BUMP  (sorry in advance for the double post)

Alright, just want to kind of close this off.
So I've found a work around solution to my problem, if any one has the same problem that I had, and can't fix it, here's something that you can do.
So with my current problem world with the deformed land mass, all I did was to open CAW, open the world, save it, then export my height map and close the world. Next open a graphics editor (in this case I'm using http://rawtherapee.com/) open my height maps folder (Documents\Electronic Arts\CAW\UserToolData\Height Maps) and open the height map I just exported (make sure the height map is greyscale) and save it as PNG 16 bits. Lastly, open a new world in CAW, browse and find the new height map and open it. The new world should open perfectly with no deformed edges. And if the problem happens to reoccur throughout the process of creating your world, this fix can be repeated endlessly. The only warning is that all objects will be destroyed in the creation of a new map, if you didn't happen to know that. So Pescado was right in the first place, as usual, not that I ever thought he was wrong... Thanks to JMP, and roses for the help.   ...and kissing_toast for sliding me to MTS which did give a lot of help.

You might have better luck exporting the terrain to a graphics editor and making changes there.  If you copy a slice of the circle that works, you can rotate/paste until the whole circle is uniform and then import the terrain (making a new save first).  Gradients made in Photoshop don't transfer as smooth terrain, but copying a part that you have already smoothed should work better.

I would love to utilize your suggestion, but unfortunately I'm a noob in that department. I don't really understand how to import terrains to a graphic editor, and that whole process you explained. If you can maybe explain it in a bit more detail, I might be able to understand and try that. But anyway, I have uploaded the world for anyone to test out and see if they can get it to work.

In CAW, look under the Terrain menu tab and choose Export Height Map.  You can edit the height map in the graphics editor and then import it back into the game, preferably into a fresh save in case the new map knocks around items you have already placed.  Bridges may need to be clicked to reconnect them to roads after a new map is imported.

If you're not experienced with a graphics editor, it's worth learning.  Lifehacker has a great Night School series on Photoshop.  For the time being, if you want to post your exported height map, I'll give it a whirl and see if my suggestion actually works.

Hand-holding may not be encouraged here, but it's nice to see signs of life in this thread.  It's disappointing that MATY hasn't shown much interest in CAW as we have a shortage of creatively nefarious worlds.  Not that it matters much for the time being, because Skyrim.

Ah, it finally clicked for me when you explain it that way. I know my way a bit around graphic editors but I just couldn't connect that to CAW, couldn't figure out how to get my world into GIMP or Paint. But I got what you were saying now, and I will try and test that out, but since your more of an expert then me here's the world (updated version) and the height map, you can have a go at it. Thanks.

Also, I agree on your other point, this thread has been very useful to me in my CAW experience, as there is such a collective of brains here.

You might want to consider taking this over to MTS, there's plenty of tutorials and threads there to help you. They also love to hold hands and walk people through each and every step. Not that you've met the MATY welcoming committee yet, but it's bound to happen sooner or later.
Duly noted. And I think I have met the "committee" before... but that's alright, I don't mind the low tolerance attitude, it's MATY's pond, I can't tell them how to swim in it.

Update 12-28-11: Still trying to get this fixed, I know a lot of people might be busy for the holiday's, but anyone check it out yet? I'll probably check it out more thoroughly after the New Years festivities. Happy New Year to all.

Update 1-2-12: Okay! Well I have been testing out all sorts of things and finally got it to work. Here's the process of what I did; I opened up CAW and flattened all of the land that surrounded the area I was working on, except a few mountains, saved, re-loaded, (still the same). Exported the height map, saved, opened it in a graphics editor, did nothing there, saved it there, imported the height map back onto the current world, it messed up the whole land mass, did not save. opened the height map in a new empty map, the whole land mass was mushed together, so saved it under a new name, went back to the old problem world, (still the same). Next, I flattened (again) the entire ground that is under the water shaving off the edges of the land (that was deforming) in the process, until everything on land (except the mountains) and under water, was an even level, saved, reload, re-created the islands and zoomed out, and presto! it no longer deforms.

Some where in the blur of saving and reloading it was fixed, but that was yesterday.... now when I opened CAW it's back to the same thing, I thought that the flattening of the seaboard is what fixed it, but apparently not.

Drawing over the landmass on a graphics editor is a bit much for me, maybe if Rosess is still up for it, he\she can try that.
So still in progress...

Well I went into the world editor mode and zoomed in one notch, and it snapped back to normal (like below), and if I go down to Sim view it stays good, but as soon as you zoom out it deforms......

Nothing. It's purely an artifact of Create-A-Crap's rendering cutoff points. This behavior is probably not visible in the actual game since you can never pull that far out.

Okay, well I tested what you said, and uploaded the world to my game. So I went into edit town mode and this is what it looks like...


Now, this world is very unfinished so there's no camera barriers or anything like that on yet, everything is just open, would that have anything to do with it?

Sorry for the necromancy, but I think this is the most logical place to post this, I'd rather not start a new thread for the same subject. I have searched and read through this thread, and I don't think I saw an answer to this question (but correct me if I'm wrong), so here it goes:

I've made this island, and it looks nice, like this...


But when I zoom out for a bird's eye view, it looks like this...


What is the cause of this problem, and how can I fix it? I did try and flatten out the sea board surrounding the island, but otherwise to that I'm stumped, and also, it gets worse and more deformed as I soften the edges of the land.

CAW... Okay, so I finally finished building my world and saved it. But then it would not export, so I created another save with a different name and saved that, and it still would not export. I keep getting the dialog box "world failed to export" or whatever. So I copied my files to another location and re-installed CAW. Then when I restored my old files to CAW it would not work AT ALL, I get the Could Not Load File Error.... If anyone has any light to shed on this, it would be very, very appreciated.  Huh

PS: We all know that CAW crashes constantly, even more often with Late Night, so I'm not sure if any of my saved files got corrupted, but I have several different save versions, and none of them work, so just thought I'd mention that.

That is a tempfile that gets written out when you do things like travelling. It's harmless, but the data may not be in a consistent state if you attempt to use it as a recovery save.

Inside of My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder is a folder named CurrentGame.sims3. It starts out empty, but after a few plays of the game it would contain these files:

TravelDB (PACKAGE File)
Twinbrook_0x09b610faExportDB (PACKAGE File)
1a5tf1l3 (DAT File)
Meta.data (DATA File)
Twinbrook_0x09b610fa.nhd (NHD File)

I would like to know what are the importance of these files\what do they do\if they can be deleted like cache files or should be?

Over the past few week's I've been getting these script errors in my game folder, I just want to know what causes them and how I can prevent them? I've never had them before the latest patch and I just want some info on them.

I have been getting this FSE every 3 seconds of gameplay ever since I updated the AM to the 17-07-2010, 13:25:33 version. About to install AM again to see if any update have been made. I do use SC heavily, but as I said, I haven't had any problems until this last update.

But I'm not entirely sure that's the problem, as I haven't downloaded any new cc in a while, and I never had any problem like this before I installed Twallan's mod's... so, just putting this out there to see if any of the knowledgeable people here know about this.

Two things. First what the hell does this have to do with this thread?

Second, did you actually read through those links you were given for the Exchange threads and check to see if you had some of the problem custom content known to cause this? Don't assume because you haven't installed any custom content in a while that it can't be it. The problems some content creates do not always show immediately.

Also logic dictates that if no one else is complaining about this on Twallan's board surrounding his mods and a lot of people are complaining about this being caused by custom content on the Exchange that it's most likely custom content. Don't think you know better and argue with people or bug people on another forum that isn't even Twallan's about a problem you think is caused by Twallan's mods. Just check your custom content.

As usual, the obvious first thing everyone should be doing when having a serious problem they don't know the source of is to take all mods and custom content out temporarily (move the Mods, DCCache and DCBackup folders out of My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 temporarily) and try loading the game to see if the problem is still there. Don't save the game, just see what happens. If the problem does not show this eliminates that your game files themselves are hosed and points that it is indeed something you downloaded.

Next put the mods/packages/hacks folder back in (don't put custom content package files under Mods/Packages/Objects or Clothes etc in yet, just hacks) and try it. If you still don't get the problem it is a piece of custom content.

If you had dug through the Exchange thread your were linked over at Twallan's forum and the further links it gives you would have seen that the known problem files to cause the weird baby issue are as follows:

top-nkd
bottom-nkd
Metallica Magnets logo t-shirt
toddler_tee (with 'milk' written on it)
collectionblondes (has a picture of a woman with a black bikini top and bottom)
New CAS Project
Nightime, Daytime, Everytime shoes
Shymoo

And while you are at it, lookout for "Girl Doll Dressed" the infamous viral doll.

These are things that (should have) gotten installed via the launcher so look for them there and uninstall them if you have them. It doesn't matter if you never downloaded them because they can embed themselves in other sim3packs and sneak in.

Honestly I hate going through that "taking out and putting back in cc" process(which I know everyone hates), which is why I ask around first sometimes, like now...

There is a Big book of skills on MTS that can also set the skill level of your Sims, including hidden skills. I find it useful for when I don't want to go searching through all of the supercomputer's sub-menus looking for one thing. Smiley

Otherwise, I'm quite pleased to find out my question has garnered so many different opinions, I've gleaned a lot of info from this. Still experimenting with Twallan SP, so nothing to say about it and AM contrast yet.

Twallanian Story is compatible with AwesomeMod, but you will obviously not be able to use AwesomeStory while using Twallanian Story. In fact, AwesomeMod's Story Driver Options are specifically coded to deactivate if Twallanian Story is present to avoid conflicts.

Yes, I am aware of that. But I've been play testing the game and, I still have AM installed and can use all the features like, Supreme Commander, etc. And in all honesty -not being rude in any way- it made me wonder what am I missing with AM Story Mode being off? Can anyone make this a little clearer?  Embarrassed

Yes, almost all of Twallan's mods work with AwesomeMod, but as for the Story Progression, Awesome comes with it's own, so I wouldn't use Twallan's with AM. On Twallan's homepage though, it generally says whether or not it works with AM. So SEARCH MOAR, and all that jazz.

Both links are for the same file. Install the awesome.package file (and the config if you use it) into your mods/packages folder.

Yeah, I recently thought of that, the only mods I have are things like Delphy's sliders, Johan sliders, but I didn't think that AM would conflict with regular downloads like hair, skin, clothes, accessories, patterns, etc, does it? Cause I have quite a bit of those.  

Try removing them anyway.  Some hairs have been know to cause problems at different times, and while it seems a direct conflict with AM is unlikely, anything is possible.  I use some of the sliders, and no problems, but the best way to troubleshoot is to try everything, no matter how small or inconsequential it may seem.

Drop ALL mods/CC except for AM, clear the caches, then start a fresh new game and see what happens.  If the game runs properly, try adding the mods/CC slowly and keep checking until you can identify where the problem is.  A fresh new game helps eliminate a dying game as the problem.

I started a clean version of the game, no CC- just AM, and the same thing happened, but I figured out what was wrong. When I downloaded AM I also downloaded the framework zip found here http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,15184.0.html, I put the d3dx9_31.dll file into TS3\Game\Bin folder, the resource.cfg file AND the DDFMap.txt notepad into TS3\Mods\Packages folder. When I deleted the DDFMap.txt file and threw it into the garbage, I went back and re-loaded the game and it worked perfectly... with AM installed.

I am now going to update my game to WA, and re-add my CC (step by step of course) and see if it still works.

I am now... AWESOME! Finally!
My game is now completely updated, TS3:WA version 2.6.11. AM is in my game and there is no black or red screen. I'm quite positive that the problem was that DDFMap.txt. included in the framework zip on-site, now that I have not used it, everything seems to run smoothly.

Okay. I will do that, but I just have two questions, (and this is where I get burned) In the AM download thread, there are 2 zip files; mirror 1 & mirror 2, is there a difference between the two? And where do I put the AM file, in the Mods folder or the base Sims 3 folder?

Try rolling back your drivers instead? I haven't seen these particular issues but when I updated to 197.45 I did start getting crashes to bluescreen nvblahblah.dll has failed. I rolled back to an older driver and haven't had any problems since. So it may actually be an incompatibility with the newer drivers.

Hmm, I see. Okay I will check that out.

I had floating land when I inadvertently installed Riverview.sims3pack into a .dbc cache, as well as having Riverview.world in my 'worlds' folder.

Floating land? Ouch. I don't even have Riverview installed right now so I don't think that's an issue, but thanks.
