3576  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Snowstorms lure Sims to the pool? on: 2007 May 04, 15:53:54
MATY access has been fine, it's just been slower than <insert cliche here> and has been causing lots of time outs for me.

As for the snow-pool conundrum, my suspicion is that it's part of the major route-finding issues sims are having in Seasons. (aka, not being able to walk around the corner of a house even though a path 3 squares wide is open). I had one particular home that had an admittedly small back yard (1x2 lot). The pool was in the back, with a 2 deep path all around it and also wrapping around the sides of the home between the fence and the house. Basically, the path was a big letter A, with the rectangular pool being the dead space up top and the home underneath the butt. Sims still chose to dive into the pool, swim to the ladder, and climb out to go to the tail end of the A-shaped yard to make a snowman. And proceeded to become icies. If I did a "Go Here" sequence to get them to the same spot, they proceeded normally.
3577  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Help With Homework on: 2007 May 03, 22:05:06
If it's autumn, the homework help is accelerated so they get the memory before the homework is finished.  Also, at Uni, when doing a term paper during autumn, they finish writing the paper when they're actually at about 70%.
It was 2nd day of Spring for me. I haven't had homework "taught" in Fall yet, but an increase then would make sense.
3578  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Help With Homework on: 2007 May 03, 18:27:42
Doesn't it usually takes like 1 1/2 homeworks or something like that to actually get the memory of being taught to study?

I thought the want actually gets satisfied when the homework is completed... but maybe it only gets satisfied when they learn to study? (But I also thought that was a different want altogether...) Undecided

Ste

Used to be that it needed to be one homework, but 100% of it had to be supervised to count. Last night I had one stop doing her homework (Daddy's home!!!!1111!!) at about 68% finished and she got the memory. Could Seasons have borked this? I knew there were way too few bugs this time around....
3579  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deadly expensive hot tubs on: 2007 May 03, 18:09:06
In case you've missed it, Syberspunk has a hack in testing that won't necessarily eliminate hottub + lightning deaths, but should lessen them. It makes them exit it during the rain based on their logic points and memories of past electrocution.
3580  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Kitty Condo on: 2007 May 03, 18:02:46
I wonder if it has to do with where the condos are placed? I had one cat try to sleep on it but kept being woken up by the radio which I always leave on. And the condos end up being in the living rooms since I have the most space there. I wonder if a hack exists to keep the pets from waking up around a TV/radio... my real cats (of which there are six between us) have no problem sleeping with the TV blaring.

They're contrary little snots, aren't they? Tongue Oh, they'll play with the cat toys, sure, but their favorites are Piece of String/Shoelace, Heart-Shaped Pencil Topper, and Ball of Foil.
My cat condos have always been in a bedroom, except for the one dedicated pet room I've had. Still, barely any cats using the condo, and very inconsistently. The advertising must be super low is all I can figure, but I wouldn't even know how to check. I'm not a whiz at SimPE. Doing CAS template replacements took me three tries because I kept borking it up.

My older cat rarely plays with any toys, and then only ones that rattle. He prefers to pounce on the little one. The little one is always losing his toys under closet doors and couches and the tv stand. Doesn't matter. His favorite toys are my hair clips, which are insanely annoying to hear clinking around on the wood floors at night. The bastards can open drawers and doors, too, so it's a pain to hide them.
3581  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 02, 21:57:47
Generating names:  MikeInside has a great random name generator.  Here's the link:

http://mikeinside.modthesims2.com/family/index.html

It shouldn't be too much trouble to generate multiple things from one list, for use in turnon/off.  I can think of a couple of ways to do it right off the top of my head.  I just want to make sure that you can give red hair, for example, a high weight and still have the program work. Smiley  In the mean time, you can run the program multiple times until you get three different things.

Hook

I used to use MikeInside's, but I really don't like firing up a new program while the Sims is up. Not that Addison can't handle it, it's just an old preference from my laptop days. Plus, having an all-in-one customizable one is lovely, right? Theoretically, we could just set it up to randomize every little thing about a sim...would help immensely with custom townie creation. What I'm saying is....this is fantastically customizable and thanks a million. Great framework.

Edit: Got a chance to really play around with it and configured something to give an output as below. .txt file included in case anyone wants to build off it, since there's 1500 last names and approximately 1200 first names used. Last names are from public US Census data, first names are from Keep&Share, and ad-riddled free list site.

Use "Myne" Doors. Get lesswhiny. Problem solved.

the Myne doors prevent the skillinator from seeing the skilling objects, I presume?
I don't use the skillinator. I know, I'm behind the times, but it doesn't bother me. As for only using the doors on the bedrooms....nah. I used them on the front door to the whole "apartment". You're right though, dizzy, it could cause problems with the ACR if a harem room isn't included or if the door isn't unlocked. I wasn't playing with ACR the last time I had a building going.

I run dorms the same way....itty bitty 1x2 rooms for the dormies so that I can have plenty to amuse me with a couple public baths, but large suites for my playables. My new dorm I've just set up has a huge harem suite on the first floor, since I figure the kids of my current going-at-it-like-bunnies couple will need to do the same. Plus I'm using that required degree hack so I actually, like, use Uni.

Is this mode made to grow up servos?
I asked a servo to grow up and she changed her look from servo to sim and became an elder.
She also kept her servo needs.
Did you try aging her back to an adult and seeing what happened? I'm thinking of that movie with Robin Williams....uh..."Bicentennial Man". Now I'll have to try this mod. Before I didn't see much difference between this and the agesims cheat already in-game.
3584  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Plantsim thingie on: 2007 May 02, 18:17:31
If you take half of half ad infinitum, you never have 100% of anything, but yeah...it would be possible to have, say 99.99% of the genetic material be from the IP.

I actually like the replacement, but why brown eyes? I'd use green for more variety in spawn as well as the fact that green just makes sense.
3585  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: RandomStuff: Configurable "dice rolling" program on: 2007 May 02, 16:56:40
Hm, I use these: aspiration die. Revised ganked-over die that I don't recall who made originally, so I don't take complete credit. I like having something physical to toss around. However, this will help when Mikko decides to chew up my current one. Plus, I don't like my current set-up for astrological sign choice.

Thought: You could actually add a random name generator on to this. It would require a lot of text addition to the coding, therefore bloating the file, but could almost be better than using a die + the random name generator from babynames.com.
3586  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Terrain Paint Tool on: 2007 May 02, 16:14:01
Yes, I have Seasons.  I *think* my feeble video card just can't handle the cc that I added this week.  I try so hard not to shop, but I caved in and aquired an object with a custom animation.  (It's very naughty, too, but not at all Awesome, I'm sad to admit.  Although the Hack Conflict Utility says it's acceptable.))

My computer can't handle the snow tool, either.
I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the video card. My baby can handle everything on the highest settings easily (with a slight slow-down during heavy snow) with no graphical oddities, but I still haven't seen the area indicator since around Nightlife time. Or somewhere around there. Time blends for me.
3587  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Plantsim thingie on: 2007 May 02, 15:56:23
Plantspawn are pollinated from the "Ideal Plantsim", a buttugly mofo that does not appear on the fambly tree, much like the Pollination tech didn't around NL-ish, before they apparently hacked a special exemption for weirdo NPCs.
Oh, great. Looks like I'll be waiting until someone's hacked some IP replacements to go with my PT replacements before spawning some spore-babies. I'm having a run of ugly kids as it is. Bad genetic splicing, bad!
3588  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Authorized Personnel Only Security System v5.0 on: 2007 May 01, 20:27:38
At the risk of necromancy, I have a question...

Is the option to Set Route Blocks supposed to stop macrotastics from attempting to send sims into a room they're denied access to? if not, any chance of making it so?

I'm trying to build an "apartment building" for playing various single-n-poor sims who would otherwise waste space in a house all their own, but I would reallyreally like it if they'd stay out of their neighbors' apartments! This successfully stops them from trying to autonomously watch their neighbor's tv... it *seems* to stop them from putting their freshly-delivered groceries into the neighbor's fridge, but they'll stop at the door and complain first. But if macrotastics decides that, for example, the neighbor's easel is the best place to skillinate, or the neighbor's toilet needs to be peed in? The sim will freeze at the door, while the macro icon flashes in queue at ridiculous speeds.

I suppose I can confine the skillinating items to their apartments only, rather than the common rooms, so that skillinator won't send them to the wrong apartment to pee. Or maybe put a bathroom in the common area. (Which I suppose I should do anyway.) But I just wanted to make sure this wasn't already fixable through this hack and I'm just too sucky to find it.
Use "Myne" Doors. Get lesswhiny. Problem solved.

I ran apartments all the time before the whining-reducer and it's not that bad...some with common areas and some without. You just keep the doors locked, which any self-respecting person does in an apartment building.

The worst part of feeEssen's stuff is that in THEORY, she's got some good ideas...some of her kids' stuff and the organ SHOULD work and SHOULD be hella-cool. But They're just not. I even tried to recolor one item, to see if it was just a crap-ass texture, and it's not. The meshes are...well....in a class by themselves, really. Judges, please consider a special award just for her!
But see, in general it's not a good idea to put a baby in a hammock four feet from the floor.
3590  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: STOP with the dormie assignments! on: 2007 May 01, 14:37:39
Will we tell her DAC is broken now, or later?
I think you just did.

Kristalrose: three little words: clean templates, notownieregen

Honestly, though, dorms without dormies are no fun. I normally fill an extra floor with 1x2 rooms until I have just below the number my computer can handle (28 generally). Now, with ACR on brothel settings, it should be absolutely fantastic.
3591  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Toasting bug? Is this a known issue with Seasons? on: 2007 May 01, 14:33:23
No toasting bug (toasting before and after the meal is done is a staple in my sim dates), but I do have something else silly that may have started with Seasons: when a booth is set up against a wall on one side, instead of having the currently sitting sim scoot over, the next one will jump over the booth and into the seat next to them.

There's always the "unlockCareerRewards" cheat. I figure that if a family member has earned the bookcase, there's no reason their spawn can't bring a functioning one to college.

Practice safe eating:  use condiments!
I don't know wether to laugh or groan. I think groan.
Say, on a related note, anyone know of some custom table deco for when you're bored with the little lamps and condiments?
There's some placemats on TSR that you can use. However, I'm not sure if they block assignments. It's worth a try. Of course, it's freaking pay crap. Pay here, freeload here (useable_place_settings_set.rar).

Why am I not shocked that someone apparently entirely new to custom content gravitates to this mod first? At least I waited a couple years to let my sims get pervie.
3595  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: [Work in progress] Polygamy or marriage of convenience on: 2007 April 29, 19:10:18
Great, one of my favorite families in Sims1 was a woman who had three husbands, all of whom she had to hide her "playing" from. I've missed that deviation in Sims2. Just a thought...could there be an option to have the lovey-dovey crap included?
3596  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Cannot Use Dressers in any lot on: 2007 April 28, 21:19:40
Crammyboy's cock and ACR work just fine for me, with no problems relating to dressers.  I'd try removing the College Interactions one first, then maybe the nl_censor mod (you know you can just take the censor off in SimPE, right?)
3597  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: S.O.S. - Can you safely delete a family that's never been out of the bin? on: 2007 April 26, 19:46:11
I see that Ramaswami guy all the flippin' time when I pop over to my testing neighborhood that has all the default stuff left in. Not any of the rest of the family, just the guy. He made me think he was a townie for the longest time. Shows how much I pay attention to families in the sim bin!  Cheesy

And in my custom neighbourhood, stupid David Ottomas keeps showing up on random lots and making eyes at all the other teens there. I can swear on a stack of HHGTTG that the Ottomas are still in the Sim Bin. I've never deleted a family from the Sim Bin either. Which (it sounds like) is a good thing after all...
Ugh. Deleted 2 those Ottomas's NOW, then thoroughly clean your computer with Lysol. Not only is the mom's pregnancy thoroughly borked, but the kids you get naturally from them are beyond ugly. Not to mention, grandma is scary. With my custom replacement skins, she looked exactly like one of those witch-heads we used to make in Brownies out of decaying apples.

The Ramaswami's, however, are wonderful. Beautiful kids, and the family I tested out Seasons with.
3598  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nasty Environment score on downloaded house on: 2007 April 25, 16:32:38
I tend to get a lot of rain/snow . Almost twice a day during Spring and at least once a day during Summer I have at least rain or lightning. Others complain that they don't get the storms. I also get a lot of deep snow.   I am curious as to what others are experiencing in the way of precipitation.
As with all other "random" Maxis coding, weather can fall into ruts. I've had runs of winters with only one day of light snow and nothing else. I've had winters where there was heavy snow from the last day of fall to the second day of spring and two snow days off from school. I've had one year with no rain at all, and others where it rained or hailed almost every non-winter day. I've had lots that seemed to be major lightning magnets with more than one storm a day and a tree that never seemed to get a chance to extinguish with the number of hits it was getting. In my current custom neighborhood (three residential lots so far, about three weeks of play) I haven't had a lightning strike yet, no significant storms, and very heavy snows.
3599  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Frame Rate. on: 2007 April 25, 16:24:16
2 am is also both lights-out time for the outside lights as well as burglar probability time. I have a very fast machine that can handle settings to the max and a high amount of cc, but still get a very brief slowdown at 2:00 am, 10:00 am (if a maid is hired), and 8:00 pm in my neighborhood with a werewolf. For some reason Kitty likes to search for nibbles at 8:00.
3600  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Kitty Condo on: 2007 April 25, 05:49:38
Out of over 20 cats I've had in-game, I've had two use the condo to sleep, and then only occasionally. With one, it was a two-cat home with no other beds. Generally both cats would sleep on the floor instead. In one nine-cat household with only three beds, none ever slept in the two cat condos.

Yeah. That would suggest that something's borked.
