301  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Proposition: Arranged Marriage Hack on: 2007 June 06, 05:21:16
I agree with this comment.

Soylent Sim, no one said anything about child brides; that's your own personal distaste for such a hack showing through. The request was just made for an 'Arranged Marriage' hack with the optional request that engagements be enabled earlier. If that's not possible (or no one is willing to tackle that), then that would be the end of it.
302  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Proposition: Arranged Marriage Hack on: 2007 June 04, 08:59:33
If this hack gets made, I'll certainly use it as well, Avalikia. Cheesy What a good idea; it would certainly speed things up a bit in my 'hood.

A problem I could see would be how to put an engagement tag onto a child (or younger) and whether or not it would automatically disappear when said child aged. Since the game really isn't set up to have children being engaged (I would assume), I'd imagine said hack would need extensive testing before it was considered a 'safe' hack.
303  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Frontier Farming on: 2007 June 03, 03:12:44
Technically you shouldn't sell the boquets, since it's a source of income other than farming, but it's such a time-inefficient way of making money with no community lot timewarp available that I think we can ignore it.

If you really are dead-set against any sort of income from anything other than crops, you could always specify that the bouquets and such should be placed in someone's inventory.
304  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 June 02, 02:43:00
Hey Denimjo, Li'l Brudder, et al:
How exactly are you using these random occurences? Do you have a system to it?

Well, the system that I use probably isn't the most efficient there ever was. I keep a copy of the .rtf file that Li'l Brudder so kindly provided earlier and use that to reference if I get something coming up where I'm not entirely sure how to enforce it. Example: The Psychotic Murderer option. I had to really trim it down to fit within the allotted space, so I just read off what's in the text file for elaboration. But I do have each section of randomness separately as well in case I want to have a random event geared towards something specific (like finances or family, etc.).

I do use the singular heading for the most part, though (the one with all of the options in one big list). So far I haven't had any deaths, but I fear my time will be up soon.  Lips sealed I also use it every three Sim days since my 'Legacy' family is getting really boring now that they've got the Education career reward. Maxing skills a day after becoming a child? Piece of cake. I haven't been brave enough to install Inge's awesome prison set yet, though, but I'm sure that'll be a lot of fun when a Sim has to be arrested when they're a single parent.  Undecided

Pardon the double post, but does anyone know if this works on a Mac?
306  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Placing Portraits on a Community Lot on: 2007 May 29, 18:23:25
Easiest way? Have Open for Business? Paint the portrait at home, place it in inventory. Buy the lot, place the portrait, then sell the lot back to the community.
[snipped]

And it won't sell the portrait when you sell the lot back to the neighborhood?

nope, I just did this a couple nights ago. it worked great!

Thanks to you all; I'll definitely be trying that now. Yes, I do have OfB. Cheesy

Quote from: zazazu
To build on, I have a graveyard with paintings done of every dead resident, before the Oversoul got angry and nuked the neighborhood. One resident owned the lot and others would just gift him the portraits and he would place them. Occasionally I'd get a portrait that wiped back to that sunset default, but otherwise it worked well. I saved the portraits as custom paintings, so if a wipe occurred I'd just have the owner paint it again.

This is the exact reason I wanted to know about this; thanks!
307  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Placing Portraits on a Community Lot on: 2007 May 29, 09:13:00
Is this possible?

I've already tried the boolprop dormspecifictoolsdisabled false cheat, and although this does enable buy mode so I can place a picture after I've painted one, the portrait disappears as soon as the Sim leaves the lot. I've tried using the InSim (I think) to enable save (clicking on a blank area, choosing 'Other...' then selecting 'Enable Save'), but it doesn't seem to work.

I have not tried rezoning said lot yet, though. Any ideas as to whether or not that cheat would allow changes to the lot to be saved afterwards?
308  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Random Character Creator on: 2007 May 25, 01:55:27
Okay, I'll post it here. Just remember: I did not create this program, and cannot remember the name of who first uploaded it (her boyfriend made the program). If anyone does know who made it, please let me know and I'll add the info accordingly.

I believe it requires net framework 1.1. to work.

ETA: The person who posted the program was ragemaiden; it was her boyfriend/fiancee that created the program.
309  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: The Compressorizer! Mass DBPF Compressing Program on: 2007 May 24, 08:35:26
Hmmmm, my Downloads folder must be terribly subpar: it went from 280 Mb to 261. Not a big change. I've been trying this program out on the My Documents/The Sims 2 folders one by one, but thus far have only seen an 8mb difference. Am I doing something wrong?  Huh

Also, when I try to add the Music folder, no files show up in the list (recursive was selected at the time).

ETA: Oh, I see. Now that I've selected the My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 folder, everything is getting selected. I may notice a bigger difference now.
310  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Random Character Creator on: 2007 May 23, 23:52:23
I can PM it to you if you want. I'd post it, but I can't remember who it was that originally posted it (also: Shoo Flee  has long since gone under).
311  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers Wanted - Realistic Sickness on: 2007 May 22, 18:49:51
Thanks for that, pioupiou. I guess I just assumed there was only one line 7. Shows what I know, eh?  Embarrassed
312  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers Wanted - Realistic Sickness on: 2007 May 22, 07:09:38
To change the-= to += you could also have used the wizard (the button that looks like a sort of hammer and sickle near the boxes with the numbers) it brings a more user-friendly window to make the change.

Oh. Well leave it to me to find the hardest way to do things.  Embarrassed

I have no idea why your true target is line 17, I don't remember changing anything other than the -=....
If I have time I'll take a look at your file compared to mine this evening (GMT+1).

Whenever you get around to it. Thanks. If it'll help you, this is a cut/paste of the original file (uploaded in the original post):

And here it is after I've edited it:

Oooh! I'll play translator (since it's obvious the OP actually isn't a native English speaker, otherwise I'd point & laugh).
Simsample, and other mates ask me for RCC, but actually and i definetly i will not more build stuff for ts2.
so i didn't know where to place this tools, that i suppose to be definetly lots (obviously that not), so i put it here...

"Simsample and some other friends of mine asked me to share this Random Character Creator. I won't be building any other programs for Sims2. I wasn't sure which section of the forum to place this in as I suspect this section is for sharing lots/houses (and this obviously isn't a lot), so I placed it here. If this is incorrect, I'm sure JM will move the post."

Anyways.... Hook's program, not as customizable, with pretties, in Italian.

Thanks, Zazazu. I got the first sentence, but in the second I couldn't figure out if they meant 'lots' as in houses or 'lots' as in 'plentiful,' since it's obvious they don't have English as a first language (as you pointed out). Smiley

This actually kind of reminds me of a program that I found at Shoo Flee a while back (before they closed) that was made by a member's boyfriend. His program featured personality points, aspirations and the turn ons and off. It even gave you an option for whether you wanted to include Grilled Cheese as an option for Aspirations, and you could choose whether the personality was 'normal' or 'volatile.' It was pretty cool, and used the same kind of appearance that this one does.
314  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 22, 04:12:20
I don't think it's possible to write a novel in 24 hours.  Last time I looked it took 30. Give 'em 36 hours and hope they have Platinum Punch and an energizer handy. Cheesy

A lot of these options require cheats or hacks, but there just isn't room to add those. Perhaps if I added some notes into the config file at the end. *ponders*
315  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 21, 23:57:57
Yeah, I've hit the character limit. I'm trying to think of a way I can summarize a few of them. Also, I notice that if you hit the limit, the remaining characters get shunted to a new entry. XD I've tried to make sure I've chopped them all down a bit.

Okay, I've got a test version of this handy if anyone would care to try it. If Jade has any objections, she can PM me and ask me to take it down if she likes (although I can't see why she would). Bear in mind that for convenience sake, I've made a separate heading for each category. If you want a truly random event popping up, just remove all the headings and you should get one from any of them.

I've also included a couple number generators at the end: 1 for d100, d4, d6, d20 and d12. Feel free to alter as you wish. If anyone has any ideas as to how this could be improved upon (bearing in mind the character limit), please let me know.

ETA: I've also added one that chooses one event from all categories (along with the number generators).
316  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers Wanted - Realistic Sickness on: 2007 May 21, 21:34:43
Denimjo, the boxes to the right with the numbers in? Tiny boxes, loads of them? You change the value of one of those, I think it was from 03 to 02. I have no idea either, it was just trial and error but that worked and the hack works.

Ahh, thank you! It was actually changing the '04' value in the sixth box to '03,' but you really helped me to figure it out. Thanks. Cheesy If anyone wants a copy of the modified file I've done (as helpfully pointed out by pioupiou and Aliana), here it is. Note: I've also changed the True Target value to 0x0008 instead of 17 so that it matches pioupiou's screenshot. If this was a mistake, please someone let me know immediately and I'll change it back and remove the file.
317  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers Wanted - Realistic Sickness on: 2007 May 21, 20:19:23
Please forgive me if I'm asking something stupid, but I've got the file opened up like in pioupiou's screenshot, but I'm not quite sure how to change the '-=' to '+=' within it. A little help please?   Embarrassed

ETA: Also, if you don't mind the question, pioupiou, the file I've got says 'true: 17' whereas yours says 'true: 8.' What is the difference?

319  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 20, 20:30:23
Thank you, Li'l Brudder!
* Denimjo double checks to make sure she put the apostrophe in the correct place.

ETA: Would it be considered poor taste to post a config file to incorporate JadeElliot's Random Occurence Scenarios here (with proper credit issued, of course)? I'm going to try contacting her through PM, but I'm not sure if she'll get the message.
320  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 May 17, 07:35:10
Actually, if you want to know the truth, the only reason I had wanted one was because I had accidentally had my Self Sim's daughter (who was going to be the heiress to the start of my new Legacy attempt) get struck by lightning in the hot tub (twice!) and she was killed. Her twin brother (who was best friends with her) failed to successfully plead with the Reaper to save her, so I thought the best thing to use to save her in Uni was a Secret Society Resurrecto-nomitron (they have one of those, don't they?). Ah well; it's a moot point now anyways. Cheesy
321  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 May 17, 07:18:24
All the Uni neighborhoods have a secret society lot already, except one. It's the Academie one. Try entering Academie and seeing if the SS lots show up in the bin. They won't show up in any of the other Unis because you can only have one SS lot and they already have them.

All NPCs, including secret society members, are generated on demand (when the game decides it "needs" them... whether you agree or not). The empty / clean templates do not stop NPCs from being generated. However, some hacks may prevent NPCs from being generated. For example, nossregen may prevent you from getting any SS NPCs.

D'oh! I forgot that Academie doesn't have a Secret Society. That's what the problem is. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Sad
322  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 May 17, 06:44:09
Silly question: after using these blank templates in the Uni hoods, will they still generate Secret Society Sims like they do with cheerleaders/mascots/professors, etc.? If not, do you happen to know of any way I could manually create a Secret Society again? I looked in the lot bin, but I didn't see any SS lots. Sad
323  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 17, 06:40:41
Somewhat related question: does anyone happen to have a list of JadeElliot's Random Occurrences that she had up on her site (before it went under)? That was really awesome terrific.  Lips sealed I thought I'd use this neat little program to shake up my families a bit when they get a little boring.
324  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about SimPE and Sim altering on: 2007 May 13, 19:21:59
Yup, that sounds like the best plan. Thanks everyone. Smiley
325  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about SimPE and Sim altering on: 2007 May 13, 10:17:53
Thanks for the .txt file, BastDawn. That's going to be very helpful. Smiley

And thank you for your assistance as well, Gwill. That pretty much kills my hope that I could change the appearance of an NPC to a Sim that I only had the DNA info for, but I knew that was most likely anyways. I was hoping to avoid having to create unnecessary characters in the game just to change the appearance of one already there, but it looks like there may be no avoiding that at all.

On a similar (but not completely related) note, I'm thinking...I do know that I could change the inherited DNA of a Sim by using those DNA lines of info. I wonder if I could copy the DNA of a female Sim from one 'hood, replace the genetics of an NPC with it in a different one and then impregnate said NPC with a clone of itself and come up with a perfect copy of said female Sim. I can't see how this procedure would be useful in any way at all, but it'd be interesting to see if I could do it.  Tongue
