351  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons Patch on: 2007 April 03, 01:37:16
Hmmm, that could very well be the problem. I have the program pinned on my menu list. I'll check to see if I can access it another way.

ETA: Maxon, you're a genius! *huggles gratefully* Thanks for the tip!
352  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasons Patch on: 2007 April 02, 21:49:39
Stupidly, I installed Seasons and later on I installed the patch without checking to see if BodyShop worked in between. Now BS won't open at all. Is there a way to uninstall a patch, or do I need to reinstall Seasons to do that?

Yes, thank you for sending them to me. I quite appreciate it (by the way, I'm actually a she, but don't tell).

*runs off to find the more dangerous cowplant*

Err, I mean...thanks, Nailati. I appreciate it. Smiley

For faces 8 and 18, when I click on the FileHO links, I get this message:

What the hey? I'm assuming that the links you provided to the other file sharing site will work once that site has finished it's maintenance.

I seem to recall that someone posted the older version somewhere on the web.  I haven't even used them in ages, I really should because it's quite comical watching them run like lunatics, they remind me of me Cheesy
Ah, I forgot all about that. I'll try looking up the older version; thanks for the tip. Smiley Mortimer Goth, Don Lothario and Benjamin Long all got sick during their sojourn, but alas, none of them became deathly ill. >=(

I think I'll still keep the cowplant around for the next round of Pleasantview character deaths. since there's a chance that another townie that follows someone home from work could get eaten and wind up scaring someone to death.
357  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 23, 21:10:36
I've got VLC, great. Smiley Edited to add, though, that the greenness seems to be sporadic. For instance, with this certain video, if I try to play only it, it turns green right away, but if I add a video after it, it plays just fine. It's the darndest thing.  Huh
358  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 23, 20:56:10
Hmmm... what player are you using to watch the videos? And can you watch different ones, as long as they're first, but not ones after that?
Windows Media Player 11, and that's correct. It doesn't matter what video it is; I can watch the first one, but any others in the playlist suddenly turn lime green.
359  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 23, 18:23:09
Errr, I'm very sorry to return to this topic, but I have a question for those more knowledgeable than I. In the game, the new graphics card works great; however, I notice that when I go to watch some anime videos that I've downloaded, although the first one displays just fine, any subsequent ones played after that are displayed with the video entirely greenHuh What the hell? Is this a graphics card issue or a screen resolution problem? Current resolution is at 1045 x 768. To restate, the video card is a GeForce FX 5500.
360  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Household residents won't approach the Cowplant on: 2007 March 23, 02:04:06
Yes, I removed the stoves, but I left them for last (hoping someone would set themselves on fire, but of course no one did, despite there being three fires in total that just destroyed shit). I guess fire, starvation and drowning are the only ways to have Sims autonomously kill themselves then, eh? Pooh. That's no fun at all. Heck, even if I could find a way to get them to try to repair an appliance on their own, that would be nice. Oh well.

Heh, the general idea of my challenge was to create a household and divide it in two so that only males could enter one side and females the other and see which side would do better/worse. Unfortunately, all the Maxis Sim males I chose to set up there turned out to be not very neat.

It was quite funny to see them all jump into the pool, one by one, despite the fact that that they could clearly see that the ones that went before them were complaining about having no ladder to get out of the pool with.  Grin Sandy Bruty was hte eventual winner, but she missed a drowning death by mere seconds after Mortimer Goth finally succumbed to the pressure.
361  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Household residents won't approach the Cowplant on: 2007 March 22, 21:22:37
Definitely not. I've never even heard of it.
362  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Household residents won't approach the Cowplant on: 2007 March 22, 20:56:09
Okay, here's the deal: last night I was testing a new potential challenge of mine whereas I entered 8 characters from Pleasantview and would gradually remove all of their amenities until only one Sim remained alive (not allowing myself to direct their actions; they were on Free Will). The little buggers are stubborn, though, as by the sixth day they were all pretty much in the green, so I introduced a Cowplant into the household to see what would happen when I slowly removed their food sources. By the ninth day, only a townie (Ivy Copur) that had come home with one of the residents had been eaten. I had him milked and waited some more, but alas none of the residents would approach it, even if they were starving and couldn't get to the fridge to eat. I eventually had to install a pool with no ladder in order to kill any of them.

Has this always been so (the household not autonomously going for the cake)? If so, does anyone know of a hack that could enable them to go for the cake on their own without direction?

*finally gets CPU back*

0_0

My God! The Sims...they actually have fingers! And eyes...I can actually see their eye colors now! *swoons* This is amazing!

For the time being, this video card is a godsend to me. I'll probably just get a better card in a year or so when I save up enough money for an entirely new CPU altogether, but for now...'tis magnifique!
Denimjo: I've had that problem when I set my resolution and refresh rate higher than my cheap CRT monitor can handle. Just because the card supports a high resolution doesn't mean the monitor does. I never knew that until I had it happen.

I didn't know that either. It's good to know that now, though, as now that I actually have an icon where I can adjust the video card settings, I'll now know not to set the refresh rate too high (it's currently on the lowest setting).

And Katenigma, I only went with that card because it was the only AGP video card they had in stock (either better or worse than my previous card). And apparently, the only reason it wasn't working the first time was that I failed to notice that I needed to plug the monitor into the new socket. *blushes profusely* This would be an example of my complete and utter ignorance of computer hardware. Sad

Thank you everyone for your kind words and assistance! *blows kisses at everyone*
364  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 20, 18:53:49
Denimjo....Are you upgrading from Intel integrated graphics? I had the same problem. I had to take out the new video card, turn my pc back on and disable the onboard graphics. Turn the pc back off, install the new video card, and my monitor got a signal again. Read the troubleshooting tips on the cd that came with the card for more detailed instructions. Took about 10 minutes. I hope that's what's wrong as it is easy to fix. Good Luck!

To be honest, I have no idea if I had Intel integrated graphics or not. I'm too afraid to go messing around with the innards of my computer if I don't know what I'm doing, so I'm brining it back into Staples today to get them to fix it (which they can't do until tomorrow :rage:), but I'll be sure to ask them to give that a try. Thanks for the advice!
365  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 20, 06:48:53
Son of a ....  Lips sealed

I went to pick up my CPU with the upgraded card I specified earlier only to find that it didn't fit; I have something referred to as AGP instead of PCI Express. >=( So I had to purchase a lesser video card (I think it's a GeForce 5500 256Mb or something like that). What's even worse is that once I finally got my CPU home and hooked it back up, I couldn't get a signal on my monitor. Those fuckers! Now I have to wait an additional two dsays to get anything done about it (and possibly more, since they didn't seem to have anymore AGP video cards in the store). Sometimes I rue the day that I ever owned a computer. *sighs dramatically*

On a related note, could someone kindly tell me if they think my processor (Sempron 2800+ for those who didn't read my earlier post) is upgradable? Depending upon the cost (and feasibility of it, naturally), I may go for upgrading that first before I get more RAM.
366  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building/Upgrading a PC for TS2 - Update, 08 September 2006 on: 2007 March 17, 07:10:27
Well, I thought I might ask some advice from the resident people-who-know-what-they're-talking-about crowd. Smiley

I purchased a new video card today and am just waiting until Monday to get in installed on my CPU (I know absolutely nothing about installing hardware beyond that one time I added some RAM, so I figured I'd let the experts handle it). My question: will my CPU (more specifically, my processor) be able to handle it?

I'm pretty sure this is the card I bought (although the box looks utterly different, but that might be due to the fact that I bought it in Canada?). Here are my system specs:

Processor: AMD Sempron 2800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0 GHz
Current Video Card: VIA/S3G Unichrome IGP

If any other info is needed, please let me know. I seem to recall J.M. Pescado saying to me a while ago that my processor would be the problem with handling any sort of upgrades to my CPU, but can't quite recall what was suggested.  Embarrassed
367  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Rolling a Want for a Specific Major on: 2007 February 19, 15:50:00
Some Sims just never do (and end up Philosophy majors by default).  I think the trick is to roll the wants as many times as possible in the first Sim day or two.

Yeah, I tried that. She seems rather determined to not make a choice. I think I'll give her until the end of her feshman year to make a decision and if she still can't decide, I'll decide for her. Sad

I let all of mine roll up a want, with the exception of a very few who have interests of 10 in a subject area. Probably a slight majority of mine never roll up the want and end up as Philosophy majors. (I also let them decide if they want to join a Greek house or not.)

Occasionally they'll also roll up a fear of declaring a certain major.
Most of my Sims roll a fear at the same time as a want.
368  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Rolling a Want for a Specific Major on: 2007 February 19, 13:39:39
Normally I used to have my Young Adult Sims just arbitrarily choose a major as soon as they moved in, but once I found out that they'll actually roll up a want for a specific Major, I was greatly impressed and decided I would allow them to do that from now on. It usually seems to take about one Sim day for this Major-related want to roll up, but on this one Sim I have, she's already completed her first semester of her freshman year without having a Major-related Want or Fear appear.

I've seen her wants/fears refresh a number of times (as well as used the FFS Lot Debugger to refresh them) with no success. Any idea as to why she seems to refuse to want to choose a Major?
369  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Some Advice When Selecting a New Video Card on: 2006 December 25, 08:54:32
Well, my funds are rather limited (as is my technical knowledge about computer technology, natch). Please excuse me if this is an incredibly stupid question, but can the processor itself be replaced in the computer or do I have to purchase an entirely new CPU to upgrade that?

And jsalemi, if that card I'm considering would be overkill, do you think I could get away with adding the same card one level down (i.e. one that only provides 256 Mb of RAM) for better usage?
370  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Some Advice When Selecting a New Video Card on: 2006 December 25, 01:06:59
I was wondering if people here would be able to tell me if I'm about to make a huge mistake or not. I need to update my video card so that I can safely install any other EPs that are released if I want them (as I have been playing all the way up to Open for Business with an unsupported card) and have one in mind, and I was hoping that some of you more knowledgeable people could tell me if the one I'm looking at would be optimal or wouldn't work with my system.

This is the card I'm considering:
Link

And here are some of my computer specs:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2)
Display adapter: VIA S3G UniChrome IGP
Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) 2800+, 1.99 GHz, 448 Mb RAM

(If I could remember how to get the list of all the hardware up properly, I'd post that, but I can't. >=( ).

I'm also going to be installing an additional 512 MB of RAM if that will affect anything regarding this new (potential) video card. I
d really appreciate any input that could be provided. Thank you all very much. Smiley

ETA: If this information is helpful, I don't use any other graphics-intensive games on my computer other than TS2, so if this card would be sufficient for that game alone, I'm fine with that.
371  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a hack to remove the 'React to Dislike' action? on: 2006 December 21, 16:26:17
Try JM's 'Business Runs You' down in his forum here.
I'll give it a try, although having to install other hacks in order to get it to work makes me a little nervous. Thanks for the tip; I'll let you know if it worked or not.
372  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Is there a hack to remove the 'React to Dislike' action? on: 2006 December 20, 03:50:31
I've recently started a home business in my game (where there is only one person available to man teh cash register), but he keeps leaving his post because a customer doesn't like his paintings. Is there a hack that will remove this action altogether?
373  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mayday! on: 2006 November 18, 09:08:30
Yep, I saw that. Katenigma said the exact same thing earlier in the thread, and I also found a more detailed step-by-step run-through about how to go abouts doing it. But thanks for the response anyways. Smiley
374  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mayday! on: 2006 November 17, 20:44:09
Ah, fuck. Oh well. I don't feel the slightest bit bad about locating a KeyGen then, since I have already paid for and registered my copy of the game. Thanks for the confirmation, J.M.  Wink

The tutorial is pretty helpful actually, ZiggyDoodle, except for step one, which I neglected to do when I installed Pets.   Cry I don't actually mind doing the Dance of Eight Disks, but I just wish I wasn't so stupid as to forget about the serial code issue before I uninstalled everything.  Angry

You may all commence beating, kicking and mocking me now.

ETA: 0_0 I think the world is doomed. I was trying to see if I could contact A SimMaster on the BBS about getting my serial code back,  when I stumbled across this thread (which details exactly how to do what katenigma suggested). The message that helped me out immensely was by SkillzThatPay. My God..I never thought there'd be a day when the BBS could help me where J.M. Pescado couldn'tShocked Nonetheless, yay! I can reinstall!

Regardless, you may all continue to beat, kick and mock.
375  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mayday! on: 2006 November 17, 20:26:21
Awww, shit. I recently had a big to-do with my game, so I had to uninstall everything. Now I discover that my manual for Nightlife is missing.  Angry I have registered it already, but I don't want to have to fork over $10+ dollars and ship my CD to EA just to get my serial code back. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to retrieve my Nightlife serial code (bearing in mind that I don't have OfB and thus have no idea how to go about retrieving my code from the site itself)?

*kicks self repeatedly*
