26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Married twins on: 2008 April 27, 19:46:07
Why would there be genetic effects for inbreeding?

O_o because there are in real life?

After several generations of inbreeding, there is an increased occurance of traits caused by recessive genes, which may or may not be deterimental.  While inbreeding is a universal cultural taboo for good reasons, one occurance of incestuous reproduction isn't going to net anyone a three eyed baby or anything.

Exactly. I suppose it depends on what Swiftgold meant by "genetic effects", but it's a common myth that inbreeding causes defects. It doesn't. It just reduces genetic variability and brings out any defects that may already be present in the bloodline. Given the fact that sims don't have any defective genes, there's no reason for inbreeding to affect them at all.

Yeah, the only effects the Sims can end up with are That Horrible Nose or That Hideous Jawline. If there were other things they inherited it might be more interesting, but...

I kind of wish there would be genetic effects for inbreeding. My experiment just made the kids look more and more like the vampire father of each generation, though oddly enough the female twin of the last generation has the throwback brown eyes of her aunt-slash-great-grandmother, while all the others have ended up with the blue eyes of the vampire.
28  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seasonal Age Project: RFC (Request For Comments) on: 2008 April 17, 16:33:11
Since I play with 1 day = 1 year, helped by making pregnancies one day long with a hack instead of 3 (for humans anyway; immortals get to keep 3 days for longer gestation period), I always just figured that the Sim world just has seasons that are four years long. It's not this world, anyway, so hey.

Though I do wish for more random ways for Sims to die that don't involve me making them do out of the ordinary stupid things - car accidents, for sure. It's kind of too bad Inteen isn't updating because I've always wanted a random "die in childbirth" to go along with the miscarriage possibility that doesn't involve me -choosing- outright to kill them. I've done this a few times when the story called for it, and there are some lovely headstones in the park's lake thanks to my mad scientist vampire zombie, but it really spices up an otherwise boring family's story when the random unexpected occurs, especially if it means things I never see or do like the social worker coming or kids being orphans.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Headmaster WTF moment. on: 2008 April 17, 16:19:16
I always age them up when the popup hits cuz I want to see how they'll look and get on with it, indeed. I just figure for it when I adjust the teen and adult age spans and the synching thing...
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game keeps minimizing on: 2008 April 14, 17:01:18
This was happening to me for a while - I'd start it loading, go do something else, and then find that the game had minimized itself and my new monitor was giving out a "can't run 3d" type of error. I would maximize it again and it would run fine, and it never did this while I was actually playing. I finally discovered that it was my screen saver popping up during the load time - or trying to, but failing - so I set it to pop up after 45 minutes instead of 4 minutes, and I haven't had it happen since.

This seems to be working just fine for me. However, I did bring an elder couple on vacation with this installed. Both of them went out to the vacation comm lots together from their hotel, and no one else was left behind or anything. So I played with them on comm lots all night and then returned when they were tired. I got the popup telling me how many hours they would be away (that is new from the last version) and then I got to watch all the tourists swim and stink and beat each other up for 12 sim hours, which even on three-times speed was kind of a while.

It made me wonder if this hack could allow itself to be bypassed somehow when everyone on the lot leaves during vacations, anyway - if I remember correctly, that's how the vacation lots work normally? You come back to the hotel around the time you leave the comm lot? I remember it happening on my first vacation anyway, without this hack, when I took a few of them to comm lots and the rest "lost" the time when they'd came back in the morning.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 09, 23:05:01
I've only done one, but it seemed to work okay, in the "computer bar" comm lot that came with Nightlife. Of course the escaped prisoner who wasn't supposed to be there and who'd just sat down won it, but what can you do...
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fears and Wants that don't trigger on: 2008 April 08, 15:58:06
I've noticed the pleasure sim/comm lot want to Soak In Hot Tub never fires, too.
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Overriding Business-related wants on a Home Lot--Possible? on: 2008 April 07, 20:33:45
I had Sims roll up wants to fire the employee and do other business owner related things when they were merely visiting a community-lot owned business belonging to someone else... that was just with OFB newly installed, so I don't know how things work now, as I haven't sent anyone to that lot while playing them since  Undecided

With my romance-sim "brothel" home business they occasionally get business wants but not to hire people, so I'm not sure where that would be coming from. There are plenty of lot residents though, so maybe after a certain number they don't want to hire anymore.
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Did Freetime do this to my game?! on: 2008 April 07, 17:09:49
Also someone please MAKE A DIDDLY DADDLY DARN ANSWERING MACHINE! I cannot believe how much the phone rings, completely useless! And I'm not sure if it's me but I noticed that friends would call my sims more and more persitantly. Even when both the relationship levels are rather low they would call at least once a day every sim day!

Not an answering machine, but I use the caller ID function of the controller for the DMZ... whatever those pay NPCs are called, I forget. But anyway, the controller wall thing with the temperature on it has some misc hacks and it also has a caller ID to let you know who's calling and who it's for. I ARRed it when it went pay for the caller ID alone, but if that was part of the phone hack it wouldn't be necessary... at least that lets you know if you should bother making them drop everything for it or not, though!
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What about "Diaries are for 12s" ? on: 2008 April 02, 16:39:48
Hahah, add in another Sim stuck behind them in the back of the room and you got it in one  Grin
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What about "Diaries are for 12s" ? on: 2008 April 02, 16:12:31
Just started a "freewill" house to see what would happen if I left them pretty much alone, and one of the first things one of Sims did was write in the diary in the basement until her hunger was orange - I finally broke rules and canceled it out because I'd just started the dang thing and didn't feel like having one of them die on the first day after I went to all the trouble of cloning them from another neighborhood. It was absolutely ridiculous - as was when two of them sat down facing each other and clutched the diaries to their chests and didn't move for three hours because of the other one.
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Ramaswamis are clones.... on: 2008 April 01, 22:29:44
*Does* that pregnancy token thing affect fertility besides just twins? I've had several Sims who Woohoo all the time, especially now on ACR, and either never had kids or it took upwards of 30 or more Woohoos... maybe it's just sado-randomness, but at the same time I do like having -some- of my Sims who don't breed...
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Some Pet questions - mostly about genetics and memories on: 2008 March 26, 18:33:27

Thanks for going out of your way on that one - a clue where to look would have been fine.  I haven't been by ATS in a while - the only ATS thing I have in my game right now is clothing, though there's nice bedding there as I remember.  I'm trying to cut down on CC!  Inge's wooden petbath is here http://www.simlogical.com/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Petting.htm Thanks Kyna - I should have looked there for sure.

Is there a way to make a certain custom bath pets-only in SimPe, I wonder? I have the wooden one with the pump that I downloaded after reading the Simlogical thread which I keep outside for dog washing, but now with the visitor bath and shower enabling from dizzy I have visitors using it all the time :\ I'd love to be able to edit that thing so only dogwashing is available, and then my shack houses with the outdoor tubs can still be used as normal.
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Features from other EPs carried over into Free-Time on: 2008 March 26, 16:31:01
The room dividers are great for poor sims in small houses, so the crib can be in the living room and the tv won't keep the sprog up.  They also work great for isolating pet beds the same way.

I don't suppose there are any hacks that prevent radios/TVs from waking pets up, are there? Realistically they shouldn't even care if there's noise, and most animals I've known love to sleep on/by the couch with you while you're watching TV, but then again, it is the Sims...
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 26, 16:17:36
With the gypsy, I get the lamp and tons of random townies showing up at my sims' door at random times at night. Ones I've never seen before.
Walk-bys seem increased. I get a family member walk-by nearly every single day, on all of my lots. Sometimes they just barge right in, sometimes they stick around in the yard until either they get bored or are invited in. When I do invite them in, a random townie my sims may or may not know comes in a half hour to hour later, uninvited, and they were not on the lot at the time the family member was greeted.

It's much too frequent to be sadorandomness.

I think they're increased, too... I have one of those process-walkbys hacks in (dizzy's, I think) and now I occasionally have pileups of visitors and their pets by the mailbox, so I wonder if the hack is doubling the increased walkbys. Possibly it's just that hack doing its thing, though.
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bork List: Freetime Ed. on: 2008 March 26, 16:11:15
My train set caught fire.  Shocked

A child was playing with it, and had just started playing when it caught alight. Soon the whole thing was burning and she was, too. I got the fireman in, who put the fires out. The child did not die but her bladder and hygiene were in the red and she had heatstroke. She fainted from heat, peed on the floor and then passed out from tiredness. Fortunately I got her to eat on time so no social worker came.

Sprinklers and fire alarm are now duly installed in the games room.  Tongue

Simwardrobe has a fix to prevent it from catching fire, I believe. Heh, I work at a railroad museum, so some days I wish the model layout would catch fire, but no luck there so far Tongue
43  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Should I be able to walk to community lots? on: 2008 March 17, 16:06:20
I've had this issue since BV as well - they can take the taxi anywhere fine, but if they walk they appear in the middle of the lot (not on the sidewalk by the sign where they should) and then disappear. I think I was able to get it to work a couple times in the main hood, but never on vacation.

I was able to pause it before they disappeared last night and queue up some actions, but it disappeared anyway, and there were no NPCs. Though everyone said it was the visitor controller, it doesn't seem to be for me, and it's still doing this with FT even though I've updated everything, nixed a lot of non-awesome hacks, and currently don't have either puppy or kitten killers installed. Since I can still get around it, it's not a game-breaker, but it's definitely annoying.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: This... BFF spam on: 2008 March 17, 15:49:31
Ahh, I see that family is included... I kind of wish it wasn't (at least the family in the house with them), but I'll be happy as long as the deaduns get squashed sometime. And ooh, I always forget about the shift-click and the lot debugger, thanks! It's such a minor issue, but sometimes those are the most annoying in this game, sigh...
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / This... BFF spam on: 2008 March 16, 20:50:07
So I broke down and got Freetime... I spent time preparing and so I haven't had any bugs or things so far. It's pretty fun to try to find what their OTH is, even if in some cases I have to change it because it really doesn't fit.

Unfortunately, however, this BFF memory spam is starting to make me cross. I have BFFs Are For 12s in, but it doesn't seem to be doing much, unfortunately. I've played a few families so far and one of my adult Sims has two whole rows now of this "Made a BFF!" and of course it's all their families, which is especially annoying because of course they've been best friends with their family members since they were babies. The worst one, however, I just discovered with one of my "when are you going to die already" elders, whose BFFs are all dead. BFFs are for the Living?

Anyway, if I remove this spam from their memories by hand, will it just come back again? And if there are any other limiting hacks on this thing, I'd love to know about it - especially anything that curtails BFFs that are dead and BFFs that are their mothers Tongue
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Lot Sync Timer: how do YOU use it? on: 2008 March 14, 02:13:57
Once I finally got my monster 'hood synched with the furthest-played family (79 Days with my favorites, sigh,) I figured out by everyone's memories roughly where everyone should be and manually adjusted some Sims' ages to match. Then I took on the task of synching all the families to 79 Days, with the furthest behind at 59. It took a while, since I also have 30-odd houses, but it's not too bad. I have a big ol' plot going so most of the time it's pretty fun, and I try to consolidate some households when it's possible. Got everyone to 79, made sure everyone was on the same day of the week, etc, and it was all good. I love the synch timer Tongue

Now I play in chunks... I find that three days over the Sim weekend and five on weekdays gives me the most to do with being the least boring. Currently synching everyone up to 85 Days before I go ahead again, heh. I equate each day to a Sim year, so if I want to sneak more time in now with BV I send my favorites on vacation for a few days. Since they come back on the correct day and don't age, it works well. I also use the bio to remind myself what day everyone's on, and currently the season.
47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Always twins in any pregnant. Help!!! on: 2008 March 14, 01:55:29
I've been playing the same hood since the base game and there are definitely stretches where I'll have a ton of twin births in a row, I think three or four once. Now that they're synched I can't look back at the list and pick out the trend so easily, since some were so far ahead, but it was a definite trend. I also have one family in which the kids are twins with an older single sibling, their father's a twin with an older single sibling, and HIS father was the same. I'll be disappointed when that trend ends, as it must Tongue
48  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: NPC Creator - Make Vacation Sim (Local) fix on: 2007 October 31, 01:58:59
Hmm... so, have I done something wrong, or is it EAxis-normal for locals from one destination to go walking around in another? I generated new island locals, got them with the correct dances and gestures, and then went to the mountain one and found them visiting comm lots there. They were made from the Tropics section in the NPC generator and afterward assigned to the Tropics family with this hack, and otherwise they seem to be working fine...

50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage Woohoo Memories on: 2007 October 24, 00:39:23
ZephyrZodiac, about Smart Beds...  where are they?  I can't find them here or at Inteenimator and I can't find them with Google.  Do they go by a different name?

Reason I ask...  Whenever I invite a vacation simmie for a three day stay, they never go to sleep.  I wish there was some device that would allow me to assign a bed for them so they didn't try to watch TV for 72 hours with energy close to zero.

I don't know if Smart Beds fixes that (it is on the Inteen site but you have to be registered to see it as it's still beta for BV, at least last I checked), but Dizzy has a hack in the Peasantry section here that fixes the beds for visitors and the showers, etc. as well, I believe.
