1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: NVidia screws ups, why updating drivers is a bad idea ... on: 2009 October 22, 11:25:22
I use an old driver too. Just trying to install a driver more recent than 1.78 makes the PC freeze.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.3 Released on: 2009 August 05, 08:28:28
Well,  I had time to play for a long time in a new town with the patch. Still a lot of issues, and some new, as usual.
It did not solve at all the player-created families moving out of the game, making it impossible to play multiple families. This is a major issue, when a sim marries and moves temporarily out of the house he can disappear forever, and if you play him immediately then his former family can move.
After about 24h of game, 25% of my created families disappeared, and some sims moved from their own house to merge with another family.

Worse, I discovered the social need drops VERY quickly after patch.
Some "bad mood" ( sorry, my game is not english and I don't know how it is named) are stuck after their normal expiration time.
As eveyone, a lot more route failure now and some weird graphic glitches with the sims icons on mood change. ( they look like zombies until I quit and restart game)

I did not see newborn babies with a single parent, though, but perhaps I am just lucky.

I don't know for you, it probably depends of the way each one plays but the patch brought more problems than solutions for me. Really not worth installing.

Edit : Good news ! After all the patch works for my gamestyle.
Finally the player-made sims don't disappear. They are moved randomly from a house to another. Only built-in sims are removed from game, but not always, some merge to custom made houses too. It's weird and rather hard to track but the game is now less frustrating. And after about a hundred hours still no monoparental babies appearing randomly.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch 1.3 Released on: 2009 August 03, 19:54:36
Just to inform I tried the link provided by GnatGoSplat and apparently it updated the game to V1.3.24.00002 without any problem.

the sims 3 is still a poor game but at least the crack works and the patch removes some critical issues like player-created families disappear or babies coming from nowhere

Anyway, sorry for the long winded, pissy post. I know I'm not a regular forumer, and it's not my intention to get into a big dick-waving contest with anyone. (Especially since I don't have one!)

Now THIS would be a funny and challenging game for a change.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Online Backup/Storage on: 2009 April 03, 03:24:27
No really how does that happen that much? Is your place not have room temperature? Do you drop equipment on floor a lot?
such things happen. I can hardly keep a hard disk for more than a year or 2. I suspected micro power peaks or failures but I bought an UPS and the problem still exists. I don't understand why. It makes computer a heavy post in my budget, but the good thing is I always have a very up to date system. For the same price the storage space doubles every year. I can't imagine how to use a 4 years old 80 Go disk nowadays, when I see both my 1TO are already almost full in less than a year

Online storage is not reliable. You can't tell when the server will close or delete your account, and if you stock a lot it becomes very tedious to sort because it is slower than on a real drive.
A better option is to burn DVDs or a spare harddrive. Now the hard disks are affordable for backup  use.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom? on: 2009 April 03, 03:04:41
Strange, I could never make her selectable. The only option in the pie menu when I shift-click on her was "force error".
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Keeping A Custom 'Hood Alive on: 2009 April 03, 02:51:11
If you want to be anal, or are noticing some slowdown, a good habit is to use the lotdebugger to clear gossip periodically. At the least, clear it from the dead. I clear about every generation.

I learnt something useful today, thanks. I delete the sims manually, and so the gossips and all the memories go with them, but it seems much easier and faster with the lot debugger, I did not know about this feature. There is no more need to remove the whole sim if I understand. The relations and memories are automatically nuked for the dead ones, right ?

I don't use the clean templates.Like you (dirtandpretty ) I created my own custom hoods pre-populated with my own custom NPCs and made a backup of it for all my new hood needs.
With all subhood including university the total is 653 characters at the start. With the fixes available on this site the increase is under control and I don't encounter any problem with neighborhoods of more than 1200, it covers about 5-6 generations of playables with about 30 families. After that you could always delete the deads after 2 generations, but I don't do it myself because generally the hard drive or the computer crashes before I have to do (never understood how some people can keep their PC alive for more than 2 years, not speaking of hard disks but this is another story).
So you don't need to worry

I am just wondering : All of you have an account at TSR ?
Why ?
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NEWS: WE CAN HAZ LEGAL THREATS? on: 2008 December 15, 01:24:36
This site don't host store item. Giving a link has nothing illegal. But a judge could decide that simply linking to pirated content is encouraging piracy.
Here we have more restrictive laws than in USA for internet, and some sites are filtered. It is difficult to explain because the laws are different in different countries and it is difficult to translate specific legal language when it is already difficult to simply write english but the internet providers went to the supreme court and lost. They had to restrict access to some websites. In the future we can expect this trial to serve as an example to get even more restrictions for political or other reasons
As you are not located in USA there is probably little they can do against you, but perhaps some day your site will be unreachable for some of us because they can turn against our providers for allowing access to a "pirate" site.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make friends with 5 service NPCs. Which ones count? on: 2008 December 10, 16:22:26
I'm confused about the Social Worker, though.  I've taken no chances--I have one as a character in my Legacy 'hood, but she is really a normal Sim created in CAS with the unlocked SoWo outfit.  But I've certainly heard of people marrying her in with no ill effects, and that she is a sim with ordinary wants, etc.  What is the problem with the Social Worker?
The ony thing I found with the social worker made playable is she still tries to walks through walls on every lot. Except for this she acted like any normal sim.
Some other charaters have strange behaviour, like The nanny, the burglar, the grand vampire, the streaker, the diva/Mr Big, the uni mascots or cheerleaders, and perhaps others I don't remember now.
Some behave like normal sims once playable, like the maid or gardener, the mailperson, the paperboy, the pizza delivery, OFB reporter...
It seems Pescado said all,  it is probably better to avoid marrying a service NPC at all. Even a named character of the basegame like the burglar or the nanny retain their strange behaviour. What real damage it can cause to the game is beyond my knowledge.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make friends with 5 service NPCs. Which ones count? on: 2008 December 08, 23:21:27
The list is not really accurate. Social workers count as service NPC and they are social.
The only thing is you can't ask them for a date using the phone but when they are off duty you can  interact with them and even marry them, unlike the repo men or the taxi drivers.
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What hacks/fixes are absolutely necessary on: 2008 December 08, 23:11:11
And since the basegame, fix or not, I never had a game not ending in a BFBVFS. Do you really still use the same NB you created the first time you installed the basegame ?

I do. I've played, almost daily, in Pleasantview since October, 2004. I install fixes when they become available, and usually install patches, as well.

Really ? Well, I must admit since 2004 my computers or hard drives ended more often in a BFBVFS than the games. Perhaps it is a curse or I am really careless, I can't keep any computer working for more than 2 years, not to mention the hard drives with an average lifespan of 1 year.
I can't tell for sure but I remember the installation of nightlife was fatal to all previoulsy played neighborhoods, the best fixes came too late to save them as they were already corrupted just by installing the expansion. You probably did not get all the Eps as soon as they were released because of course patches and fixes come later than the game itself and then could prevent the corruption but not repair it afterwards.
The next major step was the installation of Freetime. I lost the previous neighborhoods here as well (lot didappearances and character corruption) Too much work to repair, It was faster to create a new neighborhood using the custom template than to repair the old ones
The oldest neighborhood I have now is a generic template I made, 2 computers ago  in november 2006. As it is a template I don't really played it, I just use it as a base neighborhood
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What hacks/fixes are absolutely necessary on: 2008 December 07, 22:32:15
I don't use all fixes just because they exist or fix something.

I do like some bugs in the game and after some years I 'm used to live with them. Example : I never used any phone fix or hack, and I'm still alive, even with some sims having more than 40 buddies. It was a major annoyance when I had no experience with the game but at this time there was no fix for it and I learnt how to play with this issue.

I even removed some hacks or fixes jut to get back the good old bugs, like the noeatcrap. I perfer them to eat crap and get disease if they are stupid enough to do this. The sims are not supposed to be very smart, if they act like idiots then it's their own business
I keep only the ones I need and the ones I think are critical. I don't care if my romance sim get the right memory for 20 wooohoos or a golden tombstone because he died in platinum. But I care about real bugs able to crash the game for good. It makes a big difference

And since the basegame, fix or not, I never had a game not ending in a BFBVFS. Do you really still use the same NB you created the first time you installed the basegame ?
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Familiars without zomgPets installed? on: 2008 October 25, 14:21:38
Exactly.  Cheesy
By the way, this is how I learned the little english I know.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Familiars without zomgPets installed? on: 2008 October 25, 12:03:58
I would love to be one of those people that only need a few hours of sleep a night. Sadly, if left to my own devices I can usually sleep for 10-12 hours at a time and be sleepy again 10-12 hours after I wake up.
I am one of those people needing only 2-3 hours of sleep a day. It's not always good, as the whole world lives on schedule. Then you are awakened when the rest of the world is at rest and it is an obstacle to family life because at home you must be careful not to make any noise, and can't go outside because you are not supposed to be running on the streets at 2 AM. Staying at home reading books, watching movies with a headphone or playing games on the computer everyday is boring if you don't do it because you want to but only because you have to waste time until morning.
And it is even worse when you are on vacation with friends. When they go to sleep you stay alone with absolutely nothing to do and the night is very long. I lost count of the uninteresting novels I've read and the stupid movies I've watched in my life.

16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How often do you 'reboot'? on: 2008 August 20, 19:35:43
I only use the university neighborhoods as a start, and when the sims leave college they go in an empty custom neighborhood. So I never have to reset.
I changed the original N001 to N003 in program files fodler so I don't need to reset, the townies and NPC are my own custom made each time I create a new NB
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abandonated Mods Needing Updates for Free Time on: 2008 May 05, 11:10:54
Make a backup of your neighborhood and try it yourself. If it really corrupt your game restore the backup but perhaps it will just work fine. Sometimes people are experiencing problems and other don't, depending of what hack is installed with another one.
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can I delete a university in game? on: 2008 March 05, 13:42:19
Yes you can delete the university. all the students, NPC and professors will remain in the game.
If you used dorms in the deleted university and dormies already moved in they'll retain the previous information about their room and will not re-appear as residents in the new nuniversity. If you had several dorms the game will create new dormies instead of reusing the existing now homeless ones.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV third patch is out on: 2008 February 14, 04:25:02
Please, can someone confirm the last official version is v1.10.0.122 ?
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: releasing SimPE - soon on: 2007 December 18, 16:36:21
Well Emily broke his arm so she could take over for a while, so Stormwench may have gone for his legs this time, I suppose Smiley
And I thought I got the worst of women...   Sad
I'll believe he is alive when I see him on a video showing the newspaper of the day.
So, there are now 2 significantly different versions of SimPE V0.64 ?
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: releasing SimPE - soon on: 2007 December 13, 05:37:29
The SimPE forum was down for several days. Then the day it reopens, someone you never heard of before comes with admin rights and claims to be the "new owner".
SimPE site suffered attacks before, and Quaxi is not around anymore to confirm the thing. I just think this stormwench hacked the site.
22  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers wanted: Load package in sim surgery. on: 2007 April 27, 17:08:58
First, I'd like to say how much I appreciate all your plug-ins. It would be very unpleasant to play without them.
But to the point : I have some concerns with the new version, with the 2 windows. I can't get it to work in SimPE 0.61n :
The window opens, I can select the patient and the archetype then a potato head appears as the archetype and when I click the "surgery" button something seems loading but there is no change made on the patient sim. I tried to check and uncheck all option boxes, try different ways but with no result.
Sometimes I get an error message, with the archetype package not recognized as a character, but I'm certain the character file is good.
With the previous version ( the one looking like the original simsurgery) in SimPE 0.60b all works well, with the same patient and archetype.

I thought I missed something, as I'm confused with the new display, used I am to the looking of original simsurgery, or is it simply not for SimPE 0.61 but only for 0.60 ?

By the way : I saw you kept the eyes only option. Does it work  now ? There were issues with simsurgery when trying to change a sim eye color that way. Did you achieve to fix it in this version ?
23  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers wanted: Load package in sim surgery. on: 2007 April 07, 02:37:11
Hello Elvie : don't try with the neighborhood browser but with the menu item open mydocume'nts/eagames/etc...G001. It should work. Well, it worked here

Hi, Theo : I use all of your plug-ins akmost everyday. I think I have tested them in every situation as I reskin all townies and NPC everytime I create a new NB and use the excellent clothing tool to give them my own clothes.
I didn't find anything wrong with alt-simsurgery yet, at least nothing wronger than the standard simsurgery : Sometimes the resulting character file is corrupted and sometimes I get the infamous Alpha shadow character ( all black then becomes invisible after a while). Nothing irreversible, though and These problems were already present with the original simsurgery.

My problem here is with the new flavor of sim deleter tool. Could you add a "hardcore"version with the DNA deletion back ? I wouldn't make a long message but I think it is very useful when creating an "archetype pool neighborhood". I end with 387 characters and 2384 DNA. Of course, I can delete all DNA manually but if it is simpler to put back the option... because some character files are more" than 2MB large. Thanks in advance

By the way, I think the exported character and then the patient sim is not really homozygous. I used some in-game born sims as archetypes, with custom blue eyes among both parents and alien green skin and SOME of their children have the original alien eyes from their grand-parents ( When creating a child from 2 sims in CAS, not tested in game, but I suppose it is the same). Same thing with the custom grey skin. It reappears even when both exported parent have another default skin. Deleting the DNA could be usefuln even if just for a smaller character filesize
