Title: Nightlife House Mix?
Post by: MaxisManiac on 2006 April 14, 02:15:13
I was always wondering what the House Mix station was, and all I found were four songs which were remixes of the Sims 2 Theme song (the one at the Neighborhood screen), and I looked in the MusicTitles text file and found many other songs not in my game. "Chewing Gum" by Annie, "Jump" by The Faders, etc. I searched on the BBS, and found this: http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?&openItemID=&threadID=2229a5aa538dc3fa663e2a924a21e5a9&directoryID=2&startRow=1#2773e9f2b620039f742da4aa3f15138e

Apparently someone else has these songs included in their game.

Does anyone know more about this?

EDIT: Ah, I see. Some translations in other countries got certain songs from the list. They were easily extractable.

It's weird - the songs are spread out in various different packages, and some songs are repeated.

Funnily though, out of the 4 songs in the "house" mix, only one is really "house".  One is breakbeat (Adam Freeland's stuff), and the other two are closer to trance than anything else (though Timo Maas is more "progressive", but close enough).

I wish they kept the music from "My Sim Don" in the game. That was a good song.

There are 15 unique house mix songs in total:
Adam Freeland - Busy.mp3
Andy&Lucas - Madre.mp3
Andy&Lucas - Mi Barrio.mp3
Annie - Chewing Gum.mp3
Annie - Heartbeat.mp3
Christian Forss - Hubny Harb.mp3
Hyper - Sim the Builder.mp3
Jeanette - Run with me.mp3
Junkie XL - Sims 2 Uni Theme.mp3
LUX Spencers - O blay wobba zoon.mp3
Musikk Feat John Rock - Summer Lovin'.mp3
The Faders - Jump.mp3
The Faders - What it takes.mp3
Timo Maas - Sims 2 Theme.mp3
Victoria - Cry.mp3

They're hidden in the different locale files.
Open <Nightlife>\TSData\Res\Locale\<locale>\Sound\Housemix.package for each of the following locales, and extract the MP3 files to C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Music\housemix :

Brazilian Portuguese
Czech
Danish
Finnish
German
Norwegian
Spanish
UK English

There are some dupes, but at least this way you'll get them all.

Is their anyway to make them all show?

Yeah, extracting them.

Or drop them all in a single package for your locale (but why?)

My question is: Why is it necessary to have an extra 120+ megs of locale files on the user's machine when there is only one locale in use? It's not like the user will one day decide to switch from English to Japanese on a whim.

Regardless, I replace all of those silly simlish music files. It's just the same songs over and over and over and over.

Maxis' (EA Games') methods are strange anyway. Do you realize that because each XP is installed next to the original game, there is an immense amount of duplication going on? It's not as if you even can remove an XP later and continue playing: your 'hood will be unusable.

House Mix was originally intended to pull music directly from your My Music folder, as evidenced by what the Prima Guide says (which was finished before the game went gold).

Obviously, this is just more proof how inconsistent Maxis seems to be with keeping what they intended. Well...It's probably more along the lines of "Maxis is inconsistent because EA tells them development is finished when it's really not."  :-\
