301  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? on: 2006 February 03, 03:08:14
Well, it's not really glowing but could object just stick an invisible lamp into the middle of a sim, making them some sort of moving light or something?  I personally think that would look better than having stuck-milk sparkles or the nightlife sparkle thing.  Then again, you might want that effect.  I know nothing about the SimAntics code so I don't even know if sticking a lamp in the middle of a sim is possible.

Downloading the Inteenimator kills kittens?  Oh well.

It's jase's fault that people kept bugging him about the inteenimator, people online are lazy and never want to read anything.  Heck, there's people that don't even capitalize their sentences.  It would have been smarter for him to just make a bunch of hacks like J.M. has done which each has a unique feature that doesn't depend on another.  Probably easier said than done though, since most functions of that thing rely on the WooHoo portion.

I used to use the thing, but then decided that I never even used much of the functions that are unique to it.  If I decide I want those features later, I might reconsider downloading the thing.  The fact that it conflicts with part of Pescado's Clothing Tool and the fact that it won't be updated make me wary of downloading the thing.

I'm really surprised this isn't in TS2, this is one of the things I really used a lot in TS1.  I also liked to see how many days I played, and all that other stuff.

Well, I had an object a long time ago called Carrigon's Magic Voodoo Bottle or something that told the networth of a sim, but I'm not certain where you would get it.  My guess would be VariousSimmers but I haven't been there in a long time.
304  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: But it seemed like such a good idea at the time! on: 2006 February 02, 22:46:19
Custom mesh objects don't really appeal to me too much.  Maybe it's because I really didn't find any of them that are low-poly that look that good or the fact that they still use the same animations.  I wasn't too crazy about recolors either, maybe I've just become more accepting of Maxis stuff than I was in TS1.

A 8GB download folder?  Wow, I wonder what the limit is on the size of the downloads folder.  I believe in TS1 you couldn't get even half that size in the entire Sims folder.

Here's an idea, remove all the custom content which is not made by you or anyone at MATY when you install a new expansion.  Then, download your crap.  You'll find your download folder being quite a bit lighter, since you probably won't download stuff that you got in a TSR shopping spree that you never saw since the day you installed it.

Simply, you don't need 50 outfits for every sim.  Plus, there's a bunch included in the expansions.  Keep a few that you like, but you might want to go through the game periodically to get rid of the ones you don't use.  Also, don't use download managers such as QExpress or Sims2Pack to install anything other than houses.  These add stuff with garbled names which make it even harder to remove sims or clothing without entering the program.  Also, they might add unwanted content and a sim file which you will probably never use unless you downloaded a MATY animal or something.

Skins take up quite a bit of space, but meshes take up more.  If you're not using any of the meshes in your folder, toss them.  As a look at my DL folder right now, I've got 2 that are about 700K in size.  That's about 2% of my downloads folder currently, and I know how many people download tons of those.

My downloads folder?  It's 97MB and my game loads in about 5 seconds.  However, it may be because my computer is fairly recent and has 1GB of ram.
306  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harder finances hack? on: 2006 February 01, 01:53:09
I would really like an income tax hack.  It would make the game more realistic, and with a bill increase it would mean the second generation would actually have to work for a living.  Hey, that scholarship money in University has to come from somewhere.
307  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New Open for Business Video 1/05/05 on: 2006 February 01, 00:52:48
If Pescado doesn't get this expansion, then I won't get it.  It's that simple, I can't play the game without the hacks that make the game run smoother like notownieregen, and others that make it harder like no20khandout.  They're gonna add about 100 more sims in this new expansion, and I believe there's already 380 sims in a neighborhood with just making new areas.  Not to mention that most of these sims that are spawned have similar personalities, and some even look exactly the same.  Besides, I'm not crazy about the idea.

You already get a lot of money by just doing jobs right now, OFB will make this even easier.  The object that you were supposed to save up for would be the car, but they're incredibly cheap.  Sure, there's new features like calling people in other's phonebooks but you actually have to use the damned business function for that.  That's one of the reasons people hate University, because you're forced to do meaningless tasks over and over to get some poor benefits.

What I don't get is that not many people liked Superstar, yet they're going nuts over Open For Business.  It's practically the same exact thing except one makes your sim famous and the other has you running your own business.  Heck, I'm wondering if they'll put that Mastermind like game to try to make the thing a challenge like they did in Superstar.
308  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harder finances hack? on: 2006 January 31, 00:56:58
I was utterly disappointed on how easy University was, even with a CAS moron.  Also, the rest of the game was even easier.  Anyone with an Art Major could be level 9 in the Slacker Career.  That means a lot of time at home and a lot of money.  Not to mention the LTW system that just makes the game really boring.  I'm also surprised that people still need money cheats at all in this game.

I really like Pescado's hacks that actually put sims at a disadvantage such as the no20Khandouts.  It's awesome to have sims that are poverty-stricken and not being able to have proper bathrooms.  Along with his new hack allowing sims to not get promotions as easy, the game might actually be a challenge.
309  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Open for Business, preorder incentive on: 2006 January 26, 23:09:22
People need to freaking stop with this "eMachines suck" crap.  It's the hardware that sucks, not the manufacturer.  eMachines just tends to go cheap with their computers and shove anything that they currently have in the warehouse onto it.  That's how I got stuck with a 1.3GHZ Pentium 4 with 128MB RDRAM, a 32MB nVidia Riva TNT 2 card, and Windows ME.  However, it performed better than other computers that other people had at that time.  I heard people running TS1 with 256MB ram having more problems than I did.

Then, I bought one again.  They're pretty damn cheap for what you get, and this time I got a pretty good setup.  Athlon XP 3000+ with 512MB DDR Ram, a 64MB Geforce 4 MX 420/440 card, and Windows XP.  I added 512MB of RAM since then, and the game runs without many flaws although I can't increase my resolution.  I blame that budget card, but I doubt I'll put another one in since I don't care that much about graphics.  Besides, I doubt a graphics upgrade will make much of a difference in the looks unless I spend over 200 dollars on it.

Yeah, if you buy an eMachine with a Celeron processor it's gonna suck.  Also, low-end Dells tend to have those "Intel Extreme Graphics" and I doubt they'll run better and they'll probably cost more than mine.

As for the Mascot thing, it reminds me of the "Buy Superstar and you get free celebrities!" thing.
310  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nina and Dina bore me to tears on: 2006 January 25, 02:18:25
I believe whenever I played that household I always married Nina to Don, but I usually didn't do anything with Dina.  I haven't even played the Calientes since NL.  I hate playing those horrid Maxis sims for some odd reason.
311  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife = Uni? on: 2006 January 19, 03:22:32
So, we shouldn't buy OFB if we don't plan on using businesses since any new social interactions and build mode objects will be in the next expansion anyway?  They did this sort of thing in TS1 too, but it seems that half of each expansion is given in the next expansion.  If this is true, then if you don't like the subject matter you can just skip an expansion and get the next one and still get a bunch of the features.
312  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis wants pregnant sims to waste away? on: 2006 January 14, 19:56:49
Did they honestly make it that much harder for pregnant sims to eat from UL to NL?  Honestly, if you didn't want them to put themselves face first into food then you would give them some rest before eating.  I believe these complaints came from strategies that barely worked in the base TS2 game, and NL amplified it.  You need the Hunger and Energy meters constantly for those sims, and always try to keep hunger the best it can be.  If all else fails, use the energizer aspiration award.  Either that, or go back to the safety of your mood-refreshing paintings.

I've also noticed that inefficient homes tend to kill pregnant sims.  Try not to make them go up and down stairs, especially ones that are often used.  If possible, keep a bed downstairs near the kitchen.

I don't think I'm going to get into the other side of the discussion since I don't know much about it.  I will say though, that feature of jase's inteenimater mod does prevent the death of the mother due to accelerated hunger and energy decay.
313  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics question on: 2006 January 13, 04:19:35
I also like the abductions, but I'd rather have them not go to that lot.

I've got this problem too, but it tends to be with objects instead of sims.  I've assumed a long time ago that it was my freaking 64MB card, so I really haven't asked anyone about it at all.  I use a Geforce 4 MX 420 or 440.  I don't remember which but I bet there's not a difference.  I can't really use the trick with the nVidia card drivers like you all described, because I'm using the Omega Drivers since I couldn't get Civilization 4 to work without it.
314  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HACK REQUEST: more want variety for teens and uni students on: 2006 January 13, 04:06:50
I don't even bother with University most of the time.  I found out that most of the Sims that did go to Uni always got worthless wants afterwards about calling their friends.  I just use Pescado's Lot Debugger to give certain sims the extra locks and wants slots.

I believe since I've installed nodormieregen and used deleteallcharacters on my neighborhood before making playable sims, I doubt the thing is even playable in large dorms anymore.  I'd probably have to shove them in private residences or those tiny 4-room dorms.
315  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Alien/Zombie/Vampire on: 2006 January 08, 05:43:37
Well, I expected a mix of them to be something like that.  The Alien skintone was lost with the Zombification, and the eyes were lost with the Vampirism.  Essentially the only alien thing of him left is his genetics, and I think passing the alien skintone to the offspring... That is if he's still fertile.

I'm wondering how the game treats an Vampire Zombie in the game, do they get the worst of everything or do they just act like Vamps?
316  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Zombies on: 2006 January 08, 01:42:12
I just find the zombies too slow, and once you change a sim it's permanent.  The only time I would actually decide to transform them is when I just want use them as Cow Plant fuel.  Even then, I don't use my own sims.

The only sims that I Zombified were the Maxian sims Mortimer Goth and Dina Caliente.
