this to happen to my game.

Do you trust them to get the right patch in the new EP?  Remember how NL patch 2 fixes didn't all make it into OFB?

Of course not. I patch my game right before adding a new ep. It cuts down on updating issues anyway. But, patching is what it's supposed to be doing ...what it actually does is anyones guess.

I always thought it was just a way to mess with you and make the game harder to pirate, because of the way it used to require that you insert the CD of your previous EP. I think maybe they just dropped that part of the installation process, or something.

I can't even remember the last time I had to put in the previous eps disc. I would have remembered I'm sure, they are all on isos on my external, the legal copies are on a bookshelf, and it's a pain in the ass to get to them and get them to run.

I don't think that I've ever had it ask for the previous EP's disc, but it always asks for the first disc again. I figured that was so you can play the EP once it was done installing.  :P

No it's not that, we lost the power cord to something else sometime back so the externals power cord is never on it and for some reason I sometimes have problems with the iso being mounted from the external, I've had to move the files back over to the main computer a few times and it just takes so damn long. It would take less time to ransack the room looking for the cases.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: Soylent Sim on 2008 February 26, 02:39:07
Having game X ask for game X-1's disk would cause outrage from everyone who didn't care for a given pack.  What the updates looked like to me were asking for the base game discs.  How much of the update was for compatibility purposes and how much they were meant as an antipiracy method, I can't say.  (Although they suck at the latter, as they don't ask for base game discs if you've already patched it.)

And as someone who usually waits for the second patch before loading a game, I wonder what the BV final verdict is.  Have most of the bugs and instability been mostly ironed out, and are the features and stuff-style things really worth it?  Especially the bits that apply to the core 'hood, as the vacation features sounded very flat to me.

Title: Re: Bon Voyage Patch #2: Now on thesims2.ea
Post by: cwykes on 2008 February 27, 12:13:38
The vacation hoods just blew me away to begin with.  They brought back so many memories of my own holidays.  I'm not sure if it's got staying power once the novelty has worn off though.  You make the vacation fun by visiting all the other lots and picking up the memories, but I find I'm spending a lot of time looking at loading screens.  >:(   Effects back in the main hood tend to be a bit annoying - like the spread of hula/slap dancing and tai chi.  You also have to find space for the souvenirs unless you junk them.  I haven't bothered with the special collections that give boosts or otherwise - don't need them.

I haven't found it particularly buggy, but I don't have a clue about techie stuff like stability.

So what is the verdict, do we install both patches before FreeTime or does it patch automatically?

BV second patch is apparently not in FreeTime.  I believe the recommendation is to patch, then install.

Possibly is, FT seemed to think my BV was up to date, I had installed the first patch and was using a patched no-cd.
Just patch BV and then install FT. It cuts down on the possibly that your install with decide to fuck up at the "update" and then uninstall FT again.

2nd patch includes the 1st patch.

I already installed Freetime without installing the BV Patch. Is it okay to install the patch now or should I uninstall freetime and then reinstall the patch?

It installed for me just fine. I had forgotten to install the 2nd patch before FT install. It game me a warning that I had a newer expansion installed and to revisit the website for its patch, it then scanned and updated BV.

Weird, it told me I was up to date.  ::)

Apparently I need to update Direct X 9 or something. It keeps giving me error messages when I try to start my game.

I discovered via a different application that MS slipstreamed a new version of DirectX 9 sometime mid-late last year.  Version 9c, I think it is. Windows updater doesn't automatically install it -- you have to go to the MS site and download the installer directly.

Jelenedra, did you put the crack in the right place? I kept getting that error when I put the crack in the wrong place on BV. Majorly annoying brain fart. It has to go in the ..../TSBin folder, if I recall correctly.

Seriously. I was screaming at Addison. "I have Direct X10, bitch!" didn't make him cooperate. Putting the crack elsewhere did.

Oh to be a fly on the wall at Fuzzy Pumpkin's house...

As a person who just downloaded a crack and arrred version, it pleases me to say "baaaaa" for this tip.

I believe this is the problem. Putting the crack in the correct place did not retifiy the error, but I was told at PMNN that I should reinstall and try it again the correct way. So I was going to try that tonight, after installing the second BV patch. I forgot the first time.
