126  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 February 07, 09:08:24
That was before I'd installed EPs...

The only time I've had the 'matrix' pattern was after deleting recolours, seems that deleting certain countertops will do that to the base that came with it. I just chalk it down to a poorly done rc and delete them both... would probably try a little harder to figure it out if it happened to a Sim though.
127  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2006 February 06, 12:14:05
Was this in build mode?  I can't think of what would cause that.  I had problems moving sims into an empty house who I'd upgraded to Uni status using the Lot Debugger, but that has been fixed now.

No, I'd installed the patch and tried to go back in to play. It crashed trying to load a house (that worked after Uni, pre-patch) I tried smaller lots that had also worked and it would load about half-bar, then crash again...

I decided to try the 'move Sims 2 folder' and let it respawn, but to no avail.
Using only Maxis hoods, I tried entering the Goth lot (first I saw)... crash. Tried smaller Broke lot - crashed. Tried taking a single sim from the bin and putting her on a new lot - crash. Tried CAS, tried an empty lot....

It gave me 1MB error logs, mostly that TS Audio log, which I looked up everywhere, though almost all discussion centered around incorrectly typed cheats (I don't use typed in cheats often and hadn't used it since installing Uni, so it wasn't that) and texture errors... can't find this, replacing with that... also a bunch of references to 'Grill Cheese and Pleasure Asp' which prompted me to check I had installed the Uni patch, not NL, (heh heh, no, I did not install the NL patch)

128  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 February 06, 11:59:57
When I went to change their face in the mirror they still didn't have any eyebrows. I had to put thoughs back on too. What could be going on?

Actually, in my 'blue faced Sim' neighbourhood, something (!?) happened that most of my Sims lost their hair and eyebrows.
I hadn't deleted anything, so it was really bizarre to see all these bald browless people, and there was absolutely no way to put eyebrows back on them. I even tried to export them and make new copies, but the new copies will not 'take' eyebrows or hair either.
I blame it on custom eyebrows (though I hadn't deleted any) and try to avoid using them now, even though they're so much better than the Maxis.
129  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random desktop crashes on: 2006 February 05, 08:40:23
I think I'll just skip the patch when I reinstall it, I only want to play for a week or two before adding Nightlife, so it should be ok unpatched til then (it was fine til I patched it)

I will add my stuff back slowly though... heh heh

(so... much.... stuff)
130  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE on: 2006 February 04, 10:15:15
All I did is copy the family string from the black hair and paste it into the family string of all the other hair.  They it smoothly transitioned across all the colors.  The hairtone should have the code that corresponds to the correct color red, black, white, blond.  That code you can find upthread.  Could that be your mistake? Not sure about the rest of yoru question. It's beyond my feeble abilities.

Darn, I was afraid of that.
I binned it first and made sure it worked before trying to make it 'family'. I pasted the 'string' (not code, heh heh) into the other colours and it disappeared. Then again, my game turned into a fiery ball shortly after, so who knows?

For the second part (sorry for such an incoherent post - too much coffee and no sleep Wink)

What I'd like to do is have Melodie's hair replace the Maxis hairstyles so they will show for all age groups instead of 'in addition to'.
I'm not thrilled about Maxis hair but it looks cute on toddlers, don't want to fill my bins with excess Maxis teen/ya/adult elder stuff just to get it for them.
131  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2006 February 04, 10:04:29
heh heh, my game has already blown up (not from this)

University worked great until I installed the Patch which turned it into a fiery ball. I couldn't even enter an empty lot in a newly generated game!?
132  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE on: 2006 February 04, 03:44:58
Thread necromancy again, but this is a great thread and I have a couple more questions.

I've been using PE to bin hair and delete the unwanted ages but apparently I'm confused on the family part. I just can't seem to get it to work.

I tried copying the family code from the first hair to the others, (ie. Family code from Black Property Set copied to Red Property Set(s) and Hair Tone XML) as well as copying to either and not the other but the 're-familied' hair never shows up. Obviously I'm missing something...

Another question, is it possible to have hair that's not available for all ages point to a specific existing hair?

I downloaded Melodie9s hair from MTS (extracted from Maxis and converted for toddlers/children)  unfortunately, it puts duplicate copies in age groups that already have it. I can delete the dups, but I'd prefer to have it point to the same hair for the existing ages. (ie. shortcute as a toddler will transition throughout a life unless hair is changed somewhere in between)

Either that, or I'd like to make a default hair replacement so that every half decent Maxis hair is available to all ages, possibly over ambitious for someone who can't even get Families to work, but I'd rather do it all now and get it over with so I can just play.

COMPATIBILITY:
Compatible with all FFS hacks. Tested for TS2NL v1.0p1. Theoretically works for
all versions.

Anyone else tried this without NL yet or shall I be the first to risk the Fiery ball of Incompatibility?
Just curious...
134  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is this bad? on: 2006 February 04, 02:30:30
It's called the Lot Sync Timer (I'm not commenting on the rest of the name  Tongue), and it can be found here.

thank you so much!

you clearly do not suck Cheesy
135  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help with blurring on: 2006 February 04, 02:25:28
You mean you turn it off even if you don't have to change something in it?

 Shocked
136  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random desktop crashes on: 2006 February 03, 06:35:45
I just don't get it, not only has my game been crashing non stop and generating tons of these error files (duplicate in tsaudio... 1M worth of blah blah in notepad) but I'm not even entering cheats.

I tried the old 'folder to desktop to generate new one' trick and it crashed again trying to load the first house in a default neighbourhood (completely bare newly generated game folder).

I just installed Uni a week or so ago and haven't even been able to play because it keeps crashing.

I seem to think this has only been happening since I installed the patch, which was a day or two after installing Uni... aargh.
Guess that means reinstallation after all Sad
137  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: University! At last! on: 2006 February 02, 14:21:10
I just installed it recently as well, and though I'm enjoying it so far (between crashes) I'm really disappointed that YA's have teen voices. I find teen girls have the most irritating voices in the game and it bites to have to hear more of them. I like the new instruments and the cow mascots, but not so much as the cow plant.

Brynne, are you just there so you can take a break from breeding? heh heh

138  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nina and Dina bore me to tears on: 2006 February 02, 14:16:08
hmm, I tried playing Pleasantville when I installed University (recently) and though I'd heard such wonderful things about about it, I found the whole place pretty dull.
Just clicked on a random house, Dreamers, well, they certainly put me to sleep. Tried the infamous Brandi Broke next and decided to make her kids the first to try Uni. I moved in the red head Calliente to help with the bills but she was pretty useless (except she seemed to like the toddlers) Dustin and his kid brothers turned into hideous YA's and I experimented with the Plastic Surgery to make them more interesting. Guess I'm just not good with Maxis Sims.
139  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is this bad? on: 2006 February 02, 14:11:39
Heh, if you use my Lot Clock, you CAN keep track of date of birth. Tongue Even if you didn't note exactly when they were born, you can back-date them once you install the clock based on the listed age of the sim.

Lot Clock? How is it that I've never heard of this magical thing and why can't I find it ? Sad
Anyone?
140  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Sit-On-Your-Hands Challege (unrefined) on: 2006 January 31, 09:44:07
It's on the official site:

Freewill/Hostel Challenge

the only Sims who'll really suffer are the Finance Sims and the really stupid ones.
141  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 31, 09:39:04
Pegasys - you'll have testers, probably more than you want. Wink

I also agree with the In Game Census, I think everything was mentioned, FN, LN, Household, Asp., Age, would be all I need, but I suppose I'll want the rest when I put in NL. Just adding my 'me too please'

There are times you're in the game and times you're not... I'd use both.
142  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Sit-On-Your-Hands Challege (unrefined) on: 2006 January 31, 06:18:19
Sounds a lot like watching paint dry.  Cheesy

Agree, though I am a terrible control freak and am occasionally pleasantly surprised at what they do when left to their own devices.. I couldn't do it. I don't like 'watching' Sims do stupid things, I like telling them to do smart things and pretending they were going to anyway. heh heh

I did the Freewill Challenge (8 Sims with no controllable hours) and had to leave the room before I burninated them for being so stupid and annoying (accidents 2 squares from the huge unoccupied bathrooms) When I came back the next day (10-12 hours later) all were still alive, 4 had maxed at least 1 skill, 2 were platinum (knowledge/romance) and one had been abducted...
143  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Just so you know... a neighborhood can only handle so many lot clones on: 2006 January 30, 13:01:41
I do the same thing as you... well, not exactly, I flatten one 5x5 lot then move it around to flatten the rest.
There are a few neighbourhoods that are relatively flat though...
my game just kicked me out so I'll have to edit when I figure out which ones (I use 3 or 4 'flat' neighbourhoods)

144  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a limit to the amount of offspring the game can handle? on: 2006 January 30, 12:55:48
I have one neighbourhood of uncontrolled spawning... 1 RomanceFamily pairing with around 30 kids, their breeding (Family) sons who have 4-12... A Family Sim with 16 kids who are doing their best to continue the tradition... Another Family Sim with 3 Romance sons... It's to the point where I had to introduce small families to intermingle them with.

With triplets and quads, it wouldn't be very difficult to get 100 kids off one Sim, particularly a male.

Good luck and keep us posted Cheesy
145  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help with blurring on: 2006 January 30, 12:47:57
I realize that 'smooth edges' is suppose to make the game look nicer, but I can't use it because it makes everything too blurry...
It could be that!? (in your display settings)
146  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Feed the baby somewhere else! on: 2006 January 21, 02:12:31
It's never quite that simple. Kitchens are usually pretty small, and for a sim to go anywhere else tends to mean he'll probably end up blocking something else, unless he performs a dramatic relocation to some distant spot, which gets even more silly.

even if the parent just stepped one tile ahead of the fridge, that must be a fairly universal 'free spot'?
147  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: REPOST - No Empty & No Mid-stream Stop Hacks on: 2006 January 20, 15:52:51
Are you using both the no-empty and no-stop hacks?

oops, sorry, apparently I didn't come back to this thread after posting.
I am using both, and have even deleted custom potties regardless of how adorable they are because this doesn't cover them and I can't bear to be without it.

but you can ignore me, I'm just on the base game and it really doesn't happen often (can't replicate it)
148  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: STOP ASKING TO BE READ TOO! on: 2006 January 19, 21:18:51
Not in the base game.

I just assumed the icon would still pop up in their queue and they would head off, but nothing comes up in their queue unless I send them to it. They'll happily skip work/school and not even know they've missed it.

Of course having the base game only also means I don't have a lot of the awesome hacks that may make that so.
149  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Outside garbage cans.... on: 2006 January 18, 00:01:42
*whew*....cause for some reason ALL my sims think that they have to empty the trash compactor every 2 seconds and take that 10 mile hike to the outside garbage can....what's up with that?

My Sims do this too, but only since I downloaded enough hacks that it's one of the few autonomous actions they have left. Mostly neat sims, but they're all vulnerable to it.

What I do is put it in a corner with 4 walls around it (2 tile room) so they actually have to go into the room to realize the trash has one can in it. It's really reduced the annoyance of those stupid Sims taking out the trash every time they're idle (and dropping it in the centre of the room when you queue them to do something else)
150  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis Message on: 2006 January 17, 23:55:28
I got that message when I tried Strangetown or whatever it's called.
I'd played the Spector home and moved out the girl, Olive died the next evening...for some reason I thought someone would inherit the value of the lot, but nope... just a message from Maxis...

I didn't feel admonished (I laughed)
